Basic Question: What is MASTERING exactly?

If I understand it correctly, mastering is the process of making sure all songs on a CD flow together. All songs need to be roughly in the same dynamic level or the listener will have to turn the volume up and down. The order of the songs is also considered as well as spacing between songs and possible fade in and outs.
Garageband is a little weak at Mastering.
First of all GB loses quality on each export. For Mastering, 24 bit is recommended so there is little loss when reimporting the file into a new session. GB exports to 16 bit. Each export/import/export process results in lost quality.
If you are limited to Garageband then you would create a new session with each song on a separate track. Volume levels, order of the songs and fade ins/outs can then be done easily. Slight compression can be added as well to try and even out any volume differences.
Once you get the whole mix the way you want it export one track at a time by soloing the track and selecting only that section using the loop playback feature.

[BASIC question] what is the component I should use to fix an AC voltage and its current (in the same component)

I need urgently to know how use a component which allows me to fix an AC voltage and its current.
I can't use a resistance and an AC current in parallele for my application..

In general the way to fix both voltage and current requires a source and an impedance, but you say you do not want that solution.
Please tell us exactly what your application is and why a current source in parallel with a resistance is unacceptable.

Basic question: what to provide EJB client

Weblogic 6.1, SP1, on Red Hat Linux and Windows 2000
I have been developing an application for a few months now, but all EJBs have
only had local interfaces. My team now needs to expose a few remote interfaces
to another division of my company that's using WLS on another server. I understand
the changes that I need to make on the server side. I have searched the documentation
several times for help, but I can't seem to find a "Start here" page on how to
create the client Jar.
My understanding is this so far. For the server that will contain and run the
beans, I still bundle up the MyServiceBean, MyServiceRemote, and MyServiceHome
class files into a jar and run ejbc to perform the EJB compiling. My Manifest's
Class-Path element references some helper Jars like exceptions and value objects.
Once that's done, I then create a separate jar for the client. I must modify
my ejb-jar.xml file to add an ejb-client-jar element with MyServiceClient.jar
(or whatever the final file name will be) as its value. The client jar should
otherwise contain the same classes as the server jar, but without the bean class.
And then I also just provide the helper jars as well.
I'm sure I don't have this right yet, and I'd really appreciate some insight.
But then I have a more fundamental question: how does the client know which server
contains my EJBs? I haven't found this info in any deployment descriptor. The
only guess I have so far is that when the client creates an InitialContext to
fetch the home interface, they have to specify a ProviderUrl with my server's
IP address when they create an Environment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

You don't really need to put an entry for ejb-client-jar element in the
ejb-jar.xml. You can still create your client and run it. Only thing is that
you need to put ur client jar in the classpath of your java client.

this also you can run ur client. Where does this help?

Sounds like you've got it, actually. The client just needs to have the
remote interface
classes
for the bean + helper classes in its classpath. Any generated RMIclasses
will be loaded
over the network, if needed.

Is JMF a failed concept ? basic question

I have been researching to embed a JMF app on an applet for nearly 2 months. i have also read most questions on this forums thats related to this topic.
Almost every one says to use java web start than using an applet. and most of the people in the forum has not got a solution to there problem, that is to add audio/video chat to an applet.
I too have a issue in adding a audio/video chat to an applet. but still almost every one encouraged me to use java webstart.
Further more there are no successful example in the net where you can add a audio/video chat into an applet. Most of the sample code given don't even work.
My problem is that, Why doesn't jmf work on applets ?? have some one tried using this method, and has it worked ?? and why does people in this forum encourage others to use java web start instead of applets ? and finally does sun want to turn down the concept of using applets ???
note: I might had asked a stupid question, if so my apologies._

The cross-platform version of JMF works just fine in embedded applets(1), it is the Performance Pack that can be a hassle to get working. The JMF PP would need to be installed on the users computer, to get the natives in a place they can be used.
Having said that, the "This computer needs to reboot" message at the end of the JMF installer puts a bit of a damper on that. Who wants to use an applet that requires them to reboot the PC before use?
Also, I've heard that even after that, many users visit the JMF test applet to have it report that the JMF classes are not found. Since I have little interest in deploying the PP to end users, I have never looked into it that closely.

..and finally does sun want to turn down the concept of using applets ???Given the effort Sun is pouring into the jnlp2 architecture, which allows webstart services to be used even in embedded applets, I think not.
It should be noted though, that Sun has abandoned JMF a long time ago (though they have never issued an announcement to that effect). :(
As such:
a) It is lacking in the more advanced compression codecs, which it seems would be a killer for network/internet based media transfer.
b) Nobody is updating the (32 bit) natives, so I guess they will work on less and less PCs as time goes on.
Those two things aside, I feel that JMF is a relatively well engineered & comprehensive media solution. The reason so many people have trouble getting up to speed in JMF is largely because 'media handling' is a lot more complex than most people realise. I probably should have asked those people who complained about JMF, if they had ever dealt with the intricacies of media handling in another API for anything beyond 'throw a media file into the system player and play it'. Playing a media file would probably be trivially easy in VB.

What is the exact protocol for ejecting Time Machine disk from USB?

I have an external drive that I connect and use for Time Machine. When I'm done, I eject the drive and Finder disappears. I pull the USB connector and the OS complains that I did not eject the drive properly.
I've seem the other threads, and I'm afraid I'm going to get a lot of discussion and no answer. So here's a simple question:
What is the exact protocol for closing Time Machine and disconnecting the USB cable to the drive without getting a complaint from the OS?

When cleared, But still they want to have a Spoon feeding with a Sample Code.

These always looks to me as crazy.

I am not sure whether if still this Rule AVAILABLE or NOT.

First tell me a little something about my self...
After completion of my certification(as a fresher) I was down the streets hunting the job,
with the insufficient knowledge and being a non-experienced person, I never got one.
And mean while when I got my "S-UserID", I used to be proud, To say frankly, I registerd in SDN & SAP all at a time, without even knowing what I can do there..,
When I got a job afterwords I was doing the job and never seen SDN page for many months,
when I came to know that of we have doubts we can post at SDN. then started requesting help,
I posted only a little, I didnot got the proper response. on that day I decided,
still there are some places where we cannot get help on time and there will be people waiting to get help,
Why cant I put some of my efforts to help others.
Then I searched some topic by Topic in SDN topic by Topic I used to read threads just for knowledge.
when I feel my self comfort for contributing, I started contibuting...!
If you haven't read it, take a look first, so you can understand where things are now.
I dont know where things are now. But these in this thread I mentioned clearly what I seen from the day I started contributing.
I searched with the terms of 'Rules for replying', The results are not as I expected, and this link has subject as
"O SDN, where art thou?" So it dosent hit my in the list.
Like everybody until a certain stage I am also rushing for points.
But I most cases I never tried to copy paste answers. If I done some then that is just to point it myself some day,
I have no hopes or no intrest on the points...! This was discussed with Rob & Matt, at my inital contribution where my points are 36.
From that day till date I have changed a lot to myself.
Everyone cannot change like me because they are not like me & And I dont even expect that...!
I will be online almost 6-8Hrs a day, Not even getting intrest to see the forums just because of the co-contributors.
My only point is I am just requesting to a co-contributor,
Clearly In a example : Lets say contributor has replied to a thread, and if you know that is a correct solution,
please dont reply any more, If you have a better solution than that, then only reply,
Even there is one reply in the thread not a matter, if correct answer leave that query.
If still error persists, Show up with your Idea's...
Dont let down the contributor, by copying his reply and editing and pasting(edit only if incorrect).
I am just looking for this one exactly to circulate between ourselfs.
For this we a little support from moderators to circulate(may be as a rule or may be as a mail to them)
You may say again how many mails we have to send, It dosent matter, one mail to one person one time,
and +ve factors will show up definetly.
A real contributor always understand what I am talking about, but some one who hunts for points will never.

VERY Basic Questions about Oracle eBusiness - what "languages" are used?

Please forgive the very basic nature of this post- (I have been in systems (IT) for over 20 years, so I do have lots of systems experience, but no exposure to this particular software.)
So here are the basic questions - I assume that much of the data base logic is written in PL/SQL, but what other tools / languages are the applications written in?
(Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Java, C, something else?)
With over 20 years and experience with a number of other packages, I can learn a great deal about an application by 1. Looking at the DB structures (charts), 2. looking into DB code (Packages, triggers, procedure, functions) and 3. Seeing the screen shots.
None of my customers have had Oracle eBusiness - that have had home grown applications or other COTS/packages.
can anyone suggest a place where an independent person can inexpensively get some exposure?
My sincere thanks for any answers/suggestions.

What todo with those who keep on answering basic questions - Your thoughts?

I have been active in ABAP Development Forum and usually hit the abuse button around 50 times a day.
And most of the cases is for posting queries which are very basic and can be searched in SCN or in any Search engine.
Example: The specified item was not found.

Although this is the mistake of the poster, i can see around 5 - 10 replies for such posts in a few seconds. Most of the replies are posted with Copy + paste content from SAP documentation/ other sites, some link farms etc.
What i feel is this type of replies only encourages other people to post such basic questions again and again.
So i think a little amendment need to be added to the Forum guidelines prompting members not to post replies/links to basic questions which can be easily searched.

Your BAPI example took a whack together with all it's answers and the other questions by the same lazy bones fresher.
There is no real answer to your question, because more usable expert forums and keeping the quality up to standard is a constant thing. Each new batch of freshers brings new challenges with them, and new types of points-gaming, etc. So it is the journey which counts
At other times some tollerance is also appropriate - for example when the person has language problems and is using a translator.
But for the lazy bones who don't even have common sense, there is no SDN medication available. No amount of waiving the rules at them helps. The only think which can be done is to delete it on sight and try to catch them as early as possible.
For this the folks who use the Abuse Reports button are the true heros of the forums, as it is impossible for moderators to be everywhere all the time.

Hey folks I want some feedback on why type of questions we should consider basic in this forum? I have noticed in the last several weeks the questions here appear to be easily answered from wiki articles or the new book on the SAP Webclient programming.
Instead of me however throwing down the moderator axe, I want the community to decide the type of questions that should be locked or moved to a "basic questions" forum.
Given that the CRM Webclient is now a relatively mature product and the available materials to learn have increased, this should be fair request.
In order to ensure that you respond I'm going to give my thoughts on what should not be allowed
- Any topic covered in detail in the CRM wiki page here unless you need a clarification is subject for lock

Basically queries like "How To xyz" which are already there on the WiKi should be moved to Basic Questions. These are the queries which are being raised by Consultants who are either new TO CRM or new to SDN or both.
1. How to enhance a Web UI COmponent

4. How to modify the Search Criteria.
5. How to add a Attribute from AET/EEWB
6. How to Create a Assignment block for a Z table.
7. How to default values in Drop Down
8. How to do dynamic navigation
9. How to create Navigation Links for Navigation between 2 Components
10.How to get business Partner ID from sy-uname
11. How to Value node.
12. How to create a BOL
13. How to create a Pop Up View

I guess these are few basic queries which are being asked N number of times and has been answered twice as many a times.
Reading material and Tutorials are also sought by New CRM consultants which ideally should not be the case.

Basic questions from a new mozaic owner

I have some very basic questions about how to use the new mozaic 2G mp3 player. I bought the Mozaic because it has a speaker and sleep timer, but I'm finding it to be much harder to use than other mp3 players that I have had (Ipod shuffle, clix etc). This may reflect my failure to look in the right place but I have to say the "help" section isn't much help.
Here goes:
. I download podcasts to listen to during my morning run. WMP provides an easy to find place in its program, "recently added," which allows the user to just work with those files. As near as I can tell, Creative makes you wade through all of your tracks. Is there some way to create a file to which "recently added" tracks, or specific tracks, can be dumped? How about automatic tagging of these added files?
2. I have several thousand pictures on this hard dri've. Apparently, the Mozaic Centrale
Is going to copy all of them, which strikes me as a waste of space. Is there a way to shut this function off? I couldn't care less if a single photo was added to the centrale program (or whatever it's called). Is it really going to duplicate all of the jpg files?
3. I have the Zen Stone plus speaker which has served me very well. I had similar problems working with whatever Zen was calling its media player and wound up using WMP instead. I"d like to take a run at using the dedicated Zen media player....
I apologize for the basic nature of these questions, but the answers weren't obvious to me from the materials I was able to locate.

Basic questions about the CM handling of Photoshop

I have some basic questions how Potoshop handles colour management. Most probably this has been discussed many times before, but frankly, the manual is pretty poorly written on this subject. I do understand the principle of colour management pretty well, but am not sure whether I understand what Photoshop is doing. So could somebody please comment whether my reasoning is correct or not.
Let's assume my monitor is calibrated and its profile loaded in OSX's monitor preference panel. Let's further assume I'm working strictly in RGB.
Is the following correct:
• When I open a picture which has an embedded profile, then Photoshop first calculates the "true" values from the embedded profile (whatever this means) and from this point the screen representation based on the profile which I defined in the system pref pane. So the screen representation remains always the same, regardless of the embedded profile (besides some possible conversion artefacts, especially on the edges of the colour space).
• The same holds true in the opposite direction, so when I work on that picture on screen, then no matter which RGB space I pick as my working space, the result will always be exactly the same (except those aforementioned artefacts).
• Hence it doesn't matter which RGB colour space I choose as my working space, it could be sRGB, Adobe RGB, "my own wild profile", whatever, the results are always the same. Of course the RGB values will differ, but this will be compensated by the embedded profile.
• Yet the theoretically best working space is the colour space of my monitor, because this minimizes possible artefacts.
• When I "convert" the picture from one profile into an other, then not only that new profile is assigned and embedded, but also the RGB values are recalculated accordingly, so that the result will remain the same. For example, I could first "convert" a picture from the camera space to my monitor space, then work on it, and finally "convert" it to sRGB before uploading it to a web site.
• When I "assign" a new profile, then a new profile is simply assigned and embedded but the RGB values are not adjusted. So the RGB values remain the same, but because a different profile is embedded, the picture will actually be changed. Since Photoshop will recalculate the screen representation based on that new profile (and the monitor profile), I will see this change on the screen. (This action doesn't make much sense, except maybe to simulate the possible outcome on a system which misinterprets the profile, e.g. assumes sRGB.)
• And finally, when I leave the picture untouched but change the monitor profile in the system pref pane, then of course the picture will not change, but its screen representation will change, because Photoshop uses that profile to calculate the screen representation. (This action makes even less sense, of course.)
Have I understood? Then I have two final questions:
• When I open a RGB file without any profile in it, what does Photoshop assume? How does it calculate the screen display? What does it do if I "convert" such a picture or "assign" a profile?
• If I select in the colour settings as working color space the monitor space, then the colour managment rule for RGB changes to "Colour management off" and can't be changed to a different value. I don't understand this.

No.
(Edit: Any one screen usually has to be considered incidental, changing and transient and is not the target-medium, so it makes little sense to work based on its specific limitations.)

If one opens an unprofiled file, Photoshop treats it as if it had the profile selected under RGB-Working-Space embedded and calculates display and conversion on that basis.
(Edit: And that’s the danger of unprofiled files – they would look different if someone edited them who used a different Working Space.)
Assigning such a file a profile is no different from assigning a profiled image a different profile – the RGB-values remain unchanged, the »key« for interpreting them changes and subsequently it will be displayed differently.

Call transcation can handle only one Trasaction(Tcode).
Session method can handle multiple transcations.
Before getting started with the Recording process...we have to know the transcation code. We do recording to record the screen number, screen values, Button values(OK codes) ...etc
For example...while recording we create a record using some t-code (Say MM01) ...Now, we will create a materail master record using the Recording process.
Let us see the process of recoding a single record with MM01 using SHDB(A tool used to record the details of T-code)
Go through these steps for recording by using SHDB.
How to use recording :
Go to SHDB
--> Click on New Recording
--> Provide any name in Recording , For ex: Z_CHAITU
--> Provide the Transaction name as MM01
--> Select the update mode as Synchrounous or Asynchrounus method
--> Click on Start Recording button.
--> It will display MM01 screen.type the appropriate
information in it.
--> Type the Material no as : 4567E (Any no, But there should b 1 Character in it)
--> Type Checmical Industry in INDUSTRY SECTOR
--> Type COUPONS in MATERIAL TYPE
--> Now click on Select Views button.
--> Select BASIC DATA 1
--> Click on Ok button
--> Under Basic data tab under Material, it will display the Material number.
--> Type the short description and Provide EA as Base Unit Of Measure
--> CLICK ON BACK AND IT WILL ASK U TO SAVE THE DATA, CLICK ON YES
--> Again click on Back, it will ask if u wish to save the changes to record entries.
-> Click on Yes
--> Now, u will be in Initial screen
--> Select the record and Click on Program button
--> Now, provide any program name
--> Now, select Transfer from recording
--> Click on Tick mark
--> Give some short description
--> Type as Executable
--> Click on Source Code button
--> Automatically the code will appear in SE 38 program.
U can try these steps with any T-code by knowing the Mandatory fields in it.
---> *Now by following all the above steps ur done with the recording process to create a single record in MAterail master (MM01). Now, we use the same recording process and put this recording under Loop in report program.*
So that, it will follow the same steps automatically to create materail master records from the flat file. If you have 10 records in flat file(Note pad) then it will do the same process for 10 times to upload 10 records from the flat file using the recoding process that we have done by using the SHDB
If you want then i will provide you with the sample program to upload the data for MK01 using Call transcation and Session method.

be answered in a forum, and almost certainly a waste
of time for anyone to answer it. where are your
questions coming from? do some reading, either on the
internet, or in books. they'll explain what eg.

Basic Questions About CSM

We have a CSM installed in a 6513 chassis working as our load balancer for web servers. I have a few basic questions:
1. The current default configuration of probes on our switch indicates 2 minutes interval, 3 consecutive errors before marking real server failure and 5 minutes between probes of failed server. This setting results in 10-12 minute switch over delay in case one server fails.
In one of the Cisco papers I read that the default for these parameters in CSM is 8 seconds, 2 retries and 5 seconds, respectively.
My question is what is the default settings for probe parameters and is there any recommendation for a optimal settings? (I am going to use 1min, 3, 15seconds resulting 0.5 to 1.5 minutes delay and want to make sure there is no concerns with that)
2. Does the sticky timeout affect the switch over delay time? My understanding is that sticky timeour applies to the normal condition when all legs are up and in case of a failure, the traffic will switch over regardless of an existing active sticky session. Is this correct?
3. What is the exact definition of a "connection" in a load balancer? Is there any way to estimate or predict the number of connections for a specific traffic load (e.g. number of connection per user)?

Regarding your current questions :
1/ The default for an icmp probe is 120sec, 3 retries and 300sec for failed.
You can use whatever values you think is necessary for your environment.
However, you need to remember that a probe generates traffic and each probe require process CPU time to send and receive.
With a lot of servers you probably want to avoid low frequency values.
I think your suggested value of 1 minute is ok.
2/ the sitcky timeout does not affect failover.
However, you should be aware that if a server goes dowm, the CSM will send NEW connections to the other servers. But active connection will stay with this server even if down. To change this behavior use the 'failaction purge' command.
3/ A connection is a flow. It is defined by a SRC IP, DST IP, protocol, SRC PORT, DST PORT.
Within a connection you can send 2 bytes or 2 Gig.
So, it is difficult to link the 2 values.
ie: when you load a webpage, if you are using http 1.0 you open 1 connection for every object (text, gif, banner, ...) but with http 1.1 you can download all the same objects in a single connection.
