This is an old post but I'm going to reply to it for future reference of others.
Please ignore the first reply to this thread... by default /etc/rctladm.conf doesn't exist, and you should never use it. Just put it out of your mind.
So, then... by default, a process can have no more than 256 file descriptors open at any given time. The likelyhood that you'll have a program using more than 256 files very low... but, each network socket counts as a file descriptor, therefore many network services will exceed this limit quickly. The 256 limit is stupid but it is a standard, and as such Solaris adheres to it. To look at the open file descriptors of a given process use "pfiles <pid>".
So, to change it you have several options:
1) You can tune the default threshold on the number of descriptors by specifying a new default threshold in /etc/system:
set rlim_fd_cur=1024
2) On the shell you can view your limit using 'ulimit -n' (use 'ulimit' to see all your limit thresholds). You can set it higher for this session by supplying a value, example: 'ulimit -n 1024', then start your program. You might also put this command in a startup script before starting your program.
3) The "right" way to do this is to use a Solaris RCTL (resource control) defined in /etc/project. Say you want to give the "oracle" user 8152 fd's... you can add the following to /etc/project:
user.oracle:101::::process.max-file-descriptor=(priv,8152,deny)
Now log out the Oracle user, then log back in and startup.
You can view the limit on a process like so:
prctl -n process.max-file-descriptor -i process <pid>
In that output, you may see 3 lines, one for "basic", one for "privileged" and one for "system". System is the max possible. Privileged is the limit by which you need to have special privs to raise. Basic is the limit that you as any user can increase yourself (such as using 'ulimit' as we did above). If you define a custom "priviliged" RCTL like we did above in /etc/projects it will dump the "basic" priv which is, by default, 256.
For reference, if you need to increase the threshold of a daemon that you can not restart, you can do this "hot" by using the 'prctl' program like so:
prctl -t basic -n process.max-file-descriptor -x -i process <PID>
The above just dumps the "basic" resource control (limit) from the running process. Do that, then check it a minute later with 'pfiles' to see that its now using more FD's.

Online redo logs fill-up due to long running SCM processes

Running Standard SAP Code
Going live with SCM system running SNP/DP GATP how can we avoid having our online redo logs fill-up due to long running processes (i.e., CTM. Process Chains, BOP, DP Runs) Need to know SAP Best Practice regarding this -
Per our developers, BOP jobs performs commit when everything is processed and update table in one go at end, Hence not possible to perform commit regularly. Actually they will have to run BOP for 3200 material with 98000 sales order items.
But after just running BOP for 40 material with 22000 sales orders line items we are getting DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR + CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB dumps
Any assistance on this would be helpful...

Check OSS notes for this error. The BOP compponent has a steady stream of corrections developed by SAP especially in older releases.
Also make sure your Livecache Build is consistent with SCM Release/ Patch level.

Process Order Source Display in SCM

Hello users, please forgive my ignorance in this are but I am trying to understand why a specific users would not have a Source/Target section in an SCM Process Order in a released status.
If the user drills into a process order from the product view then the following data sections should be available for display: Dates/Times, Primary Product, Status, *Source/Target*. For one user the Source/Target section is not displayed.
Is there a users specific setting that determines this display?

Can I set up a review process in LiveCycle? Is what I want to do, at all possible? Anyone chime in.

What is the best way to set up a review process, without violating the EULA and having a form that is editable by the end user AFTER it is submitted.
Basically the process will go like this..
1. A user will log onto our website and click a link where he or she downloads a dynamic form.
2. The user will submit the form to multiple parties at once. (Conditional e-mail, depending on what sections in the form are filled out, different people will get the form)
3. The form will get reviewed, and if any changes need to be made, the person that originally filled out the form will need to get it back and make the necessary changes. (The forms are long, so they can't start from scratch).
4. After the changes have been made, the form will be re-submitted for final review.
5. After the form has been finalized, the completed form will be distributed to about 80 people within the company (attached to an e-mail or something) and these people will use the data within the form to populate what they need to.
Additional information:
-I am the only one that has Acrobat 9 Standard OR Professional.
-Everyone else has Reader only
-The forms are dynamic
-They have to be posted to a website
Is this at all possible? I can't figure out how this can be done.

You can Reader Enable a form in Acrobat v9 Standard, however note the EULA with the restriction on 500 unique recipients. If it is going out to less than 500 you are not limited to the number of data processes that you undertake on the form.

You would need to Reader Enable the form before you put it up on the web page.
You can script a regular button to submit the form to user-entered email addresses. See here: http://assure.ly/eUR4wJ. The first email button could be used to send out the form for review. The last section in the form could be a text field to allow reviewers to add comments and a second email button that would issued the amended form back to the originator for further action.
Both email buttons would get their email address(s) from completed fields in the form. In addition the email submission can be set up to return the PDF form and not just the data. IF the form is Reader Enabled then users with Reader will be able to complete this action.

Word Processing on the iPad Retina Display

Hi There,
I've been browsing the forums for a while and have seen various threads about the WP possibilities with iPad. I've looked at ipages and iworks, and also a couple of others which are paid apps and claim to do mostly the same things (I really only want basic word processing which I can then save and email).
Many of the apps I've tried out are SO slow to load that it's really not worth the hassle. In particular, those which rely on iCloud, Google Drive, DropBox or Sky Drive. On the other hand, a few of the free apps seem to have no possibility to save anywhere which is daft. Some autosave, but woe betide you if you log off before it's done that.
I used Polaris with my Samsung Note to very good effect, it allows export in both word or PDF (or other) formats and also allows direct export from the app if you want to do that. It's pretty basic but sufficed for my needs however there doesn't appear to be a version for the iPad sadly.
If you were about to buy an app PURELY for word processing, and required something which allowed you to email from the app, to convert to pdf (I have a pdf converting app) AND allowed you either to store the doc on the iPad (is this even possible? I'm guessing it is as the Note allows for this and has the same memory size) or uses iCloud or Google Docs - don't really mind which.
I can't seem to find any overall opinion on which is best. Many seem to say iPages but I'm unsure how malleable it is and I don't have an Apple computer, only a PC so I need it to be fully compatible.

Yes, I was wondering about using the Notes app too. Hmm, I've just been looking at some of the links on another similar question and the real problem is, the reviews are terrible for many of the Office Pro type apps. They cost around the same as Pages and claim to do all kinds of things but Documents to Go and Doc to Go Premium are simply slated in the review sections.

I need basic word processing in Java, and there is no time to program JEditorPane. Neither there is any desire to.
Does any one know of a class or a bean available to this end. I need

and being able to check whether the document changed. No tool/status/button bars.

try to search google with java word processor. However nearly everithing use RTF format and when you want to use JEditorPane it will be better to save as HTML pages. And in HTML there is no problem to add bullets, pictures and so on.
If you want to use JTextPane instead I fear that working code with bullets you will find very hardly.

Word processing question

Are there any FREE word processing programs that are already on mac or that I can download?? Everything seems to be a demo, and you have to pay! I am a new mac user and a freshman college student, and I am going to be needing some equivalent of MS Word. Will MS Word be free in Leopard?

The TextEdit that comes already on the Mac is a very good word processor. I didn't know until I did a little exploring that it does everything you need for basic word processing. You can change fonts, type size, margins, tabs. Very basic, but it's good enough for me. I don't need to spend the money or look elsewhere for something else. (And I believe it is compatible with Word.)

Microsoft word- not included in basic macbook?

I want to purchase a macbook but need a word-processing software included. Does the macbook have something like this included? and if not, why in the world would it not be included?

Why should it be included? Apple sells iWork '06 for word processing. Microsoft Word is not an Apple product. OS X includes TextEdit that can perform basic word processing as well as text editing.

Order Process Best Practice Suggestions?

I have to revamp an online order process. The process is broken into 4 steps.
The app as it exists today was built by a different developer and for the life of me, I have wasted about 5 hours trying to figure out exactly what the person is doing in the code just so I can make some basic tweaks to the process.
Could anyone offer what might be considered today's best practice for a step by step order process?
The thought is, if the user could complete step 1, upon clicking next the data elements of the form would be validated and then they would be taken to step 2, etc, etc... until the end where upon submission, the order would then be written to the database and next process triggered internally.
Should I have one page that upon submit of step 1 cycles back to itself, processes the data and then loads a separate div of info for step 2 or...?
Any suggestions would be great. Thank you so much in advance for your help, I sincerely appreciate it.

There is no payment or credit card information being provided.
The user comes online, goes through a basic order process for some work to be done. As mentioned, it is a multi step process for gathering their information.
Once the entire order is in and all the fields validated along the way to ensure they were populated where required, the order is to be written into the pending orders table and an email is sent to the branch closest to the customer notifying them of the new order with a link into the details. The branch then calls them directly to confirm the details of the order before activating it.
So, the code I received, is next to impossible to follow through, for the life of me I can not figure out what the former developer has done. I need to make some changes to the process and if I can not even follow the flow to figure out where to make my changes, that could pose a problem.
I have not coded too much in Coldfusion for the past two years but did so quite extensively before that. I totally agree on the CFTransaction suggestion. I guess what I was looking for is, are there any best practices for coding that I should be aware of, especially considering what I want to accomplish? Previously we used the "fusebox" concept of coding and had most of our code in CustomTags in a very reusable and easy to follow structure and flow.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be great! Thank you very much!

Business process and mapping in BPC

Greetings experts,
I am a BPC consultant on my first project and i need some assistance in the mapping of some client business processes in the system. I am configuring Business planning for the client. The scenario goes as follows:
The client wants to plan for expenditure in different cost centers. They also plan for revenue in different funds centers. I have created manual planning for them for the 2 different scenarios(in BI environment where data sits in an infocube). Now the revenue planning planning and expenditure planning should be integrated in such a way that, when the budgeted amounts are due for release, the system should only release the difference between the revenues collected and the planned expenditures.
Thats the scenario in a nutshell. Could kindly assist me with the most appropriate method of mapping the business process in the system. In business planning there are different processes like amortization, copy, formula, distribution, forecast, etc, but i cant figure out the most appropriate in my business scenario.

When we have to group tcodes / functions for rule creation , we group them according to a business process so that we can easily relate them to each other within the business process. Eg : Procure to Pay.
So the rules have to be created such that in this process there are no SOD violations in the access given to users. Thus it makes risk analysis more logical and simple for analysis.

When we have to group tcodes / functions for rule creation , we group them according to a business process so that we can easily relate them to each other within the business process. Eg : Procure to Pay.
So the rules have to be created such that in this process there are no SOD violations in the access given to users. Thus it makes risk analysis more logical and simple for analysis.

Creating process chains in ECC

Dear APO/SCM experts,
I am a Basis consultant and have been requested by our SCM funtional expert to configure the ECC system so that he can maintain process chains directly in ECC (via transaction RSPC and RSA1).
He receives the following message in ECC when attempting to maintain the process chains: "You can only work in client 000".
I am no SCM expert, but are you not suppose to maintain these chains from SCM? We are using BW as well and the BW consultants have never requested me to perform this action in ECC (as I understand SCM and BW source systems, datasources, process chains etc. are very similar).
So, can you actually create and maintain process chains directly in ECC?

you should be able to create Process chains in ECC or SCM or BW. the process and concept is the same
am not sure why ur SCM functional consultant asked u to create process chains in ECC and what he needs exactly. Maybe u should get more details. Maybe its a ECC process he wants to be done like say the integration models - not sure if you would want to do SCM processes from process chains in ECC
not sure of the msg about the client 000 though
yes you can create Process chains in ECC with the same RSPC transaction
maybe he thinks you can maintain it all from solution manager or a central admin system in ECC

Business Process book

I would like to know more about the business process on SAP. For example, from create a SO, then delivery, billing... what if the delivery goods have somethings wrong, then how to handle in general purpose. what if wrong posting, how to handle and so on. Actually, I would like to know the operation in best practices, not in technical side. Thanks!
