Battery almost dead - what's going on?

Hi everyone,
I purchased an x61 less than a year ago, and suddenly in the last two weeks, the time I could work on battery seemed shorter and shorter. At the moment the battery cannot hold more than 1.5 hours (with computer idling and the CPU almost not used)
The battery is 8-cell, and my laptop is an x61 7675-H7U, what should I do? This is a real problem for me and a huge disapointment to have to deal with this on such a new piece of hardware.
For information, here is the battery state (I run GNU/Linux by the way)
present: yes
design capacity: 74880 mWh
last full capacity: 20910 mWh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 14400 mV
design capacity warning: 1045 mWh
design capacity low: 200 mWh
capacity granularity 1: 1 mWh
capacity granularity 2: 1 mWh
model number: 93P5030
serial number: 6432
battery type: LION
OEM info: SONY
(~) % cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: charged
present rate: 0 mW
remaining capacity: 20690 mWh
present voltage: 16512 mV
As you can see it cannot reach even the third of what it's supposed to hold...
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the quick answer, I had a look at the warranty and I'm completely puzzled now.
I bought my x61 in the USA and I currently live in the Netherlands. Now, when I check the warranty information located here : it tells me the following
Type: 7675
Model:KC1
Serial number: LVxxxxx
Status: In warranty
Expiration date: 2009-04-11
Location:  CHINA
which I don't understand:
- why China???
- my type is 7675-H7U, what is this KC1 ???
Last but not least, reading a bit about IWS, I'm not sure if I need this, but if I do, entering my information gives me only a list of countries in America or Asia.
What can I do?
Thanks

  • Mb shuts down on battery almost dead

    Hi,
when the battery is almost dead, with few more minutes of life, the black macbook, (which i've just got back from assistance for a random shutdown!!) shuts down instead of sleeping...
should i go to assistance again?
    tom
black macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

In previous Mac notebooks this problem was resolved by recalibrating the battery and/or resetting the power manager. I'd recommend that you reset the power manager first and see if that resolves the problem. If not, then recalibrate the battery too.
To reset the MacBook power manager:
    1) If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2) Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
    3) Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
    4) Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
    5) Press the Power button to restart the computer.
    To calibrate the MacBook battery
    1. Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
    2. Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
    3. Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
    4. Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
    5. Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
    6. Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.

  • My Iphone 4 battery went dead what can I do?

Forgot my iPhone at home when I went on holidays. When I cam back my battery is dead and wish to know what can I do to recharge it, I have a charger and a computer? Can you help please.

Do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.

  • Battery almost dead in morning after charge

Last night, I charged my nano on my laptop for at least three hours.
I saw that the battery had the lightning bolt, then before I went to bed, it had the "plug" icon in the battery indicating it was charged.
I removed the USB cable from both the PC and nano and went to bed. Nano was NOT playing anything. I just let it go to sleep.
Today, after only using nano about 2 hours, the battery went red.
Why? Shouldn't nano have gone to sleep only to awake today excited about giving me 14 hours of musical enjoyment ?
Do you HAVE to power it down manually?
I honestly don't know if it has ever charged or not. I've only had it since last Saturday and have used it maybe about 10 hours of total time (sounds like about the right amount of time before RED battery indicator).
I have seen people talking about USB 1 vs. USB 2. I sync nano at home on my PC which does have USB 2 (and the speed to go with it). But I charge it on the road with my laptop which has USB 1.1. My PocketPC charges just fine on my laptop and, nano shows the correct icons for charging when plugged into my laptop.
Could I have a defective nano?
    Thanks!

I have also been having the same exact problem and was wondering if my nano was defective/in need of repair.
I have never held down the play/pause button to turn off the iPod, so this is something I will try tonight, but as the original poster stated, isn't the iPod supposed to go into sleep mode automatically when there is no song playing? (Or some kind of power saving mode)
I would understand the power drain, if there were background processes being active on the nano, such as alarm or a really long backlight, but I made sure no processes were going on, that there was nothing playing and that the screen went completely blank after a few minutes.
So should I try contacting Customer Service to replace my nano?
    Thanks for your help.

  • My ipod got stuck on an app an wont return to the home screen now it is almost dead but wont turn off what shuld i do?

my ipod got stuck in an app an now it wont close out, its now almost dead but wont turn off what shuld i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • After changing the battery in my iphone 4s, the phone will not boot up. I only see the apple and when it sits for a few minutes, a code shows above it. What is going on? Did I damage the phone by replacing the battery?

My sister gave me her iphone 4s for my son. It needed a new battery so, I bought one and replaced it. after doing so, it will not power up. I can only see the apple on the screen and when left for a few minutes.... 10 lines of numbers and codes show up at the top of the screen. Did I ruin the iphone by replacing the battery? Was a simple switch so I don't understand what is going on. Have never had one of these before.

    iPhones are not user servicable.
Take the device to a competent repair person or buy a new one.

  • My ipod 60gb classic is showing as fully charged until I connect it to my pc when it comes up with the error message, 'please wait very low battery' and the little wheel goes round and nothing happens, can anyone explain why this is and what i can do?

My ipod 60gb classic is showing as fully charged until I connect it to my pc when it comes up with the error message, 'please wait very low battery' and the little wheel goes round and nothing happens, can anyone explain why this is and what i can do?

I have worked my way through the assistant and nothing works. I have tried connecting in disc mode but although the screen on the ipod is showing that the device is charged and that it is in disc mode as soon as I connect it to the computer it comes up with the error message 'please wait very low battery' and stays like that until I disconnect when it appears to be OK again. I have tried on both pc and mac.
BTW the ipod is an ipod video not classic if that makes any difference.
    Thanks

  • What is going on with 6.0.2 exchanged two phones today in store all with battery draining issue problem

Guys, what is going on two phones exchanged in store today all had battery draining problems once phone updated to iOS 6.0.2.
First phone wouldn't last 3 hours usage even in plane mode function.
Second phone bit better battery life 3 hours 15 minutes usage No Apps installed on both phone and location turn off even setup as new phone.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

Did you try to charge it using the adapter or your computer?
If you can, let it charge for about 15min, then connect in recovery mode, described in this article:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
If still not luck, your battery might have to be replaced:

  • TA44551 Just recently my ipod nano's battery seemed to stop working? I plug it into a charger, the ipod says it's charged, but when I take it off the charger, the screen goes black. What's going on? How can I fix it?

Just recently my ipod nano 4th generation's battery seems to be messed up? I plug it into the charger and the ipod says it's charged, but when I take it off the charger, the screen goes black. What is going on and how can I fix it? I'm really sad because it happened so suddenly.

Yes.  The battery appears to be shot and in need of a replacement.  This can either be done by Apple or a third party repair company.

You can Google "iPod battery replacement" for third party service centers.

  • HT1338 What's going on with iCloud (MobileMe)?  I'm able to sign in here, but I can't access mail on my Macbook Pro, iPhone, or work computer.  I always get an authorization error (user-id or passwork wrong).  This has been going on for almost a week now.

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
    - connecting the iPad to your Mac
    - selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
    - selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there  then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • HT1476 when is it best to charge the battery, when it is completly dead, almost dead or at any time you want a full chargre?

When is it best to charge your battery for and Ipot touch 4th generation? when it is completly dead, almost dead, or any time you want full charge.

Letting the battery completly drain is not that good. Otherwise, just charge when you want.
