Batch or Automate audio files

I am trying to take 30 or so recordings of audio (.mp3 or .wav or .aiff) and apply basic compression normalization to each, also exporting each at a uniform .mp3 setting.
I can't find any way to automate this process. Can I do this within Logic Studio anywhere? Isn't there some analog to Compressor for audio? Or can I set that up as a setting in Compressor?
Frustrated and hoping for help,
Matt

No you can't batch process dynamic compression and normalization in Logic (normalization destroys your audio anyway so don't use it...)
So you'll have to do that manually file by file.
As you already know Compressor does batch convert files to the same desired MP3 format with some basic Peak limiting/filtering abilities but it has no dynamic compression feature.

  • Batch processing of audio files?

    Hello,
Is there a way to easily apply a particular process to multiple audio files without having to set it for each file individually?
For example, if I wanted to apply a fade out of a certain length - say 5 ms - to about 80 small audio files...
A friend of mine uses PEAK for sample editing... In PEAK, this can be acheived very easily by turning on the "batch processor", tweaking the settings, and then it applies that process to every file you import until you turn the batch processor off, and since you can import multiple files at once, voilla!
So if there is a way to do this sort of thing in Logic, or any of the other apps that came in Logic Studio, please do share.
    Thanks in advance

Actually, you could use SoundtrackPro, which is bundled with Logic Studio. I didn't try fades but I have a few other AppleScripts that I use for batch processing. What you have to do is to open an audio file, do whatever you need and save that as an AppleScript. After that, all you have to do is to drag your files on the AppleScript icon in the Finder.

  • How-To: Convert audio files to the desired Cisco format (SoX example)

    Greetings,
This week I spent a few hours on converting PCM encoded wave files to CCITT ulaw encoded wave files. You know, the format we all use for UCCX, IP IVR and the like.
I have been searching the interwebs and came across a few suggestions, amongst others:
    o Adobe Audition
    o Audacity
I installed Audition Cs5.5 on my Mac, but it wouldn't let me export CCITT ulaw files.
I also installed Audacity, which would let me export files in the right format, but doesn't support batch conversion of audio files. When you're moving from one voice application to another, this is a huge drawback. For occasional conversion, I would recommend this (graphical) tool.
The solution I have used is the open source software SoX (Sound eXchange) which can be found here: http://sox.sourceforge.net/
It is a cross-platform (Win, Linux, Mac) command line utility that can be use to convert audio files, concatenate them and what not. I just this in conjunction with a perl script I made.
The script is attached, in the hope someone else benefits from it. Should work out of the box on Mac and Linux machines. The script will traverse the $dirname directory (not recursively) and convert what it finds to 8bit, 8kHz, mono, CCITT ulaw format.
By the way, to concatenate files just simply type:
    sox half1.wav half2.wav full.wav
This will concatenate half1.wav and half2.wav and name the resulting file full.wav.
    HTH
P.s: Disclaimer: You might need to edit the script. There is no implied fitness for a particular purpose, YMMV and I shall not be liable for messed up audio files or what not.
    Edit: url added.

    Hi,
welcome to the beautiful world of open source :-) By the way, I have not seen anybody programming in Perl for a long time.
Just one comment: G.711 uLaw is just the half of the story. Remember, UCCX supports either G.711 uLaw or G.729 as well. And since G.729 has license restrictions (costs $10000 per year if I remember that correctly), no free software can incorporate it to its "convert to" list (apart from reading it, which is fine).
A piece of advice: CUCM has got that voice translator service running, which does the job as well. All you have to do is to upload your files, and you'll get at least four formats ready and available, including G.729 - and it can be downloaded easily using TFTP later and used in UCCX.

I have been sampling new imported drum loops. And if I adjust region to song or time strecth it updates the audio file in the library. How to stop this? I lost the original setting to one loop. automatically doing it ??

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Is it possible to batch bounce audio files from markers?

Archiving old DAT tapes, I'm wondering if it's possible to create and even name markers on the fly and later "batch bounce" the whole tape offline to audio files bearing the same name as the markers.
I'm aware that you can split regions & batch bounce them but AFAIK you can't split a region on the fly...
I'm using Logic 9 yet but if what I'm asking is only possible in X I'm ready to take the plunge, it would be a big time saver
    Thank you for any help

BTW is it possible to recover the start IDs from the DAT while recording it in Logic ?

  • Cleaning up batch audio files

Hi, new on this forum here. Any help would be appreciated.
I have over 1000 audio files in mp3 format at 96 bit. The audio files are normalized at 95.7. These files are preaching sermons at about 2 hours in length a piece (by the same person). They were recorded through the 1950s to the 1960s. The earlier ones were poor in quality while the later ones became pretty good. I would like to set the bass and treble equalization on all of the files to a decent level, and then take out some of the background noise in the earlier ones.
How would I go about doing this? Is it even possible?
    Thanks,
    Andrew Carter

As a listener, I wouldn't expect a sermon recorded almost 60 years ago to have pristine audio characteristics. With that, like a jazz song from the 20s or 30s, I'd be more concerned with content and would ignore hums and clicks.
Since they are going to be poor audio quality anyway, you aren't going to lose much if you open them, process, and resave as an MP3. Yes you will lose quality, but since they're compromised already, how much worse are you going to make it? What you can't do - in my opinion - is process them with a batch file. What you are trying to do is far to program content (ie sound quality) dependant.
What I would do is open the files one by one. Apply Noise Reduction after capturing the appropriate noise floor. Parametric EQ, mostly the hi and lo shelf for a little brightening, then Dynamics Processing to compress the dyamic range a bit to let it be more audible on the soft passages. Save the files as mono MP3's to save space and stream easier. The sermons from my church recordings are 44.1/48kbs mono MP3 files and they sound OK for what they are ... they serve the purpose they were intended for.
The EQ and possibly the dyanamics could be done via script (dyanmics only as the source files have already been normalized). Noise reduction should not be done by script, as I think it works best by capturing individual noise floors per file.

  • Batch command not closing files automatically

    Hi,
    Photoshop CS6
    Windows 7
How do you make Photoshop automatically save and close a batch of raw files during batch runs?
I'm just now trying the File>Automate>Batch command. I want to run an action on a bunch of .NEF raw files.
How do you get rid of all the dialogs and just make the thing do the action? i.e., just OpenTheRawFile>RunTheAction>SaveAndClose>DoTheNextFile
First it opened them all up one by one in Camera Raw and the ACR window stayed open until I clicked Open Image. So I checked Suppress File Open Options Dialog in the Batch command. That fixed that problem. But Batch left all the files open in Photoshop, didn't close any of them.
So I went back into my action and added a file close. While recording the action I clicked Yes to save changes before closing the file.
However, the batch now pops up that same dialog box after each file asking me if I want to save the file before exiting. This defeats the whole purpose of the Batch command.

Do not use Batch, use one of the available Image Processor scripts instead.  If your RAW files have been converted before and have associated ACR setting, The RAW files will be converted  using these settings by ACR and ACR will bypass displaying its dialog. If the RAW files have no associated ACR settings the Image Processor scripts have an option that you can use to have the Image Processor open the first RAW file via ACR  where ACR will open its dialog. The settings you set will be used to convert all the RAW files processed in the current run of the Image Processor.
Image Processor Pro is available on the web for downloading and is more flexible and powerful then the Image Processor that is shipped with Photoshop. You can set it up to save as many Image File for each file processed. The size and File Type you need.
You can have the Image Processor Pro include in its process an action you create for file that are saved. It can be the same action or different action for each of the file save you set up.

  • Batch Extract Audio Files from .m4a videos

I saw something about using Terminal to extract audio files from a batch of quicktime movies, but I'm not sure where it was. Anyway, is there a way besides doing each manually? There are quite a few of them. I know my way around Terminal fairly well if necessary.

Okay, I kind of solved it (drag and drop, click, drag and drop, click, etc...) by using ffmpegX, which puts each file into a queue and goes through and converts them all. Still, it would be cool if there was a way to do it all in a single batch because if you drop a batch into ffmpegX, it only does the first one.

  • FILES IN BOUNCES FOLDER IS  AUTOMATICALLY MOVED TO AUDIO FILES

EVERYTIME I QUIT LOGIC 8, ALL THE FILES IN MY BOUNCES FOLDER IS AUTOMATICALLY MOVED TO AUDIO FILES FOLDER. THIS DO NOT HAPPEN WHEN I'M USING LOGIC 7. WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM?IT'S A LITTLE BIT CONFUSING....WHEN YOU SAY BOUNCE, IT SHOULD BE IN THE BOUNCES FOLDER. I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHILE YOU'RE STILL WORKING ON A PROJECT, YOU'LL STILL SEE THE FILES THAT YOU BOUNCED IN THE BOUNCES FOLDER. BUT WHEN YOU QUIT, MY BOUNCES FOLDER WILL BE EMPTY. IS THIS A BUG OR DO I HAVE TO ADJUST SOMETHING IN THE PREFERENCE OR SETTING?

Just another annoying, useless change from the way it's been up till now, AFAIC. In L6/7, bounces went and stayed in the bounces folder. Why is Logic taking it upon itself to move your files to a place other than the one you specified? I agree with Mr. ShoutMyHeadOff, put it back the way it was. And Jay, sorry to take issue with you twice in 3 days, but it's not the expected behaviour at all. Ever since bouncing was included in Logic, bounces have gone in the bounces folder (seems pretty logical) and stayed there unless you choose to move them. I have years upon years of projects where, if i want to find the final mixes or any rough mix i did at any point during the project, i look in the bounces folder - it was really simple. Now all those files get thrown in and mixed up with every other audio file? Tell me, who exactly does that benefit?

  • Batch AC3 encoding from MP2 or MPA audio files

    Hello all!
I've been using bbDemux and mpgtx Demuxer to demultiplex my MPG-2 files captured with Telestream.
The result is an .m2v file (video stream) and an .mpa (audio stream from bbDemux) or .mp2 (audio stream from mpgtx).
When I put the .mpa or .mp2 files into Compressor 2 and try to convert them to .ac3 with the "Dolby 2.0" preset, I get an .ac3 file that contains no audio.
(I am checking to see whether or not it has audio by dragging it to an audio channel in DVDSP4).
In the past, before Compressor 2 came out, I would convert these .mpa or .mp2 files to .aif with Cleaner before converting to .ac3 with A-Pack.
Does anyone here know why Compressor 2 can't convert the MPEG-audio files to .ac3? It would save me a lot of valuable time to be able to do this!
Thanks in advance for any help or advice --

i set compressor to no compression and complete main. is there something i'm missing.
Try adjusting the Dialog Normalization setting to -31.
Setting it to -31 effectively negates the feature and maintains your previous audio level.
And, yes, volume getting reduced is a normal thing when compressing .ac3 (so long as Dialog Normalization is on).

  • I have an audio file that plays automatically and I can't control it other than reduce the volume.  How do I turn it off?

I have picked up an audio file that I can't control other than reduce the volume.  I don't know how to turn it off and it plays over any other audio.

Is this an Apple installed audio clip?
Have you checked to see if all of your browsers doesn't have a web page that is opened that has the audio? (Best thing is to quit all of your browsers to get that out of the way.) If it goes away, then find out which browser (if multiple), and then figure out what page or just close it if you wish.
Once you get the browsers out of the way and the audio is still playing. Then quit other programs.

  • Files converted automatically to Mp3 instead of mpeg when burned as audio files

Cannot maintain mpeg music playlist files when burning using audio file burn mode

They will be compressed to MP3 when published. It is always better to have an uncompressed file to start with, easier also to edit with audio software (Audition, Audacity) without quality loss. Be sure that it will be reduced largely when published. And please, don't shout.... why those big fonts?

  • How to convert audio files with caf extension to wav

    Hi all!
I have some audio files with .caf extension that I need to convert to wav. How can I do that?
    Any batch audio converter around?
    Thanks!

Try "Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro" on the Mac App Store.
    According to an app description,
"The Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro automatically converts Apple Loops installed with Logic Pro 9 and X to uncompressed audio formats (aiff and wave).
With the Easy CAF Converter for Logic Pro, musicians using other major DAWs (e.g., Cubase, ProTools, Ableton Live, and Studio One, etc.) can now easily use the rich set of apple loops of Logic Pro in their music productions."

  • Extract Audio Files

Once you have split a large file into many regions. How do you save all regions in a track as separate files?
Logic 9 manual - p609 - Using Strip Silence to Extract Audio Files from a Disc
"...Strip Silence can be used to split these into individual regions, which
can be used directly in the Arrange area. Regions can also be converted into individual
    audio files (samples),…"

Use the copy/convert function from the Audio Bin to batch resave all regions. In the Arrange you can press control+f to open the copy/convert function (that was the default key command on my version but you can assign any other KC to it). The region will be converted to a new file and the new file will be imported automatically substituting the original region even preserving the fades you have applied to it (but not saving the fades with the new file, if you want that, use the Bounce function).

  • How can I see previously stored tunes no longer on my computer? Where are iCloud audio files?

Maybe my question has an answer too "obvious" for me to see it.  But lately I've become aware of tunes that, for one reason or another, are not showing in my iMac's iTunes program. I went to System Preferences and clicked on "iCloud."  Immediately, I saw how to check iCloud for the following files and documents: Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Safari (not sure what this category could be for--seeing what was on the web at some prior point in history?), Photo Stream, Documents & Data, Back to My Mac, Find My Mac.
In other words, going to iCloud appears to reveal categories for all of your iCloud content EXCEPT your music files.  I know about iTunes Match, and I think I like it, now that I've gotten used to a few of its quirks.  But certainly there are times when the owner of downloaded, commercial audio files (i.e. Tunes) will not have them on his computer.  And certainly there must be a way for me to see what I've previously stored in the Cloud--if only to remind myself of the music I've purchased and have available to me.
I may be missing something about the whole iCloud concept.  Is there a way for me to see tunes I've previously stored in the iCloud but no longer have on my computer?  (I'm always careful not to delete tunes from my iTunes program unless I see 2 or more identical files appearing on my computer).
Thanks for any directions to the iCloud musical holdings / archives--or clarification of any misunderstandings.
    Cap
(I see that I'm currently running OS 10.8.2.  I have only 500 gigs of memory, and my music collection is so larg, I'm almost dependent on being able to access songs in the iCloud.  Next time, I'll certainly pony up for the largest memory Apple offers on an iMac.)

They are not showing up in Lightroom at all. I already deleted them.
When I try to import them again into Lightroom it wants to add another 2012 folder to wherever I am trying to insert them and then it does the month/day folder when it already has the month folder it should automatically go into and not be adding a seperate 2012 folder first.
I can't even get it to do the above right now. Now all it does is it wants to make this seperate 2012 folder with the month/day folders but has little boxes beside each folder showing that there are no images to import. The images do show up on the import screen but they are all darkened and unchecked. When I click the proper folder to import them they come on bright and have little boxes checked, but that lasts for less than a second before it decides they are not new. They are new images, I deleted them all out of Lightroom, and probably missed deleting some through Lightroom but instead deleted them straight from the folder outside of Lightroom. This is what is probably causing me such grief and I have found nothing in my searches to tell me how to correct this. *sigh*
