Basic "why" quest. re: importing songs from CDs

When I put my CD in the eMac to import songs, the songs from the CD show up on the iTunes screen out of sequence. The song that is first on the original CD/album is now number 7, song 3 from the CD is now number 10, etc.
Why is this?
How do I put the songs back in the original order that they were in on the CD?
Also, how do I manually move songs in my iTunes Library? I know that iTunes will arrange the songs, but is there a way that I can override that?
Thanks!

Don't be afraid of the software. Poke around in the prefs and see what different options do. As long as you pay attention to what you are doing so you can put it back like it was you really can't hurt anything. And always remember the Cancel button. As you learn how the software works and why it does what it does you will become more confident and the next thing you know you'll have thousands of posts on this board and will be helping people every day.
As to rearranging the order of tracks... you can only sort tracks in the main Library by the columns (Name, Artist, Tracks, Album, etc.), not drag them into different orders. But Playlists are a different matter. In both Smart Playlists and static Playlists tracks can be sorted by clicking the column headers. But if you want the tracks in a certain order then click the column to the far left, the one that contains the numbers and you can then drag and drop the tracks into whatever order you want them to be in.

  • Importing songs from CDs - not showing up in my Library

I am aving trouble importing songs from CDs.  I completed the process as instructed - using the "import this CD" button (I have done this many times successfully).
The import process ran OK.  When the Import process completed, I looked in my music Library and the songs were not there.
I repeated the process - same result.  Nothing in my music library.
    What should I do?

When I load the CD, iTunes recognizes it and asks me if I want to Import the CD.
When I click on "Import CD", the song titles are retreived and show up.  The iTunes bar at the top of the screen shows "Importing track 1" or "Importing  the song by title".  Each song is imported, and I can see each song being impotrted via the iTunes bar at the top of the screen.  iTunes shows that the CD has been imported, and the system dings when the import is done.
This is exactly the same as every other time I've imported CDs.  The only difference is that the songs do not show up in the library.
    Thanks

  • Importing songs from cds soooo slow.....agghh ive no patients!!

when im importing songs from a cd to itunes it is soooooo slow. the time it takes to import the song i could have played it twice! This isnt a major problem as it is still in working order but the speed is rediculous. Does anyone know if there is a setting which i can adjust the speed that songs copy from a cd????? if someone could help it would be great....for my sanity's sake!!!!

I have an elderly Toshiba running XP Pro-SP 2. With iTunes 6.0x I was able to import CD's at 4X-6X. Considering the CD Drive maxes out at 8X - that was OK. Well, 7.0 imported at .1X that is POINT ONE X. And "upgrade" to 7.0.1 increased the speed to a wopping .8X.
I tried making a second library. That got me up to 2X. (My library is over 20Gig - so it seemed to fall into the large library problem zone.)
I went back to 6.0.4 - I am not a happy camper since I couldn't find a "recent" copy of an older version of iTunes. Ended up "rebuilding" my library - lost playlist in the process.
I am happy to have 6.0.4 back and running. I never connected my iPod to 7.0 -
It will be a long time before I install a new version of iTunes. There was no reason for me to upgrade. I was just a little bored when iTunes announced "New Version - want to upgrade?" My fault.
Thanks for listening to my crabbing.

  • Can't import songs from CDs

I have had nothing but problems since upgrading from iTunes 4.something to 6.2. I only upgraded so that I could start downloading podcasts - the podcasts work great, but now whenever I try to import a CD, it will take about 20 minutes per song to import, and then afterwards will say each song is 789 minutes long and there's nothing there, if I hit play each song will just scroll through without playing, going from one to the next. I had this problem before when I upgraded, before podcasts - I eventually just uninstalled whatever new version I had and reinstalled 4.whatever it was. I really like the podcasts, though, so I'd like to try and figure out what in the world is wrong with this stupid thing. I had no problems at all with the prior version.
The only thing I can find on the support site is to uncheck the Use Error Correction When Reading Audio CDs button in the preference menu. I've done that and it did nothing at all.
Please help! I've got some new CDs I'd really like to actually put on my iPod sometime this decade.

This issue use to pop up alot over in the "iTUnes For Windows" fourms I don't remeber the fix rightoff but I do remember theres afew different fixes for it depending on your setup, there no "One Fix".
Goto the PC makers site and download/install all updates they offer for your model. Scan the system for malware that may be affecting iTUnes using your adware/spyware scanner or Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Also search the forums by typing in "789" to the right side of this page. You can narrow your seach to the "iTUnes for windows" forums
If Im thinking right some CD burning programs and antivirus programs cause this too and are fixed by updating those programs. Try posting this issue in the "iTUnes For windows" fourm too so people there will see this and be able to better point out the issue

  • I can't get the album info when I'm trying to import songs from a cd. Any Help?

When I click on advanced-get track names it says Server Error. And when I import anyways and go to library and try to get info again it says can't connect to gracenote database or cddb is not available for some of these items. Which I know is not true because they are not hard to find cd's or whatever. I try with a few other cd's and still nothing same problem. What do I do? Reinstall Itunes or what?

    Hi there,
I have included a couple of article below that should cover the process for importing the CDs and then syncing those to your iPhone. I would recommend reviewing it thuroughly as a lot has changed in iTunes 11.

  • Mac OSX 10.6.8 can't import songs from cd

When I try to import a cd, only certain songs show up in my iTunes library. During the import process, it appears as if all songs are importing correctly.

Does it happen with all your CDs?
If it is only one particlar CD, error correction may be interfering. Try to disable error correction in the iTunes Preferences and try again to rip the CD.
To turn on error correction when importing songs from CDs:
    Choose iTunes > Preferences.
In the General pane, click Import Settings.
Disable “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs.”
Insert the CD and import the songs again.

  • Some songs not importing correctly from CDs with time "798.57...."

Hi, a random selection of songs from CDs I am burning are showing the time as "798.57...." and therefore they don't play either in iTunes or on my iPod. This has happened to a LOT of my songs that are from original CDs, but only to one or two songs on the CD. Any help?
    Thanks,

  • Can't import songs from music library to itunes!

I have no problems importing songs from audio cds into itunes, but it won't recognize any of the files that i have in other folders of my computers (in mp3 format). and when i select 'import' and these songs, it just doesn't do anything. any suggestions to help??? thanks!
    dell inspiron 4100   Windows XP

Most of them are files burned from an audio CD onto another computer, and then saved onto a USB device and then transferred onto my computer (I no longer have the original CDs, hence the roundabout procedure). some of the files however, are simply from 'my music' folder that i had previously burned onto my computer before installing itunes. i've checked the status of all the files--and none are protected. any suggestions? thanks!
Reknath, where did these files come from? If there
were downloads from other websites, they are probably
protected & that's why you can't get them into iTunes.

  • Importing Songs from CD

I am having trouble importing songs from my cd (as title suggests) only 789:57:13 Seconds (which is basically 7 seconds) is importing from each song on all my cds, when songs are generally 3 to 4 mins long... anyone know how to help? I have tried looking everywhere, but nobody seems to have the same problem. Though this is probably just a setting I ned to change or something? It occured after downloading the new version of itunes onto my computer

I don't know if this will help but try the same procedure in the Windows media player (if that's what you have, I missed your information) or use another program like Record Now which comes with a lot of computers. I was getting pieces of songs from perfectly new CD's and I wasn't able to get a clean copy until I went through Record Now copying the songs to a "my music" directory, then to I-Tunes seemed to accept the whole song. Good luck.

  • How can I get songs (from CDs) on my Nano onto my laptop?  Do I have to rip all the CD's again just becasue I'm using a different computer?

How can I get all my songs (from CDs) onto my laptop from my Nano?
Do I have to rip all those CDs again even though they are on the Nano?
I thought I was allowed to have multiple PCs and use the sync feature.  Yet when I plug in the Nano the message says it will sync to what's on my laptop which are only a few songs I've purchased!!
I thought Apple was better than that?!  And to think I was going to purchase an iPad!  But if I can't synch my music to other devices, why bother.
In order to get my music to iCloud via iMatch, I guess I have to rip them all again!  What a pain in the butt...:(

  • Importing songs from a protected CD

Is there any way to import songs from copyright protected physical CDs into my itunes library? The songs will upload to Windows Media Player, but will not convert to AAC in itunes. Sometimes, when I insert a copyright protected CD into my drive, nothing happens at all.
I have heard of a way to do it that involves ripping the songs to WMP, burning them onto a new CD, and then uploading them to itunes, but I have not tried it yet, and this seems like a lot of extra work. Is there an easier way to do it?
Thanks so much for the advice.

You can take an output directly from your hi-fi's tape out socket to your computer. You can then save and edit this output using audio editing software like the open source program Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
In addition to the software you'll need an RCA to 3.5 mm audio plug cable to connect the Tape Out sockets of your amplifier to the audio input of your computer.
You can use this method on LP, Cassette and also on Copy Protected CDs that won't play on your computer.

  • New Computer, is there any way to import songs from an ipod to a computer?

My computer doesn't have the songs from my old computer so I was wondering if there was a way to import songs from an iPod to a computer, because if I update my iPod now, all of my songs will be lost.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
