Batch trimming video

Hi there - this is probably a unique problem but thought I'd pose the question.  If someone wanted to batch export a large quantity of clips, but change the in/out point for each clip, is that possible?  For instance, say I was given 400 pieces of prores video.  For reasons not worth mentioning, the first 4 seconds and the last 4 seconds need to be trimmed out.  No other edits are needed on these clips but going through all 400 and doing this manually will really suck.
Food for thought.  If anyone knows a solution to this, please share.  I have not found this function in Adobe Media Encoder or any other product for that matter.
Thanks!
EW

None that I'm aware of. Certainly not in Premiere Elements.
The nature off video is that it's added to a project, effects are added to it and then a new video is output. (Unlike photos, in which the original files are changed.) Because of that nature, batch changing video clips isn't really available -- even with a high-end program like After Effects.

  • How do you trim videos in Photo Booth on the OS X Mavericks?

I recently updated to the new OS X Mavericks. I don't know how to trim videos on Photo Booth though. Before I updated, there was a "trim" button on the bottom right side of the video that was playing, but I'm not sure where it is now. Is it even possible to trim videos anymore? Thank you

After you take your video and it appears on that little strip at the bottom, click and drag the video you want to trim onto your desktop. Then right click and choose Open With > Quicktime Player.app (It should be default.)
Then when it's open, press Command-T on your keyboard or go to the Edit menu and click Trim...
Then drag the little yellow handles to where you want to trim it to and hit the Trim button.
Then press Command-S to save it, or click the little share/export on the player controls to send it to Facebook or whatever you choose.
    Hope this helps,

  • Trimming videos in iPhoto

When I try to trim videos in iPhoto, it tells me I do not have enough memory.  I bought the memory on the iCloud, but I am getting the same message.  How do I get iPhoto to recognize the memory?  I need to make movies with it and iMovie for work.  I have an iPhone 6.  I have deletedother apps' backup.  I have tried and failed to import videos to my home computer (a PC).By the way, still photos work fine.

What system and iPhoto versions are you using?  As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import a couple of videos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Can I trim videos in the Photos app of the iPad 3?

or do I need another app?

    From the iPad User Guide.
“Trim a video. Tap the screen to display the controls, drag either end of the frame viewer, then tap Trim.
Important:  If you choose Trim Original, the trimmed frames are permanently deleted from the original video. If you choose “Save as New Clip,” a new trimmed video clip is saved in your Camera Roll album and the original video is unaffected

  • Can Bridge trim video clips?

I know Bridge can be used to view and rate video clips, but can it also be used to trim video clips down and then export the shortened clips?

Bridge is just a file browser.  It doesn't open or edit anything in any form.
It just hands the files to the appropriate application, whether this be Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Word, or whatever.

  • "There is not enough available storage to trim video."  But I have available 4.7G.

When trying to make a clip of a video I took on my iPad, I get the message, "Cannot Trim Video.  There is not enough available storage to trim video."  Yet I have available 4.7G.  Also, I successfully trimmed the video, then a few minutes later I decided I wanted to do a better job, so I deleted that clip I did not like, went back to original video and when I tried to do the trimming again, I'm getting the error message.  How can I fix this?

5GB is typically not enough space to download a movie.  Often, movies take from 3 - 5 GB to begin with.  The only option you have is to delete more things from your iPad.  You can remove unused Apps, pictures, music, text message (messages with pictures can take up a lot of space), email messages, books, magazines etc.

  • I am trying to trim video in IMovie. I make the section that I want to keep, but then the "Trim to Selection is not highlighted and will not let me select.

I am trying to trim video in IMovie. I mark the selection that I want to keep, but the option "Trim to Selection" is not highlighted and it will not let me choose it.

You can only do this with a Project.
You cannot use this function with an Event.

  • Trimming video in iPhoto9

I recorded a clip with my iPhone4 and imported into iPhoto.
I click on Edit and it shows in QuickTime 10 and I trim the video. I rename when I Save As so as not to overwrite the original. The trimmed video clip shows in the iPhoto Library in Finder but not in iPhoto Events. If I try to import I get a message saying it's already in the Library.
How can I trim a video in iPhoto so that the trimmed version shows in iPhoto?

Thanks! You'd think since one can edit and save photos which still reference back to the original, it'd do the same for video.
Humm - it is iPhoto - not iVideo - iPhoto is oriented around simple point and shoot consumer cameras - iMovie is designed to handle movies
At least one would hope that after doing a Save As into the Library it would show up. Apparently it doesn't get added to the iPhoto database even though the edited version is present.
That is correct - if fact you must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the iPhoto library using other programs or the finder - this includes saving photos or videos to it - it is a SQL database and must have total control of its data
Time to make a feature request unless there's an easier workflow than going to the desktop and importing.
iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
However since what you are requesting violates all of the iPhoto database rules I doubt if it will ever be done

  • Trimming video files on OSX not iOS

Hello im very concerned cos im trying to write a method for trimming HD video files (on oSX not iOS) into 3 seconds file but i can´t find anything useful can anyone help me please?

Well, you can use iMovie and/or Quicktime for trimming videos - those are two, but there is also MPEG Streamclip which can also be used.
If you will use any of these apps and learn how to do it, you can write the instructions. There are also help files accessible in the File Menu > Help within the apps.

  • Trim bar (on timeline bar) has disappeared so can't trim videos??

I know you can trim video's by tapping the trim bars at the end of the timeline bar in videos (/photos), allowing you to trim the start or end of the video's.
I did this on a couple of videos that i filmed on my iPad the other day.
But now this option has disappeared??
The timeline bar is still there but the trim bars (2 little bars you can tap and drag) have disappeared.
Does anyone know how I can get these back?
    Thanks

Close all apps in the Multitasking Drawer; Double Tap Home Button to open drawer, Swipe up on each app to close it. Repeat until all apps are closed, touch home screen.
Restart phone, hold both Home and Power/Sleep buttons down at the same time, continue to hold them down until the Apple Logo appears, Release both buttons and wait for phone to restart.
Check email app to see if bottom bar and new email icon have come back.
If not, delete the email account in settings and then add it back in again.
If mail still not working as it should, you may try doing a Reset All Settings reset in Settings => General => Reset => Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data, music, apps, videos, pictures, etc.  But you will have to go back in and turn on or off any settings you changed on your phone because everything will be set back to factory defaults.

  • Sony Bloggie -- How to trim video

I generally use my Sony Bloggie to shoot concerts. My question is in regards to trimming videos, so I can extract one song out of a set and post onto YouTube. When I hit the Trim button on one of my segments, the screen goes into "One Moment Please" for an inordinately amount of time and doesn't do anything. How long is this supposed to stay there until the new video is produced? Am I doing something wrong? An answer would be much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forums.
Often, a video clip you have taken may be longer than you want or some sharing services such as YouTube, Flickr, or Facebook, has a file size or play length requirement.
Currently, YouTube limits a video clip to a maximum file size of 2GB or 15 minutes. With all Flickr accounts (free and premium), a video clip is limited to 150 MB in size or 90 seconds in length. Facebook video file size and play length limits are dynamically determined based on a users’ profile based on a host of criteria.
Bloggie Software allows you to trim the beginning and ending portions of a video clip.
    To trim a video:
    *first select the video clip.
On the right hand side in the Voice area, a “Trim Video” option appears.
    *Click on “Trim Video”.
*The Trim video tool will appear.
You can adjust the beginning and the ending of the video by adjusting the marker on the left to where you would like the video clip to begin, and the marker on the right to where the video clip will end. When you are happy with the video clip, you can trim the video.
    *select the “Trim” button.
The trimmed video will then be displayed as well as a copy of the video will be created and appear in the Bloggie Software “Everything” view. To return back to your Library of photos and videos, select the “Close” button.
If your computer is hanging and will not complete the trimming process please ensure any resident security programs are not preventing the Bloggie software from completing the task.

  • How can you restore a trimmed video on your iphone?

can you recover a trimmed video from your iPhone if you did not back up to your pc?
when you trim can you recover video you have trimmed?

    Trimming=Delete.
When you trim the video, you’re trimming the original file, and any frames you delete from the video are gone forever. So you should make sure you really want to make cuts before you do so, or at least, back up your videos to your computer first. Sounds like you have no backup(which is done as the first part of a sync) before you trimmed. Thus, the footage is gone.

  • How can I export trimmed video clips from iPhoto?

I have video clips from a kid's sporting event that I need to send to other parents on the team. I've got 73 clips that have been loaded from an SD card, and I've trimmed the length on about half of them.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to export them from iPhoto. When I select 'Original', I get the full-size files, but they're not trimmed. I can drag and drop the clips from iPhoto to a folder, and I do get files that are trimmed correctly, but they're very small (around 12K), so I'm guessing that they link to files on my own hard drive, and won't work if I send them to somebody else.
I am guessing that I could fix the problem manually by making a list of videos that I trimmed, opening each one of the 12K files files in QT Player, and saving that movie. This creates a full-size movie file which is the right file size for the trimmed portion. However, I'd like to be able to do all of this in a single batch operation. Is there a solution for this?

You can't. Trimming inside iPhoto stays inside iPhoto. (Does that have a familiar ring to it?)  All trimming must be done outside of iPhoto with Quicktime Player.  So export the clips to a folder on the Desktop and do the trimming there.

  • "The movie contains an incorrect time value" error - saving a trimmed video

I am attempting to trim a video shot on my Samsung CL65. The video was shot in High Quality HD 1280 x 720. I open the video in QuickTime and then use the Trim command to remove the last part of the video and then close it to Save it. When I save it I get the following error: "The document SAM_0306.MP4 could not be saved as "SAM_0306". The movie contains an incorrect time value." I think this has to do with an encoding error in the original file or in the trimmed file but I have no idea how to get around it.
    Any ideas?

This info probably won't help with your problem, but it's information for others who get this error.
It's probably the software that made the MP4. ffmpegX, for example, and the mencoder program inside it, do this with every H264 encoding when the video is longer than 1 hour. Time codes are correct up to 1 hour, then the seconds value gets wacky (3600 is added to it). Quicktime won't save a movie with a time code like 1:20:3623.120 (although it will correctly display 1:20:23 in the player).
Apple used to offer quicktime scripts that would allow you to see what the time code in a stream really looked like. Applescript appears to have officially and quietly gone missing, though, and those scripts are no longer available online as far as I can tell. There were some really handy other scripts that would allow you to view all sorts of movie properties and manipulate tracks (great for syncing poorly synced sound, for example), but time code problems like the above would invariably mean the movie couldn't be saved.

  • Batch trimming/bounce

    Hi,
I have around 240 audio files that are around 31 seconds each. I now want to create a 10-15 second version of each file and can't think of a quick and easy way to do this without bouncing down every file again. I want to trim each file at exactly the same point and the only ways I can think of doing this are:
    1. Selecting each file in the audio window and trimming them at the same points.
    or
    2. Putting the files onto an individual audio track, selecting the bounce function and then entering the start and end points in the bounce dialog window.
However, the number of audio tracks available to me is much lower than 240 - and either way I would have my work cut out doing every track individually.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,
    Jack

Well, the cutting process was explained so it could be done in, like, 2 minutes.
To answer your question, A procedure such as this could be done by creating a simple macro of Key Commands which could:
    step to next region
    switch to the sample editor
    perform the fade
    switch back to the arrange
    Repeat 240 times
If you had no batch processor, it could be done almost as easily ( and almost as quickly ) as using a batch processor. Of course, Accelerando integrates with several components of your OS and other applications, including Peak Pro and Sample Manager - both of which have very good Batch capabilities.
