Battery Bay for W520 (4270CTO)

Hello everyone,
I would like to purchase a battery bay for my W520 (4270CTO) and I have noticed that there are different battery bay models. Is it possible for you to tell me if there are any compatible battery bays for my laptop?

from what i see, the only W that supports a 3-cell bay battery is the W500.
part numbers: 57Y4536 or 0A36310. battery types 42 or 43, respectively.
similarly, those batteries are supported in the T500, but not beyond. in the T4xx series, beyond the T400 they are only listed as compatible with the T410s, T420s and T430s models.
regards.

  • New Thinkpad W520 4270CTO does not Post

I have had a lenovo thinkpad w520 4270cto for about 2 weeks that no longer works. Pressing the power button turns the machine on and the lights flash on for a second then turn off. The ring around the power button stays lit and the fan sometimes stays. Some heat can be felt coming out the exhaust.
    Troubleshooting:
Removing hard drives - no change
using just 1 memory stick - no change
remove battery and ac power while trying to turn on 10 to 30 times and then plugging power back in - no change
disconnect the CMOS battery for an hour, connect it afterwards - no change
I have called the support number 1-800-426-7378 given to me the the online support chat person and was told the motherboard will need to be replaced. I will receive a box on wednesday and was told to expect 6 business days before i would have it back, hopefully in working condition. This laptop will be going to a ezserve depot.
EDIT: I was told by the phone operator that i did not need to have the battery, adapter, hard drives installed when i ship it can someone please comfirm that? I've read on another forum of a user who ran into difficulty because he did not include all the hardware.  linked here: http://www.pcmech.com/forum/tablets-smartphones-mobile-devices/210578-avoid-lenovo-ezserv-depot-repa...

I have received my Thinkpad w520 4270cto and it appears the motherboard was the problem. They replaced it and it is now in working condition. Thank you for the prompt support lenovo/ibm.
    Update: 12/28/2011
It appears my thinkpad has a giant scratch across the back of the LCD case that was not there before i sent it. I had not noticed it yesterday due to poor lighting. Also the backlight failed to turn on until i rebooted the computer twice.

  • Best SSD for w520 quad core

i have a Crucial C300 128gig in my dock slot now with the factory 500 gig in the hdd slot... the crucial sucks. any good one that works great with the w520, i know a lot are problematic.

Storeagereivew.com did a comparison test of the intel 520 SSD vs Intel 510 vs corsair P 3 vs Crucial C300 in a 2 SSD RAID configuration in a Lenovo W520:

Intel is known for its reliability.
I also heard from Lenovo that the BIOS team found the issue causing the warm boot delay with Intel 510 SSD, but it will take a while to fix (perhaps a couple months).

  • W520 - 4270CTO No Modem?

    Hi,
From doing a little forum research, I see that many people do not have the telephone modem installed since there is a "blank" where the modem jack is supposed to be. One person who received their W520(4270CTO) around April did get a modem however. I ordered mine mid-May of this year, and I did not get one.
I also found out the representatives that the forum members spoke to said the W520 doesn't come with the modem anymore. So it comes very strange to me that even though the "gallery of pictures" for the W520 on the Lenovo website clearly details there is a modem jack (and thus a modem) and the fact that a member did have a modem installed, there isn't a modem on mine and for some others!
Can anyone give me a good response to why this is so? Thanks.

That's because you are buying a custom variant model. The issue is with the configurator that is on the retail website. There is no option to add/delete the modem. All CTO W520 are MT 4270. I decided to buy the USB modem so that I would at least have a backup incase the broadband went inop. Admittedly, that hasn't happened for years now, but I still liked the security of a dial backup.

  • Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro?

Where can I buy a genuine apple replacement battery (A1309) for my Mid 2010 17" Macbook Pro? There are used batteries on ebay that don't appear genuine. There are some third-party knock offs. The apple store seems to believe they can replace it, but I have to make a reservation at the silly Genius Bar just to have them tell me how much it's gonna cost, not to mention then likely wait for them to order the battery and install it. I'm perfectly capable of installing it myself. I just need to know where I can order it?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Yeah, that's what I've finally decided. I was kidna super frustrated because the first apple store I called wouldn't even tell me a price or tell me if they could replace the battery without a Genius Bar appointment, and as I would have to take off work and drive acros town--and I don't have a car so I'd have to borrow one--that was pretty annoying. That call left me pricing linux laptops. I called another store to see if I'd have better luck, and the initial answer was the same, but the girl relented under some trying-to-be-nice-but-clearly-annoyed pressure, and she gave me the answers I needed: yes, they should have the battery in stock and it should be a same-day replacement that should cost $179.
It just *****, really, because there's so much about Apple that I used to love, and I'm watching it kinda melt away under their success in the mobile market. As a professional user, there's less and less reason to stick with them. Instead of being the best they can be, I feel like they're just trying to be flashier and just a little better than the other mediocre computer companies. Ugh. Anyway, now I'm ranting.

    Hi,
Be sure that the battery is fully charge then try the following:
Hit the ESC key after power on to bring up the Start up Menu and then select System Diagnostics (F2).  Now run the battery test.
If the battery is OK then try the below suggestion:
Go to the Control Panel ----> Power Options and then select the HP Power Manager on the left column.  You can then select one of the power plans and see the effects on battery life.
Depending on the power plan selected and what applications your are running, you may not get more than one hour on battery.

  • Forget the battery issue for a moment,

I think the battery issue will be fixed, I think there are many reasons for it, I'm not going to speculate. What I would like to know is if you can forget the battery issue for a moment, What do you think of the 4S itself, the camera, mirroring onto apple tv etc...have you been happy with the phone and its functions and if it didn't have a battery issue right now would you reccomend it? I'm thinking about buying two of them and that is a substantial investment, just wondering if it's everything its cracked up to be...Thanks!

Yeah it's a good phone.  It's my first iPhone.  I came from a Droid Bionic, so I am use to no battery life.  I usually charge it at my desk at work and it last all night until I get back to work.  I listen to music on my car, so it's tied to the USB input to my car, so I don't really have an issue with the battery.
The camera is really good.  For a point and click, it's fast and the pictures are clear.  They only thing I run into, which is on every phone camera is smudges on the lense.
It took a lot of getting use to going from the Bionic 4.3" screen to the 3.5" screen.
I don't have the Aple TV set up, so I can't answer that.
What I like about Apple products?  They work.  Very simply, they just work.

  • What is a good external battery pack for a 13" retina display?

what is a good external battery pack  for my 13" retina display(macbook)

Have a look here for the sizes and prices.
It is however, much better to get a USB external drive that comes with it's own power adapter to avoid issues when or if your USB port can't supply enough power to your external drive.
That issue however does happen rarely but it does happen.  Especially when connecting other devices to your other USB port while your external hard drive is connected to your other usb port.

    Hi,
I would like to ask you a question.
a month ago I bought a battery case for iPhone 5 and it worked properly until I installed iOS 7. From that day my iphone is operating normally, BUT when the battery is empty, unfortunately I can not charge additionally my iphone with the "extra battery case".
Does that mean that you did not even create a new software that supports additional battery case or it is something else?
    I need your help!!,
    Thank you in advance.
    Sincerely,
    VK

The Mophie Air is a good battery case, but doesn't offer the protection she's looking for. I suggest sticking to the Lifeproof, the iPhone has a very good battery (2-3 days moderate usage for me).
To your 2nd to last paragraph, that is false. Verizon is allowing exisiting customers to keep Unlimited Data - but will lose it once they use a subsidized upgrade. So if you buy a 4S (or LTE device for example) outright, you will keep unlimited data. Mobile hotspot may use up a bit of data, but it is a separate add-on/feature. The new Family Share plans may change that, so it's one giant center of data all devices use.

  • Low battery warning for my iMac keyboard

I keep getting a low battery warning for my iMac keyboard even when it has brand new batteries. Is there a way to switch this off or reset it so that it doesn't keep informing me?

Hello! I also have this problem. My keyboard is brand new and so also the batteries. I have tried with different types of batteries but get the same warning. I also have tried to erase the device in the bluetooth settings and add it again. Nothing works. It is a pity because I like mac.

If you want reliability and a battery that has a warranty, have Apple install it for you and pay the price.  If you want uncertainty and the possibility of a battery life of a month, a week or less, purchase a third party battery.
To date I have yet to see with certitude a genuine Apple replacement battery offered to the public.  I have seen many tales of woe of users who have purchased third party batteries and have regretted the decision.  Often in the long run, these purchases cost more than an Apple battery.  Search these forums and my view will be substantiated.
    Your choice.
