Batch Resizing within Aperture?

Greetings-
I shoot 400-600 images a day, thus I'm beginning to run out of hard drive space. I don't want to create a new vault of pictures on an external drive. I'm willing to reduce the overall size of my photos in order to create some space on my drive.
I'm at a loss how to batch resize groups of images in Aperture. It was an easy function in iPhoto.

You just perfectly described a Referenced-Masters workflow. It works great for 200k+ images, the Library with its Previews lives on the internal drive and is always accessible. Masters live on external drives. The Library is backed up via Vaults and originals are backed up to redundant locations using the Finder before import into Aperture.
Personally I have images managed on the internal SSD until editing is complete then convert to Referenced-Masters.
IMO referenced Masters make far more sense than building huge managed-Masters Libraries.
• Hard disk speed. Drives slow as they fill so making a drive more full (which managed Masters always does) will slow down drive operation.
• Database size. Larger databases are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller databases are.
• Vaults. Larger Library means larger Vaults, and Vaults are an incremental repetitive backup process, so again larger Vaults are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller Vaults are. One-time backup of Referenced Masters (each file small, unlike a huge managed-Masters DB) is neither incremental nor ongoing; which is by definition a more stable process.
Managed-Masters Libraries can work, but they cannot avoid the basic database physics.

Is there a way to do batch watermark within iPhoto?

I often upload my photos to pBase using the excellent iPhoto2pBase plugin. But due to the growing issue of photo thefts on the web, I would like to watermark them first. After doing a search on this site, I found recomendations for iWatermark. It's a pretty cool little program but unfortunately it is a standalone and in order to use its batch processing feature, I have to export my photos out of iPhoto, do the watermarking and then re-import them.
I can set set iWatermark as the external editor for iPhoto but that would only allow one photo at a time to be watermarked. Does anyone know of a way to "batch watermark" within iPhoto?

What do you want to use the watermarked images for? If it's to upload to a site or use in another application, then iWatermark can mark the files in the folder you selected, resize them if needed and then save to a folder on the desktop for use. If that workflow will work for you then iWatermark will do the job.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Can Photoshop Batch Resize Tiff Files?

I have quite a number of tiff files that I want to resize in terms of page dimensions and retain the same resolution / dpi. Can Photoshop batch resize tiff files?

Yes Photoshop ships with a plugin Fit image you can record an action to re-size an image to fit within some number of pixels. Image resolution setting and aspect ratio are not changed however the number on pixels the image will have will be less then or equal to the pixels size set. For example if you set width and height to 2000px the largest size image you could have after the operation would be 1:1 aspect ratio square 4MP 2000x2000. If your image has a landscape aspect ratio the re-sized image will be 2000px wide by less then 2000px high and if Portrait the re-sized is will be 2000px high be less then 2000px wide. Bicubic Interpolation for the re-size.
Once you record the single step action. You can batch the action. You can have batch open the image files and save over the original files or have batch save the resized files in a different location. Fit Image and Batch are both found in menu File>Automate>

Batch Resize, Rename & Watermark

Hi, I was just wondering if you can batch resize, rename & watermark with Aperture? If not then can anyone recommend a piece of software that does have these features?

"Exporting versions" in Aperture is the 'batch resize' as well as the 'batch rename' function all in one. When you choose to export a batch of images, a dialog box will appear with naming options as well as sizing options (as well as tons of other options).
I have changed my presets to reflect the size i need on export, then i choose that preset from the export dialog box when it's time to export. I'm pretty sure you can export with a watermark, although I'm not sure.
I have used TONS of different options to rename and resize, not to mention editing. Aperture does it all. Watch the tutorials, once you get a handle how Aperture works, you will not need anything else.

I reinstalled my system on a new hard drive, from time machine. However my old photos seem corrupt within aperture. iphoto seems okay. Have you heard of this?

What kind of corruption? And when do you see it? All your images, or only some? Are the images distorted, discolored, or not displayed at all?
Are you shooting in raw? Is your library referenced or managed? Is your library on your system volume or on an external harddrive?
And it would help to know your MacOS version and Aperture version too.

Duplicate library within Aperture 3

I'm a novice user whose not gonna know all the relevant information the knowledgeable and helpful folks will need to thoroughly answer my question, but here's the best I can do. Perhaps with specific questions, I'll be able to provide more information.
The problem: Aperture contains two librarys: (1) iphoto Library and (2) Project Library. Project Library is larger and all projects and photos within the iphoto Library are duplicates of projects and photos within the Project Library.
Solution I'm working towards: eliminate the duplicate iphoto Lilbrary.
Facts: I do not know how Aperture was initially set up and how the iphoto Library was imported into Aperture, as hubby did that quite some time ago. My masters are now referenced on an external drive. My husband and I both tried to figure out how to properly do this and I just noticed that there were two duplicate folders on our external drive. I effectively housed the masters in a folder on the external called "Aperture Masters." I just attempted to send to trash the two duplicate folders: one named "iphoto library" and the other named "TSP photos." I left the folders in the trash and have not emptied them from the trash.
After I sent these duplicate folders from the external drive to the trash, I opened Aperture again, and the duplicate iphoto Library is still there. However, the icon that shows that it's a referenced file now has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on it. When I click "locate master," it shows me the external drive and the path to the photo I had selected in the iphoto library within Aperture is in red (indicating there's a problem with it). I located the same photo within the Project Library and there is no yellow triangle with exclamation mark on it on the referenced icon and when I click locate master, I can do so without the path showing in red.
Question: Is the final step simply to empty the Trash and then the duplicate library will be gone? Is there anything else with which I need to be concerned to properly eliminate the duplicate library?

One thing to remember is that Aperture does not contain libraries. Aperture libraries are the places where your images are stored to be accessed by the Aperture application. You can have multiple libraries on your system at any one time but only one copy of Aperture the application.
So if I am understanding your situation: You have two Aperture libraries one named iPhoto and one named Project. The Project library contains everything that is in the Aperture library named iPhoto (bad choice of names BTW as it is easy to get confused with iPhoto itself) plus more.
The two libraries do not share any masters.
You now want to delete the Aperture library named iPhoto. You moved referenced masters that this library was referencing to the trash.
This is what I would do: Open the Project library, go to the Photos icon in the Library tab of the Inspector. Make sure the search box says Showing All, select all the images and open the filter HUD and filter for missing images like so:
If the browser is empty then all the images in this library are accounted for and you can empty the trash and delete the Aperture library named iPhoto. If anything shows up then you need to figure out what's going on before you delete anything.

Color correction in batch resizing.

Anyone know good method for batch resizing that doesn't mess up color correction? I have a huge textile swatch library that I would like to batch to a resize, but when I batch resize the fabric textures compress or expand creating a tonal shift. Any good work arounds?

Remove Color Cast is relative simple:
Add the Fast Color Corrector.
Sample an area with the eyedropper from the White Balance' while holding ctrl key down that is supposed to be white.

Opening pdf Version of User Manual from Within Aperture 3

In Aperture 2, I could open the pdf version of the User Manual from the Help Menu. I've downloaded the pdf version of the Aperture 3 Manual and would prefer to open it (instead of the html version) from within Aperture using Acrobat or Preview. Is there a way to set this up .... perhaps with an Applescript or a Service?

Click on the Aperture3 User manual Link, when it opens in Safari, go to > File > Print (don't worry) > you then get a drop down menu > click the PDF link (next to the help question mark) > then from the new drop down menu click > Save PDF to Aperture

Calling Batch Input within RFC

Hello experts.
I need to call a Batch Input within a RFC Function. I heard that approach might bring some problems, taking into account that the RFC function must act as a Web Service for a .Net application calling.
Has anybody came up with a similar situation?

Two things come into my mind with this scenario:
1) Does the batch input require that the executing user is a dialog user? If so then the RFC user must be a dialog user as well.
2) Does the RFC user have sufficient authorizations to execute the batch input?

Show source folder name within Aperture

Is it possible, within Aperture, to see where the actual image is stored on my hard drive? ie, the path and folder structure?
I would think it would be an option when the bottom viewer is set up to show the columns of text (rather than images)...
Or an option within File Info.
But I'm not seeing it.

File>Manage Referenced Images... will show the file paths, but you can't see it via normal metadata.

How do I batch resize 5,000 photos via PS CS4 Extended?

I have 5,000 photos that I took with my Go Pro camera in hopes to make a timelapse movie in Premiere. These photos come out of the camera roughly 1900x1200, and I'm interested in resizing all of them. I know that there are ways to do batch resizing, but after searching the web for hours I cannot find a tutorial that is much if any help in this matter. Help? Clearly resizing each photo would take WAY too much time, especially when discussing 5,000 photos.

I would use Bridge select you photos and then clck on Tools/Image Processor.
There you can set the size you want.
Would suggest you try it with a few before you go whole hog.

Problem trying to batch resize images from bridge.

I am trying to batch resize images from bridge. I am on windows 7 desktop and using CC, I select the images in bridge, tool bar>tools>photoshop>image processor. After doing this, photoshop CC opens but no images open.

open photoshop, open actions pallette, click new action (windows > actions (or Alt+f9)), click record, open your image, resize it, click stop action.
then use file> automate > batch
the action you just recorded will be ready to use, select the folder with all your photos (wise to work on a duplicated folder incase you mess up)
run the action. wait while photoshop opens and resizes the images one by one.
check in folder if the images resized how you expected.

Smart Batch Resizing? vertical/horizontal

Hey,
I have a question of how you would batch resize a ton of photos to 50 % of its original size.
The workflow I've had before is going trough image processor and doing the resizing when I'm converting to .jpeg.
The only problem with image processor is that the resizing doesn't seem to be smart enough to differenciate horizontal with vertical.
So say I choose a specific resolution of 2880 x 1920p all my horizontal pictures are great, but the vertical ones turn out at 1280 x 1920p.
So how do I batch resize in a way that photoshop would know to turn horizontal pictures to 2880 x 1920p and vertical ones to 1920 x 2880p?
Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Create an action to reduce your image by 50% - choose percent! Use the action in Image Processor. You can select an action at the bottom of the Image processor dialog box.

Batch resize different sized images

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. In the past I've used the image processor script to batch resize similarly sized images, but now I have a few hundred images that are all different sizes. I would like to batch resize all these images so each image's longest side is resized to a specific size, while maintaining the current proportions.
I am using CS5.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for.
For example, if I have 3 images - 1200x1400px, 2700x2500px, and 3300x3300px. I want to be able to batch resize all images so that their longest side is 200px while maintaining their current proportions.
So afterwards, I would end up with 3 images - 171x200px, 200x185px, and 200x200px.
