Batch management check activation

Dear All,
Here I have one query
Can we able to activate the Batch management check in the material master-->Purchaging view, if we have open or completed sales documents and deliveries for that materail.
Reply ASAP
Regards,
Murali.

Hi,
If there are open sales orders, production orders, deliveries and WM transfer orders exists then you can't activate the batch management indicator. Also any stock exists in the present or past period, you can't activate.
Go through SAP notes 533276 - Setting the batch management requirement indicator and  30656 - Change base unit of measure/batch mngt requirement for details.
Check details in MM forum threads also.

  • How to remove Batch Management Check in the Material

I have one requirement to remove batch management check in the materials which should not be deleted.
I created a testing material with batch management check on and put in material through 561, then did good issue for
scrapping to remove the stock out. So existing stock is zero in Material Master.
Then deleted the batch in MSC2N by putting all the delete checks on. There was just one batch created for the material.
Then ran transaction MM74 to archive, the spool request is as below:
    MCHB: 000000000010000498 2002 1002 D000000200 entry archived                             1 000000000010000498
    Archiving Session Number                                  000004
Number of Written Data Objects                                1
Size of Archiving Session in MB                           0,011
Proportion of Header Data in %                             96,7
Then in MMPV changed the closing period to may as all the postings were performed in april.
Now still when I go and remove the batch management check in MM02 Purchasing view, still gives we DISPLAY ERROR message:
    The batch management requirement cannot
    be changed for the follow
    Batches already exist.
ANY IDEAS why its not allowing me to remove the check as I guess I have performed all the steps required.

Check whether the batch master is still exists in MSC3N .if it ia archived it should not be avialble in MSC3N
    Refer note:30656
    Reason and Prerequisites
The message that stocks still exist refers not only to stocks in the current period, but also to stocks in the previous period.
The reason for checking previous period stocks is that postings can also be made to the previous period when entering goods movements. This would result in inconsistencies if the base unit of measure had meanwhile been changed.
    Solution
Check whether stocks still exist for the previous period by displaying; for example, the plant stock view or storage location stock view of the material. You do this by selecting "Extras -> Previous period -> Prev. pd SLoc. stock or Prev. pd plant stock".
If previous period stocks exist, you can make a withdrawal posting as follows:
    1. Post the same amount to current period stock (for example, using movement type 561) so that previous period stock and current period stock are identical.
    2. Make a withdrawal posting in the previous period for the stock together with posting date (for example, using movement type 562).
You can now try to change the base unit of measure or the batch management requirement indicator again.
Since the posting of the previous period values to zero is identical with posting to the stocks of the current period, you should reverse the above stock postings (that is, the stock from the previous period should be booked in again) to make sure that the stock values from the previous and the current periods correspond to the state before the change. However, note that the postings are then carried out using the changed master data from the current period (for example, account determination and so on)

I am having a scenario where I need to activate the external number assignment for a batch in a specific plant. ( We do have around 50 plants)
Internal batch number and Automatic batch number assignment is activated at the client level. which is creating worries for me.
with activation of external numbers for batches , I do want to make this mandatory to put external batch at the time of <b>MIGO for Raw materials</b> and <b>CO11N at the time of operation confirmation for finshed goods</b> <u><i>( obvisously only for the materials having Batch management check activated in material master )</i></u>
Grateful if somebody could help me in acheving this..

    Hello Vikesh
Thanks for the reply. But bro..as I mentioned before also , i caant do the changes mentioned by you as its used by other 10 plants for the same client.
I need to do this for a specific plant only , and We dont want to create batch manually  , system should create batch number with external number range for the movement typr 101 <b>( for raw materials at the time of MIGO and for finished goods at the time of prod.order operation confirmation in CO11N)</b>.

  • Free Goods with Batch Management Activated !!!

    Hi Gurus,
I have defined a free goods master data for material on which batch is activated. I have defined the it as with a min of 10 qty 1 free good will be delivered as exclusive item
Now as the batch management is active and each batch has 1 qty in it. Now in order to deliver 1 free good first i have to enter 10 line item of the same material and after the 11 th line system should generate 1 free good item. But this is not happening is there any standard configuration required for this process
Early reply will be awarded accordingly.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Abaper,
Free Goods Determination follows the condition technique and hence you should have one condition type assigned to it one access sequence and then maintain the condition type (NA00) in a Free Goods Determination  Procedure (NA0000).
Then assign this procedure to your permitted sales area and maintain the free goods determination master data (VBN1).
Also Check the settings of Item Category Assignment
    It should be ORNORMFREE+TAN -
    > TANN.
By this settings your free goods should work.
    Reward if it helps you

  • Stock ageing report with batch Management active

    Hi Experts,
My client wants a Stock ageing report and batch management is active
According to my client, Inventory ageing report should show stock quantities and stock value as follows,
    1. Below one year
    2. Between one and two years
    3. Above two years
What are the table and fields to be considered for this report.
    Thanks
    NDS

What steps do you mean? taking an ABAP course and doing it yourself, or stepping to an ABAPer and let him know what he shall do?
you asked for a stock report, not for a movement report.
If I go into my warehouse and looking at all the stuff sitting there and want a report that should tell me how old this stuff is, then i am not intrested if there was a goods receipt movement.
However I would like to know the last movement date. In this case you have to look into table S032 or into the movements MSEG (with MKPF as header table)

  • Vl01n for so does not check batch management

batch management on the mm was not initially checked.
was checked after the material was put on the so.
    unrestricted batch stock does exist
attempt to vl01n for that line creates a delivery but does not check batch management under material tab
what needs done to get the delivery to inherit the batch management check?

    Dear Starz,
I guess according to SAP standard -  The indicator cannot be changed if stocks exist in either the current period or in the previous period.
However the same would be applicable as soon as you post the new stock after changing the material master record.
    Hope this helps...
    Give points if useful...

  • Batch management separately for packaging / fuel material

    Hi experts,
to be very clear , batch management is activated for all type of materials like raw material and finished goods.
For packaging material and fuel material i didnt activate batch management.
my issue is to maintain batch for packaging and fuel material with batch no. separately.
if any customization or through any exits / badi ?
i also maintain for stock at  batch level .
    regards
    dks

    Hi,
If batch is not activated for Material type packaging / fuel material...and stock /PO/GRN/IV exists for those material, then its impossible to to acitivate batches for those materials whose stock /PO/GRN/IV exists ...
If you want to maintain batches for these material types then you have to reverse all documents and you have to clear all stocks, which will be tedious job.
Better from future when ever you create new material for those material types, then activate the batch management check box.

  • Deactivate batch management

    Dear all,
we have uploaded stock for the material and by mistake the batch management was active.
but we reversed the stocks but still i am not able to deactivate batch management in material master
Pl Guide how to deactive the batch management in MMR.
    regards,
    Vimlesh

    Hi,
Please, delete any open documents and reverse any material movements on this material. If batches - even zero stock batches - are still assigned to the material, delete them and reorganize the tables MCH1, MCHA and MCHB. At this point the flag can be changed, also consider that :
    1) If you want to change the batch management, it is not enough to
check for stock. You must also reorganize all existing batches for the
material. You can do this using the TA MM73 and MM74 or SARA. After
you have reorganized the batches you should be able to change
the batch management. The Object to use in the txn SARA is MM_SPSTOCK.
(You must first set the deletion flag for the batch using txn MSC2N. )
    2) If you have defined the batch level in the TA OMCE to 'unique at
material level' it is not possible to turn off the batch management
flag in one plant. You can can only turn it off for all plants at the
same time. That means if you want to turn it off, the system checks
all plants for the existence of stock. In other words, the batch
management flag will be the same for all plants at any time if you
use the batch level 'unique at material level'.
    Hope this can help

  • Batch management/Variant Con

Hi Can u send me through my company id please send Batch Mnagement/ Variant Configuration documents to my id is [email protected]
    regards,
    udhay

    dear kumar
Please find the Notes on Batch Management Below:
SAP allows a configuration setting for 3 different batch levels. This wills effective your possibilities. Option Number 2 is the default configuration for SAP out of the box:
1.) Plant - can allow for the Batch Management Flag on a material sold out of 2 different plants to be set independently. Batch numbers can be used for multiple materials, and batch specifications and analytical results can be different for each batch (multiple batch Master records).
2.) Material - Batch Management flag is set the same for the material across all plants that use it. Batch numbers can be used for multiple materials, however, batch specification and analytical results are the same for the batch (one Batch Master Record).
3.) Client - Batch Management flag is set the same for material across all plants that use it. Batch number can only be used for one material across the client. (One Batch Master Record).
If the Batch level flag is set at the Client level, it allows for a batch number to be used with only one material throughout the entire SAP client. This is troublesome with products which are produced in bulk and then packaged into smaller size containers for sale. Due to the limitation of having only one batch number per material, when the product is packaged, new batch numbers have to be assigned to the finished packages, even though the same bulk material is being used inside the package. Because of this work-a rounds have been created and business processes adjusted to accommodate this restriction.
There is a process in SAP that will allow for the conversion of the Batch Level in SAP from Client level to Material level. Please investigate SAP notes 41715, 891902, 893053, 900359 among others, and it appears that there is a conversion program in SAP that will do this in configuration.
In addition to above Please find some more stuff,
A batch in the Materials Management system is defined as a subset or partial quantity of a material that is managed separately from other subsets of the same material. Each batch is identified not only by its material identification but also by a separate batch number. Typical examples of batches include different production lots (such as paints, dyes, wallpapers, and pharmaceutical products), delivery lots, or quality grades of a material.
In Sales and Distribution (SD), it is possible to determine batches that match customer specifications. Batch determination can be triggered at two points in the process, either when the sales order is entered, or when the delivery is created.
If you enter a batch number directly into the sales document, the system checks whether its availability and expiration dates are valid. When you copy a pre-sales document to a sales order, any existing batch numbers are also automatically copied but cannot be changed in the sales order. If you create a sales order with materials to be managed in batches that does not have a preceding document, you can change the batch numbers until subsequent documents, such as the delivery, have also been created. If, when creating a delivery, the system discovers that the copied batch is not valid, a warning is issued by the system. In this case, the batch specification must be changed in the sales document source.
    Maintaining Master Data for Batches
If a material is managed in batches, you indicate this fact in the material master record in either the Purchasing or Plant data/storage 1 views. You can also create and maintain master data for individual batches, specifying such information as the expiration date, valuation type, and the country of origin. If you are planning to use batch split at delivery time, you must also maintain the relevant customer master records for those customers who permit batches to be split.
Entering Batch Number in Sales Document
Before you can enter a batch number in a sales document, a delivering plant must be entered for the item. If no delivering plant is entered, the Batch field remains inactive.
You can find the Batch field on the Item overview tab page in the table with the items.
If you do not know the batch number, you can display all the available batches in the delivering plant for your material, by using the input help.
An availability check is carried out for the batch, which you have entered, and the quantity available is confirmed.
If no batch number is proposed in the sales order for an item with material to be handled in batches, automatic batch determination can be carried out in the delivery.
There are four points at which you should use batch determination in Sales & Distribution. These are:
    Quotations
    Quantity contracts
    Sales orders (or scheduling agreement)
    Delivery
We use batches in SD where the materials are produced under one batch and they are given the shell life expiry date for each batch,
A1) Normally we use batch determination at delivery level, because at the time of order material may or may not be created. For this material should be configured with batch and batch determination should be checked in sales views of material.
A2) Batch Determination during order Creation.
For this you need to maintain Classes d for you Material. Depending on the Manufacturing process you can define the characteristics for your material.
Ex: Purity for Medicines, Resistance for Electric Items.
You need to create a class (You might have to create a new class type) which incorporates the characteristic.
First Create the Characteristic Using CT04 and then using CL02 create the Class including this characteristic.
Then in your material master Classification View Enter this class.
Then Create a Batch for the particular plant and Storage Location using MSC1N.Give the value of the characteristics in this batch.
Then go to SPRO ->Logistics General ->Batch Management and maintain the Condition Technique (Procedure, Strategy Types and assignment to sales docs etc).
Then Create the Batch Determination Record using VCH1.

  • Free Goods (With Batch Management)

    Hi Gurus,
I have defined a fee goods master data for material on which batch is activated. I have defined the it as with a min of 10 qty 1 free good will be delivered as exclusive item
Now as the batch management is active and each batch has 1 qty in it. Now in order delivery 1 free good first i have to enter 10 line item of the same material but after the 11 th line system should generate 1 free good item. But this is not happening is there any standard configuration required for this process
Early reply will be awarded accordingly.
    Thanks in advance

Free goods is determined per sales order item. The system does not take the sum of more items. You have to insert the quantity on one item.

  • Same material master in two company codes with batch management

    Hi,
There are two company codes in one client. In one batch management is already active. But in another company code batch management is not required. Is it possible to have batch management active in one company code and inactive in another company code where both the co. codes are in the same client? The same material master to be used in both company codes.
    Thanks,
    Satya.

    Hi Satyabarata,
As far as you dont want to move the same materiel i.eStock Transfer with Inter comapy billing scenario then it  will be fine.
If you try to Transfer a Batch manged material into a non batch manged CC it will work fine. But on the other hand when do via-versa the system will ask for the Batch information where the Batch management is active.
If you want to use same Material Master for both CC then its not advisable.
Please let me know if you need any other information.
    Thx.

  • Material getting set for Batch Management in O/B delivery

    Hi Folks,
For a material which is not batch managed, I created an outbound delivery.
For some reason, the material is getting set as 'BatchManagement' even though the Batch Management indicator is not set.
Due to this PGI is not possible.
Any thoughts on why the 'Batch Management' indicator has been set and how to resolve this?
    Regards,

    Hi Jürgen  ,
I am unable to replicate this problem in Q. Its occuring only in P while doing a goods issue.
    Message is
"The batches are not defined for delivery item XXXXXX".
As I said earlier, we have not set the batch management check box in MM.
However the outbound delivery has the batch management check box selected .
Anything I missed to check? Q is almost identical to P. But still issue is only in P.
    Regards,

  • Change Batch Management Flag in Material Master

    TCode : MM17
    Select General Material Data     MARA
    Execute(F8)
    Enter Material Number
    Execute(F8)
Click on Select Fields Icon above New Values under General Material Data tab
    Choose "Batch Management"
Check/Uncheck Flag for Batch Management & Save

    Hi there,
Besides the note 30656 , there are two important points to be take into your consideration:
    1) If you want to change the batch management, it is not enough to check for stock. You must also reorganize all existing batches for the material. You can do this using the TA MM73 and MM74 or SARA. After you have reorganized the batches you should be able to change the batch management. The Object to use in the txn SARA is MM_SPSTOCK. You must first set the deletion flag for the batch using txn MCH2.
    2) If you have defined the batch level in the TA OMCE to 'unique at material level', it is not possible to turn off the batch management flag in one plant. You can can only turn it off for all plants at the same time. That means if you want to turn it off, the system checks all plants for the existence of stock. In other words, the batch management flag will be the same for all plants at any time if you use the batch level 'unique at material level'.
    Hope this helps!
    Henry
