Batch Monitor and Compressor do nothing when I submit...

Hey, guys,
I've re-install the whole OS and Final Cut Studio 2,
I use Compressor to encode my video clip,
after setup the format and the destination,
I click the "submit" Button, the batch job send to Batch Monitor,
but Compressor and Batch Monitor do nothing, the status bar didn't run.
Compressor's CPU usage is only about 0.x %.
Any body have the same problem?
How to solve this problem?

hi Thomas!
I have norton 2005 and turned it off when I downloaded itunes and I get the same result. quicktime will open for me however.

  • Batch Monitor and the Mac OS X Firewall

This is more or less what people have been saying for a few years now, "When I use Compressor the Mac OS X firewall repeatedly asks permission to allow incoming connections for the Batch Monitor! Why?!?!"
No matter how many times you click to approve or deny, the firewall alert reappears every five to twenty seconds. There seem to be many, many people with this problem. So far, the only solutions are to:
    1) Shut off the Mac OS firewall
    2) Switch the Mac OS firewall to "Allow only essential services" every time I want to use Compressor (a cumbersome solution at best)
    2) Keep clicking the buttons
    3) Don't use Compressor
While some might argue that Compressor is a poor substitute for a real video conversion utility, for the vast majority of users, it's the only game in town.
So, dear Apple, I humbly beg you on behalf of the literally thousands of users who deal with this problem, please either create a solution or suggest one.
I'm still on Final Cut 6 and Compressor 3. So, if anyone knows that the latest release solves this issue, I'd love to hear it.

I'm dealing with this same problem and have actually noted that you are confirmed about the YEARS because I found this problem posted December 6, 2007
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6563672
It's unfortunate that a 'Bad Taste' was left after that reply from the guy who called you a 'nitwit' - I didn't even pay attention to his name - at least you have one demiankz - and took the time to start this post. I humbly thank you.
At any rate, I was determined to find out - because I have always been struggling to 'Allow' it and last night I decided to 'block' it.
Does anyone know what is the right setting?
Also - one work around that has been working for me is this:
    1) when the popup comes up (leave it up) - Open the firewall, unlock the settings padlock at the bottom left (if it is locked) -
    2) find batch monitor and whatever the setting is - force a toggle i.e. if it is "allow" select "block" and visa versa - back to whatever you desire it to be. Just to force it to recognize you are changing it.
    3) NOW answer the popup to match whatever you toggled to in the firewall.
    4) lock the padlock again.
I've compressed a lot of jobs and I notice once I perform this it goes away for my entire job, provided I leave it alone until it finishes.
If you do something like browse the internet or work on other things, the message tends to pop up again.
Of course, after your job finishes, you will have to do this again - and that's why I wish people would keep responding to this post until we get an answer.
Persistence causes results. Negativity just causes - well, just ignore that.
At least attempt to be helpful, which I felt I have tried. It may work, it may not, or it may cause someone to recognize what the real problem is.
Good luck and hope we get an answer soon!

  • Batch Monitor "hangs" on "processing" - nothing happens

All of a sudden, I can't use compressor 2 any more. Batch monitor hangs forever on "processing". It's stuck at 0% with an "unknown" time remaining.
When I try to stop and delete that file, it's stuck on "canceling" forever and nothing happens.
Does anyone know what to do? I tried to trash pref files and repaired disk permissions. I don't know what else to try.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • AE CC loses connection with second monitor and audio mixer (BLACKMAGIC) when switching to desktop

    specifications:
    Mac OsX 10.7.5
AE cc (part of creative cloud, up-to-date) NOT TRIAL VERSION
software for connecting monitor and adui mix panel: Blackmagic Desktop Video 10.0
second monitor: Sony Trimaster EL PVM 2541
audio mix panel: Behringer Xenyx x1204USB audio mixer
Blackmagic connects the Sony screen + Behringer Xenyx x1204USB audio mixer to the mac computer.
    the problem:
When working in after effects, we link the program to show the video preview on the second screen (the sony one)
While the work area is still visible on the Mac screen.
The audio is also regulated through Blackmagic so we can mix on the xenyx mix panel.
Everything works fine as long as we stay in after effects.
If, for a brief moment, even a second, we swhitch to the desktop, or an other program (internet, acrobat reader, etc) After effects looses the connection to Blackmagic (forgets it exists). So we suddenly have no audio, or no longer a seperate video preview image.
The option to select Blackmagic in the dropdown menu is also gone.
If we restart After effects though, it's connected again.
    Any ideas?
I added two screenshots to clarify.
The screenshots is when it does work, and after effects still recognizes blackmagic.
    Cheers,
    Andreas

When this happens, open Activity Monitor. Is Adobe QT32 Server running? That is required for QuickTime video preview. If it is not running, this is the troubleshooting you want to do:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-with-after-ef fects.html
In the next update to After Effects CC, the old QuickTime video preview (on Mac; DirectShow video preview on Windows) is being replaced by Mercury Transmit:

  • Batch monitor with Compressor 3 does not say how long compression will take?

It seems to me that Batch Monitor no longer says how long compression will take.
    Am I missing something?

    I thought I had Compressor 4, but it's 3.

  • Batch monitor

i just stopped a batch in mid compression because I looked at one of the results and realised it had a fault. I then trashed everything and set the batch up again to re-compress it. When it came to batch monitor the old batch was still there so I deleted it again or at least I tried to delete it. All the movie files except the one that was in mid compression had their status changed to cancelled but the one that was midway through was still processing. But nothing was happening. I've tried to delete the batch anyway I can but it wont go. I tried trashing the preferences but that didn't help - unless there are preferences elsewhere than in the library folder. I tried repairing disc permissions. So far nothing will get rid of this batch and until it goes batch monitor is locked up.
    Any ideas?

  • Batch Monitor Wont cancel item :(

I had a file that I wanted to compress from Motion, so I saved it to my desktop and put it through Compressor. I checked it in Batch monitor as it didn't seen to be doing anything also I spotted that I wanted one more filter on the footage, so I cancelled the file in batch monitor and trashed the desktop original.
My problem is now everytime I go back into batch monitor after submitting a new file in compressor, the canned file is still there trying to cancel and it wont let me get anything else done.
Please advise if anyone out there can help, as im going out of my mind trying to sort it out - my last resort is to do a clean install and I really dont want to do that

Cannot cancel a job in Batch Monitor

I sumbitted a Compressor 3 job, a 10-sec Motion project that I wanted to encode in Flash using the On2 plugin (I also have Flash 8 installed). This kind of job was routine with Compressor 2 and took very little time.
With Compressor 3, things look weird. I submitted the job and almost 25 minutes later it was still sitting in the job list of the Batch Monitor, its progress bar empty, no processor activity reported. I decided to cancel this job but was not successful. I quit Batch Monitor, trashed permissions of both Compressor 3 and Batch Monitor, deleted the Motion project that was the source of the encode, re-installed Compressor 3 - nothing helps.
Now whenever I submit a new job it lands in the queue which is being halted by the old indestructible job. This defective job does not progress and I cannot cancel it. If I Reset Background Processing, this job comes back as a new job and sits there ticking off new time. The log follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <services>
    </services>
If anyone can tell me how to get rid of this job without erasing the hard drive, I will be very grateful.

Sounds similar to the problem I described in this thread.
This is how I deleted the entire queue when I couldn't cancel in Batch Monitor:
    1) In the Finder, select the menu item Go->Go to Folder...
    2) Enter /var/spool/qmaster
    3) Trash the folder(s) that you see in that folder
    4) In Compressor, select the menu item Compressor->Reset Background Processing...

    I found this thanks George

  • Processes in Batch Monitor Disappear

I'm using a fairly large quick cluster that has about 52 processors on it. There is a designated controller that is not sharing any processors for compressing. I'm having a problem where the batch of files compressing completely disappears from the batch monitor. It looks like there is nothing processing, however the qmaster light is still green.
Unfortunately, it's not something I can just wait out and see if files start showing up. Anyone else have this problem or know of some fixes?

Depending on what type of encode I'm doing, Batch Monitor does crazy stuff. When doing transcodes using H.264 codec, I've all but given up on relying on the time estimates being accurate. It will be done when it's done. For everything else, it's fairly reliable so long as I drill down to what's actually being encoded to get the real ETA until finish and I let it get past %5 complete. The initial times to complete encodes, anything from %1-4% are rarely accurate. And sometimes, it loses track what it's reporting on. When that happens, all I do is quit and launch it again.

  • Batch Monitor non-responisve

I'm using the most current version of compressor. Every time I submit a video file to compress, the batch monitor says processing but nothing is happening. I wait and wait and wait and the elapsed time gets longer and longer. There's no indication that compressor is doing anything.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled FCP2 and still get the same problem. Please help not sure what's going on here...
    support would be greatly appreciated.

Batch monitor is just that, an application which monitors batches being submitted to Qmaster.
Compressor and Qmaster work hand in hand, but unfortunately, Qmaster has a reputation of being quite a pain to use if its not working right. Just take a look at this forum and you'll see why.

this is getting very agrivating... i never had this problem before. i can't seem to pin it to any event of any kind.

Well, registry keys are pretty icky to work with. Over at support.microsoft.com you'll see how often they emphasize that editing the registry can make your computer unbootable.
Is your stuff backed up in case editing the registry goes south on ya'?
I'd recommend you uninstall both programs again, then restart your computer, note who you login as, then go to the Run command on the start menu and run 'regedit'. I do not have that same registry key on my Windows XP pc running the latest version of iTunes. You could try deleting that whole key, then restarting your computer, downloading the latest version of iTunes from Apple, and reinstalling.

  • Droplet jobs submitted not showing up in Batch Monitor

I am compressing MP4 files in large batches of 100-150 files at a time by dragging them over a droplet. I can submit about 4-6 batches in a row, but after that Batch Monitor does not appear to accept anymore batches.
I can continue dragging files over my droplet and submit the batch. The process completes as if the batch was submitted successfully, but it never shows up in batch monitor and the output files are never created. Any ideas?
I have three, dual-quad Intel machines with 8 GB of RAM in their own private cluster processing my jobs.

  • Multiple Compressor/Qmaster problems...clusters and batch monitor launch

    Hi All,
I am continuing to have problems with Compressor and Qmaster. My original problem was that I was trying to create clusters to speed up my workflow. My computer is the only computer in the network. The issue came up when I created a cluster and it would work fine if I dragged in a QT from outside FCP to process in compressor, but if I tried to export a QT from FCP to compressor it would fail. Yesterday as I was about to leave work I was trying to export stuff through compressor and the batch monitor wouldn't launch. Sometimes I could get it to, but the QT it was exporting would disappear once it was processed.
I've deleted the compressor/FCP prefs and I also tried reinstalling compressor/qmaster. I trashed all the files I was supposed to and it couldn't get rid of all of them because it said they were still in use. AHHH!!!! I'm getting a little frustrated. I called apple and in so many words, they said, "Well, that's what happens with Studio 2. Try reinstalling it."
Help! I'm on FCP studio 2.

As mentioned in other threads, virtual clusters are very tricky to setup properly and, unless you're doing a lot of H.264 encoding there's almost no benefit in doing it.
I highly suggest that you (and anyone struggling with VC's) pick up a copy of "Compressor 3 Quick Reference Guide, Brian Gary" and get a solid understanding of the environment VC's create - and what they're really good for.

  • Compressor Batch - will NOT open batch monitor

i had to reinstall my friends FCP/Compressor/DVDSP (he didn't want the other stuff)
but now when we try to export a file from compressor to a dvd file such as dolby audio
we get an error saying "unable to connect to background process"
any ideas? maybe we need to install something else?
i did notice (at least i think) batch monitor was in the applications folder and now its in utilities
    maybe thats the issue?
any ideas i can give him so we can continue to work on some stuff
    thanks

Batch Monitor is meant to be in Utilities, so that is fine.
Try these steps (I assume you are using Compressor 3):

  • Batch monitor doesn't launch and doesn't exist at all :(

    Hi,
    I desperately need your help.
My problems started a couple of months ago when a less than 2-hour project in Final Cut was converted by compressor into a 6-gig file.
Following basic troubleshooting steps described in FAQ, I deleted user preferences and the program went back to normal.
Yesterday my 1 hour and 30 minutes project was converted into 5 gig file. My troubles started all over again. This time I also tried to delete user preferences but now it DIN"T WORK.
I decided to remove and reinstall compressor and Qmaster following by the steps described at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888?viewlocale=en_US
All went well, BUT now when I export my project using compressor, batch monitor doesn't launch! And when I look into Applications->Utilities I don't SEE THE BATCH MONITOR program at all!
Maybe I have not installed the entire thing necessary for normal performance of the compressor application? (when I reinstalled compressor, I checked Compressor and Qmaster boxes only, and unchecked final cut pro, DVD studio pro and the rest of the applications I did not need to reinstall)
    Please advise.
    Regards,
    Tatiana
P.S. I'm using FCP 5.0 not the newest FCP studio 2.0

    Thank you for your reply!
Still trying to figure out what's going on.
I checked the option it IS on. Thank you for your suggestion, though.
Regarding Batch Monitor as a separate program, yes I know that I should look for it in the UTILITIES folder. But it is NOT THERE! How can it be possible if I reinstalled Compressor AND Apple Qmaster?
    Any thoughts?
Maybe I did or did not delete some file(s) before the reinstallation? What should have I done before plugging in the installation dvd with the Final Cut Pro 5.0? I followed all steps described in the basic troubleshooting section on the Apple web site. Ironically, I got into even more trouble
    I appreciate your help.
