Batch placing images with filename as an editable caption?

Howdy! Does anyone know if there is an easy way to place about 300 screenshots into ID CC on a multi-page document (obviously) AND capture each filename associated with the image as a text frame above it (or close to it)? I named my files as reminders for the copy I need to write to describe the screenshot and - boy - would this help a lot to avoid back and forth to refer to file names. I need to edit the copy associated with each image, which is why I need the text (filename) in a text frame. The file names are long. I know - not an ideal way to name files, but I had to do screenshots on the fly on someone else's computer and it's what popped into my head at the time. Thank you kindly!

You're in luck. You can use the Object > Captions > Caption Setup to pick Name as the metadata. Then when you place the file turn on Import Options and check Create Static Captions.
You also can create dynamic captions which pull other metadata from the images but it doesn't sound like that's what you need.

Placed images with mini bridge

multiple image layouts where images are placed with mini bridge are not editable until the layout is saved, well still not, save and reopen and the images are not placed in the layout. deleated ps6 today, reinstalled, updated, purchased cc for ps.... still not working

I just tried this with a new document in CC, and I had no problem opening and editing the placed Smart Object in the unsaved document. If you place a jpg or other file that does not allow layers, and try to add a layer, it will save psb file and you will lose any editing, as the jpg will still be embedded. You either need to place psd files, or once you make some edits, use the smart object replace content to replace the jpg with the psd or psb file.

Placing Images with CS2

Hello:
I really hope someone can help me with this. I am using photoshop to create a banner and am having an issue. When I open a new document in photoshop, then use the "place" feature in File to insert a photo from my computer, it distorts the color properties of the photo upon insertion. It doesn't seem to matter where the photo came from or whether it's a .png file or a .jpg file, it does the same thing everytime. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this keeps happening? Could it be my settings?

As far as the image being profiled or unprofiled...I'm clueless, sorry. Regarding the Color Settings, I hope this is what you're looking for. I went into the Edit menu and chose 'color settings'. This is what it gave me:

Batch processing images with different dimensions

I've been trying to do this for a while and I'm stumped, so I'd like to know if it's even possible. I'm trying to fathom out how to create an action which…
Takes a jpg
draws a shape
masks the image
adds another shape
So I can batch process a ton of images.
I managed to do something like what I'm after but the thing I'm having trouble with is that the original images will have different dimensions.
I have attached (via link) an example image which would be the original (start.jpg), one which would be the desired end result (done.jpg) and the .psd
IF there needs to be a step in the middle of the action where I need to intervene and resize the flat image slightly to fit the canvas it'll still save a load of time.
I know that opening and saving will be taken care of using the batch feature and the result only needs to be a jpg.
Any input will be welcomed!

That's an interesting action, but I thought the expected output was different than what this action produces. First, I didn't think image cropping would have been ok (maybe the OP expects this or is ok with cropping). Secondly, I kept getting caught up in how the right edge was going to actually be skewed (as decreasing in size perspectively off into the distance). This action appears to just visually trick the eye (again which may be what the OP wanted or is ok with). Like I said, just that aspect alone is where I kept getting stuck in how this would be possible without some manual manipulation.
If you take this image http://www.shan-dysigns.com/userForums/photoshop/stripes.jpg and perform this action, you will see how the right side doesn't actually get skewed (as I thought was part of the visual effect wanted). Still, this action is quite nice.

Batch processing images with histogram info

I am using photoshop 7; I would like to know if I can batch process a group
of images and generate the Histogram info of the images in a different directory then the images. I have tried to make a action to do this
procedure but with little success. When I run the automate script all that I get is the histogram info of the first image. Is there a process for doing this or am I trying achieve something that can not be done. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi!
I've done some applescripting with Indesign but scripting photoshop is new to me.
Problem:
Thousands of grayscale images in a folder. Some of them are not adjusted for print so i need to find images that has light values below 5% an dark values above 95% and move those images to another folder for later processing.
Also some of the images are too wide or too high so those should be moved to another folder for later use.
Can this be done with applescripting Photoshop or is there some other ways (application?)to do it?
Any ideas?

What kind of file types do you have? AppleScript has access to SIPS via 'Image Events' a GUI-less app this can check some attributes of files without you opening them (no .eps though). For your below 5% above 95% the only method I can think of at the moment would be to open in Photoshop and read the first and last 12-ish items of the histogram. Something like this would tell you if you have pixels in those ranges. Assuming an open grayscale image.

How to batch rename images with YYYMMDD-City-State, type of format

I want to change the names of my files to YYYMMDD-City-State, type of format.. I tried using the file naming template but all that show on the photos is the date.file extension. What am I doing wrong

You need one other file name specification - such as original file number - because each file name needs to be unique, and the format Date-City-State alone doesn't create unique file names.
In the Library Module go >Library >Rename photo, and in the box that comes up click on the small triangle on the right of the field. This will bring up the file name editor.
In the file name editor you have to select four specifications for the file name. See screen shot:
Click <Done> and save the preset.

[JS][CS5/6] XML image href filename character encoding?

I've got an XML file that I'm importing with an XSLT transformation and one of the items transformed is to create an image element using the value in the name element like so

This works great for name elements with text values like Androgen Receptor but for name elements with text values like d'Annexin where characters like ' are used INDD cannot find the image when I place the XML on the page.
In the structure pane the href text looks accurate and the file does exist with the special characters in the location shown.
Is this an encoding issue? Is there something I can do in XSLT, INDD, or JS so that even images with filenames that use special characters place correctly? I'm working on both mac and PC (not sure if encoding would be unique to the platform).
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You probably want to pass the filename through a url encoder, such as the global JS encodeURI() function. A normal apostrophe (U0027) shouldn't need to be encoded, but a right single quote (U2019) will. I don't think XSLT 1.0, which InDesign uses, has a built-in function to do it, but I bet someone out there has built a named template for XSLT 1.0 that you could pass the value through.

Opening an exiting image with PS CS6

If your display driver does not properly support Photoshop's acceleration (clearly so), and you can't find a display driver update to correct the problem, then there are things you should do:
1. In Photoshop, go into your Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog, click the [Advanced Settings] button, and try a lower mode. Restart Photoshop afterward to test. In the worst case scenario, where even Basic mode doesn't work, try turning off the [ ] Use Graphics Processor setting entirely.
2. Petition your laptop maker to update their supported drivers from the latest supplied by the display adapter maker, as they have generally all released newer versions of display drivers that work with Photoshop CS6.

Bridge CS4 won't output to pdf multiple images with same filename

Hiya...my googling efforts have thus far failed!
I've got CS4, and in Bridge, I created a New Smart Collection to find all filenames in a folder containing "." or ".jpg" - which in turn searched through all the subfolders like what you used to be able to do in Photoshop CS3. Very simple stuff, but all the images are jpg's, but in multiple folders (I don't want to move them out of the folders, as the files came from an external source, and there are heaps of folders, and I don't want to pdf each subfolder seperately as it will take forever).
The problem is that some of the files have the same filenames (again I'd prefer not to rename, as it happens a lot on this project, and they are all over the place). So whilst Bridge will show the thumbnail images correctly in the content tabbed screen in my New Smart Collection, but once I've done the Output to PDF thing, for example, instead of showing both different images it has pdf only the first image but repeated it twice. And this happens multiple times throughout the pdf, the more times the same filename is used, the more times the first image gets repeated.
I know that it is messy to have multiple similar filenames, but why can't bridge just place the image anyway? It allocated a space for it on the pdf and does show it in bridge, it just doesn't seem to survive the transfer to pdf well.
The only other thing that I have done is use the below link (which was posted on another adobe forum thread) to create a custom pdf output template (nothing too fancy, just number of rows / columns, size, font etc). But I've tried using the standard bridge templates and it does the same thing.

Just to let you know that I seem to have resolved the bug inadvertently with one of the Adobe updates. The below is the link for the AdobeOutputModule-2.1-mul-AdobeUpdate.zip which was released on 2/19/2009 - which allows for headers & footers to be placed in the Ouput pdf. I finally installed it today, and everything seems to be working fine now (i.e. I can pdf multiple images with the same filenames and the pdf will actually show each different image rather than repeating only 1 of the images).
Must have been a fix installed in the contact sheet templates that get installed with the update - not sure why the original version was corrupted, but I've left that with the Adobe guys (I submitted a bug report - and they were able to replicate the problem but hadn't fixed it as yet).

When I click import from disc I am asked to choose a disc and then I get this message:
The following photos will not be imported because they are already present in the catalog. To see these photos in the catalog select 'Show in Library' (the import will be canceled).
This is followed by a long list of images. If I click 'Show in Library' I can see all the images with the same filename. And then they start to automatically write over those images with images from the disc. However they keep the same metadata and keywords from the previous images. If I click on Import and deselect the "don't reimport suspected duplicates" box, it imports only the images that don't share filenames and none of the images that do.
Is there a way of setting the "Don't reimport suspected duplicates" box in preferences?

How do I save an image with an incremented filename?

I am new to LabVIEW and am working on acquiring and saving many 12 bit images. So far I have a File Dialog box to allow me to select the path to save the file. After I select the path, how can I make each image acquisition filename after that increment by an integer and save automatically (i.e. image1, image2, image3, etc)?

The error case should only run if there has been an error. I've attached a demo program (LV v7.1.1). Put it into the same folder as the "Generate Next Filename" vi and run it or watch it run. If you don't change it any before running it, the first time it is run it will create a subfolder in the folder containing the VI and then add 10 sequentially-numbered text files to it. The next time it is run, it will add the next ten files in the sequence and so on.
