Batch export off by one frame
I'm trying to export several clips from a bin in Premiere CC 2014 (rendering R3D to DPX). I highlight them all, add to the queue. Then in Media Encoder, I select each one and change the source range to "Clip In/Out". Unfortunately, this creates renders offset by one frame. So it's missing one frame at the head, and has an extra frame at the tail.
Hi, I just tested this and can't reproduce the problem. I tried selecting lip in/out in both premiere cc (2014, 8.0.0 169 build) and ame and both were frame accurate. Can you double check your frame rate settings please? Also what OS are you running and version of premiere?

DVD slideshow transitions off by one frame
iDVD 08. Multiple slideshows of about 20 pictures each. Variety of transitions. Sometimes use "fit to audio" and sometimes use a fixed slide duration. I don't know how many "frames" it takes to complete a transition, but let's say it's 10. For each of the slideshows, the dvd transitions to the proper image, but then goes 1 frame beyond the picture before displaying for the specified time. So what we end up seeing is not the best quality picture, but rather one frame into the following transition, which of course is not the best quality, and with transitions like cube, reveal, and mosaic looks particularly off.

23.976 Quicktime exports one frame short
Hi,
I'm having a recurring problem with 23.976 fps exports missing the last frame of any comp. I'm working with prores 4444 files shot at 23.976, comp settings also 23.976, footage interpreted correctly at 23.976. When I export to quicktime in any codec at 23.976 the exported clip is one frame short.
This isn't a framerate issue as far as I can tell as all previous frames match the original footage, also an image sequence export will produce the correct number of frames. It's just not exporting the last frame. Is anyone else having this problem?
Obviously the workaround is to extend every comp by a frame before render, or always render an image sequence, but as I'm working on a show with an extremely high number of shots to turnaround and all have to be imported back into the edit at Avid DNX36 offline codec quality, this seems like a much more time consuming (and storage space consuming!) solution to what is an obvious glitch.
Can anyone help? A solution will save me weeks of time over the coming six months!
Many thanks in advance for any help.It's probably just a counting error. AE, like many applications that work with video, begins with frame ZERO, not frame one.
Count the number of digits in the following list: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Even though the highest value is nine, the number of digits is ten. Thus, in AE, close to one second of 23.976 fps video is contained in frames 00-23, and not 00-24... which would be twenty-FIVE frames. -
Timecode filter off one frame for speed reversed clips
Is this a known issue in Premiere Pro CC? I'm using version 7.2.1 (4).
The video clip in V1 has a reverse speed change applied, and the timecode filter is off by one frame. Or maybe the source overlay is off by one frame? Which should I trust?Another clip in the sequence has a timecode filter error much greater. See attached screenshot. the timeline clip is sped up 694.28%, the source timecode overlay reports 09:25:35:14 and the timecode filter says 09:25:35:07.

Why does our Final Cut Pro Batch Exports incorrectly name sequence files?
Why does our Final Cut Pro 7.0.1 Batch Exports incorrectly name sequence files?
For example I can Batch Export 10 sequences one of which is called:
"899-006TL013 It's Not Your Fault 800-509-2875"
Then the output for some of the files are along the lines of:
"899-006TL013 It's No#61386E.mov"
I have seen this happen with 1-6 files or not at all... is it just dumb luck?
What is going on here and is there any way to avoid or remedy this issue?
We first thought having the render destination window open caused it but that was not the source.
Any ideas?I've run into the same problem with FCP 7.0.2 when exporting from the sequence using File --> Export --> QuickTime Movie. I exported a file today called "BSP - 01 - How You Can Be Sure You Are A Christian" and it came out as this "BSP - 01 - How You Can#1630". This is getting to be annoying. I also need to name these files the length they are. I'm hoping someone may see this and have a suggestion (besides shortening the file name). It seems like I've also seen this on shorter file names, but at the moment I can't prove it.

HELP! Why does FCP Crash when Batch Exporting Freeze Frames?
I have been Batch Exporting a lot of freeze frames recently but just last week FCP just started to crash when I tried exporting. It will let me export one single freeze frame but no batches. Also, when I open FCP now some of the freeze frames I have made looks what appear to be like green digital hits on them. I thought it was a space issue but I have plenty of room and I've taken out my FCP Preferences and nothing seems like it's working. I have final cut version 5.1.4 and the Error Message Reads: "The Batch Export failed for some items. Please review the status column to identify which items had errors." When I check the status it says "File Error: Unknown Folder" which I don't understand at all.
Any ideas?

Power MacWell it seems like it might be an OS or hardware problem rather than a FCP problem, however...
Have you installed Diskwarrior on your startup drive? If not, do it, and try launching it from your startup drive and then try running it on all other drives.
Describe your hardware configuration (you should really post all your system specs in your profile here). Can you change the batch export destination to another drive? Describe what your source material is, your sequence settings and the export settings. You might try changing your export settings.
This is not normal behavior and I'm sure we can solve this.

Batch export of multiple clips from one video in Premiere CS4

I'm really in a bind and hope you guys can help me out. I have about 30 hours of video in about 30 mpg files..1 hour in each video. I need to splice out small clips from each video..anywhere from 10 to 20 clips in each and send them to Media Encoder to store as video files I can then re-use. In CS3 I can do this manually one clip at a time ..set In point, Out point and then export. This however takes a very very long time....set the ins/outs, then export, then wait, then repeat..very tedious
In CS4 can i set multiple ins/outs for the entire video and then have premiere go to work and do a batch export? Or is there another way of doing this? I have about a week left to get this done and at a total of about 450 clips to export each 2-5 mins for encoding this will take forever...plase help!
StanIt wont do exazctly what you want but.... But the batch encoding should save you some time since you can continue to work while it encodes/exports.
Do you need to make more than one output type? Like DV, WMV, FLV... for each one? If so, I suggest this workflow:
1. Open source file 1 in Source monitor set in and out, ctrl drag subclip to a folder in the project panel.
2. Repeat step 1 for any other subclips needed from source clip 1
3. When done with first source clip go into bin where you put your subclips click on them one at a time and do export/media to your lowest compressed need (like DV AVI for example); it will be added to AME queue
4. Repeat step 3 for all subclips, then click start queue.
5. While AME is exporting all the subclips for your first source clip, repeat steps 1-3 on source clip 2...
When you are all done; if you need to make multiple output types for each file; Do (IN AME) File>New>Watch Folder
Create a Watch folder for each output type you want. Then simply copy all the exported clips you want inot each of these folders and AME will process them all for you in batch.
It doesnt do exactly what you wished for; but should save you a few buckets of time.

Color's timeline is one frame off on occasion
Hi there, odd problem I'm having.
Show shot on RED, cut in Premiere (about 4 mins long), then baked out to ProRes 4444 at its native framerate (23.98), re-cut, then sent to FCP. Now, there were some weird errors there, but I worked around them okay. Made sure the timebase and framerate are 23.98, sent to Color, all seems well, except on occasion the cut is one frame off. The project is also at 23.98 in Color.
Here's the kicker. If I unlock my track and use the Roll tool to fix the annoying error, then sometimes the frame will double up (it will seem like there's the same frame at the end of one clip and at the beginning of the next), or the last frame of the previous clip will become the first frame of the next, creating a different problem and solving nothing.
Ideas on what might be going on?
I'm monitoring through a Matrox MXO2 mini, out from my expresscard slot, if it makes any difference.I am having the same problem right now with a feature film that is a single baked quicktime (apple pro res HQ 1920 x 1080 23.976 fps) for each scene.
I take the scene and open it in Final Cut Pro, I make the sequence settings automatically fit to the clip.
I cut it up into the seperate shots in the Final Cut timeline. I send to Apple Color.
Then in Apple Color, I see the the edit points are sometimes one frame off (not all of them are off). In all these instances the edit point is rolled one frame forward.
If I color correct and then send back to Final Cut Pro, the new color corrected timeline also is one frame off based on the new footage and xml that came out of Color.

If I look at the format of the original one piece quicktime in Final Cut Pro it says 23.98, and when I open the specific compression setting it states the exact 23.976
In Color it states 23.98 in project settings and if I look at the format of what it is rendering out to Final Cut Pro, it says 24fps. If I open footage rendered in Color (with project settings of 23.98) in quicktime it shows it to be a 24fps clip.
But it is already wrong in the locked timeline of Color. That just after sending from Final Cut Pro. Before any grading, rendering, or sending
That would mean that something is wrong with the xml file Final Cut Pro is sending out. -
Why is there a big red X on one frame of my FCPX export?
I exported this twice and both times on ONE frame there is a giant red X over the frame. This wasn't there in FCPX, just in the export. Why? How do we fix this?

but an X like that is usually the result of applying an effect, that has not been fully licensed, to the clip, so the effect applies a watermark X.

I haven't checked the code but from the symptom you describe it could be possible that some fields used to calculate valeus are not getting cleared between calculations. This could result in some values from order the first order one being used in the calculation for values in the second order.

Using BATCH-EXPORT on subclips vs MM to create independent media files
I've been capturing full HDV tapes with the DV Start/Stop Detection turned on and everything has worked just fine - until now. I'm now encountering a problem w FCP "Searching for Media" on roughly 25% of my clips DURING capture, and in the process, losing about 5 seconds at the start of the clip. I've been having lots of problems w my G5 over the last couple months and it's been acting quite slow and I imagine this is related to that.
So... after a full 2 days trying to get Media Manager to create independent media files from my subclips (after capturing a twenty minute chunk whole, then breaking it down), following the FCP manual volume II pg 42 to a tee... I concur w many others on this site that Media Manager *****! No matter what I did, it would not produce new files out of my subclips and instead kept giving me the same error: "Reconnect Media Failed. The clip such-and-such was unable to be reconnected to the trimmed file due to a mismatch of the media present in the file... yada yada." Yes, I shortened the end of the first subclip by a couple frames, and I also had another subclip to delete, and I tried going straight from the bin, then from the timeline, then after making all clips independent in the timeline... nothing!
Then I discovered BATCH EXPORT.
Using it, I exported my HDV subclips using Quicktime Movie, Self-Contained, HDV 30, audio and video. It processed 20 minutes of subclips in just a few minutes so I'm fairly confident that no real 'processing' occurred.
Can someone verify for me though that this is a safe procedure and that I am not re-processing HDV files with more HDV nonsense? Before continuing, I would just like to know for sure that Batch Export produces exactly the same result with subclips then if I were to simply capture one clip at a time.

ChrisI can confirm that it does not merge audio tracks. Track 1 and 2 remain the same. In fact everything appears as it would if I were to capture direct, I just want someone who knows better to validate this!
Also, has anyone else experienced the slowdown during log & capture that I described, with the intermittent message "searching for media"? -
Can you batch export in FCP X, can you batch export in FCP X
I work for a business and am constantly working on projects that have multiple, separate projects within the same project. because of this I do all my editing during my business day and then when I leave for the day, I used to batch export the projects and the next morning I would come into work and be able to move onto the next thing. so far in FCP X I have not been able to find out how to do that. I know that in FCP 7 you could do it obviously, but I'm wondering...does FCP X have that same capability because I can't seem to find it and I don't really have the time to waste by exporting during the day.

Andynick is correct about the batch export workaround. The way I do it is this:
1. Go to the Project Library
2. Select the first project you want to export
3. Go to file>Send to Compressor. (I set a shortcut -Sift>Option>C from preferences, If you need help with that let me know.
4. Repeat this process for each project
5. Go to Compressor (it will already be open)
6. Now here's where it gets kind of anoying, You need to choose which batch you want to make your main one. Pull off the tab on top and drag that project into your prefered batch, then close the old tab. Now you'll have two projects in your chosen batch.
7. repeat that process for the rest of the batches Compressor created. When you're done you should only have one batch open with all of your projects in it.
8. Submit the batch and let Compressor do it's thang.
Things to note:
When you send a project to compressor, it will automatically choose your default settings and location. If you want them to be different you'll have to do it mannually or change your defaults before you begin this process.
FUN right! Hopefully Apple will fix this so you can at least select multiple projects in the Project Library to make it a bit easier.

Premiere CS5 Batch Export and Sony PMW-EX1R
Hey Guys!
I have multiple sequences that I need to batch export, and was wondering if there's some kind of plugin that I can use in order to do so.
Normally, I would have to select each sequence, press Command M and place it into the render queue for Media Encoder. Is there a way I can do this by selecting a batch of sequences by highlighting them and send them into the Media Encoder's Render Queue at once, rather than individually?
Also, we film on a Sony XDCAM PMW-EX1R and need a workflow to help us out with compression.
We're working on MAC PRO's and so Media Encoder doesn't have a WMV compression setting for our computers, and the MOV settings give us weird bugs on our website. So to work around this we use Compressor to compress a raw file into various MOV and WMV movies and use Media Encoder to encode F4V files.
We export from Media Encoder in h.264 with a .mp4 extension to try and replicate what our camera shoots in, but I have a feeling that that might not be the correct format to do this in because Compressor gives us this weird Frame issue where it places a single random Frame at the very beginning of our video.
Is there a better export option for Sony XDCAM PMW-EX1R users that will give us a fairly small file size and also have great quality to match our original footage, as well as not having us have to wait long periods of time for export?

And they all gave us extremely large file sizes (which I understood since they're lossless) and H.264 seemed to give us as big of a file size as FCP did with it's MOV files which is what we're trying to do.So you're saying that I basically have to pick either using a file that isn't good for delivering content, or selecting a file that's big in size and long to export?
Well, look at it this way: if you want the highest quality output, you want to start with the highest quality source. If you're exporting from Premiere or through AME to a deliverable file--like a WMV or an H.264 MP4--you're all set, because you're accessing the original source media and unrendered effects as they exist in the Premiere Pro sequence. If you're exporting from a different app, you want the most pristine source file to create your deliverable.
Let's say you make apple juice. If you get whole apples from the orchard and press them, you make some mighty delicious juice. However, if you're trying to cut down on shipping costs, and you have the farmer smash the apples into chunky apple sauce so that you can fit more apples in the same amount of space, you can still make juice... but it won't be quite as tasty It's sort of the same with encoding...
An intermediate file will take up more space, because it's uncompressed (or less compressed), but it shouldn't take as long to generate, either--again, because you're not compressing it or you're compressing it less than your final deliverable. Obviously, there are dozens of codecs you could potentially use, so there's a fair bit of experimentation you need to do to determine the best combination for your purposes. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to encoding, unfortunately; it's a path fraught with compromises. -
Shot one frame short after import
I'm having a weird problem with 10bit uncompressed quicktimes imported into FCP being one frame shorter then they should be. I'm working with OS 10.4.11, FCP 6.0.3, Quicktime 7.4.5. The shots were originally shot on 35MM film then telecined at 1080 23.98 on HDCAM. I digitized them on a Kona LH at 1080 23.98 at 10 bit uncompressed. When my edit was completed I exported shots as self contained 1080 23.98 10-bit uncompressed quicktime files which we passed on to the VFX company on a FWHD. They did their work in Nuke/Shake and delivered the finished shots as self contained 1080 23.98 10-bit uncompressed quicktime files. After moving the files onto my media drive and then importing them into my project I find some of the shots are one frame shorter then the source shot. If I take one of the shots from the VFX render, open it with quicktime 7.4.5, and then save as an image sequence, the resulting folder imported into FCP and lined up with the VFX quicktime is now the correct length. It's one frame longer then the VFX quicktime but now matches the frame count of the source shot. I also opened the offending shot in a few other apps (After Effects 7 and Kona DPX translator) where they were the correct length
I suppose this could be related to the 23.98 frame rate however the compositors were working with quicktime files sent from FCP at the same frame rate.Depending on what software the VFX house used, the media may have been modified in a way that is causing QT to mis-interpret the frame count, frame rate, or duration of the clips. It sounds like the frames are all there, but QT thinks the clip is 1 frame shorter than it's supposed to be. The media is ok, and it's just the QT metadata that is funky.
The frame sequence process sounds clunky, but I bet there is another batch process you can do with FCP or compressor to fix the files. These would still require exporting a new set of files and reconnecting. Sometimes placing each clip in a sequence and re-exporting will restore the missing frame(s). You can also use dumpster to edit the QT metadata, but this is also a one-file-at-a-time process.
