Basic software activation

Hi there,
I have been thinking about writing some kind of software activation, mostly just to learn more about java and networking.
Basically I would like the user of my software (which is me) to registrer the product online before using it.The online registration should produce a key which is bound to that particular installation, once it has been used for running the program.
Can anyone give me a few pointers, as to where I should look/read, or if java already have support for such a feature.

I'm pretty sure you could answer every forum question with that.Of course you can, for some questions it's just a little bit more useless than for others. You may already have noticed that I told you one key element that I thought is hard to learn by googling. I just didn't feel like repeating information that is easily found in the first few hits of "Java software activation howto" on Google.
I'm not looking for a google answer, I'm looking for suggestions from the forum users.And we are looking to get people to be self-reliant. When someone asks a rather general question and doesn't give the impression that he has put some energy into informing himself of the topic beforehand, then this doesn't make us particularly happy

How can I backup Adobe's software activation?

I have purchased Adobe Creative Suite CS6 for Windows and am using it on my desktop and notebook computer. This is the maximum number of computers I'm allowed to use it on. Since the software has an activation and deactivation feature and requires an internet connection, I assume that an activation on a third computer would not be possible. So I really have to make sure that I don't lose any of the two systems because I'd also lose one activation with it. (Or I'd need to mess with the support which I'm trying to avoid.)
Today I've noticed that my notebook shows strange error messages. Applications were missing or would not start due to wrong reasons (not compatible with x64, although this was specificly the x64 version, and it's always worked fine). I ran a chkdsk and it fixed tons or filesystem errors. Now other programs are missing and I can't even install any new ones... Unfortunately I noticed the error while trying to perform a Windows system backup. That stupid thing deleted the old version and messed up the new one. So I haven't got any right now. There's also no system restore points, so I can only reinstall the system.
Don't worry, no user data is lost, but I'm kind of lucky that Photoshop still started and I could deactivate it before that wouldn't work anymore as well. (Computer systems often die slowly...)
So my question is: What files or registry keys do I need to copy to a safe location to backup Adobe's software activation on my computer? Would it be possible to restore such a backup on the very same hardware (maybe another disk drive in case the previous one died) but with a freshly installed Windows (same version)? I've learned several times that I cannot rely on a complete system image backup. The only backups that have ever worked 100% reliably for me were those where I copied files to a known location in a known format. But that doesn't include the activation I guess. I'd like to know where it is located so that I can perform a decent backup of it.

As long as nothing in your computer has changed, a system backup/restore will keep the activation. There are various things that activation looks at to produce the activation key, MAC address & HD are two of the obvious ones (there are more). So, as long as the backup is used to resotre on the same hardware, you shouldn't have to worry about re-activation.
If the computer breaks and you need to install on a new computer, you'll need to contact the Adobe Activation customer service to reset your activations. For more info see: Activation, deactivation | Adobe products

I find in the portal software and serial number for activation, but when I enter the serial (after you log in with the adobe id) tells me that the serial number is not correct.
Tednto contact Customer Support directly (via chat) but nothing ever done offline.

i know you've tried adobe support, but if they can't help you no one here can help you unless there's some problem support can but won't handle.

Many problems with software activation with software purchased online

In the last few weeks, I have had a lot of problems with software activation.
I purchased 10 copies of Office. 5 would not activate. I took the software back to the local as suggested by customer service, but was denied an exchange.
I purchased 7 copies of Adobe Photoshop elements. 3 activated, the rest did not.
What is going on? Can I get these replaced, refunded, or activated?

That’s quite the amount of software to purchase! I’m sure you were quite disappointed to find that not all of the software codes seemed to be activated, delaying your use of the software. Using the email address you registered with the forum, I was only able to locate eight copies of Microsoft Office, and couldn’t locate any copies of the Adobe Photoshop Elements. That being said, I was able to see that some of the codes did fail to process through the activation process. I would be happy to look into getting these activated for you.

I am getting the error when i am accessing the T-CODE RSA1.

I checked the ids of my colleagues all are getting the same messages...

1. Check in SU53 tcode
2. You are having RSECADMIN/PFCG tcode access?? If yes you can give authorisation for the same.
3. You dont have S_RS_ADMWB - authorisation
4. for your user id give this above authorisation
5. If you are unable to do the same, ask your basis team to give you the authorisation

Why such basic software for 6520?

I have the 6520 eprint printer and am running Windows 8, 32-bit. I am baffled as to how a printer with great capabilities has such frustratingly basic software. My older printer with less capabilities offered SO much more functionality in it's software. Why would HP take that away from it's customers?

Sounds like you might have an issue with the software, J Scott. Now first, have you installed the full feature or the basic software package? Depending on how you installed the printer the features of the software may change.

That is a link to the full feature software. I would recommend removing the version you have and installing those full feature drivers to see if there is a change in what capabilities it has.

They're full installs so the should run on for you without a problem. Drivers first and the applications. MediaSource is like MS Windows Media Player. It's a software suite that allows you to play media files as well as organise content on your player.

It comes with iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand, but not with Pages, Numbers and Keynote. You have to download them from the Mac App Store.
Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and accept all these apps, so they will be downloaded and installed free of charge.

Software activation

My computer hard drive dies so I down loaded my Adobe PhotoShop Elements 9 to my new Mac I then decide I would also like to have this on my PC
However I am now viewed as having activated the software on more than 2 computers and so cannot gain access on my PC using the licence numb er I have.
Can you indicate how to resolve so I can use on both computers?

Is my new software activated?

I followed the directions which said that after installing, I needed to simply create an adobe account. So I did that and filled everything out but when I opened Photoshop for the first time, it prompted me to activate my stuff. Soo... it is activated or is there something else I need to do? I really dont want my software to stop working after 7 days or whatever. Please help... thanks
Also, I notice there are two versions of each program I got (cs6 and "cs6 64 bit") what does that mean? Should I open and use the regular one or the 64 bit one?

What software are you trying to activate? Please provide a few more details on how you got the screen asking you to activate the software(as Preran mentioned earlier were you connected to the internet when you first launched the software?).
Also on the 64 bit front, if you have a 64 bit machine use the 64 bit version of the software.

I registered it with Adobe on Jan 11, 2008 and have provided a copy of the screenshot of MyAdobe showing the serial number and date of registration. I have also provided a scanned copy of the DVD case with the matching serial number of my software. I have used it for the past 4 years and have had to call in for activation during this time as well with no problems. I purchased a new computer again and called in for activation and they will not activate it because they are saying now their records reflect that someone else registered this software in 2007. They have agreed with me that had this serial number been registered prior to me registering it then I would not have been allowed to register it but they still will not activate my software. They are saying they are trying to determine that the software belongs to me - but nobody can tell me what they are doing to determine this!! In the meantime I still cannot use my software and it's been 20 days since I first contacted them about this. They have told me someone would call me back on certain dates and times and I have not received call backs and I always have to call them. I have spent over 12 hours on the phone with them and trying to get this matter resolved.
There is no information on how to contact Adobe's legal department on the website and support would not provide it either. My husband is an attorney and would like this information so can someone guide me as to where it is located?
