Battery and heating problem

Hi, recently my macbook has been heating up fast. Real fast, within 5 minutes of starting up my macbook, i can hear the fan running at high speed. And my battery life has significantly been shorten as well. At full charge, it can last me to a maximum of 2 hours. Anyone can help? I got my Macbook in 2007.

  • BOSD, Battery issues and Heating problem after iOS 8 upgrade

i have upgraded my iPad mini to iOS 8. Ever since I upgraded to iOS 8 am facing blue screen issues and heating problem as well. This is really frustrating even the patch iOS 8.0.2 dint solve the problem. Are you guys listening our complaints. When will you fixing it.

The same thing happened to me on my 2012 Subaru Outback.  I'm not sure this will help you since you have a Honda, but I'm posting this just in case.
I paired the audio on my car with my iPhone 6.  However, when I turned the car off and back on again, the iPhone would not pair automatically.  I had to manually connect the iPhone with the car.  Turns out there are two separate bluetooth pairings on my car: one for phone which allows up to 5 devices and one for audio which allows only one device.  So I did the second bluetooth pairing for the phone (had already done the audio), and that fixed it.  YMMV

  • Relationship between battery and overheating problems?

I have several questions related to my battery.
    1) Looking at the sales page, one of the reviews says apple will replace the battery for free. I assume this reviewer is still under warrantee (which I am not, unfortunately). If there's any truth to this statement (e.g. for a while apple was replacing failed hard drives on 13" macbooks purchased around the time I bought mine. i found this out after my 3rd hard drive failure in 18 months) I would really really like to know.
    2) My battery is warped. One topic here about a warped battery says to replace it immediately, but I asked the last time I was at a genius bar (for the 2nd hard drive replacement) and they said a warped battery was no problem. I asked explicitly.
    3) HOWEVER, my laptop has a heating issue. I have been under the impression that this is standard for macbooks, so I didn't think much about it before my first hard drive failure. Now, I watch the temperature closely and have a program that lets me increase the fan speed, but sometimes the temperature can shoot up unexpectedly. Normally, i try to keep the temp ~60C, which is still like twice the recommended temperature. I'm afraid the heating problem precipitates the hard drive failure. On a whim, I took out my battery today and immediately the computer ran more stably around 60C temperature. If I put the battery back in, the temperature shoots right up again (say, if I'm watching a video). What is the relationship here? Is it a known issue? Is there any way to get them to replace the battery without me having to shell out $120?
For reference, here's the current battery info:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 4526
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4559
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 179
    Condition: Good
    P. S. I almost always run the laptop of the adapter rather than the battery -- I basically only use the battery to work when I'm traveling (several times a year) or in order to transport the laptop without turning it off (pretty much daily). I assume this is why the condition is good. Also, I've never calibrated it. Huh, also this is an interesting part of a reply from someone else's thread: "you should know that Applecare doesn't cover the battery, it is specifically excluded unless it's defective." I actually was sold the extended applecare on the premise that it only cost a little more than a new battery and I probably would need a new battery before the warrantee expired. Funny.

One could probably make the argument that the fact that the battery is bulging while system profiler says that it is still good is an indication that the battery is defective. Be polite but insistent, especially since your computer is still under warranty.

  • Download, battery, and sleep problems on macbook pro with retina display after upgrading to Mountain lion

After waiting a few days to download OS X Mountain lion, I finally installed it on my new MacBook with retina display a couple days ago. I love the interface and all the new features, but I've noticed some problems I really need to resolve. I'm constantly downloading large files and I noticed thhis change:
Before, on Lion, I could download files from Safari or the Internet and the computer would sleep whenever it was set to on energy preferences and the download would resume. This would let the computer conserve energy so the download could progress further when on battery. Now, I noticed that my computer never goes to sleep! Its set to have the display sleep in 5 minutes and the computer in 15 on both battery and when plugged in, but it never does either. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that power nap is on even when using battery. So now the Mac is constantly on when downloading something and instead of downloading a one gigabyte file that would take up 15% of my battery, it takes up 60% since it never sleeps. When I tried downloading something and then manually putting the computer to sleep, the download was interrupted and it said Wi-Fi connection lost so I have to start the download over again.
That's basically all three problems in one situation. I even put the brightness all the way on low so the screen is black when downloading, but it still uses up much more battery than before. Can someone help find a solution?

Did you try turning off power nap?

    Hi Bevmatt,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that your G505s Laptop is not turning ON when the Battery is plugged-In, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power, below are the steps to perform the same:
Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists, I would strongly suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

  • My laptop is consuming all battery and heating to much

Hi.. I'm running Archlinux on a HP Pavilion dv6 6154nr. Since I'd installed on it, it consumes around 25-30W and battery last like 1 hour, or and 1 hour and a half, when in Windows battery last like 2 hours or 3. CPU is heat like 64⁰C and im just running chromium with 5 tabs, without flash, and a terminal on Xmonad.
I have done every tutorial on archwiki, i have installed and configurated cpufrequtils, laptopmode, pm-utils, and it stills heating a lot.

  • 7.0.3 battery and startup problems on ipad

Since I did the 7.0.3 update, two problems have arisen on my ipad 4.
The first is that my battery drains fast when not in use.  It used to be that if my ipad were left alone, unplugged and on but not in use, the battery barely drained.  But now it drains like I've been watching movies on it all day.  The first day after the update, it sat on the counter most of the day unused, and it shut down because the battery completely drained out.  It's been like that since. I have to turn it off now, when not in use.
Also, when I turn my ipad on, it takes forever to start up.  It just sits with the apple icon on the screen and it's like that for so long, I think it's locked up.  Eventually, it comes up.  This happens every time.
Since I never had these problems before, I'm assuming that it's a result of the update.  Prior to the 7.0.3 update, I had done the previous version 7 updates and have been using it with no trouble.  So this wasn't an update from version 6 to 7.  Please let me know if you have any ideas, thanks.

Two things that might help. Reset all your settings and reset the phone.  Use the Settings app to reset all settings. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings  Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that helps.
As far as the battery usage, check your settings. The iOS 7 update adds new features and turns them on. You may not need all of them to be on. There are many threads in this form with suggestions for reducing battery usage.

  • Hard drive, battery, and software problems

I am having a ton of problems with my macbook pro 2010
My most urgent problem is my harddrive. It was able to boot but it was a lot slower than the usual 15 seconds. Today it stayed on a white screen with a loading circle (like in the top left of the iPhone) for about 3 minutes. After that I held down the power button to restart and the boot took about a minute. After I logged in I sat staring at the pinwheel and eventually the dock popped up. I opened up the applications I needed (Safari, Preview, Activity Monitor and Evernote) and the icons just bounced for a while. When the apps opened they said I had nothing saved until I reopened the windows. I have not had a problem with that before. My HD had 66Gb free and the Activity Monitor shows about 2gb of Ram and 80-90% of the CPU  free. It has also been running very slowly saving and opening files. I did a disk verification and it said that the HD is corrupt and needs to be repaired in recovery mode. I have everything backed up to time machine, but it has had alot of trouble doing even that. My recent backups have taken about 15 minutes(~500mb), most of that time spent preparing backup.
Will I need an HD replacement?
Problem number 2 is the battery. It seemed to suddenly get worse this weekend. I use my macbook for school and usually I can get through the whole day with 60 percent left. My day usually consists of taking notes or reading from an online textbook, checking news and some other web browsing. It is 9AM and I am down to 65% from 100. I even had it in sleep for about 20 minutes and that used 2%. The system info app said the battery was in normal condition but for  some reason it doesnt hold a charge as well. Usually I only have 2-3 apps open and the brightness is a bit over half way.
I have a couple of minor software issues I would also like to take care of. Half the time I login I get a black screen except for the clock in the top right. When I move my mouse it reveals a normal login screen identical to my mouse movements. It is sort of like those black peices of paper that when you write on them it shows silver or somthing.  When I search in spotlight it always says indexing at the bottom. Doesnt affect anything but it is weird. Last thing is that sometimes when I download somthing it says my disk is full. That might go long with it being corrupt but it is very annoying because i have to try it again a few times before I can use the file. As i mentioned before I have 66gb free and this can happen with simple pages docs

Open Disk Utility>First Aid and run 'Verify' and 'Repair' Disk. That may solve that problem.
Regarding the battery, see if any of the information contained in this article will help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
Your software issues may be a reflection of a corrupt HDD.  Attend the to internal HDD and then see if the software issues still persist.
    Ciao.

  • [SOLVED] linux-grsec on macbook pro 9,2 - battery and network problems

I have a macbook pro 9,2 on which I am dual booting OS X and arch. I am using xfce as my DE on the arch installation. Since installing and switching over to linux-grsec, my system seems unable to detect the presence of a battery (specifically my arch system - OS X still detects my battery just fine). The xfce battery monitor panel icon sits at 50% and does not change regardless of whether AC power is connected or not. Xfce power manager can detect whether or not the computer is receiving AC power, but does not show the existence of a battery. Running
    # acpi -b
yields an empty output, as does running
    # dmesg | grep -i battery
These methods all properly detected my battery prior to the installation of linux-grsec. I was unable to find any similar problems via google or the arch forums, and find myself at a loss for where to look to learn what I need to do to resolve this. I would very much like to avoid returning to the default kernel, if possible. I appreciate any assistance that you can offer, though if given a choice I would prefer the means to figure out the answer over the answer itself.

    Update:
Regarding the battery: I have determined that the update I performed had nothing to do with the detection of my battery. Arch detects my battery when AC power is connected during bootup (and continues to detect it even if I remove AC power after bootup), and does not detect my battery if AC power is not connected during bootup (and continues to not detect it even if AC power is connected after bootup). I did not notice before because by coincidence I started using my macbook without the power cord attached at the same time that I installed linux-grsec. Now that the problem is more clear and specific, I am migrating it to its own post found here.
Regarding bandwidth usage: Conky and Network Manager failing to display bandwidth usage actually occured immediately after switching to linux-grsec, I just did not notice this failure at first. The problem ended up being quite simple. Unbeknownst to me, linux-grsec changed my wireless interface name from wlp2s0 to wlp2s0b1. Network Manager and Conky were therefore failing to display bandwidth usage because they were both using wlp2s0 instead of wlp2s0b1. Correcting the interface name in .conkyrc and the network applet settings fixed the problem.

  • Pavilion Dv7 7023cl: Battery and networking problems.

Hello. My Pavilion Dv7 7023cl has been going downhill for the past few months, but I've been planning on purchasing a new hard drive for it, since my current one is failing. However, I'll get to the point.  For some reason, and some how, the battery is locked into place, with the slider pushed all the way right. There is an orange picture of a square with an arrow to the extreme left. I need help fixing this since I need to clean the fan vents, as the computer is reaching 82 degrees Celsius... The second issue is that the internet key is showing an orange light. I've tried resetting the BIOS settings, rebooting, and pressing every single key on my keyboard. Still no luck.  The third is that it's overheating often, regardless of if the vents are clean or not. It may possibly be the fan, but...  Unfortunately, the computer is not under warranty anymore.  Here are the specifications:The processor is an AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon HD graphics. It claims to be 1.9 Ghz, but it always run at 3.0. It's not overclocked.I have 8GBs of R.A.M. with only 2GBs left. Don't ask me how.It scores a 5.9 on the Windows Performance Index, based on the 5.9 rating of my Disk Data Transfer Rate.4 cores, 4 logical processors.

DV 9000 series has same problem. Apparently so do most of their Laptops. My wife and kids have all been burned by haveing the system on their laps. I only use at a table and had to build a special base to raise the system off the table
to allow all vents to be clear 2  inches.
I had them send me restore disks for other reasons. Now my bios says "Not Vista".
If I was you, I would cut my loses and move to an other manufacturer. get the extended warrenty and keep it up to date
Hp is no longer even on my list of possible product purchases. Their products and if you want that, support service, suck.

  • Please fix battery and slowdown problems with ios4.3.1(8G4)

similar to the cases other users facing, my iphone4 with ios 4.3.1 consumes 30% of battery overnight with all apps closed. it also became super slow when gaming (other apps closed) and responseless when surfing.
Really bad experiences, please fix them!

You are posting in a user-to-user help forum. It's not a bug reporting forum or a complaint forum. If you have problems or suggestions for Apple report them at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
From what i've seen your experience with 4.3.1 on your phone isn't typical. You should do a clean install of 4.3.1 to see if this clears up your performance problems.

  • Firmware Update 1.7 drains battery and causes problems for sound

I have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with a SSD. After installing Firmware 1.7 I saw the beach ball over and over even after rebooting... this problem got resolved after I plugged in power cable and is now gone even when it is running on battery. But the sound of my MBP goes randomly on/off when I plug in/out my headphones and the worst problem is that prior to the 1.7 I got up to 5 hours of battery but now only 2:30 hours. I've only 470 cycles of my battery. Resseting the SMC didn't help and unfortuaneltly there is no way of downgrading the firmware. What should I do?? This is definietly a firmware problem which supposedly was released to solve a rare battery problem on some machines not to cause problems on others.

I am seeing this problem as well.
Before the SMC Update 1.7 the battery was fine. After, it hibernated within a half hour of use on battery. Upon wake-up the Service Battery warning is in the battery menu, and the time remaining calculation has gone from several hours at a full charge to less than 10 minutes.
My battery is original MacBookPro8,2; I rarely work on battery, relying on it mostly to keep my computer going while asleep during a half hour commute to/from work. System Information's Power tab reports
    Cycle Count:          19
I plan to try a battery calibration soon; if that fails, then the Apple Store.

  • Battery and charging problems.

So I have had my iPhone 3G for roughly a year now. I have started to notice that my battery is losing life quicker. Not only that, but last night my usb wall charger stopped working and I have to charge my phone through the computer, which I hate doing. Has any one else experienced these problems? If so, how did you fix them?

I followed the articles and advice on the troubleshooting tips on the apple.com website to help extend battery life. There are several settings that can be turned off. My problem is that my new phone battery is only lasting a few hours (and that's without use). I have had this problem now with 2 different iPhones - and the apple store has thought its been a "runaway app" as the usage time has been really high even when I haven't used the phone. So frustrating because my new phone does not have any apps loaded on it except for what came on it. I'm trying to figure out if I'm not charging it correctly (but it indicates that the battery is full!).
