Battery Big Question Mark Symbol

My pre plus has suddenly developed a battery big question mark symbol. Any advice?

Battery symbol with a question mark indicates no battery present in the device. You can try cleaning the battery contacts with a pencil eraser, or replacing the battery.

I'm using a macbook pro, running snow leopard. Yesterday I got around to emptying my trash for the first time in quite awhile and was surprised by how much there seemed to be in there. Immediately after a question mark symbol appeared on all my hard disk folders. If I click on these question marks I get a message saying ' the item can't be found'.

Not sure where these hard disk folders are located that you are referring to?  Finder, Finder tool bar, Finder side bar, Desktop, Dock?
More then likely they are  an alias that not longer point to the orginals,  thus the question mark.
I would reboot.  Delete icons if an alias and just recreate by dragging from the source. Try right click (control) click to remove.

  • Unknown question mark symbol on Finder Window

    Hi  All,
I  have  noticed  an  awkward  question  mark  symbol  (?)  on  all  of  my  Finder  windows.
I  don't  understand  what  it  means  or  how  to  remove  it.
A  snapshot  of  the  problem  is  shown  below :
Please  note  the  grey  "Question  Mark - ?"  on  the  top  of  the  Finder  window.
Any  ideas  on  how  to  remove  the  mark ?
If  the  (?  symbol)  is  clicked  a  dialog  box  appears  saying  "The  item  can't  be  found".

    Yes. I  overlooked  this  matter.
I  was  actually  able  to  remove  the  symbol  by  (Command + drag out).
    The  symbol  is  gone !
    Thanks  for  the  helpful  tip.

  • Crazy question mark symbol appears on certain songs and I'm asked find

I get a question mark symbol on certain songs and a window pops up to find the song on my hard drive??? Help, this blows!

The odds are good that the file is still there. You can manually find the tune (this is a pain, & I'd love to know a better way of doing this).
In iTunes, under the iTunes menu, select preferences. Make sure tab in top left is "General". Look right under that for iTunes music folder location. That tells you where your music is.
When you get the file missing message say you'd like to locate it. Then navigate to that folder. iTunes generally organizes these things by artist, then album, then song, but sometimes the album will be in the compilations folder, and sometimes the artist will not be the album artist if there is more than one recognizable name on the song.
Check locations until you find the song & select it.
Sometimes it is easier to first browse the iTunes' folder directly from the finder finding where the tracks are, & then go directly there from iTunes.

  • Big question mark where iPhoto is

Hey I just bought a new iMac and I M new to iMac but when I first got the computer
Set up everything was fine but after I installed the applications disk and snow leopard there's a big question mark at the bottom where iPhoto should be and I can't open iPhoto. Any ideas on what to do?

Then you need to re-install the apps:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
For help re-installing iWeb, check on that forum.

  • Big Question Mark

We turned on our iMac this morning and there is just a big question mark on a folder. We are not able to do anything on the computer - it appears to be frozen.
    What should we do?

    Hi
Insert the installer Disk that came with the mac (the gray one), reboot and hold down the C key. At the language screen click the right arrow. At the next screen select Disk utility from the Utilities Menu. Can you see the internal hard drive any more?
If you can't the drive has failed and you need to replace it. If you don't have a backup you've lost all your data unless you want to pay for a Data Recovery Specialist and see if they can get the data off for you.
If you can see the hard drive select the Repair Disk option. Hopefully this might get things working again.
This is a question that has been asked many many times before. You could browse the forum for further options as to what to do thereafter. One useful resource is Apple's own User Tips Forum which is here:

  • BIG QUESTION-MARK ERROR on quicktime

Re: My Quicktime does not play any more. It gives a BIG QUESTION MARK at the middle of the screen with no error message at all...I have a new computer with Windows XP. Since I downloaded the new version of Quicktime 7, the free download one, this problem started. It was fine previously.
    Any suggetion for remedy
    Thank you
      Windows XP

I found the response as below but where do you find "QuickTime Control Panel" as per the below response and "Browser" option. I looked around.its not in the QT menu... If this process does not work where do you find "free Flash Player ". Please assist.
    Thanks
It's not a QuickTime problem or issue.
You need to install Flash Player to view Flash Video formats. Once you've installed the free Flash Player restart your browser and try the pages again.
If they still show a Q with a ? mark in it you'll need to open the QuickTime Control Panel and click the "Browser" tab. Click the MIME Settings button at the bottom of that window.
Remove the check mark under "Miscellaneous" that says Flash Media.
    Quit and restart your browser.

  • HP TouchPad - Battery with question mark.

HP TouchPad (16GB) WebOS/Cyanogen Mod daul boot.  When I turn on the TouchPad it boots to a screen with a white edged battery with a question mark in the middle.  When the charger is plugged in the home button or center button on the TouchPad lights up left and right.  I haven't been able to boot into the boot menu since this has been happening.  Could someone please tell me how to fix this?  I have read a forum on how to re-partition the TouchPad's drive to reinstall WebOS.  Here is the post here, http://www.souldevteam.net/blog/2012/07/24/fix-bricked-hp-touchpad-recovering-software-bricked-touch...
Could someone tell me if this might help the problem or if there is another way?  Thanks.

Sorry, HP doesn't support changing the OS on the touchpad.
Check out some of the touchpad threads over at http://www.webosnation.com .  They have one specifically for "Android on the TouchPad.
The usual answers for this issue in webOS are: Check your charger brick - make sure the prongs haven't rotated out of the normal position; try another micro-USB cable; make sure you have power in the wall where the charger is inserted.

  • Flashing file and question mark symbol

My Mac is alternating between displaying a flashing file with a question mark and the prohibitory symbol. I tried holding down the option key after restarting but nothing is working. I updated my OSX Lion last night, but I don't know what update  it was. I need this computer working in the next 3 hours. Please help!

Are you able to boot into Single User Mode?
Mac OS X: How to start up in single-user or verbose mode
If so, perform a disk check via the command line:
Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    At the command-line prompt type:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OKIf fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

  • Mac won't startup - question mark symbol

    Any suggestions much appreciated.
I've got a macbook pro & last night I was using firefox on it when the machine just completely froze. So I turned it off and restarted. Instead of booting up it eventually displayed a folder-like symbol with a question mark on it. Using an alternate computer I looked up the apple support site where it told me to boot from the install CD and run the disk utility to repair the problem.
So I fished out the CD and had a go. Unfortunately when I run disc utility it gives me error messages:
    Invalid note structure
    Volume check failed
Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
So is there a way I can fix this?
    thanks
    Richard

In this case I would try reformatting the drive:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.

  • BIG Question Mark in Finder Windows

My Hard drive Finder Windows (any programme) OS 10.4.6.
are suddenly showing a large Question Mark between the 'view buttons' and the 'action wheel icon'.
When 'clicked' the question mark gives a message "The Item Cannot be Found".
All items in each individual folder within the window open normally.
Why is this suddenly happening, and can I get rid of the Question Mark somehow.?
    Many thanks.
    Lance. UK
iMAC FP. Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Before there was a "sidebar", OS X Finder had a "toolbar" where a user could drag arbitrary items (files, folders, applications) for quick one-click access. Although it may not be obvious with the brushed metal finish, "Finder" windows still retain this function.
However, if the original item to which the toolbar shortcut points is deleted or otherwise becomes inaccessible, its icon will be replaced with a question mark (the same thing happens with "Dock" icons).
The shortcuts can be removed from the window by holding down the "⌘" key and dragging the icons off the toolbar.

  • Flashing Folder with question mark symbol

Last night I was syncing my iPod when the computer became incredibly slow and eventually entirely unresponsive. iPod sync failed. I had to to force shut down. The iPod seems to be ok. However, now when I turn on my Macbook, I get the grey screen for about 20 seconds, and then a flashing image of a folder with a question mark in it. I've seen images of this nature before on various Apple products and I fear that it spells disaster! I've tried resetting PRAM, NVRAM and the Power Management Unit, all to no avail.
Please, someone tell me this is not the end for my Macbook!

    In addition to Stefan,
If after you open disk utility and the hard drive not showing up then your HD must be failed all the way and need to be replaced.
You can also start using your installer disk #1, and when it start to boot, press alt/option, and if the only option is your installer disk system folder, then your HD might be failed.
Hopefully you still have apple warranty and apple will replaced that for free.
If you already out of warranty, better try to find new HD and install that yourself or visit your local apple authorized service center that might charge cheaper for HD replacement compare to apple store genius guy.
    Good Luck.

  • Inverted Question Mark Symbol in procedure

    Hi
We have a table in the database which is populated through a application.
The application is developed using JDevelper 10g.
The symbol '-' gets replaced with the symbol '¿' when it is stored in a column in the table. The text in this particular column is mailed to the user. Sending the mail is acheived using a procedure. So in the procedure before sending the mail, we take the text and replace all '' with '-', and then mail this text. Statement used for this:
    replace(TEXT,'¿','-');
We have 2 testing environments. It works in one environment and does not work in other environment.
When we open the procedure in SQLPlus after executing the create procedure statement, the '¿' is replaced with '?' and in OEM it shows boxes instead of '¿'.
Should we install any font in the environment?
Please help us in solving this issue.
    Thanks in advance
    Shoba

That is not problem only on fonts.
(Please try to create procedure on OEM or i SQL*Plus.)
(Sorry this doesn't make help for you)
If you want to create it on SQL*Plus(GUI Edition) for Windows,
I'm not certain whether it goes well or not, but please try as follows.
    (1) go to Control panel -> Regional and Language options -> Advanced -> Language for non-Unicode programs
    (2) and then select Spanish (Spain)
    (3) and reboot Windows.
    (4) set nls_language=American_America.WE8ISO8859P1
    or set nls_language=American_America.AL32UTF8
    (5) use SQL*Plus
But, this method effects other applications undesirably.
How to display '¿' on OEM is one of your question...

  • Question mark in battery symbol

The other day I did some app updates and restarted my phone. After startup, a question mark showed up in the battery icon. The phone was working fine otherwise though. I power cycled it a few times and the question mark would not go away. Apparently it would not charge either, as it is now DEAD. When I plug the phone in, I just get the battery icon with the question mark symbol. I took it to a local Verizon store (2 in fact) and they were of no help. I have only had the phone for just over a year (so no warranty or insurance), and I love it. There is no way I'm paying for a brand new phone when I did absolutely nothing to damage it! After doing some research I have noticed that other people have had this problem as well. I cannot even call customer service because I am alone without a phone!

Contact Motorola and see if they will replace the battery for a fee. Since you will have to send the phone in, you should see if you can borrow a phone from a friend in the meantime.
