Batch convert color mode in APE6?

I'm still working with an old version of APE and need to change some .PNG sprite images (like, close to a thousand) from Index Color to RBG. I can do it manually, but it would take a while and if there's a way it can be automated would someone please tell me?

Select all of them in the film strip.
Type 6000 into the Temperature field.
Click Done.
I am trying to find a way to change Nikon Raw images in a batch process to set
the color temperature of all photos in a folder to 6000, but otherwise
retaining the images as Raw files, that is not converting them to jpg or tiff?
Is this possible?

Illustrator CS2 Start up - Convert color mode dialog box

Using Illustrator CS2, on opening, the usual loading prescreen appears, after which a dialog box appears showing the following text
"Convert Color Mode"
"The document contains objects using both CMYK and RGB color modes. Illustrator allow only one color mode per document. Which color mode would you like to use? (RGB and CMYK appear as option boxes)"
This dialog box appears every time I open Illustrator, even though I'm not actually opening a document.
I've tried adjusting the Color Settings (Edit> Color Settings) but this hasn't affected the dialog box appearing.
I've checked all the usual sources of help but can't identify any cures.
I want to be able to change this so the dialog box no longer appears as it tends to "hide" behind all the other applications I have open at the time and can be difficult to get to, meaning opening Illustrator is a 5 minute battle.
Any ideas?

You haven't messed with the startup .ai files have you?
You might try deleting the ai prefs file (see FAQ), though that might be a reach in this case.

Converting Color Modes

I am very new to Bridge and am doing some work for a magazine. All of the images I receive are in RGB .jpgs and I end up having to open each file in Photoshop and convert it to a CMYK .tiff file and save it out. I was told that Bridge could do this conversion for me with batches of photos. I get probably around 250 photos for each issue and this is extremely time consuming. Any ideas on getting started with Brige and scripting?

Automatically convert from RGB to CMYK color mode

I have over 900 barcodes provided in EPS format. When I open them in illustrator, they are coming in as an RGB color space file. I need them gray scale solid black in CMYK color mode. I can batch using actions to convert the artwork using "Edit Colors > Convert to Grayscale". However, the document color mode remains RGB. It appears, even after using "Convert to Grayscale", that the RGB color mode goofs up the placed .ai file in InDesign, treating it as RGB and seeing it as a mix of CMYK rather than the 100% black only it needs to be for proper sharp printing.
The actions pallet doesn't record converting the document color mode. Is there a way to automate that file conversion so they are all saved as CMYK rather than RGB, or am I stuck opening each of the 900+ files manually?

While recording the action, from the popup menu in the Actions Panel choose Insert Menu Item, then from the main menu choose File > Document Color Mode > CMYK color.

Converting from pantone to cmyk color mode in Indesign CS3??

I am working on a business card for a customer, I am using Adobe Indesign CS3.
I use an outside company for the printing job called 4over (4over.com) and they require you use their cmyk pdf print engine so they can do the job properly... Basically to break it down: I am in Indesign CS3, I choose Print, and as the printer I choose their "4over pdf cmyk print engine" so the colors do not convert and the color doesnt change when they use their printers.
4over is telling me my document is in pantone color mode, they can see the pantone color 371C, but not the cmyk values.
How do I change from pantone color mode to cmyk color mode???

Before exporting, in the swatch panel, select your Pantone colour, right click and select swatch options. Change the color type to Process and the color mode to CMYK.
If it's a business card and you showed the client a pantone swatch, know that you won't get the same colour results. There's a very useful Pantone book available that shows swatches side by side with CMYK values.

Convert document color mode to Pantone/Spot

I have a document in which i have 2 layers, each layer contains shapes. one layer is supposed to be Pantone 293, the other layer is Pantone 296. right now, the colors are in RGB. I saved as is, then saved as PDF and the printer whom im sending this to, said the PDF printed out in 4 plates (CMYK) and i need only 2 plates, hence, i need the document to be in a spot color mode. How can i do this? How do i convert the colors i used in the shapes now to spot colors in CS3 version?

First I recommend changing the document to CMYK mode.
Here is the traditional fix: Window: Swatch Libraries: Color Books: Then select a Pantone Solid library. Show the Find field and type in your numbers. Double click the color chip to add it to your Swatch panel.
In the Swatch panel: Add Used Colors. To replace the global colors you are using currently, click on the Pantone swatch first, then the current swatch and select "Merge Swatches."
If you have lots of different shades of colors, you will have to create tints of the two spot colors.
Check your results using Window: Separations Preview to make certain you don't have CMYK being used. If your document is RGB, you will not be able to utilize Separations Preview (that's why I suggested the mode change)
You can also use Edit: Edit Colors: Recolor Artwork to make global color changes. But this is a somewhat complex dialog and takes getting used to. I recommend familiarizing yourself with this tool before using it in live production.

But if a photograph is "Indexed Color" it is likely not very good quality and you might want to try getting the proper source material.

Color replacement issue with converted RGB mode picture

I am new to Photoshop. Opened a bmp file using PS CS5.5, and changed its color mode from Indexed to RGB, 8bits/channel. Tried to use the color replacement tool to replace a darker shade of red (127, 0, 0) to a slightly lighter one (186, 0, 0), but it would not replace it -- not that it popped out any errors, but it just didn't do anything.
The tool settings are:
          spacing: 1%,
          hardness: 100%,
          Mode: color,
          Sampling: background swatch,
          Limits: discontinguous,
          Tolerance: 1%,
          Antialias: off
foreground: 186,0,0
background:127,0,0
so I tested by choosing pure white:
foreground: 255, 255, 255
background: 127,0,0
it did make a difference, however, instead of pure white, it was some kind of dark gray: 38, 38, 38.
so I am just wondering if this is a bug, or if I did something wrong. Thanks!

What is the problem specifiaclly?
If the images are intended for web use I would recommend converting them to sRGB which could be done with Edit > Convert to Profile or with File > Save for Web, but as including a Save step in Actions and applying them as Batch can sometimes cause problems I would go with regular converting.
You could also try Image Processor Pro.

Batch convert Pages files to Doc and stay in the same folder?

I use iWork '09 on Mountain Lion. I recently switched to Microsoft Word and prefer it over Pages (personal preference). However, I have nearly 1000 files on my computer that are in Pages format. I have extensively searched this issue in the Apple Support Communities and it appears that there are scripts that DO EXIST that batch convert Pages files into Word files. However, it appears that many of these scripts were built for older versions of iWork and therefore I run into various errors. For example, I used the script available at http://pagesfaq.blogspot.com/2008/01/export-folder-to-word-rtf-pdf-txt-or.html and click run but nothing actually happens (the script runs for less than a second, then I can click run again). I was able to use one script successfully (pasted below), but the only reason I can't use it is because it saves ALL my converted documents in one folder on my desktop and I would like a script that can save them in the original file were the Pages document is located.
So, is there an iWork '09 compatible script that can convert my Pages documents to Word documents and save them in the same folder as the original? Oh, and for an added bonus, it'd be cool if the script also deleted my Pages version after it was done with the conversion

Hi to group!
(cross posted this a couple of weeks ago to Keynote forum, no responses) Perhaps the query really belongs here...)
(I) Have a whole bunch of PPTs to convert to Keynote, now and more as time goes on.
Looked into applescript to try to automate this a bit (could open PPT file but did not see any way to 'Save' file from a script).
Also looked into bash scripting/automator too -- way too many options to choose from. Help!
Anybody done anything similar to this already?

I am not an applescript expert.
These steps were quickly composed using my basic knowledge in Applescript
What I was planning was to create a script droplet that when a ppt file is dropped upon it, it extracts the name of the file and sets it to a variable to name the keynote file later. You might have to modify it a bit to batch process multiple files.
Try going through batch processing scripts made for quark or Adobe photoshop ( Not sure if these exist on internet) to see how they have implemented the steps in applescript.
To GUI Script Keynote, do these steps...

Convert color images to black&white bitmaps

Hi,
I have black&white scans of public domain books (image format). I use an OCR software to convert them to indexable PDFs (image+text format). However, the OCRed PDFs are insanely big: a 27 MB scanned PDF leads to an indexable PDF of 728 MB! And unfortunately, my OCR software doesn't have output settings, so I have to find a way to compress the files using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
Using Advanced Options > Optimization does reduce the file size, but not significantly. The problem seems to be that my OCR software converts the black&white scans to color images, and encodes them as such inside the PDF. So I need a way to set the image modes back to black&white. I tried using the Advanced Options > Preflight dialog, and selecting "Convert to black&white". However, the resulting PDFs stay about the same size! It seems that "Convert to black&white" converts the images to grayscale, instead of to bitmap.
Any help would be appreciated!

I mentioned "bitmaps", because when I open the original PDF and right-click a random page and select "Modify image..." and open the image in Photoshop, the mode is set to "Bitmap mode": meaning 1-bit mode, containing either black or white pixels. However, when I do "Modify image..." for the OCRed PDF, the mode is set to "RGB Color Mode". I think this explains, in part, the huge size of the OCRed PDF.
Maybe this table will make it more clear:
Original PDF (Bitmap Mode, 132 dpi)
Size: 27 MB
OCRed PDF (RGB Color Mode, 300 dpi)
Size: 728 MB
Now, from the table above, it's clear that I have to reduce the image resolution. So, using the Acrobat's PDF optimizer, I tried the following settings:
Optimized OCRed PDF: Try 1 (Downsample to 132 dpi, JPEG compression)
Size: 733 MB
Optimized OCRed PDF: Try 2 (Downsample to 132 dpi, ZIP compression)
Size: 449 MB
But 449 MB is still huge for a single book. And I don't want to reduce the resolution under 132 dpi, because I will loose quality. Clearly, if the original document is just 27 MB, I should be able to squeeze the OCRed document too. But I don't know how.

Why does my Bridge read RGB or B&W for the Color Mode on a file, when in Illustrator I have set it to CMYK?

I'm kind of stumped and this has been a question of mine for some time. I did some further digging on it, and did find that what it's reading is the Photoshop Color Mode XMP data, which is odd since the files were never in Photoshop, and were created in Illustrator. Is there a way to remove this info? How do I fix it?

Probably can be chalked up to one of Illustrators mysterious color issues.
Therefor it might be best to drop this question in the AI forum itself. I know to less of AI but just tried a bit with a new document, you can't convert to a new color profile like used to in PS, only select CMYK or RGB and assign a profile but that is not the same as converting.
Also in color settings it says by default to preserve numbers in stead of the profile itself.
And yes, mysteries are common at Adobe, although being one company one doubts often if they are even aware of the existence of Bridge and even other applications in the suites. Not even all file types of Adobe seem to be fully supported in Bridge…

Color mode for exporting to EPS to be printed as CMYK or spot

I have a couple illustrations I need to export to use in a Quark file. Some of my Quark pages will be printed in CMYK, and others in spot colors. How do I create and/or export the illustrations for both color modes?

I'm still on Illustrator 12. On my copy it's called Process Color.
I have no idea why there's a button to convert to a process colour and another to convert to CMYK, since they're the same thing and both buttons produce the same result. Maybe they're rying both out while the program's still in Beta. Illustrator has been in Beta for about eight years.
