Battery adaptor

I use my MacBookPro for work filming which cab be on location a lot. I have seen that you can get an adaptor to connect to a 12v block battery via an XLR lead. Unfortunately I did not save the page and need to get one. Has anyone come across this device and where I get buy one?

This is turning out to be an epidemic. I have an ibook G4 800 and it started doing the same thing a couple days ago. I have another ibook that I charge the battery in, then put it in the G4. But the thing wont start up off just the power cord, and it wont charge the battery. I've reset the PMU and the PRAM, and this hasn't helped anything. 299 for Apple to repair it. But I do get free overnight shipping both ways. That was nice of them.

  • Battery drain even adaptor connected - Satellite P30-133

Just bought a used machine but battery seems to drain even when adaptor connected (and switched on!). Battery, adaptor or other problem?

It is not easy to give any precise diagnostic but I presume the battery must be exchanged. It is always problem with used notebooks because you never know how the previous owner has used the notebook and battery.

  • Google Instant, FB Chat & Netflix streaming doesn't work ? Mac replacement?

February of 2010 I had an issue where Facebook chat did not work, I would sign into facebook and there wouldn't even been an option for facebook, like it never existed.
Summer of 2010 I upgraded to Snow Leopard and did a complete wipe and install, started from scratch.
This fixed the problem. I later got netflix and enjoyed watching movies on my mac.
Then.. out of nowhere, facebook chat issue comes back, netflix doesn't work and says my computer doesn't meet the requirements (sarfar 3 and up, and 1Gb ram - i have safari 5 and 2g ram). And then google instant was released as well and that doesnt work. All while my girlfriends (summer 10') mac book pro works fine, as well as my cousins Mac Book Pro (Summer 09'), works just fine.
Oh and all three +google instant, fb chat and netflix+ dont work with either safari, firefox or chrome.
Here's what I have done so far.
Called apple. Reinstalled Safari, firefox, chrome. Uninstalled, installed flashplayer. Called netflix, said it was apples problem, called apple said it was netflix.
    Then..
Went to Mall of America apple. Booted from their own copy of Mac OS X 10.6.5 from jump HD and everything worked! He said all I have to do is find my Snow Leopard disk, hold C and boot up computer and just install it again.
Just did that and it doesn't work, no change whatsoever.
I really do NOT want to do a complete wipe and install, that was a huge hassle, and I could not do a simple time machine back up and install because whatever is in my current OS would be exported into the new OS installation, get it? So I lost many files, playlists, music, bookmarks, documents, pictures.
This is the second time this has happened, what is my guarantee it wont happen a third time? It is definitely an OSX error or bug, but I have also had my track pad replaced three times since summer 2009, and a MagSafe battery adaptor replacement! Is there ever a time where Apple just replaces my MacBook?! I just upgraded to the 2 year extension, what will happen after 2 years? assuming my trackpad will need to be replaced 3x's every year and a OS reinstallation twice ever year?
    What are my options?

That was very helpful. I didn't know "escalate" was the key word to get his problem solved. So thanks!
The Apple Support specialist said that if the trackpad fails a 4th time, and I ask to escalate that issue, then they would replace my whole Mac Book Pro.
As for the netflix, fb chat and google instant. This was an issue caused by Net Barrier, a 3rd party program that deals with online security, and also that I had deleted. However, the startup items for this program were still intact.
    Solution
Boot windows in Safe Mode (power + shift key) and test for changes.
if it works in Safe Mode...
    go to Macintosh HD>Library>startupitems
move all files under startupitems to the trash and reboot the computer.
This is what solved my issue! Hope this is helpful to anyone else with a similar issue.

  • Liquid spill on macbook pro early 2011

i got macbook pro 13 ''.Actually i got coffee spill on that one .its not turning on . I have gone to apple genius  they said it could be possible logic board damage and costs around $750.Also it is not getting charged now there is no light comes when i connect the battery adaptor. I have opened and checked the logic board of mac book pro as liquid spill is not covered under warranty.there is not any liquid anywhere over there but i have noticed when i disconnect and then connect again battery of laptop, fan start running, laptop turns for  3 second with white screen , chimes sound come then again goes out turned off .same thing happens when i press the (left) Shift-Control-Option key combination along with the power button once.
can anyone suggest me solution for that one

Yeah, been there, seen that. A former colleague spilt his first morning coffee on the power connector of his then-new 13" MBP back in 2010. Puff it went (and it wasn't the Magic Dragon) and was no more till a logic board replacement that ran for roughly what you've been quoted. He had just paid the first 4 of the 18 installments on the thing.
So yeah, decision time. Repair or replace. As for salvage, unless you mistook the Mac for a Dunkin' Donut, the HDD is probably ok. Just take it out and plop it into a USB enclosure to extract its valuable contents.
P.S. If you go the repair route, make sure they clean the keyboard too. No sense in paying eight Benjies only to have sticky keys afterwards.

I believe you have had a motherboard failure. Unless you have very advanced equipment and skills and can track down the failed component on the board and replace it, the only real way to fix it is to replace the motherboard, which will not be free.

  • Battery charging and power adaptor issues

I'm having slight issues with both my power adaptor and the battery itself.
First I think I have cord issues as the light status can change from dim green to red or bright green if I move the cord around.
Second, my MBP is having trouble recognising if power is going to the battery or if it's charging etc. It can recognise if there's no adaptor connected at all, but if there's an adaptor connected, it has trouble seeing if there's power coming from the adaptor even if the light is on. I.e. it can stay at 100% and supply comes from the power adaptor and then suddenly drop to 80% power and start charging agan. One issue that happened earlier today was the adaptor was connected, and the battery indicator was at 100% with supply from the adaptor. Suddenly the MBP shutdown, and when I rebooted it was at 17% (I've tried repeating that in case of a dodgy battery but I couldn't)

If that doesn't help, the problem could be the adapter, the battery, or the I/O board (or a couple of less likely things). If you can borrow another adapter and/or battery, try them to see where the problem is. Or, if you're near an Apple Store, take it in and they'll diagnose it for you (for free, but they will charge for repairs if you need them and don't have AppleCare).

I am planning on buying a new MacBook Pro later this year, but for the meantime I'm not sure if I should buy a new power adaptor, or if this is a problem with my MacBook Pro. Also does anyone know where I can buy a battery in the UK for 1st Gen MacBook Pro.

OWC has batteries for 1,1 generation MacBook Pros and they ship internationally - http://eshop.macsales.com/.
Your best bet for a power adapter is to get one from Apple. Third-party adapters just don't seem to be reliable (or safe). You can also buy a replacement battery directly from Apple, of course, but they're a bit more expensive.

  • Power adaptor and battery HOT!

This is the message I sent to Apple a few minutes ago. Maybe some of you can have some answers as well. Thanks!
    "Dear Apple,
First of all, I would like to kindly express my apologies for using the feedback form to send you some thoughts about my MAC. I did not know who else to address to.
I have bought my MAC in September 2009, through the Apple Store online. It has been delivered in Norway, where I am living in the present.
Unfortunately, I have never been very satisfied with it, due to two main issues.
First, I have noticed a problem with the battery and power adaptor since the very first day. They are both heating up very fast, after just some minutes, and then the mac is really, really slow (even if I have just one open application). I have tried a few times to go to a service provider in Oslo, but they said it's working fine. The first time I had a visit with a service was in the first week after I bought it. Then, when I had this screen problem, so I took advantage and I asked them to check again the battery (they had it for a week or two). They said it was fine. A few weeks ago I visited 3 different services with the same issue - no problems found.
Of course one could say that this is the proper way of working of a mac, but how can a mac work so slow when they all say it is so fast? I have asked around and none of my friends had a similar problem, since they've purchased it.
I decided to write you now due to the fact that a few days ago I had to use a friend's mac for some hours (which is older than mine, a simple MacBook; plus, he uses it much often than me). It was working perfectly! Not at all slow, no heating.
Then yesterday I had my power adaptor plugged in for half an hour - then I saw that the mac was not charging (how come?). When I touched the power adaptor, I literally burned my finger. Of course I got scared as well. I tried to change the power adaptor with another one - it did not get so heat up, but the battery of the mac was still burning, as usual. I used to keep my old PC in my lap, with the mac it was always impossible, unfortunately.
With lots of regrets I am writing this message. I have never felt that I had a 'real mac', like the other friends of mine, although I was so excited in the beginning. I sincerely hope that I am a unique user.
Now I am planning to sell it to someone (I don't think I can get even half of the price now, since it is pretty old) and get back to some usual PC. With all the regrets in the world, again, because some of the features were indeed really cool (like the trackpad, for eg).
Thank you for reading this! Good luck with your future products! And may God rest in peace Steve Jobs, I hope the business will not be affected.
    Best regards,
    Cristina Moldovan"

45W is definitely not correct for any 15" model. Here are the correct model power adapters:

Yes it can hurt and potentially create a fire hazard if you use the wrong adapter. Get the correct one.

  • T61 power adaptors do nothing - won't run computer & won't charge battery

My T61 suddenly won't run on the power adaptor, or charge the battery.   I have several OEM power adaptors and none of them do anything plugged into this T61.  The computer runs fine on a battery charged in another T61.

  • Shut down when connecting AC Adaptor on low battery

My macbook 1.83 ghz dies when I connect the AC Adaptor because my battery has run down in to the red. I then have to reset the PMU ( I don't bother removing the adaptor or battery for this - just hold the power button for ten seconds) to get it to start up again. If I connect the adaptor before the battery gets low its ok and begins charging and runs as normal. Any ideas?

Just hope your Macbook not really died, just went into sleep state to preserve information before completely run of battery juice.
It is ok to plug your mag safe anytime, for new battery technology will prevent the memory effect that usually happen on older (before Li) battery, that require us to use it until depleted before charge it.
It is also recommend to use your battery until it is almost depleted (red) and charge it to refresh the cell and prolong battery life.
    Good Luck

  • Is it bad to use a laptop with no battery--only AC adaptor?

I have an old PowerBook G4. The battery died a long time ago and I've been using it since  using just the AC adaptor, which is fine with me as I only use it at home (I have a newer MacBook Pro I can use away from home).
But recently, after it had been shut down and disconnected from the AC for a few weeks, when I started it up I had to reset the date and time, and after using it for a relatively short time,  the area right above the battery compartment became  hotter than I ever remember it getting. So I removed the battery.
At this point I'd prefer not to have to buy a new battery, and am wondering if it would be OK to continue using it with no battery inside it--just with the AC adapter? I assume if I keep it plugged in to the AC all the time  I won't have to reset the date and time each time I use it.
I spent quite a while looking in the support archives for an answer to this specific question but with no luck. Thank you.
    Ed

There are sources of adequate batteries online for those model G4s
and the price varies; some users had a variety of experiences so if
you choose to look for one, check the seller ratings and feedback.
Some are not auction sites, others may be a seller with 'buy now.'
Since batteries to not have a long storage shelf life, the best you can
do is find a source of batteries from some company that rebuilds them.
Then, you could get another and maybe send the worn one back... Or
see if someone in your vicinity knows how to correctly replace cells in
that battery case. Be on a lookout for good spare power adapters, too.
I've found a few good ones at second hand stores for little or nothing.
An advantage to having a battery in the computer, is that should there
be a power-interrupt, the computer will still be running & that gives you
time to save your work, and shut down the computer normally.
The other option would be to get an older Mac desktop computer and
the processor would run at its preferred best speed, without a need
to get a battery for a portable computer. If a G4, too, the ceiling on
OS X remains in the 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 era. Fine, if you use old apps.
    Good luck!

  • Adaptor won't power my PB: the battery is running out!

I was wondering if anyone found a solution to the problem below that I found in this forum. I am having the same problem and don't know what to do. Just wish that this wasn't an internal problem.
    ========================================================
I've got a 1.33Ghz PowerBook G4 15" and I am having problems with the AC adaptor.
When I plug the adaptor in, the light on the adaptor turns orange but won't charge the battery or power the computer - it will only run from the battery. If I wiggle the connector where it plugs into the computer then the light goes green but still won't power the computer.
The connector where it plugs into the computer feels quite loose, do you think replacing it would work, or is it an internal problem?

When you say connector are you referring to the port that you plug the adaptor into ON the computer? THAT is loose? Or are you talking about the plug part?
Did you ever get your problem resolved?
All of a sudden I'm having an issue when I plug the adaptor into the port it glows for a brief second and then it stops, so it's not powering or charging my powerbook. I can't use it because there is only 4% battery life left. I don't know if it''s the adaptor or the PB itself...nothing is loose. But I'm a little annoyed because this computer has only been lightly used as a backup, so it's practically brand new and a little premature for things to just stop working...
I can't remember what OS and I can't check right now. It's over a year old.

  • Battery won't Charge is it Adaptor or Battery?

My AC Adaptor is correctly plugged in to my iBook, the light turns either amber or dark red like it usually is when it's charging, but the battery won't charge. The light's on the battery don't turn on and the computer won't turn on since the battery is dead. When I press on the battery button quick green flashes happen saying it's dead, so my question IS THE BATTERY DEAD OR IS MY ADAPTOR BROKEN?

This is turning out to be an epidemic. I have an ibook G4 800 and it started doing the same thing a couple days ago. I have another ibook that I charge the battery in, then put it in the G4. Noticed my battery wasn't charging, however MacBook was running off the power adaptor. Now it seems the battery has lost all charge and it won't turn on. Should I just buy a new battery, or should it run off the adaptor and I'm looking at a more serious problem?

  • New Mac's battery charge percentage drop quick using AC adaptor 24/7, should I be worried?

I use my mac with AC adaptor 24/7, but the battery capacity drop 4% in 3 days... should I be worried? Is it some kind of hardware problem?

    Hi,
Well, it's only England, so no extreme temperatures, but I can see my breath in the morning when the heater hasn't been on! I didn't think it would be too cold, but seeing some other posts wondered if that could be a contributing factor, being the unusually cold weather here over the past two/three weeks.
I'm just panicking in case my battery or charger is about to go, just when I really need them.
I'll calibrate the battery -- which is something I wasn't aware of until reading this forum today.
The problem is, I'm traveling to the Caribbean to the opposite temperature problems may arise -- to hot and humid. I think I'll buy an extra battery to be on the safe side.
At least neither of you has said: 'oh dear, that sounds like a failing battery.' So I'm a little less panicked now. I'll keep an eye on it and post back if anything dire happens over the next few days.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
    Cheers,
    Tracy
