Batch Change Problem

Recently I used batch change to label a folder of photos with a date (AUG 10). This morning when I opened the library I was horrified to find that I must have inadvertently selected ALL the events rather than all the photos in the one event! Every image I have in this library is now AUG 10.
Is there any fix for this ridiculous mistake?
Thanks.

Exactly what are you doing and where is that error coming from
TO restore a Time Machine backup you launch TM and in the TM window go back to the time you want - select the iPhoto library (by default in the pictures folder) and click restore - it is recommended that you use the option to restore to a different location keeping both the restored version and the current problem version until you sort everything out - then you delete the problem version

  • Batch date change problem in iPhoto

I have hundreds of printed photos I scanned in 2009. Even though they were taken over three decades iPhoto thinks they were all taken in 2009. I separated them into years, numbered them, and put them in folders which became events. I tried using batch date change -- the first one in the event is OK, but the others changed  all different. Example: I changed picture one, in event folder "1999" from 3/5/2009 to 1/1/1999. All of the rest of the pictures changed to the same time difference that they were when I scanned them. I didn't scan them all in chronological order, so that doesn't help at all. Do I have to manually change each of my 9000 photos? This is a problem when I try to show a chronological slide show on Apple TV.

Scanned photos do not have an EXIF Capture Date field in the file like photos taken with a digital camera do.  Therefore iPhoto uses the file created date or import date for those photos.
You will have to group all 1999 photos into an album, arrange them in the order you want and then use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option and add a 1 minute or so between photos.
Then do the same for the next year's photos.

Glad it helped. Everyone has been bitten by this at one time or another. Fortunately you only get bit once
Well if you haven't already read it two or three times the User manual is really very good. Apple really did a nice job with it. The on-line version is nice because it is searchable.
After that the Apple Pro Training Series book Aperture 3 is very useful. Its basically split into three parts. The library, adjustments and sharing. In addition if you get all the way through it you can take the Certification test and become, well certified.
Rwboyer who posts here on and off has a good site and a couple of ebooks that I found useful.

  • How to batch change the standard value of routing

    Dear all,
I meet a problem, and need you help.
As you know, we can use T-code "CS20"  to batch change a component's quantity in different Bom by a factor.
           for example:  Component a in Fert. A,  quantity change from 6g x 0.9 = 5.4g
                               Component a in Fert. B,  quantity change from 8g x 0.9 = 7.2g
now, my question is how to Batch change the standard value in routing. (select by work center)  CA85N can select the value, but seems can not batch change by a factor,
           thanks in advance

It is not a big task for u prasobh...Just play in CEWB for 5-10 mins you will understand everything....

  • Can I batch change titles within iPhoto while keeping the original IMG_(4digit) filename/title as PART of the new title?

Using iPhoto '09/8.1.2 on a MacBookPro, with 40,000+ photo library, having the (apparently common) problem of CD burn errors (with Toast and with Disk Utility) when 2 photos end up having the same underlying filename assigned by the camera.  To try to avoid this, I want to retitle pictures within iPhoto so I can utilize the "use title as filename" option when exporting (because I guess I can't burn CDs from WITHIN iPhoto because of this problem, right?).  I was hoping to create new titles that were a combination of the existing 4 digit filename assigned by the camera, combined with new descriptive text (either date, or event title would be fine), and hoping to save time by using Batch Change (which I've never tried - just seen it mentioned here in perusing discussions).  I've also seen reference to "Automator" (which may be over my head), but again not sure if that can be used within iPhoto to combine existing/new title text.  (Also, I saw mention of a script written by Toad at Toad Hall site, but the link to it was bad - may be over my head, also: never tried a "script" before...)  Thanks in advance!

No.  Coming out of iPhoto you're limitied to the Title, real file name, Album name or (in the Export window) Text  with or without sequential number.
However, if you export out with the orignal file name to a folder you can use a file renaming app to add whatever common text to the beginning of the file name so you would get XXXX XXX-IMG 1234.jpg.  Some renamers can remove the IMG bore adding the text at the beginning.
The app that I use and like best is Name Mangler.  Very powerfull.

  • How to undo a batch change of all titles in iPhoto

I accidentally secected all of my photos thinking I was in an album and batch changed all 30,000 photos titles to the same tilte. I had to forse quit due to the unstopable spinning ball. I'm about to cry but hope someone can help me... Mr. Old Toad????  Where are you???  I saw an old post from 2008 but I have iPhotop 11, version 9.2.3 and I'm on OS 10.7.4    So maybe things have changed???
I have a time machine back up from a month or so ago and also a second computer that was last updated about that time and synced with my MacBook Pro (which is where the problem exists)  I have during that time started using photo stream so I could find all the pictures I've resently taken there.
So maybe the library6.iPhoto option works????  How is that done again?

Try typeing Command+Z to undo.  It might work if you haven't done anything since making that global change.
Otherwise, use the same Batch Change and use Title to File Name.  That will get you back to the original file name in the title field that was there after importing.

  • Batch change images in automater not working

trying to batch change picturesfrom pict to jpg in automater but it won't work

It was the Ad Block Plus - I went into the OPTIONS for Ad Block Plus and clicked on the "Disable for this page only" button... then all seemed good. Odd however... when I looked at the "blockable items" list, the only one that showed up was a googlegamepad ad. I unblocked it with no change.
So it is blocking something that it is not listing... I'll follow-up with them and inform them of the problem.

  • IPhoto Time/Date Change problem

There is one particular event in my iPhoto program that registered the wrong date when downloaded.  In trying to change it, the program automatically sets the date about 130 years earlier, regardless of what date I type in.  It only happens with this one file.  I have had to change others and they have worked fine.  Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?  After repeated attempts, I'm back to the 1600s!

How are you trying to change the date? iPhoto has two methods - "Photos > Adjust Date and Time" and "Photos > Batch Change > Set Date and Time".
If you not yet have tried "Batch Change", try if that will help, if you use the option "Modify Original File".
Only "Batch Change" will set all selected photos to the same date and time, with an optional increment. So you to correct the images in groups of photos taken at the same time.

  • IPhoto Batch Change window is not coming up when selected.

I have been using iPhoto for a couple of years now, and I would consider myself to be an intermediate user of the application. I mention this so that everyone knows that I am not crazy, and simply not doing something wrong. I am trying to perform a batch change of a few images, and when I click on batch change the window with the options will not come up. I made sure I had the latest patches, etc.. I am running the latest OS version, and I am at a loss here. I have tried doing a batch change on a single image, and multiple. I have tried images that I have done batch changes on in the past just to make sure it was not the new image files that were the issue. Nothing works. Please advise...

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Log into another account on your Mac and see it you can get it to come up there. Post back with the results. Have you repaired disk permissions lately?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Adjust Date/Batch Change

Since upgrading to iPhoto 11 (9.2), I can no longer adjust the date on my photos.  I had thousands of photos scanned in and I am trying to correct the date from the date scanned to the date taken (which I have on paper).  I could always do this before with no problem.  I could also Batch Change but that is grayed out along with Adust Date and Time.  I've clicked everything I could think of but no success.  Ideas?  Maybe a Windows solution!

Thank you!  Apple and I have a different definition of "selected".  I consider a picture opened large (like when naming faces) to be "selected".  iPhoto does not agree with me!  (iPhoto wins!)

  • Batch change to description does not work

    I have a IMac27" Intel i7 using IPhoto 09
I am trying to batch update the description on multiple photos.
I shift click on a series of photos then go to batch update> change description.
It appears to start with a message and blue line that says " updating photos ", but then after the initial blue line nothing advances and nothing happens to the photos

This will end my contributions to this topic. I have done my best to describe the symptoms I encountered, how I had created this problem, and a solution to it.
I have no special knowledge to how or where metadata is stored with a file, nor the permissions associated with the file and its storage in iPhoto. Unless someone can correct me, I had believed that capture date, camera, format, lens, EXIF, TIFF, CANON, or any other descriptor are part of the metadata and that Canon stored all of this information together with the image in a single file. It did not matter to me whether IPTC data was part of any image file that I imported into iPhoto or not. I am presuming there is metadata attached to image files that can be properly parsed to give what can be loosely described as capture date, time, EXIF, TIFF, CANON, IPTC or any other descriptor that might be present. Because I had used batch change to write data to RAW images in iPhoto in the past, I expected I would be able to do so again. I wasn't trying to trick iPhoto or any readers into confusion about how or where that data may be stored. I simply noted that I had some RAW files that iPhoto could not write to and some that it could.
I hope that I have given an adequate description of how I encountered this problem. If others should encounter a similar effect, they may try the solution I found (namely, export the original file and re-importing it).
If someone wishes to explain why the solutions suggested by Old Toad were incorrect for photos imported from another computer, be my guest.

  • Can I batch change user access to folders & file read-write permissions?

I had a corrupted user account on my iMac and after weeks of trying repairs I followed a forum suggestion to delete my account.
Before doing so I synced all my document folders and files (since 2004) over my LAN to an external hard drive that was attached to my MacMini. I then deleted the iMac account.
Next I backed up my Mac Mini user account with Time Machine. I then created a new iMac User account on the iMac and let the iMac access Time Machine to bring over all my MacMini preferences, settings, desktop, etc. I now have a fully functioning iMac user account.
Here is the problem. I attached the USB external drive directly to my iMAC. I can access some of the folders and files on the external hard drive. Most of them refuse to let me acces the folder or open a file. If I use the GET INFO command I see an "_unknown" user with "read and write". I see an "everyone" with "no access". I can individually change each folder and file to allow my user account access and give myself permission to read and write the files. I cannot delete delete the "_unknown" account.
It will take me days to individually change each folder and file manually like I am now doing.
Is there a way to use Automator to add my user account to the folder or file and give me read and write folder and file permissions?
Or is there any other way to do this in a batch change?
Is there something I need to do to the external files right now that will ensure that I can access them if either computer crashes and I need to replace the MAC? I would hate to have to go through this again. Would having a MAC server instead of an external drive solve this?
I am using MAC OS 10.6.8 with the most recent updates installed (as of today).
    Thanks,
    Sandi Dickenson

Select the icon of the external drive in the sidebar of a Finder window, and open the Info window. In the "Sharing & Permissions" section of the window, click the lock icon and authenticate. Make sure you have read & write access to the volume by changing the settings if necessary. Then, from the action menu (gear icon), select "Apply to enclosed items."
The "_unknown" user and group are assigned automatically to files on a volume with the "Ignore permissions" option set.

  • Batch change color of existing highlights in a PDF (Acrobat X Pro)

I'm trying to find a script or action that will batch change the color of some existing text highlights in a PDF.  The document shows the text being highlighted, but the highlight color is extremely light such that it is visable only with unnecessary effort.  Idealy, I'd like to create a script or action that would identify all of the highlights in the document and change their color to a more standard and visable yellow instead of the washed-out and barely visable yellow I have now.
    Thanks!
Edit:  I'm using Acrobat X Pro in Windows.

You can do this with JavaScript. Note that it could be a problem with the color or the opacity setting, or both. For more information, see:

  • Batch change file names

How can I batch change all my file names?

I am having a similar problem in Lr4. I made the mistake of not specifying a custom name at the beginning of a big import and I now have hundreds of photographs called "untitled_date_picture name_sequence.dng" I have created a custom renaming action that I normally use for all imports except this time I forgot to specify the custom text part at the beginning of the file string.
I cannot see how I can now batch change the "untitled" part only to show correctly. If I try and create a new renaming action by adapting a custom action i.e. by making the following:
Peru_Date_File Name (or Original File Name)_Sequence, the 'file name' part is replaced by "untitiled_111002_P1000245_12" for example. I am guessing that this is becasue the 'file name' is the entire string and not just the P1000245 part only which is the name created by the camera.
Any ideas how I can batch change the 'untitled' bit only or do I have to reimport the photos all over again?
Alternatively, is there a way to do this with the file names in Finder? I'm on a Mac by the way.
    Many thanks
    Chris

  • Photo titles disapear after batch change

After I batch change the title on several photos the title line goes blank - iPhoto does not display any information under the photos that were just changed.  But the rest of the photos in the event still have the correct titles.  Also - the information box (lower left corner of the Iphoto screen) shows the 'title' line but it is blank.  i am using iPhoto '09 v 8.1.2.  what is happening and how do i fix it?

No, i haven't run any cleaner apps. Should I?
No, that is unnecessary on a Mac and can lead to problems.
Try to rebuild your iPhoto library, see: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
I hope somebody else will drop in. I have not used iPhoto 8.1.2 in a long time, so I cannot experiment.
