Batch process background color either side of artwork image

I need to batch process the background color from several galleries from white to gray.
On this page - Simon Toparovsky - A Letter from The Renaissance - some of the images in the gallery have a white background on the left and right side of the artwork.  There are hundreds of images that I need to apply this to.
Thanking you in advance for any insight into the process.

    Hello,
Check system log and also check work process trace, to know the error.
I feel that it could be Authorization issue, you don't have sufficient authorization to do.
    Hope this helps.

There is a major color shift in my artwork image from the photoshop jpeg to dreamweaver - it gets 'grayed out', loses color contrast. I checked in Bridge and the color settings are synchronized. The image in photoshop is just like what i get from my Nikon D90 camera. The  grayed out image has also been noted by two of my professional printer co. which i use but one of my printers - Modern Postcard - the images in photoshop are perfect. I just need to know what causes the color shift and how to control/manage it, thank you, Kathyrn

I have noted color shifts as well and have come to a few observations.
When you are making a .JPG file and you are trying to make a color in that file be the same color as your website's background, you're going to get a lot of failures. Photoshop will add color information in an ICC file in the meta information in the file if you like. That tends to produce actual colors, but they do not fit a web gamut.
The way I generally deal with images that need high quality is that I use the Save for Web and Other Devices exclusively, either ticking on or off the ICC profile for JPEG files and working with what works best. Saving a JPEG with as much information as is possible is usually the best choice but, since JPEG is a "lossy" compression scheme, you are always going to get some issues.
Additionally, the web browser in question will have control over what is displayed as well.
So try playing with the ICC profile in Photoshop's Save for Web And Other Devices and see if you can't get things a little more reliable.

  • Changing background colour either side of 4:3 image on a 16:9 screen

    Hi there,
I am using iDVD 6, and have a showreel made up of various formats of video. I have decided to make all my clips 4:3, letterboxing when the original image was widescreen, full frame for an original 4:3.
I know it will be watched on a widescreen, so I want to make the the DVD in widescreen, to take advantage of the extra acreage for menus and so on. But when it comes to playing the showreel, even though the 4:3 reel is correctly at the centre of the screen, the vertical bars on either side are grey. This is very distracting. It would help enormously if I can make these black, to match the top and bottom bars of the letterbox images.
    I hope this is clear.
I am using the reflection white theme, and very lovely it is too.
    Thanks - Nigel

I'm replying to my own question, as I think I've solved it, or found my problem.
In iDVD, playing back your project in preview mode gives you the grey side bars if you have a 4:3 image. But burning it to a desktop image, and playing the DVD treated a 4:3 image properly, clicking over to 4:3, and leaving either side black. I'm guessing that when I burn my DVD there will be no problem.
Hope that helps anyone who gets in the same position.

  • 3D color onto Sides of Complex images. (How to plz)

How would I extend the following image into 3D so that the color gradients of the individual sides are the same as the faces.. bearing ni mind each face is not a single colour but a gradient.
    Thank you

In PS you would have to extrude each shape individually and assign it a material. Otehr than Repoussé's built-in texture coordinate generation, PS has no way of creating explicit mappings. And one wouldn't do it this way in a 3D program, anyway. The approach is just not the most ideal.

  • Browser Background Color Not Drawing Completely

On the web page I recently uploaded, the page does not draw the browser background color completely when it loads. The browser background color fills in to the bottom of the sized page, below there it is white.
    1. Modern Frame 2.0 - Blank
    2. Set Browser Background color to Blue
    3. Page background color either the same Blue or none at all. I've tested both ways.
    4. Manual resize always allows the browser background color to fill in properly.
    5. Footer on and off. Doesn't make a difference.
After uploading to the web, clearing all my caches, it continues to fill in incompletely.
What do you suggest I do to solve this?
    Thank you - Fabe

Give us the URL for the site so we can examine it first hand. With out looking at the site you should change the theme to White theme which does not use files for background and therefore will not restrict the amount of space the background takes up. That's just a guess though.

  • I cannot see the background color and borders when exporting

I created a 10 page document with a background color and borders around the images (I am usiong InDesign 5.5), when I export it to PDF I only see white pages with my images, what am I doing wrong?

I suspected as much. [Paper] is the absence of ink -- it means don't put anything here and let the paper stock show through and in the PDF it is essentially transparent ( the PDF only shows a white background to keep you from seeing the insides of the monitor -- well not really, but Acrobat doesn't dispaly transparency with grid the way Photshop does). The ability to edit the swatch is a convenience to make it easier for you to visualize what your design will look like on colored stock.
If you want a colored background you either need to print on colored stock, or you need to print the color in the background by creating a frame and filling it with the color of your choice. I doubt you will be printing on a dark brown, especially since there are areas of white in your design, and the only way you get white is by leaving the paper blank iin those areas, or using an opaque white ink, which is bothexpensive and not very practical in photos, especially over a dark color.

  • Request a Servlet from a batch process

    Hi all.
I have a batch process in the client side that uploads files to the server. I want that this process to be automatically, so this process call to a Servlet in the server side to do the file upload automatically. Can I make the request manualy from the client to the Servlet that uploads the file (without client form)?

We can do it using java.net.HttpURLConnection class.

  • Batch process to Tiff Image

I have several hundreds of psd documents every now and then and I need to print them out to black&white TIFF format. Is there a way that I can do an automation in FW CS4? I know how to get them into greyscale from Bridge but I am looking for Black&White Tiff image. is there a script that I can use? I haven't got to scripting experience yet. Can you help? I really appreciate your helps.

Just so we're clear, Fireworks is a screen graphics application and it may not be particularly efficient if you try to batch process a huge number of high resolution images.
That said, you can probably create a custom command to do what you want, and it doesn't require programming knowledge. FW already has batch commands for resizing, renaming and exporting files, so the only piece you need to add to the puzzle is sharpening.
Open a file in Fireworks. Using ONLY key commands, apply the unsharp mask filter. TAB through the input fields rather than using your mouse. Fireworks records keyboard commands, but not options selected with the mouse.
When you have the sharpening you want, tab to the OK button and press enter on the keyboard.
Open the History panel (Window > History)
Select the Filter Image step and click on the disc icon at the bottom right of the panel. This lets you save the shrapening as a custom command. It will appear at the bottom of your Commands menu in FW.
    Now go back to Bridge
    Select your images
Choose Tools > FIreworks > Batch Process
Your images will appear in included files window at the bottom of the Batch wizard
    Click next
From the Batch options pane, add the processes you want:Scale, Export and fromthe Commands section choose Convert to Greyscale and your unsharp mask custom command.
From the Include in Batch pane, set the order of the process to Convert to Greyscale, Scale, Unsharp Mask and export. Select the Scale command and change the settings as desired at the the bottom of the wizard window,
Select the Export command, choose custom from the settings area and then click the edit button so you can choose TIFF. When you've adjusted the settings to your liking, click OK (You willnot see an image preview when you alter these settings).
Click Next and choose to export the files to a custom location, so  you do not overwrite your existing files.
If you like, choose the Save Script button to save the entire process as a custom batch command.
Click the Batch button, and go have lunch. ;-)

  • How to reduce file size when using batch processing?

I use File > Process Multiple Files to batch process photos to a smaller file size along with adding my watermark.  I've played with many different settings and no matter what I choose, I can't get my average file size to be less than about 200k.  However, when I've exported the same photos using iPhoto, I can get the file size to about half of that with no difference (to my naked eye at least) in quality.
I definitely want to keep the height at 768 pixels so that needs to stay constant.
My current settings in batch processing (average file size = 200 kb)
Resize images with a height constraint of 768 pixels at 150dpi
    What I've tried:
Resize at 72dpi (reduced file size by about 5kb)
convert file to JPEG low quality (reduced file size by about 10kb)
convert file to JPEG medium quality (not much difference in file size)
I'm using PSE 10 on a Mac running Lion.
Thank you in advance for your help!

You should go with default settings of Optimizer.
One difference between default settings of Optimizer and Reduce file size is that Optimizer does not guarantee a reduction in file size (if your Optimizer settings lead to an increase in file size, that's what you will get).
With Acrobat 9, the default setting in Optimizer has an additional setting which would not do an image optimization that results in increase of file size. In that sense it would in most cases give a smaller file.

  • Lens profiles and batch processing

Can you enable the lens profile settings for more than one image at a time? If multiple images were imported and the same lens was used for all of them can you batch process them without having to do one image at a time?

If you enable lens profile settings, and then make that part of your default camera settings, lens profiles will be applied when images are imported into Lightroom even if different lenses were used. Of course, that assumes that you have profiles for those lenses and for the file format of the image.
But, to answer your question directly, yes.  And, whenever lens profiles are enabled Lightroom will find the profile for the appropriate lens.

  • Black lines on either side of images in FCP Canvas

I'm posting this in the QuickTime forum because this happened since installing QT 7.1.
I use an app called Photo to Movie to do slow pans and zooms across still images rather than use the features within FCP, because it creates a nice smooth ripple free transition.
It is set up to create a five second 720x480 movie which I import into FCP.
Everything was going swimmingly until I installed QT 7.1 and now there's a 4 or 5 pixel black bar on either side of the image. It's also producing 640x480 movies for some reason.
Strange thing is that when I view the movie within QuickTime it looks fine, but when viewing the preview version in the Finder and also the Canvas in FCP the bands appear.
I reported the bug to the folks who make Photo to Movie, LQ Graphics, but also thought I'd report it here seeing as it's definitely a 7.1 issue.
BTW don't bother asking what version of this and that I have, everything is the latest.

Not answered, but none forthcoming either so closing this one out.

  • Better use for Fireworks CS6, other than animated gifs and batch process?

I started using fireworks in the much earlier days of web design back in 2000. Now with Illustrator and Photoshop being the law of the land, fireworks has begun to fade and take a back seat.  Primarily right now i use fireworks just for creating animated gifs and batch process if i have a bunch of images that i would like to re-export or format to my liking.  Does anyone have any other better uses for this program?  detPhx
I am just looking to utilize this more, since i install it.

For the web, exported PNG compression is better in FW than PS.
CS6 FW can now generate code  for CSS3 borders, gradients, Sprites, etc...
FW can be used for jQuery Mobile Theme skinning
    http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-fireworks-cs6/
I still use AI for vector graphics & PS for photo & image manipulation, but FW has some nice features for web designers.

  • Setting the fg/bg color of a 1 bit image

Is there a simple way to set the foreground and background colors of a one bit image? What I need to do is draw a bitmap on a Canvas component where all black pixels in the loaded (gif) Image paint as my custom foreground color and all white pixels paint as my custom background color. I'm thinking maybe something like drawing a filled rectangle using the bitmap as a mask?? I am porting code from Windows, and this is something that is kind of built in to MFC.
Currently I have this working in Windows running Java 1.4.0, but it wont work on a Macintosh running Java 1.1 (or 1.2?). I'm wondering if I stumbled upon a quirk that only works in Windows?
This is the code from my Canvas object paint() method:
    g.drawImage(bitmapUp, 0, 0, getForeground(), this);
    g.setXORMode(getForeground());
    g.drawImage(bitmapUp, 0, 0, getBackground(), this);
'bitmapUp' is a one color gif image with transparency. Basically anything that is not transparent gets filled with my foreground color. It seems like this is not the best way to go about things (even if it worked on all platforms).
Test it here if you want:
