Bates Numbering feature in Acrobat.

I need the Bates Numbering feature in Acrobat. Is this available with Acrobat XI Standard and Pro? If feature is available in both version are there differences? I am not a heavy user of this feature.

Hi Robert peters,
Yes this feature is available in Acrobat XI standard and Pro.

  • Removal of Bates numbering in Adobe Acrobat Pro X

We can't remove the bates numberings in our PDF docs. When we try to we get a message that says
"Acrobat cannot find any Bates Number in this file. If you see Bates Number information, it was not added in Acrobat or by an Adobe PDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such"
Is there another way to remove this?
The docs we're working on are scanned.

Obviously, the previous answers are correct.  Since the Bates numbers are simply image content at this point, your options are limited.  In addition to the redaction tool, however, if the Bates numbering text is clean and positioned away from other content, you may be able to OCR the document, then use the Search and Redact function in Acrobat to remove the Bates numbers.
The only other option (assuming the placement of the Bates numbering is extremely consistent, such as those applied with Acrobat or a similar tool) would be the use of the custom redaction template feature in a 3rd party plug-in by Evermap called AutoRedact.  This software would allow you to create a custom template that could then be applied to each page, at which point the image content contained within the resulting rectangle annotation could be redacted.
Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • Bates numbering not recognized in Acrobat XI Pro (through Creative Cloud).

Several times recently, I bates-numbered the pages, had to shuffle or add or remove pages, did so, and then tried to renumber. Each time I got the message that Acrobat could not find any Bates numbering even though I had added Bates numbering via Acrobat myself only minutes earlier.

    Hi ,
I would suggest you to have a look at the following KB document. Please see if they have something useful for you and can fix the issue.

  • Fixing acrobat pro XI crash when adding bates numbers

Upgraded from Pro 8 to Pro 11 and regretting it.  Now the program just won't work.  Process of adding bates numbers is simple.  Once I finally find where the "tool" is hidden, I add a document and then select add bates number.  There is "OK" button, but when I click that, program crashes.  Every time, every document regardless of size.

I just tried works for me.

  • Editing Acrobat 9.0 Bates numered document in Acrobat 8.0

We have Bates numbered a document in Acrobat 9.0, but aren't able to edit the Bates numbering in Acrobat 8.0. Is there a way to patch 8.0 to allow it to work with documents that have been saved in 9.0? We will probably run into this problem with other 9.0 features as well.

I have run into the same problem - but I have Acrobat 8 Professional which does in fact have Bates numbering.  Apparently when you apply Bates numbering using 9, you cannot edit it in 8 - and vice versa as I have both 8 and 9 Pro here.  I'm not necessarily impressed with this "feature" - seems a little too much like Microsoft and how it treats its versions.

  • Bates Numbering/File Rename not working ver 9.1.3

I am trying to apply Bates numbering to a series of documents for document production in a litigation matter that I am handling.  I want to apply Bates numbers and also rename the documents with the Bates range of the documents included in each document.
The version of Acrobat on my Windows system is version 9.1.3.  In that version, the Bates numbering appears as it should in the right place on each page, but Acrobat will not rename the file names with the Bates range.  When I try the exact name thing with the same files on another computer in my office, running version 9.0, everything works fine, and the file names are approrpriately changed to the Bates range of the numbers within the file.
Something appears to have been changed in making version 9.1 that has messed up the ability of Acrobat to rename the files when applying Bates numbers.
Anyone have any information on this or a solution?

I have no idea, other than LR wasn't designed to handle anything but images that cameras rendered. I was surprised to learn LR even played the audio file.
Your question was clear; I read it badly.
AFAIK, you'll have to manually name the audio file, but since each one is a custom job, it shouldn't be too onerous.

  • Activate Bates Numbering in Document Processing menu?

I have a customer who needs to insert Bates Numbering into his documents for a coming audit, however when he goes to Advanced > Document Processing , as stated in http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Professional/WS6
DE1E376-6A82-406c-A711-6C5E5207A1F2.w.html , he has no option for
    Bates Numbering.
Is there an add-in to do so, or is there a way to enable this option in Acrobat 9?
    Thanks!

No, he has Acrobat 9 Standard. Does this make a difference?

  • Bates Numbering Error Message

I am trying to Bates number a large pdf file using Adobe Acrobat Professional 9, but I get the following error message:
"an error was encountered while retrieving page content."  Has anyone else encountered this message?  Is there a limit to the number of pages in a pdf that Adobe Professional 9 will number?

I have the exact problem.  Oddly, if you print the document and rescan, it will take the bates numbers.  I think it has something to do with "newer" pdfs (i.e., created with a newer version of adobe).  However, I have had no luck fixing it.  Would love a suggestion!!
BTW - there is no page limit for numbering.  That is definitely not the problem.

  • Missing bate numbers when printing

I am using Acrobat 10 Pro.  When printing a large pdf (1000+ pages)  I start getting random missing portions of bate numbers after printing correctly for the first few hundred pages.  Windows 7 pc with 4 gig of memory.  If I start reprinting at the point where the bate numbers started going missing it prints them correctly for awhile before they again start going missing.  All the bate numbers are correct prior to printing?  Is there a setting I need to change or something?  Thanks.

Hmm, that's interesting. However, since in my case it only seems to be related to this one PDF, could it be that the PDF has an bad embedded copy of the font that my Mac is using to print with, but Windows isn't? I tried looking for any hints as to what fonts may have been used in the PDF and found references to "Arial" and "Times New Roman", both of which appear to be working fine if used in any of document. If you agree that this is probably just a bad embedded font, I will mark this as solved and move on. Thanks!

  • Is bates numbering available in Adobe on line ?

Is bates numbering available in Adobe on line ?

  • Bates numbering question

I work for a small print shop doing some basic work. Recently replaced someone else, I was asked today to use bates numbering for a print project for raffle tickets.  These tickets were grouped 4 to a page.  The guy before me somehow used bates numbering to insert the ticket numbers onto the tickets in sequential order.  But to my understanding you can only do this in the header and footer.  SO does anyone know how he accomplished this as I need to be able to recreate it using adobe acrobat.  I thought maybe he used something else but when clicking the remove bates option of a past project he worked on I am using for reference it does in fact get rid of all ticket numbers on page.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi pierre112,
You've landed in the Acrobat.com forum. If you have questions about Google Drive, please contact Google.
If you're using Acrobat Pro, however, see Acrobat Help | Add headers, footers, and Bates numbering to PDFs for information about using Acrobat to add Bates numbering.
    Best,
    Sara

  • What to do if Add Header/Footer tool and Bates Numbering tool both get error message? File too big?

    Hello,
I'm working with a 700 page / 103 Mo PDF that I need to put page numbers on. Both the Header/Footer tool and the Bates numbering tool result in error messages.
'An error occurred while retrieving the contents of the page.'
I suspect this is because the PDF was made by assembling 30 smaller PDFs via Preview and never down-sized during the process. I would imagine that would create a kind of clunky file. Or maybe it's simply the size that is overloading the software.
Does anyone have any advice on a fix or a workaround for this? I need to put page numbers on. I really want to put them on the composite PDF (going back to the 30 original PDFs would be a real headache for a lot of reasons.)
    Thanks!

    Hi Eliza,
Your suspicion is right. It might be possible that assembling different pdf's together created from different applications might be the issue.
Try printing the pdf to Adobe pdf printer and then try adding the page numbers and check.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Commenting features slowing Acrobat 9.0.3 to a crawl

I was wrong in my previous thread about Adobe Updater being the culprit for the horrendous slowdowns in Acrobat Pro 9.0.2.  Updater.acroplugin is not the problem.
Apparently, the commenting feature of Acrobat is what grinds it to a halt. If I disable any one of the plugins required for the comments option to show up in the menu bar (AcroForm.acroplugin, WebLink.acroplugin, EFS.acroplugin, and possibly others), Acrobat becomes excruciatingly slow.
Does anyone know of a way to make the commenting feature of Acrobat move faster? It takes about 30 seconds for it to respond to any click or movement of the mouse.

    OH. MY GOSH. IT'S FIXED!!
I have spend the past 2 hrs on the phone with Adobe and Apple tech support. Adobe had me try creating a brand new user account and opening Acrobat. It opened fine with commenting enabled. So that seemed to indicate that the problem was somewhere in my User library.
So after trying various things that didn't fix it, including deleting the entire preferences folder, and starting in safe mode (hold down shift while rebooting until you see the grey apple, then wait 10-15 minutes for it to load).
Finally, he had me pull this folder out and move it to the desktop:
HD: userfolder: homefolder: library: application support: adobe: acrobat
After that, like magic, it works at full speed again.
He warned that he has no idea what Adobe might need that folder for, so you shouldn't trash it completely, but leave it on the desktop until you know for sure.
I'm happy once again! I hope this solves your problem too.

  • I installed Acrobat XI pro on a Mac but it only shows the features of acrobat reader - how do I activate the pro features?

How do I get Acrobat XI pro on a Mac to work fully, and not just act like Acrobat Reader. i just paid and downloaded it, entered new serial number when requested, but when I open a .pdf I have no pro features showing (such as editing tools, convert to powerpoint, etc). I use XI pro on a windows PC and have no problem there.

Perfect answer. And I feel a bit dumb (should have worked it out, but still finding my way round the Mac). Many thansk for the help.
