Batch process not playing actions or saving

I'm having trouble with batch processing on the PC at work.
When using batch processing on my trusty but ancient Mac at home, one file opens, the action plays, and the file is saved and closed before the next file is opened. This is how I perceive batch processing is supposed to work.
But for some reason, any attempt to do a batch process of any kind on the PC at work just opens all the files, then stops. No Actions are performed and nothing gets saved. It doesn't matter if "override action save as" is checked or not, and it doesn't matter what action I attempt to use for the batch. Creating a droplet does the same thing when files are dropped on the droplet.
The office IT staff are decidedly unhelpful on this one. They know the OS and network, but little about the Adobe software. We're running Photoshop CS3 under Windows 7. This problem is slowing me down significantly on large jobs. It's especially frustrating because I know it should work, but it won't.
Help?
-Matt

There you are, along with the details of one of my more frequently-used Actions. If I can get batches to work, I'll make a couple of Actions specifically for the batches that play a bunch of my other Actions.

  • Batch Processing with an Action

    Hello everyone,
    I created an Action within Photoshop CS5.  I saved this action to an .atn file which then I loaded into the CORRECT directory for PSE 10.
    Once in PSE I can go to Actions and I can see and properly use said Action.  So I know it works.
    My question/problem:  Is it possible to Batch process using "Process multiple files" or something else using this Action?  I know is CS5 the option is there and it is fairly straight forward, however I did not see this option anywhere within PSE.
    I am hopeful that I'm missing something or there is just some trick that I don't know about.
    I appreciate any help that is provided.  Thanks in advance.

    You would need to open the BatchWin,atn file located in (this is for win 7 and vista x64) into cs5 (these are just actions that elements uses for process multiple files)
    (be sure to put a copy of the original file somewhere in case you ever need it)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\en_US\Support Files
    Then add your action to the list, without any open steps in the action and you'll have to add the save step at the end of the action (the format you want to save the files in).
    Then save the action set and put it back into Support Files Folder.

  • Batch processing of different actions

    Hello everybody,
    I'm sorry if such a thread is already existing, but I used the search and coudln't find one. So here is my question:
    I have printed a form letter with 600 copies from MS Word 2007 in a single PDF-Document, thus the document consists of 1200 pages. Now I want to split the document in 600 single documents, but please not by hand. I tried to create a batch job but I failed ;)
    Does anyone know how I could do that with Acrobat 8 on the one hand or just print 600 single pdf-documents with Word in the first place?
    Thanks for your time!

    I try creating the meta-action package and got a an error message when running the meta-action using the Batch dialog.
    In my workflow I must use Layer 0 instead of the Background layer. This is probably the source of this error.
    The next approach would be to use a script with the doAction() method.
    The complicated part is assigning the a folder of images  to the script to do batch processing.

  • Running multiple actions in a batch process

    On Adobe's site in the help section, on actions, it states:
    To batch-process using multiple actions, create a new action, and record the Batch command for each action you want to use. This technique also lets you process multiple folders in a single batch. To batch-process multiple folders, create aliases within a folder to the other folders you want to process.
    I have tried to follow these directions, but for some reason, I'm not able to record the batch command. When I create an action and start recording, the batch command is blanked out. I can insert using Insert Menu Item, but it still does not work.
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks

    You should ask in the Photoshop forum.

  • Question about Batch processes in CS4

    Hello everyone,
    I was hoping there's a solution to my problem. My laptop's MoBo died recently so I wil be retrieving data from my HDD via another laptop. I created a Batch process in CS4 to resize and perform a few more actions on pictures. I was hoping to save that Batch process without having to recreate it. Are batch processes made by the user saved in a particular folder that I can just go into and copy?
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    Riley

    Did you save the action as an *.atn file using the context menu of the palette?
    If not, then the action is only "present" in one of the preferences files, together with all the other preferences.
    You can try to copy the preferences files, but I don't know whether the action will "come to life".
    Of course it must be the same version of photoshop on your other PC.

  • Need help with batch processing picture packages

    Hi, I am having trouble batch processing picture packages is CS2.  (Windows).
    I have hundreds of images that need to be processed into picture packages and would love to find a speedier way to do this.
    I know how to create an action.  I know how to batch process from this action.  I also know how to create picture packages, but I cannot get the final result I am after - please read on....
    I have seperated all the images into their seperate folders for each style of picture package required.
    I can create an action for the picture package required and then do a batch process on the particular folder, but this leaves all the picture packages open on the desktop - as when you chose the close and save in the batch process - this only closes and saves the original image - the picture package has been created as a new document and is on the desktop still open - named Picture Package 1, Picture Package 2 - etc etc.
    I hope I am making some kind of sense here... (??!!)
    What I would like to happen is that the picture package will be saved over the original file (or to a new folder) with the original file name of the original image or maybe even with an adjustment to file name (e.g - orignal file name sc1234.jpeg - new file name sc1234packA.jpeg)
    So is this possible to do??  I'm thinking there must be a way.... i'm sure there are many group photographers out there who come across this everyday??
    Otherwise I have to save each picture package manually to original file name (via searching though files to match the original image to the picture package....) Very time consuming.
    Thanks for your help (in anticipation)...
    Jodie

    hmm - thanks for that - sounds like I will have to try and find some info and assistance regarding the scripting - it may be something I need to look into at a later time in the future....
    At the moment though I will have to plod along with this method I guess!
    Thanks for your assistance...

  • Batch process makes image resolution change to 72dpi - it should be 300dpi - Help!

    In my work I use a batch process to run an action that converts EPS files to TIFF files. I have been using this successfully in Photoshop 7 on a Win2000 PC for a number of years. The process is as follows...
    Open EPS file
    Flatten Image
    Save
    Close
    When I recorded the action I made sure that the resolution was set to 300dpi as we require the TIFF produced at the end to be that resolution.
    I am now testing PSCS3 on a WinXP machine as we are upgrading all of our equipment. When I run the action as a batch process the TIFFs that are saved end up being 72dpi - They should be 300dpi. This worked in PS7 on the Win2000 machine and I am using exactly the same process in PSCS3 on the new WinXP machine, but something must be going wrong somewhere for the TIFFs to be saved at 72dpi instead of the required 300dpi. Any ideas?

    That doesn't seem to work - it doesn't appear to record any changes I make in the 'Image Size' dialog.
    When I look at the actions that I recorded in PS7 there are all the settings that I specified at the 'Open' step, such as 300dpi, greyscale, etc. saved under 'Open', but when I do the same in PSCS3 it doesn't record all the settings, just the actual 'Open' command, so I need to find a way of making PSCS3 remember '300dpi', 'greyscale', etc. within the 'Open' step like it did when I recorded the action using PS7.

  • Acrobat 9 Batch Processing - Get PDF filenames from folder?

    Hello,
    Can anyone provide me with an example with how to use Batch Processing (when set to a specific folder/files) to get a list of filenames in that folder? I haven't been able to find any examples online. There doesn't seem to be any built in batch sequences that automatically do this so I assume it will need to be done with javascript?
    Ultimately, I need to automate a process (I was hoping to create a batch sequence to accomplish this) that will allow me to prompt a user to pick a source folder of PDFs and then based on that selection, run a Javascript that I create which will merge all PDFs in that folder into a new PDF, apply some crop setttings to each page, and then prompt the user where to save the merged PDF?
    Has anyone ever done anything like this? I would love to see an example of how this might be able to be achieved.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Have you tried to create a test batch process (now called Actions)?  Actions in Acrobat 10 has the "merge all files in folder" option, and batch processing in previous versions has always included a page crop commad as well as an option for asking the user where to save the file.

    I am batch processing in PS 2014 (watermark and saving as jpeg from ps file). I get the message for some but not all 'this file needs to be saved as a copy with this option'. And then I have to save it manually. Does anyone know why this happens? (It is just a plain photoshop file, a watermark is added, then save as jpeg - the jpeg is saved to a different folder than the original photoshop file.)  It happens for about 10 of 30/40  files approximately . Thank you, Kathryn

    I believe I have figured it out - I need to flatten the image, even though there are no layers except for layer 0, first.

  • Camera Raw adjustments not applying to batch process

    Hey friends,
    On a 2008 iMac running 10.5.7, latest version of Camera Raw & Bridge/Photoshop, I opened 650 Canon 5D raw files in Camera Raw, made adjustments to most of those files, then clicked Done.
    In Bridge Im batch processing all the files to Jpeg, now in Bridges thumbnails I can see all the adjustments I did in Camera Raw were applied, but yet when I batch process them, no adjustments are being applied, any idea what the issue could be?

    Re: Warning serious issue with ACR edits not updating
    How did you record the Photoshop batch action? Make sure the "Image Setting" item is checked in the setting flyout menu when recording any actions that open raw image if you want each image's setting to be used.
    The preview building process in Bridge has nothing to do whatsoever with the saving of image settings.
    Also, if you are using any PhotoKit product, you need to update to the most recent version.

  • Using actions and batch processing to maximize compatibility on old psd files

    My apologies if this has been answered -- in my search I saw that it was asked multiple times, but not answered.
    My goal is to be able to import 5 years of PSD files into Lightroom that were originally saved with maximize compatibility turned off. These files are in shoot folders within year folders.
    I have been trying to do this with an action and batch processing through Bridge (Tools>PS>Batch). After switching preferences to MC=always, I have tried an action with a Save command, but that doesn't switch the file to max compat on. Save As does, but it also fixes the destination of the save in the action to a specific folder. I want to be able to overwrite the existing PSD file, leaving it where it is.
    Has anyone successfully tackled this issue? I know I can handle it folder by folder, with an action for each folder, but that just wouldn't be cool.
    Thank you

    L Show - Yes, I found a way and did just that.
    Everything as you wrote, using the save-as option. Yes, it will put the folder name into the action BUT it will override it when you run your batch from bridge IF you check in the box "override action save-as command" (and destination: save and close).
    Works like a charm (although slow - not utilizing the multiple cores :( )

  • Creating an Action and then Batch Process

    Need some help creating an action and then batch processing a file using that action. I was able to do it in previous versions of PS (wish I had kept the action!). For some reason its not working. Keeps creating the same file over and over again. Here goes:
    Action:
    Open up a PDF (separate PDFs of a PowerPoint Pres, may contain 80-100 pages); convert to grayscale; reduce to 43.2%; save as a TIF and close file.
    Batch:
    Use this action on all files.
    When I create the action it just recognizes the first file that I use as a sample and saves over the result over and over again.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

    You probably recorded a save as command in it and changed the name of the file. This change is also recorded and after playing the action it just overwrites the same filename over and over again.
    Always leave the filename untouched when recording actions.

  • Resume Batch Process After Action Stop

    I have an action in Photoshop that includes two different stops to allow the user to make adjustments to the image. I would like to run this action on multiple files, but the whole batch process stops when the action stops.
    How can I make Photoshop (and/or bridge) resume processing the remaining images after the user completes the adjustments?

    Mike:
    As you now know, this workflow cannot be automated due to the embedded STOPS:
    * Open an image fle
    * STOP
    - Levels
    - Mask
    * STOP
    - Tweak background
    * Save as .psd
    * Flatten
    * Save as .jpg
    * Close
    * [repeat until all image files processe]
    ...but consider this possibility:
    Open all (or some) candidate image files via Bridge, File > Open, Drag/Drop into PS Window. Then on each:
    * Levels
    * Mask
    * Tweak background
    * Minimize window when done
    * Go onto the next open file
    When all image windows minimized (signfying completion of tweaking), play a new action (e.g., "Save files") that would consist of two Automate > Batch steps:
    * Batch step 1: play [new] action "Save as .psd"
    Source: open images
    - save files in .psd format in a folder of choice
    * Batch step 2: play [new] action "Open .psd, flatten and save as .jpg"
    Source: folder of just saved .psd files
    - flatten each and save in .jpg format in a folder of choice
    Kind of a bass ackwards approach, but once setup was complete it would offer a 1-click solution to batch saving the files in the format and folders desired.

  • Bridge will no longer batch process an old watermarking action that i made it says "place" unavailable in Bridge with cs5, does anyone know why?

    I am using cs5 and in Bridge my action that I have used for 2 years all of the sudden says it is unavailable when I try to use the batch process function in Bridge.  I have run updates, reset bridge and photoshop and shut the computer down.  Please help if you have had this happen to you.

    That is a very common error message actions produce when  for some reason the document current state does not support the command or feature used in the action step that gets the error.  With our seeing a screen capture of the error message and being able to see the document window, the layers palette and the actions palette   Its not possible to tell you why the actions is getting that error message.  Most likely its because of the document current state. For example place is not valid for a bitmap mode document.

  • Saving as jpeg in batch processing

    Hello:
    A "newbie" here.  I have recorded an action to put a watermark on photos.  When I run the batch, instead of it saving the image and going on to the next, it opens the image at the save prompt as a pdf, and i would have to choose jpeg in the drop down and save.  I don't have a save in my action; just the installation of the watermark.  some how the action worked find a few weeks ago; what am i doing wrong now?   I am using CS4 Extended.
    Tks!!

    Thank you!
    Here are my actions:
    Make text layer
    select layer "background"
    align current layer
    align current layer
    Select layer "@myname"
    Set current layer
    What really is disturbing, is this worked just fine a few weeks ago!  I didn't get the images to come up waiting for me to save them, they just automatically went directly into the folder i directed them to in the batch processing.
