Batch Convert InDesign Files to PDF: Acrobat 9 Pro Opens CS3

A question came up in the InDesign forum about batch converting InDesign files. I've never really needed to do it but I was aware of the batch convert command. The OP reported errors so I tried it myself and while it worked, for some reason Acrobat 9 Pro is opening InDesign CS3 even though I have CS4 and CS5 installed.
I can't seem to find any way to change the default for INDD files. I tried launching ID CS5 first, but Acrobat still launched ID CS3. If I double click an INDD file in Windows Explorer, it opens in CS5 so the operating system has the default correct.
Any ideas?

When I convert InDesign file to pdf, the background of my image is no longer transparent

I am working with InDesign CS3, and when I place a .gif file onto the document, the background of the image is transparent, which is what I want. However, when I convert the InDesign file to a pdf, that same image shows up in a white box. Why is this happening? Is there a setting that I am missing when I convert it? Thanks in advance

I am converting it via export, and actually it is an ai file, my apologies.
The white box does not appear in InDesign print preview.
I corrected the link, but still no luck.
I am opening the document in Adobe reader, and overprint preview is turned on.

Converting InDesign File to PDF for Web

Hi,
I designed an ad that is to be used for web view only in InDesign (CS3 on PC). The file restrictions I have been given require that it is 72dpi and a PDF file. When I convert to PDF(smallest file size,no spot colors, compressed), I end up with a file that is 4MB. I'm assuming a file that is 72dpi and 6.25"x9.25" shouldn't be that big. When I look at the "Audit Space Usage" window, 90% is under "Contents Stream" (I don't know what this means).
I'm new to creating files for web viewing so I'm not sure how to go about accomplishing this without losing image quality. I've tried "reducing file size" and the "PDF Optimizer" in Acrobat. I always get the message "The PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled." when I attempt this.
What do I need to do to create a PDF file with these specifications that will retain some of the image quality (won't look pixelated and be read-able)? I don't mind recreating the ad in Illustrator, or Photoshop if I can guarantee that I can end up where I need to be.
I would really appreciate any tips on this!!

You mention pictures. If the file is mostly pictures, then the first step is to reduce the picture content, possibly by using 256 colors rather than millions and such. Check the properties of the settings file for the conversion (I don't have current versions available to check right now - you also did not mention your Acrobat version). It is probably best to down sample in a graphics program such as Illustrator or Photoshop (depending on the image being vector or bitmap) and then include them in the original. It is always a good idea to work on a copy and leave the original in place. Trying to do the reduction in Acrobat is not the best approach.

Acrobat XI Pro successfully installed, but it failed in converting word files into PDF, why?

I just installed Adobe XI Pro through the download assistant, it looks the installation went well, but when I tried to convert word files into PDF (tried many times), it failed. Anyone has the same problems, any solutions?

Please reply with more information - what your operating system is, do you have Office installed, and what exactly is happening. Is there an error message, does the application crash, and from where are you starting the conversion (using Word and PDFMaker, using Acrobat's Create button, or batch processing).

Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5) Corrupts Graphics in PDF Documents - shows up as black image

Whenever I use Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5), sometimes some of the images (not all) get corrupted and show up as a black image in the new document.
Actually, the new reduced document looks okay when viewed in Acrobat, but the problem shows up when viewed in the Preview application on the Mac.
I'm using Acrobat 9.5.5 with Mac OS 10.8.6
I've tried re-importing the graphic into a new graphic box, which didn't work. Thinking there may be some type of corruption with the actual graphic file, I then tried viewing the graphic, then taking a screenshot of it to create a completely new file, and then re-importing the new graphic file into the original document (created in Adobe In Design 5.0.4). I then export the new document as a pdf, and brought it into Acrobat Pro to do the Reduce File Size. Same thing happens - black box appears where the graphic was.
I then tried using the Reduce File Size within the Save As function of the Preview application on the Mac - while the graphic remains intact, many of the other graphics in the document are "reduced" too much, to the point where the image quality is seriously degraded, and therefore not usable.
Any other ideas?

Not able to convert word file to PDF using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard

Hi,
I am not able to convert word file to PDF using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard. When I try to convert, it starts the process and in between I am getting this prompt, as shown in figure below and the conversion process stops. The PDF is not created.
Note: The filename 'Acr85.doc' in the above prompt keeps changing and is random.
I tried clicking Yes, No and Cancel on the above prompt, but the conversion process just stops and PDF is not getting generated.
I am able to create PDFs from web pages. No issues with that. Not working only with Word.
Can someone help me with this.

In MSWord please changes the settings as "Adobe PDF" menu => "Change Conversion Settings" goto Tab Bookmark and clicks the option Convert Word Bookmarks. Now you convert the Doc to PDF you can achieve the Bookmark.

I have important information: Acrobat is not licensed for use server side, so you must not use it to build that solution, even if it is technically possible.
Adobe's server side PDF creation product is LiveCycle PDF Generator https://www.adobe.com/sea/products/server/pdfgenerator/
This comes in three editions. The "PostScript" edition is little more than a server-side version of Distiller, and will not convert TXT. However, the other two editions can convert a wide variety of formats.

How to convert .msg files to PDF?

I have a folder full of hundreds of .msg files, many with attachments. I need to convert them to PDF. I have a Mac with Adobe Pro X, and a PC on which I just installed a trial version of Adobe Pro XI. I have tried to do this on my own, on both machines, with little success.
I have tried the "drag and drop" method to try to "combine files into one PDF." Unfortunately, .msg files do not appear to be a supported file type in either Pro X or Pro XI.
On my PC, I am able to use the print to PDF function to individually turn each .msg file into a PDF. However, there are two challenges I'm hoping to solve:
1) The print to PDF function writes any attachments as separate PDFs, instead of automatically merging them all into one file. It takes time to have to enter a new file name for each attachment and save, and also requires me to name them very specifically, so I know which attachments go with which message file(s).
2) Even if I could solve the attachment issue, I expect that it will take a LOT of time to convert each of these files, one by one. Is there a workaround or way to batch convert .msg files? Or is there some kind of add-on or plug-in that will allow me to use the combine files into one PDF function with .msg files?

One approach would be to drag and drop your folder of.msg files into Outlook. Next, setup an automatic archive under the Adobe PDF ribbon by selecting the Setup Automatic Archival icon. Under the Automatic Archival tab you can select your folder of email messages in Outlook. Then, under the Settings tab make sure you have "Include all attachments in the Adobe PDF" selected as well.

Bonjour, je viens de passer d'Ind CS 4 à Creative cloud 2014 et je rencontre un pb au niveau de la conversion de fichiers Indesign en fichiers Acrobat .pdf et .pdf prépresse. J'ai reproduit les paramétrages que j'utilisais précédemment et pourtant certaines couleurs (CMJN créées dans mon doc Ind) ne s'affichent pas dans le fichier converti en .pdf. L'impression papier elle est correcte. Toute aide est appréciée !

Le pb viendrait plutôt du PC (nouvel équipement TOSHIBA) et de l’affichage du document .pdf. En effet, sur un autre PC, il s’ouvre correctement avec toutes les couleurs.

Batch convert Pages files to Doc and stay in the same folder?

I use iWork '09 on Mountain Lion. I recently switched to Microsoft Word and prefer it over Pages (personal preference). However, I have nearly 1000 files on my computer that are in Pages format. I have extensively searched this issue in the Apple Support Communities and it appears that there are scripts that DO EXIST that batch convert Pages files into Word files. However, it appears that many of these scripts were built for older versions of iWork and therefore I run into various errors. For example, I used the script available at http://pagesfaq.blogspot.com/2008/01/export-folder-to-word-rtf-pdf-txt-or.html and click run but nothing actually happens (the script runs for less than a second, then I can click run again). I was able to use one script successfully (pasted below), but the only reason I can't use it is because it saves ALL my converted documents in one folder on my desktop and I would like a script that can save them in the original file were the Pages document is located.
So, is there an iWork '09 compatible script that can convert my Pages documents to Word documents and save them in the same folder as the original? Oh, and for an added bonus, it'd be cool if the script also deleted my Pages version after it was done with the conversion

Batch convert Pages files to doc and pdf.

Error: EXOpenExport() while converting xlsb file to PDF

I am getting this error while converting .XLSB file to PDF using IBR :Step PDFExport forced conversion failure by conversion engine because of error: EXOpenExport() failed: no filter available for this file type (0x0004). Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue.

The error message I get is... "an unexpected error occured. PDFMaker was unable to process the request".
When I then try to convert again, the system opens the ppt, but then does not do anything, and the error message does not show, for all presentations I try to convert.
I have also tried using the ribbon, but the button does not do anything once I have clicked.
I can print to PDF, but this provides an output which is not suitable, because it shows as if it each slide was printed on to paper and then put in PDF.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat to make sure nothing was corrupt.
