Bass causing distorted so

Hello,?I have a X-Fi Elite card with the Gigaworks S750 speaker system. For some reason lately i have been having problems with my bass. Normally the bass would be excellent, crystal clear, etc, but now it seems to be very very deep, almost too deep, and it causes distortion in whatever i am playing because of this. I have looked high and low through all my settings, and nothing i can think of has changed. I even reset all settings to default and tried again, to no avail. It's getting very annoying now, i even had to turn off Crystalizer because turning that off seemed to reduce the problem very slightly. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love my old sound back again.

Disable the "Memory Remapping" and "Disable execution bit" features in your BIOS if you can. This will disable the PAE kernal in Windows and should rectify the issue 00%.

  • Does moving 'Volume Adjustment' slider up (to the right) cause distortion?

Bought a lot of songs on iTunes and also imported several hundred CDs. Want to adjust the volume on some to boost the quiet tracks and lower the loud ones so everything plays at basically the same volume. Don't want to use Sound Check. Does moving the "Volume Adjustment" slider up (to the right) under "Options" in "Get Info" cause distortion? Hoping it's more like what the name says - just a boost to the playback only volume for that one track and doesn't cause the original digital recording to go into the red.

    Works great.

    It can easily do this.

  • PLEASE help - Elements 8 forcing 16:9 to a 4:3 layout causing distortion

I'm so frustrated with Elements 8 that it's actually starting to make me feel ill now...!
I've been trying for the last four hours to make a simple six minute movie on Adobe Elements 8. I won't bore you with all the details of the intense frustration of using this program (mainly to do with massive massive PC useage which causes the whole thing to crawl along making every task take four times longer than it should) but having finally acheived getting the thing edited and saved it's managed to convert what started out as a widescreen video into 4:3, so everythig is squeezed and distorted.
I've tried everythig in the save area to do it differently, but no joy.
Having researched it as best I could (not easy) I find that there are settings before you save. Basically there are two that apply to me:
    PAL DV Standard
    PAL DV Widescreen
Both squeeze the movie into 4:3.
I've used this program before and got Widescreen in, widescreen out no problems, but not any more.
I've tried searching the help menus, I've tried finding a way to contact Adobe, but total blank.
    Can anyone pleas please help?

Thank you. Adobe forums won't let me copy and paste the question and I've just about lost the will to live with this one after five hours now.
I know that sounds pathetic but it's just ground me down to nothing.
    I give up.

  • I have some party footage that music was so loud, bass is distorted ...

I need to fix some footage that is good except audio was so loud bass has major distortion when listening to it. In the event it can not be repaired, I need to at least get it so it is not so noticeable. I am open to any and all suggestions.

Sebastian, its an issue with the entire recording being overdriven. I don't know much about post-production audio processing but, I had the same problem with a concert shoot I did for my school. If you did a multi-cam shoot see if you have good (or better) audio from one of the other shoots. I was fortunate enough to end up with better audio on one of the cameras. If you want to try messing around with the eq you could do that, I'd probably try reducing gain or using a compressor first. I ended up having to use some of the ****** audio I got, and just dropping the level helped make it less noticeable. If you think the EQ will work, which it might, I'd start in the middle (around 250-1K range) and work your way down. The downside of messing around with the EQ is that once you do achieve your goal of getting all that distortion out, you have really ****** sounding audio. If you just drop the gain or level it can make the distortion less noticeable without comprimising the original mix.

  • GarageBand opens, My Harmon Kardon Bass goes Distorted!

This has been happening for a while, but more so now than before. Anyways, I've noticed a pattern. Everytime I have my Harmon Kardon 20 watt sub plugged in via USB to my 17" Powerbook G4 and am playing music with iTunes and open up GarageBand, the bass turns all crackely and blown. Also, whenever I play or use bass on GarageBand through a hip hop kit or whatever, the bass is blown or distorted. With garageband closed, there is no problem. If I open up GarageBand and the bass goes crazy, I usually have to close GarageBand in order for the bass to return to normal. This usually works. What is going on here? It's driving me crazy, and headphones are no good because they're ruining my ears. Any thoughts or anyone else have this problem?

This is only a guess, because I've not got HK USB speakers: But maybe the master volume in GB is up too high. Take it right down and then turn up your speakers, see if that does it.

  • IO-Link RF Output Bass sounds distorted

Hi, Having just recieved a new SKY+HD box after my trusty white box finally conked out,  I've had to fit an IO-link RF box to get my other TV (using a magic eye) working.   I got this all set up and working easily enough, but for one thing: The sound distorts badly on loud low frequency sounds (eg during bass sounds in background music or rumbling sound effects).  I've seen this problem mentioned on this board and various others, but I haven't been able to find a solution. I'm now on my third IO box having tried the Global one from SKY; the triax one and another cheaper model. I've tried changing/retuning the RF channel on my TV to no effect. There seems to be no way of adjusting the output volume from the Sky box or the input volume on the TV. I've tried connecting a short cable in case my cabling was faulty (although it worked fine with my old Sky box) Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi, The problem I'm having is with low bass sounds becoming distorted (clicky/raspy) on my second TV while using a IO-link box with Magic eye TV-link set up.  Eg. while watching 'Penny Dreadful' the other night there was a loud heartbeat sound effect used in the program which distorted badly, that's the sort of sound that seems to be affected. My Magic eye TV-link set up is very simple, there are no splitters or amplifiers, just a shortish (<10m) coaxial cable between the IO-link and the Magic eye.  Everything was working fine with my old white Sky+ box, it's just changing to a new Sky+HD wi-fi box and introducing the IO-link thats changed. (as I said in my previous post, I have tried 3 different IO-link boxes) Further to my original post I have also tried updating the sky box software and switching off my wi-fi router (in case of interference) all to no effect.  I've tried loads of RF channels (recomended ones and at random).  The actual signal on my other TV is actually quite strong; the picture is very good; the sound is very clear apart from the low base distortion; the Magic eye changes channels no problem. Any ideas? I've can't think of anything else to try...

  • IPhone (iOS 5) High Bass Audio Distortion

Ever since I got the iOS 5 update, my music's been sounding very distorted. I know it's not my headphones because I listened to my music with them on iTunes and there was no problem with it but when I listen to the songs on my iPhone, it gets all fuzzy and distorted. Can someone please come up with a solution to this?
And how can I contact Apple?

I have noticed the same problem since upgraded to iOS 5. Nothing to do with Equalizer/Volume settings/Sound Check as these are switched off on my Iphone4 - in iOS4 and iOS5.
I had listened to the same song just before the iOS5 upgrade, and then immediately after the upgrade an hour later. Huge difference!! Songs in iOS5 are now more bassy (but the bad kind). Very disappointed.
In some songs, the increased bass results in horrible distortion and made headphones crackly.
I understand this happens if you are using expensive head/ear phones - someone in Apple has boosted up the Bass setting in iOS 5 in order to make cheaper earphones sounds "better" but unfortunately has a detrimental effect on high-performance headphones (like the £250 Bowers and Wilkins P5).
For more than a year, my songs sounded perfect/natural on iOS4 with Bowers and Wilkins P5, without any need for EQ/Soundcheck....and now iOS5 has destroyed the audio quality.
I hope Apple will restore the music quality in iOS5. Please Apple - return the dB+ settings to their proper levels. Test them with good quality headphones sold in your stores!

  • Asking CREATIVE, Zen V PLUS Bass boost Distortion!!

    HI,
I just bought a Zen V Plus and it has the some **bleep** problem! If you turn the Bass Boost on it MAJORLY distorts and if you combine that with a bass heavy EQ setting it's outragious!
    Thanks & Regards,
    2Creative

    Stan,
Looks like it's .wav format and FYI it's 4K bytes per second of recording. Held it up to my stereo and the sound quality is probably what you'd expect for such a mic - bit muddy but tolerable and sensiti've to exactly where you put the mic.
I'm guessing you could find a .wav to mp3 convert utility on the web but I haven't looked. Mmmm maybe I have a long time ago - search on CNET.com
    Hope this helps,

  • DTT2200 center cable causes distortion

I have had a set of DTT2200 for a while now and they have been generally good. Yesterday though I transported them five hours and plugged them into my brothers audigy card and have a weird problem.
When I plug only the green and black in, the creative speaker test is crystal clear for both fronts and both rears. When I plug in the centre cable I immediately get a loud distortion in the subwoofer, the center speaker starts hissing loudly, and during the speaker test ALL 5 speakers are hissing and sound like the poor test woman has her head down a toilet.
All 5 speakers are fine, i've checked them in different spots, and as i said with only front and rears plugged in it is crystal clear.
Near as i can figure it it has to be one or all of three things
    1) My brothers centre socket on his audigy is stuffed
    2) The cable/connector is stuffed
    3) Something came loose inside the subwoofer and now it's stuffed
I realise my speakers are old now and most people will just say "get a new set and get over it", but if anyone has ideas it would be appreciated.

There are a few threads discussing this and a couple of different things that may be causing it. If its really loud noises like explosions etc that only seem to cause it you probably have the same problem that I do.. you can't adjust the volume of the spdif input, and when the xbox plays loud noises your sound card is clipping it badly. I've posted my 2 cents on it at the end of this thread:

  • MacPro causing distorted video

I am having problems with my MacPro outputting to my TV.
I use a 32" Philips LCD TV as my primary display, and is connected via DVI to HDMI cable. previously i had been using an iMac 20" to connect using the same TV and same cable (with added miniDVI to DVI adaptor). This resulted in no problems at all.
But now with the new MacPro connected instead.....I am getting video distortions occasionally. It looks like the video is not refreshing fast enough and i see a weird horizontal distortion bar run across an area of screen for a second and then its fine again for a while.
Any ideas on how to resolve?
i have SL set to 1080i for screen resolution which should be correct too.

I notice you started another thread with the same question as before (word for word!).

I would ask in Logic Pro Discussion (I couldn't find anything on a quick search) except for:
    Video dropouts
Anyone using Mac Pro for more than very light or casual use, I would strongly recommend 4GB RAM. Apple even goes so far as to say that with FCP, it is essential for performance to have a 4 x 1GB (2 x 1GB on each Riser) to enable full 256-bit quad-channel memory bandwidth. The other part, to make good use of four internal drive bays.

  • Fade causes distortion

I'm trying out Soundbooth and find that when I add a fade to a track, it creates a high pitched distortion.  The harder the fade, the worse the distortion.  At first I thought it was the Dell soundcard, but it does the same when I use an external audio interface.
For the internal card, I used the WDM driver, and for the external enterface I used the ASIO driver.
    Any ideas?

Can you be more specific as to what you're doing and what this sound is?  For example, are you just using the fade in/out controls on the waveform to create a fade?  Do you just hear this artifact in playback mode, or is it actually being written to the file and audible if you play the new file in a different application?  Is the sound only audible for the period of the fade, or does it affect the entire file?

  • Nik Complete plug-ins causing distorted screens in Aperture2

I have recently downloaded the suite of applications by Nik software that run within Aperture 2 on a trial basis.
    Has anyone had this issue??
Most of the time when I hit Z to zoom in on the picture to see the effects of Dfine or some of the other effects I get a B&W screen that has horizontal / diagonal stripes on my screens. Is this a trial plug-in problem? I called Nik Software to address this with them. They were scratching there head. I also had a similar issue with a trial version of Noise Ninja as well. I like what these programs can do . . . however distorted screen during 100% preview (hitting Z key) does not work!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your response.
    Michael Lothner

well, I tried several times again.
The bug appears only when I use "crop" or "straighten" before use a nik plugins.
in this case we can remember that and before use a nik plugins and successively crop or straight the image. it's all.
    hope in a soon fix...

  • Extracted audio caused distortion in video timing

    i need help!
i am making a music video for class.
from the edit menu i chose select all and then extracted audio, so that I could go in individually to each clip and delete the audio i did not need. when i tried to do a test delete and played the clip back the audio was gone like i wanted, but the song and the video were totally out of sync and my computer froze up and just played a bleep of sound here and showed a random clip there.
it took forever to unfreeze. it is still out of sync even after restarting my computer. the audio is still extracted from all the clips but the video and audio are still totally out of sync. I'm thinking if I could just unextract all the audio or revert it back to the original...that would solve the problem, but it will not let me do so?
some of the audio files are still available in my trash including audio for the whole video.
    any suggestions?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
'Extracting' audio just copies it and puts it in an audio track underneath the video, and then silences the original sound within the video clip. So it does two jobs, instead of just silencing the audio.
To silence audio within a clip, just click on the little clock, at lower left, to show the full Timeline view, and then in the Menu at the top of the screen use 'View' and 'Show Clip Volume Levels'. You can then select a clip, and click on the little loudspeaker icon, alongside the volume level "Clip: 100%".
Your audio going out of sync sounds more like iMovie 4 rather than iMovie5/HD. But if your hard disc is close to being full on the iBook, that can cause problems for iMovie.
To fix things, you could try the following:
    (1) As your audio should now be in separate audio clips beneath the video, you should be able to click on and then slide ('drag') your audio clips to line them up with the appropriate video, then use Apple+'L' to Lock the audio to the relevant video.
    (2) As all the original audio remains within the video clips, but it's just had its volume reduced to zero during the 'Extraction', you could select the video clips, and return their volume up to 100% with that little volume slider at the bottom of the screen. When you've done that, UN-TICK (un-check) the little boxes at the extreme right which switches on or off the sound from the audio track(s), so that only the video track is ticked, and try playing the video: all the audio should now be back. If that plays OK, you can then just delete all the separate audio in the track(s) beneath, then Save your project. Then re-tick (check) the audio track boxes again, so that they're not disabled.
The original audio should now be restored, and you can do what you like with it. But it's always better to just reduce to zero any sound you don't want, rather than duplicating it - by 'Extracting' - and then just silencing the original ..and possibly the duplicate. That doubles the work which your Mac has to do during playback ..as it has to keep looking for the separate audio instructions, in its master project file, as well as playing back the video.
So (a) make sure that you've LOTS of spare space on your iBook, and (b) don't strain it too much by giving it too much to do, and (c) things may go smoother if you keep your video projects on a separate, fast (5400rpm or faster) FireWire hard disc (formatted as 'Mac OS Extended' or 'HFS+') plugged in to the iBook, rather than on the iBook's internal disc, and (d) make sure that you have no other programs running when you're editing with iMovie ..as iMovie needs as much of the Mac's attention as possible, and may be sluggish on a slow Mac if there are other programs running.
    Hope this helps..

  • Bass sounds distorted in Logic

I'm trying to get into this whole recording bajizzle, but I'm having issues with recording bass lines. The problem is that when I play the bass, the lower E-string (any fret) just peaks a LOT higher than the others. I'm using Guitar Rig's bass amp. I've tried adding a compressor, but it only makes the other strings lower.
You probably need some other info. I'm not sure what more to add.
    Thanks

Just a couple of questions... what are you using for and audio interface and is the bass plugged directly into the interface or are you coming out of some kind of preamp. Does the bass have active electronics?
Also.. if you're recording at 24-bit you don't have to worry about recording as hot as possible so you can give yourself some headroom and tame the low E string with some EQ.
Gain staging is important.. if your bass has active electronics you will want to set the tone controls to a -flat- position and turn the volume down. The audio interface volume should be higher than the bass volume. I usually set an interface input volume to about 7 then bring the instrument volume up until I get an acceptable level.
Since you mentioned the E string is loud on any fret...... does the bass have an adjustable pickup, can you bring the pickup height down a bit on the E-string.
    Bass ----->--<--Interface Input -----><--Logic Effects----->
Gain staging is the proper setup of volume so that that an input stage is not overdriven by the previous output stage.
