Basic questions? Upgrade from v 1.56??

Can anybody tell me if you can upgrade from 1.56 to aperture 3? And will that convert my old library so that I use it in the new version?
I upgraded to snow leopard and now cannot access my old library.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
joe
(Kinda ***** to be forced into upgrading!) Any way to gain access to the contents of my old library without upgrading?

Sorry, "stinks" is what i meant to say.
"Kinda stinks to be forced into upgrading"
(I didn't realize that the word that i used was offensive) Sorry everybody!!
Any suggestions for getting an answer to my question? I would think that any common user of this forum would know the answer. I was trying to avoid making a phone call.
The info is greatly appreciated!!
Can one upgrade normally from v 1.56 to v 3?
Is the integrity of the old library in tack with the newer version???
Anybody??
thanks

  • Reports 9i and Graphics Wizard questions - Upgrade from 6i

    Hello,
I am trying to convert my 6i reports to 9i and I have a lot of questions. First, it is my understanding that if we want the reports in the 9i format I will have to recreate all of my graphs. Is this right? Second, when I run the graphics wizard with a report that has multiple queries, it is not retreiving from the query selected in the wizard. Also, with the new graphics wizard can you reuse graphs? I currently have 5 reports that point to the same 2 ogd files. Will I now have to go in and build the same graph 6 times? Finally, if you could point me to some good documentation, I would appreciate it. I have around 30 reports with graphs on them, so if anyone has any suggestions that will make this easier, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Laura
    [email protected]

    Laura,
First, You can run the 6i reports with OGD in reports 9i, provided you have your Oracle 6i home is in system path
and the regsitry variable ORACLE_GRAPHICS6I_HOME is set to pint your 6i oracle home
Now, if you wan to open these 6i report with OGD and modify the report in 9i builder, then the OGDs are loast when saving this reports from 9i
buikder, so you would need to recreate the graphs using the graph wizard
    Thanks

  • New to GB, basic question here:  from my board to Mac to burn CD...

I have a Roland VS1680 (yes 10 yrs old, but works great!). It has all the inputs, effects, mixing and everything I am familiar with...but its CD burning is slow and old. I would like to come out of my board and into my Mac as one final (stereo) track.. so that I can the burn the CD's from the mac.
How (and where) do I get the music (tracks) into the Mac? Some sort of USB interface is obvious, but what program in the Mac (garage band?) can do this?
It would be nice to bring all of it into garage band as one final stereo track, and then maybe master the entire song as a simple 2 track dealio in GB..... then burn to cd!
Uh, how the heck do I do that? What is the USB interface that I need?
    Thanks folks!

    Mfoster wrote:
Thanks! Awesome help. It looks like Apple sells some interface units that suffice. If I am only looking to take the mixed and final product from my Roland to GB is a basic $100 USB interface from the apple store going to be ok?
Do I need to have a powered pre-amp? NOt even sure what that is, but it sounds like I should ask.. I think my roland takes care of that...
Is that: preferences>Audio midi>Built in input the path for normal guitar or whatever item you would want to bring into GB? Or is this a special way for me bringing in the entire stereo tracked song?
You should be aware that taking the stereo mix from the Roland, and channeling it through a series of extra digital to analog to digital conversions to bring it into GB will degrade the sound, so you want to do as little of that as possible. If you're just messing around, it might not matter, but if you want to maintain the sound quality of the Roland, the extra conversions could dull the audio.
I believe the Roland has a digital out, so the very best way to bring the mix into GB is to transfer the audio digitally. If you can figure out a way to cable your roland's digital out to either your mac's digital line in (if it has one) or into a digital input of an interface, then you can get exactly what's in the roland into GB.

  • Upgrade from CS2 to CS5 multi-questions

    A few questions actually..
I very recently just bought an upgrade from Photoshop CS2 to CS5. Everything went well but I don't understand a few, possibly trivial, things.
During the installation process, I in no way had to supply information about my CS2 licence to prove that I even have it. How do you guys make sure that someone who doesn't own a previous version of Photoshop isn't saying that they want an upgrade, thus avoiding the full price of the product?
Also, when you upgrade, does your old previous version license become deactivated? Are you suppossed to remove it from your computer or some other process?
Lastly, when I downloaded the upgrade, I downloaded both CS5 for 32 and 64 bit by default as they were both there. Do I need both on my computer and what's the difference between using/having the two?
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to clarify.
    Thanks in advance!

If you purchased and upgrade then it should ask for a qualifying serial number.  It is also possible you purchased an upsell which means you were basically given a copy of the full version at a discounted price.  The qualification process is done when you purchase the software.
You can continue to use your CS2 license.  You can not however sell it as it is qualifying you to utilize CS5.
For questions about 64-bit I would recommend reviewing http://blogs.adobe.com/scottbyer/2006/12/64_bitswhen.html

  • Basic questions from techie thicko with 'new' G4

I've looked but can't find the answers to these basic questions.
My new (reconditioned) computer as below came with just the operating systems and something called 'Cloner' plus some Utilities.
    A) What is the best way to switch between OSX and Classic?
(It defaults to X on start-up and I can get to X from Classic by re-starting pressing 'x'. If that's the right way to do it, what is the approved way of getting into Classic?)
    B) I'm not sure (after reading about it!) what I can do with Cloner and how.
    C) I have AppleWorks on OS9. Can I update this for OSX? Failing this, is there a Software Download that will give me a basic DTP facility until I can afford to buy an advanced programme? I also have Pagemaker 7 in Classic.
    D) I have been transferring stuff to Classic from my iMac DV 9.2.2 with my card reader and this seems to work well. Anything to watch out for?
There's more but I can't impose on members' kindness too much!
For future reference, is it possible to post pictures on these boards and if so how please? I have Photoshop and hosting sites.
Sorry to be a pain but I really am an idiot about techie stuff.
    Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what Cloner does. It sounds as if it may clone the hard drive, a bit like Carbon Copy Cloner:
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
I'm wondering whether it was just used to put the operating systems and utilites onto the drive in the first place when they reconditioned the computer. Perhaps they use a 'master' drive and just clone it to the drives in the computers they're reconditioning, rather than installing everything separately and repeatedly.
I think version 6 of AppleWorks runs under both OS 9 and OS X natively. If you have an earlier version, I'm not sure whether it's a free downloadable upgrade or whether you have to pay for it.
I'm sure the card reader works fine, although you could network the two computers together with an ethernet cable and create a small network. With two computers you just need a crossover cable to create a crossover network:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106658
If you're thinking of keeping your iMac, that may be a better long term solution. You could then use the iMac as your OS 9 machine and the PowerMac as your OS X machine if you wanted to.

  • Upgrading from 15" MBP to 13" MBP (questions on Adobe CS/Microsoft)

    Hi there,
I have an existing MBP 15" running Snow Leopard that I use for work. I will be purchasing a new 13" from Apple which has Lion to replace my work computer. However, I will be keeping my 15" and would like to upgrade that to Lion (will purchase the Lion software). In addition, on my 15" I have Adobe CS4 and Microsoft Office 2008. I have purchaed the upgrade to Adobe CS5.5 and the new Office 2011 (finally with Outook) which I intend to use on both computers (this is all within the license agreements - installing on 2 computers used by the same user, but not running at the same time).
I basically want the 15" and 13" to mirror each other. I know I can do this with Migration Assistant, but I have questions on the way to prep the computers first before doing so (mainly my concern is tranferring Adobe CS programs versus installing them from the CDs and trasnferring from a Snow Leopard OS to a Lion OS). If anyone has any advice on the options I've listed below, I would really appreciate it. I also plan to post to the Adobe and Microsoft forums but thought I would start here first.
Option 1: Is it better to first upgrade EVERYTHING on the 15" and then use Migration Assistant to tranfser everything including apps to the 13"? This means on the 15", first upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion, then install the upgrade to Adobe CS5.5, install Office 2011 (transfer from Entourage email to Outlook) and then transfer everything to 13" new computer.
Option 2: Should I only upgrade the 15" OS to Lion and then transfer all the apps as is (Adobe CS4/Microsoft Office 2008) to the 13"? After the tranfsfer, then on both computers, I would install from the CDs the Adobe CS5.5 upgrade and Microsoft Office 2011.
Option 3: Should I just transfer everything as is (without upgrading first) from the 15" to the the 13"? This means after the transfer, on the 15" I would install Lion, then CS5.5 upgrade, then Office 2011 from CDs. Then on the 13", I would install from the CDs Adobe CS4, then CS5.5 upgrade, then Office 2011 (I don't really need 2008 on the 13" as this will be my work computer that I need Outlook for).
I'm also wondering in general regarding Entourage to Outlook if is better to do that transfer of email on my Snow Leopard computer first or Lion or does it really matter?
    Thanks so much in advance!

    Mid 2009 to 2011...
Will be a good test whether I/O trumps pure processing. Now, if the OP lucks out and gets the 13" when this year's iteration comes out (Ivy Bridge), then I'll raise the white flag and accept "upgrade".

  • Basic RAM upgrade question

    Hi,
I've read a lot of threads on ram upgrades, but still have a very basic question. I want to buy the $599 Mac Mini, which comes with 1G RAM. Clearly, the Mac RAM is overpriced, but I've been told by a friend to upgrade to at least 2G for $50 extra. I realize Crucial and others sell it cheaper, but I don't know about my ability to put it in.
Is it worth another $100 to go from 2G to 4G. Will I see a noticeable performance increase if I'm using iMovie, Photoshop or Final Cut Express? Or surfing? Are we talking about a few extra seconds when rendering video but no other noticeable effects? I plan to keep this machine for our family machine now that my child is using iWeb.
I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I'm on a very tight budget and worried about my job in this economy. Thanks for your help.

If you are on a tight budget and have any concern about on-going warranty support for a new mini, then it is a better proposition to buy the $50 upgrade to 2Gb from Apple than to do the RAM upgrade yourself and go to 4Gb for little more. It's not that the upgrade is particularly difficult because it isn't, but if you are not reasonably confident in your skills and something goes wrong, Apple could declare the warranty void due to the work you've done on the inside of the system.
There is a notable performance gain to be had from 4Gb as opposed to 2Gb, but much of the difference is less than obvious, particularly if you are careful about what apps you have running at any time. Running Photoshop, for example, would cause the system to slow down if you then launch another major app such as iMovie, but running it alone in 2Gb RAM would give you respectable performance. Final Cut Express isn't particularly demanding on the system so should run well, as would the vast majority of Intel-native applications. It's only if you are running any non-native processes (applications, drivers etc) that 2Gb would prove notably limiting.
If it were me, I'd probably opt for the base model, buy 4Gb RAM from Crucial and do the upgrade myself. Next choice would be the base model, buy the RAM from Crucial and have a local Apple Approved Service Provider do the work for me - some AASPs charge a reasonable fee for this. Third choice would be to buy the base model with Apple-supplied 2Gb RAM and then at a later time replace that with 4Gb from Crucial as and when funds and circumstances reasonably permit it.

  • Interview questions on upgrades from 4.7 to ECC

    Hi,
Can any one please post some potential areas/questions that will be asked for upgrade projects from 4.7 to ECC6.0
    Points will be awarded.
    Thanks

    Hi Frank,
this is good question,  why because sap upgrades from 4.6b to ecc 6.0 is very risky.
take one example , in 4.5b , me21n application having 620 screen where as in ecc 6.0 having 9000 screen . that time we will take care of it.
check the obsolete function modules ,  4.5b , having ws_upload, ws_download.... use cl_gui_frontend_services , under these having differnt type of methods.
once you change the code in ecc , go to tranx : SLIN check the error where it is exact.

  • I've read similar questions and answers, but I am still terrified to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard. The only reason I want to is because I received an iPad which requires an updated system. I have an external hard drive. I have the disks to upgrade

I've read similar questions and have studied the answers, but I am still terrified to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard on my macbook pro. The only reason for doing it is in order to sync my macbook pro with my iPad. I do have an external drive which automatically backs up every hour. BUT.......I am techno-ignorant as well as techno-paranoid. I have the disks to update to snow leopard but knowing doing so may likely change/alter/lose/obliterate my current set-up, it actually makes me feel sick to think of it.
Years ago when updating via Apple Protection Plan tech support, my screen actually went blank, everything gone! The tech told me not to worry, that "we" would be able to restore things, but several hours later I was still looking at a primitive looking screen that wasn't anything like what I had before. His language was too technical, in that there was an assumption I understood things I had zero understanding of. Example: partition my external drive.
Anyway, living hundreds of miles from an Apple service provider, and no Apple techs in my community, I had to wait for a trip to an Apple Store where one of the wonderful guys at the genius bar spent a ton of time getting things back to normal and actually explaining it enough that I had a vague understanding.
So now I am in the predicament again and won't know what to do after installing the new disks and finding a likely mess or absence of documents etc. on my computer. I don't know how to access the external drive, and even if I did I wouldn't know how to move stuff from that to my computer.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm in the same boat as you, I've used Mac's since day one and neglected my Windows education and now it has come to haunt me as I have to learn it like a school kid.
Nearly 99% of all businesses and nearly 95% of everyone use Windows, Steve Jobs declared "The desktop wars are over, Microsoft won" a long time ago.
By 2015 tablets are going to be selling to consumers more than traditional computers, your living proof, you got a iPad.
Apple has already discontinued the Xserver, the Xraid, the MacBooks and the 17" Macbook Pro.
Apple has introduced BootCamp in OS X 10.6 and up, this allows a partition and drivers so one can install Windows on a Mac.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Why do you think they named it "BootCamp"
You can't run a older OS X version longterm like you have with 10.5 anymore, Mac's are being targeted for attacks and older OS X versions are dropped for security updates.
In fact your Mac might still be part of the 750,000 Mac strong Flashback botnet or infected.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trojan_BackDoor.Flashback
    http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/04/how-to-check-forand-get-rid-ofa-mac-flashba ck-infection/
See here, Apple has no security updates for 10.5 users and soon 10.6 is going to be ignored next.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1222
1-1.5 years is the OS X upgrade cycle. Change everytime like it or not.
So I'm thinking about your long term future and how you obviously don't like change, need local assistance like it appears you first claimed.
So buy a new Mac and upgrade your OS X version whenever Apple shows it in AppStore.
When your machine can no longer upgrade to the newest OS X version, then you've got about another 2 more years of security updates before you have to buy a new machine or risk running a insecure one.
Learn here how to go about fixing your own machine and creating backups/bootable clones this way your not having to drive several hundred miles for a software or boot drive repair. Simply reverse clone your troubles away.
    Most commonly used backup methods
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro?view=documents
I'm of the maturity and experience that I know a Mac isn't always the best solution for everyone and even Apple doesn't provide the proper hardware, support or features for everyone. Why only store locations in high traffic ritzy areas?
Our SteveJobs fan here is under 18 years old with good eyes, he's not older like we are with bad or failing eyesight.
The new Mac's  have hard to see glossy screens and the type/UI can't be scaled up easily to accomadate our older eyes, however a Windows 7 machine does allow up to 150% scale of the UI, type etc., and also there are anti-glare screen PC's and just about no more anti-glare screen Mac's.
I wrote this User tip in case you have trouble seeing the screen, at least you can scale the web browsing up
Web browsing for hard of seeing users
Apple might still be selling the anti-glare 15" non-retina on their online store, it's the "high resolution/anti-glare model"
But I can get a 17" 1080i HD anti-glare Windows 7 laptop at Sager for a lot more performance and screen size for the price than a Mac.
    https://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=category_browse&selected_cat=2
Screen size is important as the UI and text can be scaled up for easier reading.
Of course you do now have the option of having Windows pre-installed alongside OS X to begin your transition to the dark side.
Just call and they will accomondate, hold the option/alt key at boot time to swtich operating systems.
    http://www.macmall.com/
Windows 7 looks just as good as OS X, the secret is having a good monitor with most PC's come with don't.
Good Luck and I hope I've given you a lot to think about.

  • Purch. & installed upgrade from iLife 2 to iLife 08, but I have questions..

    Hi ~
_Purchased & installed upgrade from iLife 2 to iLife 08, but I have questions..._
First I made sure I backed up my 5,500 photos in iPhoto to an external hard drive. (The only downfall to this backing-up process is that I haven't found an easy way to back-up the comments attached to each photo. Any advice on this? Part of the "horror" to losing one's photos is also losing the comments added to them over the years.)
Back to the install... I installed iLife 08 and it installed correctly. I checked to see what version of the applications I have in the dock on my desktop - I figured it would just import existing data (photos, tunes, etc.) into the newer version and replace it in the dock - +it only did this for iDVD+, of course it wasn't that easy for the others.
I can't find the newer version of iPhoto. My iPhoto in the dock still says version 2. iTunes in my dock is version 7 (7.4.2). iMovie is version 3 (3.0.3). But the new Garageband is there in the dock. And of course, iDVD is the newer version '08.
I am most concerned with iPhoto and making sure all the photos AND their comments import correctly into the newer iPhoto 08. I am nervous about this so I want to make sure I do the process correctly.
I also want to make sure my iTunes information imports correctly to the newer version as well.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Kathy

If you backed up the iPhoto Library Folder then you got everything - photos, albums, comments etc

The Dock is not important. Look in your Applications Folder for iPhoto 08. That's where it should be. The Dock is just a shortcut to that. What version is in your Apps folder?
To upgrade a Library from v2 to iPhoto 08 all you do is open the Library with the newer version.
