I have a trial version of XI. I was able to add Bate Stamping to a PDF doc that I already had. But I was unable to remove the bate stamping. Error message said bate stamping was not placed by using acrobat but it was.

  • Acrobat XI Pro Crashes when Bates Stamping and/or Sanitizing

Hi and help! I'm running Windows 7.  I'm trying to bates stamp pdf files (converted PSTs via Acrobat). The program gets as far as allowing me to pick the formatting, but freezes at the "replacing fonts"  satege. (Not certain why it has to do that either).  Was working fine on larger files (10,000 KB) until yesterday. I've broken them into smaller one, unchecked security preferences, but still nothing.  Taking longer to trouble shoot than it did to review the darn 10,000 pages! Any idea would be MOST appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Erick5,
What is the exact version of Acrobat XI installed on on you Mac?
Have you tried to install latest updates for Adobe Acrobat? Also you may try to repair disk permission using Safe mode in Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204

  • Removing Bate stamping (Adobe 8 Professional)

    Case:
Our production guy, bate stamped a couple of pdf's. Some attorneys, then redacted the pdf and saved them.
Our production guy, had to remove the bate stampes on the pdf's and create new ones, but some of the pdf's would not let him do so. He got the following error message:
"Acrobat cannot find any headers or footers in this file. If you see header or footer information, it was not added in Acrobat ro by an Adobe PDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such."
Any I deas on how to get the bate stamp off the pdf's?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hi,
As you are mentioning that it is not working for  "some of the pdf's", so it means that issue is specific to some files. Can you please tell us more about the content of such files or what is specific in that?
Also can you try to remove Bates Number by following controls.
    1) Header & Footer -> Remove
    2) Header & Footer -> Update. Remove Bates Numbers.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • Is It Possible to Bates-stamp (or add header/footer) USING A SCRIPT?

I need to Bates-stamp (or add a header/footer) to >1000 docments. The Bates-stamp (or header/footer) needs to contain ONLY the first four characters of the filename. Is there a way to do this using only the tools that are part of Acrobat X Professoinal?
If not possible using the toold of Acrobat X Pro, is anyone aware of a third-party plugin that would do this?

You can use a Javascript function to place something onto one or more files as a watermark, which visually is the same as a header/footer even though internally it won't be tagged as such. For example:
    addWatermarkFromText({
      cText: this.documentFileName.substring(0,4),
      nTextAlign: app.constants.align.right,
      nHorizAlign: app.constants.align.right,
      nVertAlign: app.constants.align.top,
      nHorizValue: -72, nVertValue: -72
paste it into the JS console to test it (Ctrl-J or CMD-J), to run it against a bunch of files create a new Action and use the "run a Javascript" step. See the SDK documentation for the parameters you can set on the function.
There's no script access to Bates numbering or the H&F creation dialog.

I am trying to bate stamp documents.  How do I do this?

    Hi luckyducky,
You need Acrobat Pro to add Bates numbering to a PDF. Please see Acrobat Help | Add headers, footers, and Bates numbering to PDFs for more information.

  • Adobe X Bates Stamping and SharePoint 2010

I'm trying to use Adobe X with SharePoint 2010 and Bates Stamp a set of documents stored in a SharePoint library and running into the following issues:
    1. It's necessary to manually check out the documents in order to "stamp" them.  Is this a known issue -- is there a way to have Adobe automatically check out the documents? I suspect not but thought I'd ask (would be a nice feature to add)
    2. Once checked out, Adobe can process the documents.  However, even though I tell it to "overwrite" the existing documents and to change the file name to the Bates Stamp sequence, Adobe creates new documents in the same library.  The result is that I end up with twice as many documents in the library.  Is there a fix for this so that Adobe actually overwrites the existing documents instead of creating copies?
    Thanks

    Hi, Renew.
Since this question is not related to the CreatePDF service, but rather related to Acrobat, I've moved your question to the Acrobat forum > Creating, Editing and Exporting PDFs.

  • How do I bate stamp with Adobe reader x1

How do I bate stamp documents with Adobe reader XI?
    Thanks

You can add text annotations with Reader XI, though, and a script could be used to automate this task, thereby bates stamping the file. However, these annotations can also be easily removed, so it might not be an ideal solution.
If you really need this functionality you might want to invest in Acrobat, as mentioned.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Bates Stamp Removal

I have just added Bates numbering to a pdf file, using Adobe Acrobat X Pro. I started the bates numbering on page 1. I want to change this to start on page 18 (for example). When I try to remove the bates numbering I just added, I receive the following message:
"Acrobat cannot find any Bates Numbering in this file. If you see Bates Numbering information, it was not added in Acrobat or by an Adobe PDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such"
This is not the case. The Bates numbering was added in Acrobat just a few minutes before I tried to remove them. I have tried removing them in Acrobat 9 Pro also, and receive the same message. This doesn't happen to every file, but this has happened on multiple files.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

    I figured it out.
Adobe PDF cannot parse the quotes in any title that firfox passes to it.
So if your page has a " in it.  The PDF printer does not parse " right.

  • Unable to Redact or Bates due to Error: There was a problem reading this document (16)

I am using Acrobat Pro X.  I have hundreds of account statements where I need to redact and bates stamp.  Somehow I keep getting this error:  There was a problem reading this document (16)
The files open and print fine.  There is no security settings in the PDF that will disalllow me to do this.  The next thing I checked to see if they were PDF/A but they were not.   Also, I tried Print to PDF but it garbles up the PDF results.  Re-scanning them is not a solution for me given the time it would takeme.
Any idea why I would get this error when the PDFs open, save and print ok?

This means there is an internal error in the PDF files, even if they seem to display OK. Contact the document creator.

  • In Adobe 8 how do you create a bates log file?

I love this feature in Adobe 9 where one can select "output options" and change the way the bates stamped PDF is saved, to create a log file of bates numbers per document, etc.  Are these same output options and bates log file options available in Adobe 8?  Basically, how do I create a bates log file in Adobe 8?

This is a great utility---thanks for sharing it!  The Javascripts folder can be hard to find--here's what worked for me:
For Macbook Pro users using Acrobat Pro X with OS X version 10 or greater,  you’ll want to copy the unzipped “UVSAR_selectiveFlatten.js”  file into the JavaScripts folder located in this path:
    /Applications/Adobe Acrobat X Pro/Adobe Acrobat Pro.app/Contents/Resources/JavaScripts
*** IMPORTANT:  To be able to see the Contents folder, you must Right-Click (Ctrl-Click if you don't have a right button) on the filename "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app", then select Show Package Contents from the pop-down menu.  The Contents folder will appear in a new window and you can navigate to  Contents/Resources/JavaScripts, and put the “UVSAR_selectiveFlatten.js” into the JavaScripts folder.
Once you've done that, restart Acrobat Pro and you'll find the "Flatten" option in your Edit menu.  VERY handy!  Tip:  might want to save your original PDF file as a different version just to be safe---once you flatten the PDF, it can't be undone, so either just print and don't save, or save as different version if need be.

  • Bates numbering error

I am having trouble bates stamping.  I am working with 4300 files.  When I select "replace file name with starting and ending bates number" option I get an error when I complete the process that says "The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open.  Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder".

I have the exact problem.  Oddly, if you print the document and rescan, it will take the bates numbers.  I think it has something to do with "newer" pdfs (i.e., created with a newer version of adobe).  However, I have had no luck fixing it.  Would love a suggestion!!
BTW - there is no page limit for numbering.  That is definitely not the problem.

  • Combined files automatically re-organized by Bates number?

I have a folder containing 1,373 PDF files, comprising what I think is approximately 7,400 pages. Each page was Bates stamped by a legal support company, but when they sent the CD containing said folder, all 1,373 files were organized by the file name, and not sequentially by Bates number.
Rather than opening 1,373 files and performing 1,373 searches for keywords that may identify privileged information, it would be much more efficient to have all the documents in several large files and only perform a few searches.
To get to my problem: When I combined the files, it seems that Adobe Acrobat X Pro automatically organized the files sequentially by Bates number. In order to be confident that we do not need to perform 1,373 searches using the separate files, we need to confirm that the Bates numbering from the combined files matches up with the number of pages. My question is, is it possible that Adobe automatically re-organized the files sequentially by Bates number?
    Thank you for your help.

If you've already got the script to make the subdirectories then its not a huge step to add the code to move the files:
    tell application "Finder"
      repeat with this_number from 65 to 90
set this_letter to ASCII character this_number
        set new_folder to make folder at window 1 with properties {name: this_letter}
move (every file of target of window 1 whose name begins with this_letter) to new_folder
      end repeat
    end tell

  • Bates Numbering with Less than Six Digits

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting Acrobat Pro 8 to bates stamp with less than six digits?

I know it works in Adobe 9.

  • Bates numbering file order

I am trying to bates number 200 documents- named 1-200 in order. When I add the files to be bates stamped, adobe sorts them 1, 10,11, 12 instead of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. How do I get around this???

I have the same problem, on a Windows system.  The Bates numbering works fine, but the system will not rename the files.  I cannot get it to work. Anyone have a solution?  Using version 9.1.3 Pro for Windows.

  • I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on my desktop.  Can I also load into onto my laptop for working remotely with the same serial number?

I use Adobe Pro on my desktop daily at the office and now will be handling work remotely from a laptop as well.  Adobe Pro is essential for my work (bates stamping, redaction, advanced editing, etc). Can I use the same serial number and installation disc to load this on my laptop?  There are no instructions that speak to this issue and I know other programs I have installed provided for both desktop and laptop access.  It isn't like I am giving use of this product to another user or pirating it, so I can't foresee an issue. Any information is much appreciated.  Thank you!

    Hi rebekah,
Adobe End User License Agreement entitles you to install a singe retail license on 2 computers at any instance.
So you can load Acrobat 9 license on the other computer too.
