Battery always says full, but is it?

The battery indicator is always full when it is connected to the computer, the wall charger, and the Pioneer car adapter. The problem is, when I disconnect it from any of the 3 sources, it instantly shuts down. When I reconnect it, the apple icon comes up, them goes back to charging only to get right back to the battery full indicator.
A few times, I can get 30 minutes out of it if I am lucky before it shuts down again.
Any help is greatly appreciated

okay thanks for the help so far.
I ran the diagnostics like you suggested, here goes:
ID = 0X57
VCC = 796 (4864mV)
BATT = 528 (4236mV)
ACC = 255
The ChargingADC Test says 0, with the other numbers changing the 2 times I have done it.
Ibat says Pass
I have had this ipod since June of 06. I use it 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, and very little on the weekends.
The battery charge indicator in the upper right corner ALWAYS says fully charged, but as soon as I disconnect the power, the screen "melts".
I don't have my 1500 songs in my itunes library, but my videos, and photos are on my pc. I don't want to have to burn all my cds again, that took quite some time the first time.
If I have to replace the battery, I don't care, but I dont want to lose my songs. But, should I have to replace the battery already?

  • Laptop battery always on full, 100% when connected to AC

    Hi,
    I usually use my laptop on AC with battery removed. Last week I used it from battery, then connected the laptop to AC. If I remember correctly battery started to discharge to 90 something percent after a while, but now it is always on full.
    acpi -b
    Battery 0: Full, 100%
    I have the following packages installed:
    local/laptop-mode-tools 1.61-2
    local/acpi 1.6-1
    local/acpid 2.0.16-3
    local/linux 3.5.3-1
    My question: is it fine to have the battery always on full? Or was it better when it was charging/discharging automatically?
    Thanks

    Let me clarify myself. When the battery is in place and the laptop is running from AC, sooner or later you will see that the battery is fully charged. When this fully charged status has been accomplished, charging stops and battery starts discharging (let's say from 100% to 95%) then charging starts again. I think that was the way it worked some weeks ago. My experience in this very moment is that battery is reported to be fully charged. Always. No drop from 100%.
    I think the charger electronic prevent the battery from overcharge, but I don't know why is the change in the behavior described above. Was it a bug and now it's fixed or now we have a bug.
    Anyway, people contradict each other how to prolong the health of a battery, but I found that usually they say if one usually uses a laptop from AC the best thing is to remove the battery when charged to 50-60% and store in a dry place, and from time to time it's advised to charge/discharge it.
    Uh... what make is your laptop, for example I'm using a Compaq laptop so my laptop has a big Compaq at the base of the screen and nice big Q on the back.  I wouldn't be surprised if your laptop is a Dell.  Google for product reviews for your laptop:  So, since my laptop is a Compaq and it's a CQ60-420US
    I'd type
    CQ60-420us battery charge/discharge behavior
    or something like that into the address bar for chromium, and then press enter.
    EDIT:  The best way to use/store a battery, and you can quote me on this 'cause I took a Electrical engineering class last semester and know what I'm talking about, is to just charge it all the way up and then use it till it's almost out of battery power.  If you charge it when it's at half capacity it will eventually do bad stuff to the battery, or something like that.  Anyway, it's just healthier for the battery to have the chance to fully discharge per every full recharge.  You don't have to let it go all the way to 0%, 'cause your laptop will probably cut off if you do that, so let it get as close to zero as you feel comfortable with.
    A good program for keeping an eye on power stuff is wmacpi.  It's what I use, since conky isn't reliable on my hardware when it comes to the battery.  Install it thusly:
    packer -S wmacpi
    and run it thusly:
    $ wmacpi
    If you use openbox, like I do, you can add the following line to your ~/.config/openbox/autostart file.
    wmacpi &
    Here's an image of wmacpi showing a laptop being run off AC power.

  • IPod wont sync, battery always says it's charged, etc...

    I got my iPod classic around December 2005, everything was fine until a few days ago, Christmas day to be exact. I had transferred my music to an external hard drive so as not to take up so much space on my laptop. I plugged in my hard drive, after not using it for a month or so, opened iTunes and 3/4 of my songs had that little next to them and the files could not be found. I plugged my iPod into the computer and it just came up with the red circle with the line through it and said "Do not disconnect" it won't sync anything and will only go back to a normal screen when I eject it. It does this on my desktop computer as well. Aslp the battery always says it's charged, I never know when I need to charge it until it dies. I plug it in to charge it and the battery icon always has the lightning bolt, but the battery gauge always says it's full. I had 500 songs and, I only about 100 with out the little next to it. Am I SOL or can this be fixed?

    I bought a new ipod

  • Wrong Battery level. Always says "Full Battery".

    Hi, I have problem with Battery Level.
    Voice Over always says "Battery Full" and before player dies he says "Battery Low". It's 3rd time when I charge to full iPod with power-usb connector. And is the same.
    When I bought him, once he sayed 75%.
    It starts to be quite annoying... Now I'm listening 3rd day iPod, and I feel that I will soon see the red blinking, but at the moment he still says "Battery Full" and blink once with green light.
    Do I should change my iPod, or i should wait for more charges ?

    Yes, every time. After 3 charges he starts to saying 75%. But next level is "Battery Low". So maybe after couple more charges he will starts to speak normally. But I'm afraid that it's not normal, so next week I'll go to the store and try to change him.

    i have a iphone 5c. the battery indicator icon on top says 100% but the icon is a batter but its all black not green. is that right? should it be all green?

    You need to make an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar to have it evaluated by the techs there. We are just users like you and cannot possibly diagnose what's wrong with your phone without looking at it.

  • HD says full, but is not

    Mac G5 (pre-Intel) w/ OSX 10.5.6
    Says HD is full. It can't be! Deleted everything but 5g of programs, and 44g of music on a 150g HD.
    When I leave it on, the HD "becomes full."
    Several genius bar visits, backed up to ext. HD... still happens.
    Am I missing something? A setting somewhere?
    <Edited by Moderator>

    I am not using FileVault, but I DO visit a lot of Scandinavian pornsites.
    Just kidding (but not really).
    This problem acts like a downloaded virus that gives false readings about HD space.
    Is there no way to go in and view things like scraps of edited videos and such like I can on a Win machine? I think if I could just llok at the HD, I could see what is "filling" it.
    But I can't even run utilities: disk erase because the temp file fails to write.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:

    Backing up, Updating and Restoring

    If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
    Be sure to make an appointment first...
    With regard to the Battery...
    For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down

  • When I shuffle songs it always say battery is dead even thought it has a full charge

    Does anyone have an answer for this
    My Battery has a full charge, so I go to shuffle the songs and it tells me to connect to charger, because battery is to low.

    It should not be possible for the red "no battery remaining" and the green battery icon to be showing at the same time, so try a Reset of your iPod to see if that sorts out the issue.
    If it doesn't, you may need to perform a Restore, but be aware that the Restore will delete everything on your device and put back only what is in your Library.

  • Macbook Pro battery is not charging but the battery meter is full

    Hi guys!
    I have a 19 months macbook pro. I've tried using 2 different AC adapter but my mac's battery is still at 0% and the status says "Battery is not charging". I think my battery is dead but the LED battery indicator on my battery shows 5 lights, means its at full power.
    I've tried to disconnect the AC cable and remove the battery, then press the power button for 10 sec but nothing change when i start my mac again...i also tried to reset my PRAM ( i think ) by holding a cmdopt+PR while rebooting but it didn't help to solve the problem too. I also have the battery update 1.2 installed on my mac and the results is still the same.
    This is my battery info from system profiler. I hope someone can tell me what to do before I visit the Apple store.

    Hello,
    I am having some strange battery behavior. I bought a FastMac TruePower Battery that is supposed to have extended capacity. Now when the battery dies, i plug in my MagSafe to charge it and it immediately says 'not charging', but then begins to charge. It either continues to charge and gets stuck at 80% or so and reads "calculating" in the menu bar, or just jumps between 'charging' and 'not charging'. The symptoms are very strange, and FastMac already sent this battery back saying it passes all of their tests. I do not want to send it back again because they charged me to send it back to myself even though it still does not work as advertised. I have my original Macbook Pro Apple battery which still charges fine, so i assume it is a problem with the battery based on a simple process of elimination.

    Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions,
    Did you get the flash drive from a reliable source. There are some available on the net that show a large capacity but are only 512 mb. or 1 gb. drives that have been altered to display a much larger capacity.
    Good luck,
