Batch rename won't keep the extension on some files only

I have all my shrunk (resized to smaller for web) files in a sub folder. I got the idea here somewhere to rename such files by adding " _sm " this way being able to distinguish from the two when doing a search. In batch renaming something strange happened:some files did not keep their extension. How could this be and why? There was also no undo (Why?) so i decided to rename them once again this time replacing the "_sm" with ".jpg" in order to fool Bridge and place the files back to their original names and extensions.
Anyhow is there a reason why it would not keep the extension on some files while keep it on others? Since it's doing this in batch, therefore processing many files at once there's gotta be a reason why it would not treat all files as equals and I'm thinking that perhaps it has something to do with how I name my files.
Thank you

If you select the opion to preserve the previous file name when batch renaming in Bridge then it's easy to revert… The old name will be stored in the files meta data…
If you have renamed the files again then I think this will have been overwritten… I think the property is name string and NOT array of name strings…

  • After updating Macbook to Yosemite, Adobe Bridge CS5.1 will not batch rename .jpgs without corrupting the files. How can I fix this?

    I have a student who when he tries to batch rename his .jpgs in Adobe Bridge CS5.1, the files will become corrupted and will not be able to open them. The extension is off. How can I correct this for him?

    Wait, I just caught this:

    Are you referring to the 3-letter ".jpg" extension being deleted?  You can't do that, of course!  If that is still the case, you'll have to add it manually to each JPEG file.

  • Firefox will not keep the extensions. I have to keep adding the ext's every time I re-open browser & it never did this before?

    Hi 1st time asking a ?. Like my ? above. I have been using firefox for a long time and never had a problem that's why its my !st time asking a ?'s here. I'm using windows 8.1 Lenovo laptop and this has just started 4 days ago. I shut down firefox and the next day I started laptop and opened firefox and I noticed every extension I had set up were all gone from browser and the get extensions page were all gone in the get more extensions add on page area. So I re added all of them to set up the browser the way I liked for years and it worked OK. Then when I re-started the computer and they were all gone again? Its driving me crazy why this is happening. And I do have the latest firefox. I even uninstalled browser and re add them all Ext's and then on next start up were all gone again.
    And the reason its my 1st time asking a ?'s is because to help others, I am a 56 year old & I'm a 100% disabled army Vet. and I don't know enough about fixing my own computer problems to help any 1 else asking to help them fix any thing.
    OH theres 1 more thing, every time I have to re-install the Ext's and when I turn off laptop and turn back on then re add the Ext's again I noticed in Ccleaner in the firefox tab all of the Ext's that are gone from the browser are all there and I can not delete them either in Ccleaner! Please explain in easy to follow steps how to fix this so I can use firefox again? Thanks for any and all help?

    It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
    Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Profiles
    New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
    If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
    There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
    If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
    Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

  • Using the FilenameFilter interface to get the extension of a file

    Hello...
    I am trying to write a java program which is going to parse multiple xml documents and load them into the db. In a directory, there could be files other than xml files. Hence, i want to parse only files which have an .xml extension. I am using the FilenameFilter interface to get the extension of the files in a particular directory. However i am getting confused with the way it shd work...i am attaching herewith the code ...pl help me. I would appreciate if u could send me some sample code.
    /* Author : Jayashree */
    import com.xhive.XhiveDriverFactory;
    import com.xhive.error.XhiveException;
    import com.xhive.core.interfaces.XhiveTransactionIf;
    import com.xhive.dom.interfaces.XhiveDocumentIf;
    import com.xhive.core.interfaces.XhiveDatabaseIf;
    import com.xhive.core.interfaces.XhiveConnectionIf;
    import com.xhive.dom.interfaces.XhiveLibraryIf;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import java.io.*;
    public class MultiXML
    public static void main(String args[])
    try
    String administratorName = "Administrator";
    String administratorPassword = "secret";
    String DBName = "FirstDB";
    XhiveConnectionIf fConnection = XhiveDriverFactory.getDriver().getConnection();
    System.out.println("Got the connection");
    fConnection.connect(administratorName,administratorPassword,DBName);
    System.out.println("Connected");
    XhiveTransactionIf fTrans = fConnection.createTransaction();
    System.out.println("Transaction");
    fTrans.begin();
    System.out.println("Transaction begun");
    XhiveDatabaseIf fDBase = fTrans.getDatabase();
    String DBName1 = fDBase.getName();
    System.out.println(DBName1);
    XhiveLibraryIf rootLibrary = fDBase.getRoot();
    System.out.println("Got the root");
    File fDir = new File("e:/xhive");
    File[] files = fDir.listFiles(new FileFilter("xml"));
    int i = 0;
    while ((i < files.length))
    Document fDoc = null;
    System.out.println("Document Initialized");
    try
    fDoc = rootLibrary.parseDocument(new File(files[i]+".xml").toURL(), XhiveLibraryIf.PARSER_NO_VALIDATION);
    rootLibrary.appendChild(fDoc);
    System.out.println("Appended");
    catch (Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    i++;
    fTrans.commit();
    System.out.println("Committed");
    fTrans.terminate();
    System.out.println("Terminated");
    fConnection.close();
    System.out.println("Connection Closed");
    catch(Exception e)
    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    In the above code, I am trying to list all those files which have the filter as .xml. I am unable to understand what code i need to write in the accept method of the FilenameFilter interface which accepts the directory name and the file name. There could be a directory which consists of multiple xml files too..this is where i am finding a problem
    Regards,
    Jayashree

    This sample code uses an inner anonymous FilenameFilter that takes all readable files with a ".xml" extension.
    File[] fileList = dir.listFiles (new FilenameFilter () {
        public boolean accept (File dir, String name) {
            if (!name.trim().endsWith (".xml"))
                return false;
            File f = new File (dir, name);
            if (!f.isFile())
                return false;
            if (!f.canRead())
                return false;
            return true;
    });Please post any question if you don't understand.

  • How to get the contentType of some files?

    Hi all,
    I'd like to provide the end-user the ability to download files from the server.
    for this, I have to provide the content type in:
    (HttpServletResponse)
    response.setContentType( ????? );  I wrote the method below, but I realized that I'm still missing files such as CSV or outlook emails.
    Q: is there any generic content type so it will download all files? or do I have to keep this method updated?
    thanks for any pointers
         public static String getContentType(String extension)
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("doc"))
                   return "application/msword";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("xls"))
                   return "application/vnd.ms-excel";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("pdf"))
                   return "application/pdf";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("ppt"))
                   return "application/ppt";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("jpg"))
                   return "image/jpeg";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("gif"))
                   return "image/gif";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("html"))
                   return "text/html";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("htm"))
                   return "text/html";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("rtf"))
                   return "application/rtf";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("zip"))
                   return "application/zip";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("txt"))
                   return "text/plain";
              if (extension.equalsIgnoreCase("bmp"))
                   return "image/x-bitmap";
              return "application/octet-stream";
         }

    URLConnection#guessContentTypeFromName() might be sufficient.

  • Strange character at the end of some file/folder names

    I'm getting a strange character at the end of some of my file and folder names. This is it:  When I enlarge it, it says "private use" on the top and bottom, "E000" on the left side, and "F8FF" on the right side. It acts like a character within the font, but I'm not sure why it's there.
    In case that didn't work, I'm going to try to attach or embed a gif of the character. I'm not sure if it will work or not.
    Also, some longer file names seem to be dleeting some of the letters and are inserting a pound sign and a few numbers (e.g. #34) in place of the letters.
    What's going on?
    As usual, thanks in advance,
    Lloyd

    I thought that might be it...at first. Then I found some file names that were nowhere near 32 characters long whose names were truncated.
    It's not a huge problem, except in QuarkXPress when I collect the files for output and I have to reconnect to the ones whose names have been changed (to protect the innocent, I suppose).
    Thanks for the input mark.

  • Viritual OS won't keep the clock in sync with host?

    Our computer for controlling all doorlocks in one of our main buildings shut down for good just the other day.
    However the software for administration and control of this is so old that it won't run on anything newer than Win 98.
    Problem beeing, that most modern computers are waay to "big" to run Win 98(too much memory, ect..)
    Solution was simple thou, just get a clean install of Win XP with all of the necesarry drivers, and run Win 98 in a Viritual Environment.
    This works all but great, except 1 thing: The clock of the guest OS(98) does not sync with the Host's clock(XP), and runs about 1 sec. slower per minute. That in total would make it 24 minutes slow after a day. Which indeed is a problem with time controlled
    locks.
    The clock on the host's OS is just fine, correct, and doesn't slow at all, but still the guest OS is not in sync.
    Is there any way to force a clock sync from the guest OS to the host every now and then, say, every hour or so?
    Keeping in mind that this system is offline, not connected to internet or any network at all?
    Edit: The clock of the Two OS's are synched at startup of the guest OS, and it's from there the clock's fall out of sync..

    You'd install the VM Additions or Tool for the Windows 98 guest which provide the interface for time sync.
    You don't mention what virtualization solution you're using though.
    Windows 98 is not supported by Windows Virtual PC, if that's what you're using.  You may be able to get the older VPC2004 VM Additions to work with WVPC and allow for time sync.

    In Firefox, the Google translator translates items but before I can see the translation properly, it defaults to blank - what can I do, as it was working before and I think this might have soemthing to do with the dowload of the latest version

    You can check the network.http.* prefs on the about:config page and reset all bold user set network.http prefs to the default value (network.http.proxy.keep-alive should be true) via the right-click context menu > Reset.

  • How do I get itunes to accept my credit card information?  If I enter Mastercard, it won't keep the security code.  If I enter a Visa, it tells me I can't use that card even though that is the card I was using before the Mastercard

    I have updated my account.  I have a Mastercard as my method of payment now after switching from a Visa.  My phone and computer will not retain the security code for this card, so I can't access the store on my devices.  I tried switching back to the Visa card and iTunes tells me I can't use that card

    The card information must exactly match the issuing bank's billing records precisely. Often this is not a discrepancy with the security code, but an address or ZIP code that is not an exact match.
    iTunes Store: My credit card's security code or zip code does not match my bank's records

  • Firefox 3.6.16 won't keep the "custom settings for history", thus causing page-load issues - any clue how to make it "stick"?

    Ever since I updated to Firefox 3.6.x I am getting constant page-load errors on apps in Facebook. I've cleared the history, the cache, cookies... and will literally set it for the "custom history settings" in my tools/options/privacy tab, reload the page, it's fine. I go to another page and come back to the app (same window) and get the error message again. Back to tools/options/privacy and "Remember History" is showing, rather than the custom settings. This is happening incessantly.

    I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

    Hi Scafandri ,
      LEAD SELECTION IS A PROPERTY OF A NODE.  YOU CAN CHECK AND UNCHECK THAT PROPERTY UNDER NODE PROPERTIES.
    OR IF YOU WANT TO SET SELECTED ROW AS LEAD SELECTION THEN USE THE BELOW LINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL
    retreiving the selected row index value
    In onclick  event of alv table,
    first get the index value of selected row  using r_param->get_index( ).
    Then using this value  set lead selection  like below
    lo_nd_itab->set_lead_selection_by_index ( above index value ).
    Then selected row will become the leadselection.

  • Problem with the PUT operation some files won't transfer help please

    Hi everyone,
    I am using DWCS3 on OS X Leoard 10.5 and MAMP
    I am putting together a basic index.html page and then I want to template it. Pretty basic stuff.
    However when I want to view the index.html page in my MAMP testing server, In the middle of the PUT operation I get a message saying;
    File activity incomplete 1 file or folder was not completed.
    index.html - Put operation successful
    - error occurred - An error occurred - cannot put .  An unknown error occurred.

    Files updated: 1
    Files skipped: 8
    Files with errors: 1
    Finished: 23/07/2010 13:30
    I am aware that files are not transferring over to the testing server but I don't understand why or how to fix the problem. I don't think the problem lies with the path from Dreamweaver to the testing server because I have been working on the page and viewing it in the testing server. It's only just started displaying the message above and not passing some of the files over. It will for example pass the index.css page over.
    I have copied the code over for index.html, SpryMenuBar.js, SpryMenuBarHorizontal.ccs and SpryMenuBarVertical.css.
    In the hope that someone will not mind taking a look at this for me.
    Below is the code for my home page in case the problem lies here

    I've only encountered two instances where the PUT operation failed on certain files. One, the server does not like the particular file type, and two, when the file was open in another program.
    Other than that, I could only guess that it may have something else to do with the web server configuration and not DW.
