Batch export of multiple clips from one video in Premiere CS4

Hello,
I'm really in a bind and hope you guys can help me out. I have about 30 hours of video in about 30 mpg files..1 hour in each video. I need to splice out small clips from each video..anywhere from 10 to 20 clips in each and send them to Media Encoder to store as video files I can then re-use. In CS3 I can do this manually one clip at a time ..set In point, Out point and then export. This however takes a very very long time....set the ins/outs, then export, then wait, then repeat..very tedious
In CS4 can i set multiple ins/outs for the entire video and then have premiere go to work and do a batch export? Or is there another way of doing this? I have about a week left to get this done and at a total of about 450 clips to export each 2-5 mins for encoding this will take forever...plase help!
Stan

It wont do exazctly what you want but.... But the batch encoding should save you some time since you can continue to work while it encodes/exports.
Do you need to make more than one output type? Like DV, WMV, FLV... for each one? If so, I suggest this workflow:
1. Open source file 1 in Source monitor set in and out, ctrl drag subclip to a folder in the project panel.
2. Repeat step 1 for any other subclips needed from source clip 1
3. When done with first source clip go into bin where you put your subclips click on them one at a time and do export/media to your lowest compressed need (like DV AVI for example); it will be added to AME queue
4. Repeat step 3 for all subclips, then click start queue.
5. While AME is exporting all the subclips for your first source clip, repeat steps 1-3 on source clip 2...
When you are all done; if you need to make multiple output types for each file; Do (IN AME) File>New>Watch Folder
Create a Watch folder for each output type you want. Then simply copy all the exported clips you want inot each of these folders and AME will process them all for you in batch.
It doesnt do exactly what you wished for; but should save you a few buckets of time.

  • Trying to Batch-Export Several .dv clips from one large .dv file

I'm having trouble cutting up and exporting discrete clips from larger .dv files; either it doesn't cut in the right place (weird parts of the file get glommed together), loses its audio, compresses and loses information, etc.
I'd really like to be able to cut up each file into specific clips and export them all at once (the files are roughly 13GB each), but so far everything I've tried has led to disaster, and all of the exported files are converted to .mov

    S00thsayer,
The bottom line here is that if your .dv files are in FCP they are no longer . dv files.
I know that may sound heretical so some, but stay with me for a second.
Final cut will simply not edit .dv in its native state any more than it will AVCHD. What happens instead is that FCP IGNORES the audio portion of the DV stream and rewrites its own audio (32 bit float mind you, which is not the most efficient use of disc space)
Now you have a DV NTSC sequence but as far as FCP is concerned that means a .MOV shell containing video + audio. THAT is now the native state. The video has not been re-compressed yet but is still no longer experiencing life as a .dv file.
That's the first reality that you need to accept.
Next, if you do decide to export from FCP to the .dv codec I'm pretty certain that at THAT point you'll be re-compressing your video footage. So, Ironically, in an attempt to avoid generational loss by insisting that the new clips be ".dv" you actually could be making things worse.
The ONLY application in the universe that I'm aware of that will do what you're trying to do is iMovieHD 06. That application had destructive style file functionality that let you trash media that had been trimmed while still maintaining the original file directory.
Personally, I think it's incumbent upon you to inform "your boss" that his abstract idea about maintaining this media within FCP as .dv is simply fantasy.
Or continue to tell the emperor that his new clothes are beautiful !
    good luck,

  • Why is there no Batch Export of multiple clips from Premiere CS6?

This is a no brainer.  Every other NLE has had this for at least a decade, yet PP CS6 makes you INDIVIDUALY export clips rather than sending them as one batch. What a time waste for someone looking to move to CS6 from FCP and finding it's slower.

    Not quite enough info here...
Great with the specs on the system, but I need ram and HDD info, along with a few details about your workflow.
First, what are you ingesting?  I need the physical media and file type it starts with.
Second, are you transcoding?  I need to know what you transcode to (file type and the specs for frames etc).
Third, where are you sending them?  I need to know what Disk, and any other info on where the files are going.
Fourth, how long are the clips?  The longer they are, the longer it takes to ingest, and the more active the scene the longer it will take to scrub through.  Some systems have a file-size issue with the volume you output to.  I suggest using an external disk formatted as EXT4 (exfat 4), it has a 16terabyte file-size limit.  Other file systems will split the files in an odd fashion, and often do so destructively with larger files.  Less than 6gb isn't a problem, but more... ...the system may flag it.
Finally, what are you using to ingest the files? USB, thunderbolt, firewire... ...They all have their good and bad.  USB has version 1 2 and 3.  Firewire has 400 and 800.  Thunderbolt has only 1 speed ("wtf was that?").  Usb can have stability problems and disconnects, and usb3 isn't exactly perfectly compatible with mac.  If you can, get a thunderbolt usb3 hub, they limit the speed in, but maintain the stability.  You'll get 1-2\3 usb3 speeds with stability of thunderbolt at the computer end.
One last note, make sure your permissions are set and the application support folders are okay... ...I've had apps crash when they tried to access this in the /user/library folder, mainly do to a mavericks update that was supposed to lock down security.  Make sure these folders allow the app to access them.  You may need to find some tools to "Watch" the app, or find a crash log after and read where it failed.
To really get into things, I need all this.
You might try to do a permissions repair.  Some updates don't reset them properly or the magnetics on a drive go a little haywire when reading the permissions.  You need to ensure your system is clean.  Do a drive repair just in case.

  • Exporting multiple clips from one sequence as separate files.

    Hello fellow editors!
I have about 100+ video files that I want to cut into shorter clips, edit a bit and then export in a Final Cut friendly format (currently they are AVCHD mts files) to send it to my friend, who is putting the whole movie together.
I dont want to use Final Cut for this ( I cannot, I have a windows machine) and I was hoping to work with premier CC and media encoder CC.
There is a way of putting all clips in one sequence and then nesting each one, then you can send them to Encoder CC and it will render them as separate files - thats is just not very productive, nesting clips one by one and it takes forever for Encoder to import sequences.
I was wondering if there is a better workflow? I heard that Final Cut has shortcuts to do this very easily, you just click on all those clips in sequence and "batch export" them, which puts them in some place as separate, already cut files.?
Anything? I love premier, let my feelings be justified!)

    Kevin Monahan ...
Lucid George is right ... select one trimmed clip, File->Export->Media, you can choose whether in-out or entire clip.
Select MORE than one clip, you get a completely different export box ...
These two selections were "exported" from that bin created by dragging the trimmed clips from the timeline to a new bin ... I don't know what else one is supposed to do. You can't even select multiples clips and batch sub-clipping, which would at least cut the steps down.

  • Export multiple clips from one timeline

    Hi,
Is there a way to export multiple clips into separate files from the timeline. So, basically i have a time line with many clips which i need to export to individual files, not one long video. In FCP 7 I would drag all these clips into a new folder and then batch export. But in FCPX?
    Thanks!

Of course i's  not "half baked". Just because it lacks a feature that you want doesn't make it so.
There isn't  as NLE out there that doesn't attract  complaints from some users about its functionality in some area or other.
Fortunately, the fully functional  trial version gives us a good chance to find out first-hand whether the design meets our requirements.

  • How do you select/move multiple clips from one timeline to another?

Has to do with combining multiple edls from Avid - required due to an issue with duplicate reel names in the original Arri footage. I can move them one at a time, but it is very tedious. Is there a way to select multiple clips and move them together?

Actually discovered the magic of the shift key.
IRCP Beauty doesn't recognize multiple timelines in a session, so first you have to at least get the footage on multiple tracks in the same timeline. Shift + drag on the track will allow you to move it to another timeline. Also Shift + drag on the center of the first clip in a sequence will slide the entire sequence down - which is how timelines end up getthing offset all the time. Also, if there are multiple tracks in a timeline and some are locked and some aren't, Shift + drag on a clip will slide ALL UNLOCKED tracks in the timeline.
Finally, Shift + click on either in or out marker moves both points up or down the timeline.

  • Newbie trying to combine multiple clips on one video file for iDVD

I just bought my Mac and and starting to make home videos. I have 20 .mov clips I imported from my HDD camcorder into the events section on Imovie 08. I could not find a way to combine these clips on Imovie 08 into one large clip. I imported these movies to iDVD in attempt a uninterupted movie. I have not found a way to do this. All I can do is add the the clips into a chapter screen, but then each clip stops after it end. How can I combine these .mob clips in either iMovie, iDVD, or any other software program that came with a normal Mac book?

I am not familiar with iMovie 08, but I am with the HD6 version. This is the one that you will be able to download using the link provided by SDMacuser.
You can use iMovie HD6 to combine your clips into a movie that will either play straight through or stop at the end of each clip if you wish. First, import your clips into iMovie to create your new movie project. Add audio, titles, effects, etc., and, if desired, chapter markers. Chapter markers will give you the option to advance to different parts of your movie, like a scene selection menu.
From iMovie Help, *Setting Chapter Markers*:
    To set chapter markers:
Move the playhead to the point at which you want to start a new chapter.
IMPORTANT: You cannot add a chapter marker to the very beginning or end of your movie. (iMovie HD automatically adds an initial chapter marker at the beginning of a movie.) It's also a good idea not to add a chapter marker within a transition, or within one second of a transition or other chapter marker. If you do so, other applications may have trouble recognizing the chapter markers.
Click the Chapters button, and then click Add Marker.
Tip: To quickly add a chapter marker, you can also choose Markers > Add Chapter Marker.
Type a chapter title next to the thumbnail that appears in the Chapters pane.
    Good luck.

  • Capturing multiple clips from one mini dv tape

i have been having trouble using the 'capture project' option. i can capture individual clips, but would like to set them all before hand and have the computer go through and capture them all at once. this seems to be possible, but when i click 'capture project' it either only captures the first clip or reads 'error'. any suggestions?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
You cannot capture project with this method in FCE, it's not suported.
See page 179 and 181 of user's manual.
You can capture now all your tape (or portion with the esc key), and recapture a project (from a previously captured but now erased media). See page 189.
Each clip that is logged in capture window is captured right after you set the in and out points. One clip at a time.
Final Cut Pro can meets your needs.
If your problem is to recapture a project, it seems that there is a time code break on your DV tape, thus the error.
Note that HDV cannot be recaptured.

  • Make multiple clips from one music track

How do I trim my music track so that I can edit out parts in the middle--not just the ends?

    do the following:
    1. create the two different instrument tracks, let's say instr1 and instr2
    2. got to the environment window and search these two tracks and drag them a bit aside
    3. choose New/Transformer
    4. drag the Transformer object in the neighberhood of the two instrument tracks
    5. cable the output of instr1 to the input of the transformer object
    6. cable the output of the transformer object to the input of the instr2 track
    7. go back to the arrange window
    8. select instr1 and enjoy!

  • Exporting to multiple clips to compressor3.5  from final Cut 7

Hi have a timeline split into 20 or so individual clips that i want to export as DV fies using compressor.
I set the in and out points for each clip in the sequence timeline, then use the "send to compressor" menu option. Each time it sends the clip to a new batch file in compressor. So i then end up with 20 or so batch files that i have to setup individually and submit individually. This is a pain and also leads to confusion as the output file naming goes haywire unless i really concentrate.
Does anyone know how to send several clips from one timeline in Final Cut 7 to one batch in Compressor 3.5.
    Thanks

just make 20 timelines and batch export after selecting all the timelines..

  • Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are still frames captured within a video event.

Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event.  I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events.  I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills.  ABout 50 of them,  When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them.  So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it.  (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff).  Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else.  Do you know a way around this?

  • How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

How can I export a still picture from a video clip?

I'm able to export stills from iMovie without anything extra. I create a new project - call it Exports say. Now, in your event clip with the frames you want as stills, select a single frame and drag it into your project. Repeat for other stills you want to export. Then choose Share -> Export Using QuickTime.
In the pop-up, choose Movie to Image Sequence. Click Options and choose the image format you want. Playing with the number of stills lets you pick how many stills you want from each second of video. Hit OK and the stills will be generated in the directory you choose.
I've only done this with HD video. Don't know how well it works with lower res, interlaced vid.

  • Can you cut multiple video parts from one video?

    Hi.
So like, I have 40 minutes long video. I want to cut this video in 20 parts. Do I have to cut every part separately and save project and than export .avi and do this 20 times for 20 parts, or am I able to mark 20 small video parts from one video in 1 project?
You know, I want twenty 2 minute long videos from 40 minutes video, but I want to find a way how to do it in 1 project, so I can put that project over Media Encoder and go to coffee meanwhile encoder is working.
    Thanks,

Hello sir. Thank you for fast response. I will check Encore on youtube if you think it is the way this should be done.
Hm, I found some topics which say you can't even cut in Encore, that you need Premiere.
Hm, can you provide some tutorial for Encore to show me how to do this sir?
    Thank you

  • How do you link two audio clips to one video clip?

    Hi guys,
I want to think multiple audio clips to one video clip and aint know how to do it! I found this page on Adobe knowledge base:-
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b 1038518aef7-7f40.html
It says you can do it but I don't think it explains how? Can anyone provide me with the simple steps required to link two audio clips to one video clip? Many thanks.

Do you mean manual syncing? I've been reading this thread about workaround, which aren't working for me: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/21236
But the question they are asking is the same one I am asking. Isn't this a typical situation, having multiple mics for one camera? For example, if someone filmed a concert with one camera but used both the camera audio, and ambient mic, and a mix from the board, then that would be 3 audio tracks with 1 video track. I'm in a similar situation, and I'm finding it hard to believe that FCPX isn't equipped to edit this way. There must be some way to get one video clip (with reference audio) to sync with four audio tracks.

  • Change duration of multiple clips "as one" overall clip?

    Here's my situation:
I have a song at 127 BPM. I have a music video (muted sound) at 125 BPM.
I've spent a long time slicing up clips from the video into different channels and muliple clips to form one timeline (but with many clips and channels lined up).
I now want to change the overall duration of the video clip to match the BPM of the song (which I should have done in the first place), but the video is, as previously stated, sliced up in mulitple clips in multiple channels. How can I change the duration of all clips at one time, where the end and start of the clips still line up to eachother?
This would've been incredibly easy if there were a un-nesting feature. Where I can nest multiple clips, change the duration, and un-nest the clips to slices clips with a changed overall duration. (Which is not possible. Yes, I can drag the clips out of the nested clip, but the clips will still have the original duration).
TL;DR: How can I change duration of multiple clips "as one" overall clip?

Never mind. I've found a alternate solution. I used a time stretch calculator at http://mp3.deepsound.net/eng/samples_calculs.php and time stretched all the clips to match the BPM of the song. Now I only need to snap all the clips, which can be done one by one, but I found this trick to snap all the clips at once: http://vimeo.com/27428526.
I'll just let this thread stay open so other with the same problem can find this
