Batteries for Apple b/t aluminium keyboard.

I bought a new b/t aluminium keyboard this morning from the local Apple distributor. I was surprised to see that it came in a thin plastic sleeve with no instructions whatsoever. As I found a User manual on line I find this slightly suspicious. At first I could not get it to work, so following the trouble shooting instructions I took the batteries out to change.
According to the manual it clearly shows that there are three batteries needed. Can some user please confirm how many batteries shoud be installed as I can only remove two. It is difficult to say if there is another one stuck inside the unit.
Michael.

Not at all confusing, you have a new keyboard (2 batteries) I have an old one (3 batteries).

  • Dirver for the aluminium keyboard for a windows XP Lenovo Notebook

    Hi,
I desperately searching for a working keyboard driver for my Apple aluminium keyboard, connected to my Windows XP Notebook at my offcie (at home, I use a Mac, of course
So I cannot use Bootcamp, but isn't there any usual XP-driver for the keyboard, or some other work around.
I searched already a lot in the web, but with no sucess.
    thanks for your help

    Hello spidermains,
Happy to see that I have a friend in that adventure
Look I have a blog entry here:
    http://www.happytocode.com/post/Can-I-use-the-new-Apple-USB-Aluminium-keyboard-o n-Windows.aspx
That post describes all the steps I followed to extract the drivers from the dual boot camp CD.
I'm using a PC, only a PC. I do not have any Apple computer (yet).
When I mention boot camp, I mean the boot camp CD on one side and the boot camp utilities on the other side. To be more specific the tool I'm talking about is the kbrmgr.exe
That tool sits in the systray and is handling the special keys of the keyboard.
If you have other questions... let me know,
    John.

Thanks for your observation. I realize they are different versions, but when I use the "Software Update" menu, this is as far as it would update. Is there some way to update the iMac beyond what "Software Update" does? I've tried it several times.
    Please Note.
Upgrading OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion) is not an update. It is a paid upgrade. Just as with 10.7 (Lion) you must purchase it from the App Store with yor Apple ID and install it after backing up your current computer state for safety.

  • Rechargable Batteries for Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

I'm wondering if rechargeable batteries are compatible with the Wireless Keyboard & Mouse, and if so, what types does Apple recommend? I'm constantly going through regular batteries to power these devices. Thanks.

I bought some ordinary rechargable batteries from Maplin Electronics (AA NiMH) and they were perfect (even came with an AC charger) for £9.99 (they supplied 6 and 2 AAA), so perfect for the keyboard.
    Hope that helps.

  • Separate settings for MBP keyboard and aluminium keyboard?

I just bought myself a Apple aluminium keyboard (USB) and have to say I'm loving it. However, there is one small hang-up.
Basically, whatever key-commands I apply to the keyboard are taking from my MacBook Pro's keyboard settings and seem to have none of their own. I had gotten the impression that there was a stand-alone software to manage the keyboard but that does not seem to be the case as far as I can tell after about 30 minutes of searching the net and Apple's website.
Does anyone know a way in which I can have one set of settings for my laptop's keyboard and another set for my aluminium keyboard?
All relevant software updates, OS X 10.5.2.

  • Apple Aluminium Keyboard on OSX 10.3

Not sure where to post this as there's no specific "Other Apple Hardware" area
Will a Wired Apple Aluminium Keyboard work on 10.3 as the specs say 10.4 and above - it's a keyboard after all shouldn't it work on any Mac OS? OK maybe some of the special functions won't work (brightness, Expose) but I'd want to keep the volume and eject.

If you're talking about the new keyboards that came out in August, then no. The newest line of keyboards (aluminum) are only compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.10 and later. There are many 3rd party alternatives available, like from Logitech and Microsoft that look just as great. The reason behind this is due to driver issues and the personalized key assignments. Someone, somewhere has probably created drivers, but I wouldn't go looking for them, because they are most likely unsigned and unsafe. Besides, there are many good alternatives, including older Apple keyboards, like I said above.

  • Organizer Tray for Apple Wired Keyboard & Magic Trackpad

    Greetings,
I have found several "organizer tray" products online for positioning the Bluetooth keyboard and the Magic Trackpad like a Macbook Pro where the trackpad is just below the keyboard.
I am curious to know if anyone has seen or has a tray that will organize the Apple wired aluminum keyboard with the numeric keypad and the Magic Trackpad.
I find that I'm getting RSI in my fingers and wrist having the trackpad to the right of the keyboard.
    Anyone seen anything?
    Thank-you!
    Derrick

Just found another one; a slightly different configuration and less than half the price: http://www.magiclapdesk.com/magiclapdesk-for-apple-trackpad.html Good luck!

  • Will the apple store fix my keyboard area for a third time?

I have an early 2008 white macbook and about a year after I got it the edges of the keyboard area (right where the magnets from the screen part close on top of) started chipping off. It tends to catch against my hands or arms and then rip more off of it. I brought it to the apple store and they told me that I just needed to be really careful when closing and opening the laptop because the magnets can put stress on that area and start making it break. They replaced the whole keyboard and all was well.
I was really careful, just like they said to be, for another year or more and it started breaking off again. I left it for a while because I didn't think they would fix it for me again, but then my touchpad wouldn't let me click anymore (the button wouldn't even press down) so I brought it in again. They said the battery started inflating or something and they replaced the battery and the keyboard again for me.
Now the keyboard area is chipping again. I'm curious, do you think that they would replace it for again a third time or is this wishful thinking?

How much does the apple store charge to replace the keyboard/trackpad assembly?

Does Apple still sell replacment replacment batteries for the white unibody macbook?

The model 6,1 Late 2009 and the model 7,1 Mid 2010 with the A1342 case use an A1331 battery. You can replace it yourself or have Apple do it for you for $129. If you need it quickly make sure you order it from a U. S. seller. Orders from China can take two or three weeks.

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

Yes you can still purchase replacement batteries your iPod from third party repair companies.  Apple does not offer replacement parts.
Do a Google search for iPod battery replacement and you should get a plethora of results.  There are many good deals on Amazon and eBay.

  • Use the new aluminium keyboard on a PC with Windows XP

    Hello all,
That post is describing the problems I have when using the new apple aluminium keyboard on a PC using the windows XP keyboard drivers found on the boot camp CD (1.4)
This is my first post here so please be kind with me
First, let me know in case there is a better section where I should post that post.
I know that what I will ask here may not be a supported scenario. I understand that. But anyway. Here it is.
I am using Windows XP on a PC not a mac computer.
I bought one of the new aluminium keyboards. I love it, it's excellent. I know that the box says it requires mac os X 10.4 and up... I understand al that.
Because it is an USB keyboard, I thought I like it, let's try it on a PC. It worked but the letters on the keyboard are not placed like those on a PC.
Then I tought, why not use the driver for that keyboard provided on the bootcamp CD. I bought the keyboard. I own all my licences, so why not?
First I had a lot of troubles extracting those drivers from the bootcamp CD. I use Transmac for that.
A long story short. It's working and I'm typing that post right now on my cool keyboard.
so why am I here? Because it's not working perfectly.
All the keys are working perfectly, only the companion softwares are not.
I'm unable to launch the bootcamp dashboard, I have the icon in my systray but when I try to open the dashboard I get:
    Boot Camp
An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings.
You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again.
    OK
I understand that. I guess this is related to the boot camp dual boot feature.
I guess that if this was working I could access to the bootcamp option panel and eventually have the opportunity to get access to the keyboard options? maybe I'm guessing wrong.
So, what I'm asking here is for the apple developpers working on the windows drivers for the apple hardware.
Do you think that you could test your drivers on PCs ? I'm pretty sure you could sell some more keyboard to the PC peoples as your keyboards are trully excellent.
The 'problems' I have are the following:
    - I cannot lock or unlock the fn key, what I would like to do is use the F7 to F12 keys by default and press the fn key if I ant to access to the scpecial features, like for sound and CD eject
    - kbrd.exe does not always start automaticaly. And when I start it by hand my computer freezes for about ten seconds
    - the keyboard layout should only be changed for the apple keyboard, not for all the keyboards connected to the PC. Because I have two keyboards attached to my computer, my previous pc keyboard and the new apple keyboard. The layout on the PC keyboard is now the same as for the apple keyboard. this is wrong as it renders my previous keyboard useless. why do I need another keyboard? because that other one is cable less, meaning I can use it to control my PC when I'm not in front of it. But now, with the apple keyboard drivers this is not longer possible
    - an option to have to press fn+eject to eject the CD would be nice. this will avoid me pressing eject by accident when I try to press the back delete key
    - also as the drivers exist, why not let people like me download them outside of bootcamp for the kind of scenario I'm describing here?
That would all be very nice.
If you need a tester for that scenario, count on me,
Thank you for your comprehension about me asking such a question
I love that keyboard and do not intend to stop using it,
    John.

Which brand is THE best in rechargeable batteries for Magic Mouse AND last long ?

I've been using the Apple rechargables in my keyboards/mice/trackpads for over a year now.  They last 3-4 weeks in my usage pattern but I have spares ready to go when they get weak.
