Batch monitor Quicktime error  -50

Can anyone shed any light on what QuickTime error -50 means?
I'm encoding iPod and RTSP streaming files, (with closed captioning SCC files referenced in the additional content area of compressors inspector window.
When the files are encoding in the batch monitor window, many will give the quicktime error -50, if I run them again, most will encode fine but a few may still give the -50 error. Running those that error again a third time will encode fine.
It's very frustrating that this error keeps popping up.
I have completely wiped my boot drive and installed the FCP suit and Mac OS, twice, (formating the hard drive each time) so as to make sure that I had a clean install of everything. I reset all of my minimal settings by hand for the encode templates in compressor and I still get this -50 error only on my Mac Pro.
I also have a G5/quad that uses the exact same settings and version of FCP suite, and it never errors. I have the exact same setup on both machines, same number of internal hard drives, using the same drive name designations in both machines, (identical in every way, that I can make them) as far as using the FCP suite, (compressor especially) and I am still getting this very annoying QuickTime error -50 in the batch monitor.
All software on both machines are current with the latest releases of the Leopard OS, QuickTime 7.6, and FCP suite.
Any I idea of what QuickTime error -50 means would greatly be appreciated. I'd like to stop having to re-run these files multiple times to get them done.

  • Batch monitor Quicktime error  -6662

Does anyone know what Quicktime error -6662 means.
This error was displayed on one of three alternate version of the same file in the batch monitor window. Two of the alternates finished with no errors, and one failed to finish, displaying this Quicktime error: QuickTime Error: -6662

Here's a little more info on the problems I'm having with compressor.
I noticed today when trying to launch compressor, it failed due to no video memory being available. This was due to a KVM being attached to the mac pro and when I shutdown the monitor at night this also diconnects the monitor via the KVM being powered down.
This may have an affect on the video cards memory, causing the video memory to show zero memory in compressor. Only restarting the mac, while connected to the monitor resolves the memory issue.

  • Batch failed: quicktime error 0

I saw another post about this topic, but no real answer.
I'm cutting a feature film shot on DVCPRO HD 1080 24pa. I've burned several DVD's throughout the course of the edit with Compressor, using the 16:9 Best quality 90 minutes setting. (the project is under 85 minutes TRT).
Last night however, the batch failed and gave me a "quicktime error 0." I don't think it's a ram problem as I have it maxed out at 2 gigs on my MBPro.
Like I mentioned, I've successfully burned countless DVD's this way, so I'm not sure what has changed.
Any thoughts or advice regarding the problem is greatly appreciated.

    Jay,
A lot of times that you get that error it's because there's a piece of media in the timeline that QuickTime doesn't like/know how to handle. I ran into this a lot with a documentary that had tons of stills and here and there QT would choke on one.
Try exporting a reference movie (File > Export > QuickTime Movie) from FCP and see if that 1) exports successfully and then 2) encodes properly in Compressor when used as the source media instead of the sequence directly exported from Compressor.
Often times, if you have some media corruption, the export will fail and/or rendering the timeline will fail too.

  • HELP - batch fails - quicktime error 0

Hi, I sent a qt file from final cut to compressor and tried to used the dvd - mpeg2 best quality 90mins setting.I have tried 3 times and every time, about halfway through, it stops and says "failed: Quicktime error 0. I'm trying to make a file for dvdsp. Im not sure what else to try
    Many thanks

There is probably something terribly wrong at that point in your movie. Bad media file, bad render, missing font, no way to know from here.

  • Batch Monitor troubles - no progress

I'd like to export a project from final cut pro (6.0.4) with compressor (3.0.4), as I did about 50 times before. Compressor opens, I choose my settings and click "send". Batch Monitor opens and that's it. No progress in Batch Monitor, no encoding, no failure code, nothing.
    In the information-box I find:
    pid="261" what="service-request" req-id="06B72FBC-BBB5-4F63-B985-6C4CA034BFF2:1" msg="Error: unrecognized request."></mrk>
What's wrong? If possible I'd like to avoid to reinstall compressor.
I already deleted the prefs for compressor and batch Monitor, I repaired disk permissions and restarted.
Exporting the movie with quicktime works fine, exporting audio only works fine, too.
What's wrong with Batch Monitor? Any idea someone?
    Thx, Wolfgang

Sounds like Qmaster has missing assets.
Qmaster is what controls batch monitors, batch lists.
You will need to reinstall Qmaster again.

  • Compressor quicktime error -50

i have an fcp project i need to convert to mpeg 4 improved for fast cable streaming. after completing my upgrades of fcp 4.5 and compressor 1.2.1 and fixing the QMaster the file got to the batch monitor. after a second of processing it quit. history says failed: quicktime error-50. any ideas for a fix?

If I may just chime in here with my experience with QT error -50, this seems to be a bug, which I have reported to the FCP development team. There is also another error that compressors batch monitor also reports which is Quicktime error -6662.
These error seem to be quite prevalent on the Intel Mac Pros, but on my G5/quad these errors rarely occur. I have tested the same source files on both workstations, (Mac Pro and G5/quad) and the errors are just about exclusive to the intel's. Once in a blue moon I will get a quicktime error -50, preventing the encode to complete on the G5/quad.
The preliminary opinion of Apple support was that the errors may be related to writing to any drive other than the boot drive, but seems to be a guess at this point, rather than fact. My testing of this hypotheses seems to disprove this assumption, being that I used the boot drive in my test as the destination drive, for encodes.
Still waiting for Apple to address this problem.

  • Compressor-failed mpeg4-quicktime error -50

My much loved Compressor software has been having issues since a crash a few months ago, resulting in a system back up.
Now, somehow I'm able to compress MPEG 2 files but I cannot compress MPEG 4 files.
The attempt immediately fails in batch monitor window and reveals the error message: quicktime erroe -50.
Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening and how I could fix it?
    Thank you,
    sean

The latest version of QuickTime is 7.0.2 and you'll also want to update to the latest Pro Apps support package (link follows for Mac OS X 10.4.X):
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/proapplicationsupport30macosx104.html
You may already be up to date and even if not this may not solve your problem, but it would be a first step before trying other things.

  • Quicktime error 0

    Hi,
I'm trying to export a video that I sent from FCP 6 to compressor and every time it says Fail, QuickTime error 0, I don't understand I've tried with different compression settings, DVD Best Quality 90 minutes, 120 minutes, Fastest encode 150, 120... all with the same result, Failed and when I look in the Batch Monitor it only says QuickTime Error 0.
    Anybody knows what could be??
    thanks
    Javier

    Hi,
did you send it directly from FCP timeline?
If so export the edited video as QT movie self-contained or reference movie and import that into Compressor.
That should solve the problem, which I believe is caused by some corrupted media sitting in FCP timeline and not Compressor.
    Good luck,
    G.

  • Failed: QuickTime Error: 0

For about 2 months now I've been trying different ways to burn this movie I have. Everytime I try to convert it into a Mpeg 2 file I get the message "Failed: QuickTime Error: 0". I recognized some glitchy video. Is there anything I can do? Cand I somehow get rid of the glitchy video or this problem? Thanks.

    Greetings Carcharias:
I've been where you have been with my setup. Here's my setup: G5 Dual 2.0 with 3.5Gigs memory, OS 10.3.9., FCP 4.1.1, Compressor 1.2.1 (tried Compressor 1.2 also with same problem), Batch Monitor 1.2.1., QT 7.0.3. I do not have QT Pro.
I've communicated to Apple with this very problem. They've not sent me any findings. It's been a long road for me, but I believe I have discovered the fix for this machine a couple weeks ago that was never mentioned in any other posts I've diligently searched. I've only seen about 3 other different fixes in all. This one I found in the Compressor Help manual --the .pdf file. located in the menu bar.
Interesting as it sounds, plain instructions tell you in the Late-Breaking News About Compressor 1.2 that when upgrading, and most likely any upgrade to any version, new presets must be enabled. Pg 2 says after upgrading to 1.2 to go into the Compressor folder located in the home folder>Library>Application Support>. In here, you'll see all the presets that are used within Compressor. Everything must be deleted in order for it to regenerate a new preset folder when an upgrade is performed.
Well, I've never done this and after coming this far, I surely thought this can't be it? I've had the failed: quicktime error: 0 error over and over till I was blue in the face. The first time I remember it going about 30 min till it stopped and popped this error. Other times after that, the batch stopped inside 3 minutes and then sometimes just seconds or even one second. And even with that it will always encode the audio without fail. I don't know the reason for that. But it has encoded the video to a 19 sec clip successfully on one test.
So with Compressor quit out of, simply delete the folder entirely, empty the trash and relaunch Compressor. It will automatically rebuild this folder with the new presets. Just read carefully for yourself in the Compressor Help .pdf manual located in the help menu.
After doing so and I did restart my computer, I lined up two lengthy jobs -- a 132 min. and 85 min job, back to back it encoded both at the highest setting in 10.5 hrs. I've a G4 17" 1.33Ghz Powerbook with identical software versions (already installed when I bought it) and 1 gig of ram. It would spend 24 hrs on the 132 min job with same setting. Yes, generally, Compressor is slow by professional standards, but I believe it does quite well considering its price with either suite it's offered.
I'm interested to hear from others if this part of the mystery was simply overlooked. Since this fix, I have still encountered this error, but it was on media that was originally brought over from iMovie 5.0.2. exported to QT. But it's still a mystery as to why my G4 PB 1.33 will tame it just fine, but with a good time wait. The PB has never encountered this error.
    Sincerely,
    Darin Koch

  • Compressor keeps failing - "Quicktime Error 0"

    Hi all
Compressor 1.2.1 has decided to start playing up - whenever I submit a sequence from FCP HD 4.5, and use any of the mpeg2 presets (or indeed a custom preset) the Batch Monitor opens fine but the batch fails almost immediately, with the error message:
    "QuickTime Error: 0"
Neither Compressor or Batch Monitor are crashing, the encodes are just failing. I've tried exporting from several different sequences in different projects, and they all fail.
One of the sequences is only 20 seconds long, just a clean clip captured from tape, no added effects, transitions or edits. So it's not that there's a tricky or dodgy bit of rendering or processing in the middle of the sequence that's making it stumble.
My sequence video setting is Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 - could Compressor be having problems with uncompressed video? Seems unlikely...
Oddly, the mpeg-1 preset in Compressor seems to work fine, it only fails on the mpeg-2 presets.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Im have the same problem as well. Did you guys ever figure out how to resolve the issue?
It seems like this error came up alot in previous versions of fcp, and it was tied to currupt/missing render files or missing mpeg2 components. I think the error is a bit different for fcpx. Ive tried everything I can think of as well.
    Thanks,
    Carlton

  • QuickTime error -50, (only on Mac Pro workstation)

Does anyone know what QuickTime error -50 means?
I'm getting this constantly on my Mac Pro 3.0Ghz workstation, (in Batch Monitor.) At the end of encoding about 3 hours of footage into iPod format, Batch Monitor begins to error on about 3/4 of the encodes left to do, beyond the 3 hours of footage that have already been processed.
I was told, (by Apple support) that it may be something to do with the hard drives, but they all check out just fine. I also have a G5/quad running the exact same version of compressor and there are no errors during processing, (in batch monitor) no matter how much footage is processed.
Here's my hard drive configuration on the Mac Pro as well as the G5/quad.
Boot drive, (running all of my Apps) internal drive on Mac Pro.
Xserve RAID 10TB, (used for source movie storage, in 10bit uncompressed format, AJA I/o codec.)
2nd drive, (used for storage of reference movies stored on RAID) internal drive on Mac Pro.
3rd drive, (used for storing final encoded movies) internal drive on Mac Pro.\
All software and OS X are new installs, (from original disks.) The drives have been completely erased, formated and new installs of all software, using nothing from the original installs on the Mac Pro, as well as updated to all current versions of software and still the problem persists only on the Mac Pro 3.0Ghz, (4 core) workstation.
Any guidance on the source of the QuickTime -50 error would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.
I tried a Google search, but to no avail, (no mention of QT error -50.)
I also looked at the error codes list you provided, but it would appear that those codes are related to OS X operation, (unrelated to QuickTime errors) but thanks for trying!
This is a very strange issue that has plagued me for as long as I have had this Mac Pro. I can take those files that failed with QT error -50, run them again and as long as there part of the first 3 hours of footage that is encoded on the Mac Pro, they will encode just fine. It is after that, that the wheels fall off and the QT -50 errors begin. Very frustrating as you can imagine.
I'm forced to run no more that three hours of footage at a time, limiting over the weekend encodes, on large batches of footage that needs to be transcoded into iPod format.
But again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated!

  • QuickTime error when exporting from FCP 4.5 - Compressor

I'm still on Final Cut Pro 4.5, waiting to get money for a hardware upgrade before I can move to FCP 6, etc.
I have upgraded to QuickTime Pro 7.2.
This setup worked fine until today.
I selected a sequence in FCP and tried to Export to Compressor (the source material was NTSC MiniDV video footage in FCP) using an MPEG-4 Fast Cable Streaming 320x240 export setting. I used this setting successfully to export a very similar project only last week. This evening when I tried exporting via Compressor the attempt failed, and Batch Monitor's log noted a "QuickTime Error -50". I tried this repeatedly this evening, and it produced the same results even after restarting the machine.
I'm baffled by this. I had no such problem last week.
    Any clues?

  • Batch Monitor and Compressor do nothing when I submit...

    Hey, guys,
I've re-install the whole OS and Final Cut Studio 2,
I use Compressor to encode my video clip,
after setup the format and the destination,
I click the "submit" Button, the batch job send to Batch Monitor,
but Compressor and Batch Monitor do nothing, the status bar didn't run.
Compressor's CPU usage is only about 0.x %.
Any body have the same problem?
    How to solve this problem?

    hi Thomas!
I have norton 2005 and turned it off when I downloaded itunes and I get the same result. quicktime will open for me however.
NIS 2005 is the usual suspect with "symptomless launch suppression".
    first try:
    b noir, "itunes wont open" #6, 02:11pm Oct 3, 2005 CDT
... but if no joy with that, try:

  • Compressor Batch - will NOT open batch monitor

i had to reinstall my friends FCP/Compressor/DVDSP (he didn't want the other stuff)
but now when we try to export a file from compressor to a dvd file such as dolby audio
we get an error saying "unable to connect to background process"
any ideas? maybe we need to install something else?
i did notice (at least i think) batch monitor was in the applications folder and now its in utilities
    maybe thats the issue?
any ideas i can give him so we can continue to work on some stuff
    thanks

Batch Monitor is meant to be in Utilities, so that is fine.
Try these steps (I assume you are using Compressor 3):

  • Quicktime error -9459

This morning it worked fine, tonight not so good. I am compressing to ProRes Progressive. The batches all fail with that error - quicktime error -9459. Also, applying settings to the jobs in Compressor is very slow. Each setting takes about 5 seconds to appear on the target. Any suggestions? - thanks, Phillip

Okay. I found out the answer on my own. It happens when the display goes to sleep, so if I just turn off the display but have the energy settings set to never put the display to sleep, the problem goes away.
