Battery, Calling, Contacts, Freezing apps (iPhone 4S)

I have had the iPhone 4S iOS 5.0.1 for 3 days and I am seeing a number of issues with the device:
1. Battery drained extremely fast after being fully charged @ 8:00am, by 11:50am the battery was 36%. I have hardly used the phone between this time.
2. Phone App freezes - When in native phone app the green call button is displayed at plain green with no telepone pistuce and the keypad stops working. I have tried to terminate the application and restart it but still the same problem. in the end I have to reboot the phone and this fixed the problem. until I complete the reboot the device can not be used to make a phone call. very serious issue and im very surprised / disappionted that Apple have allowed this problem into the population. note: after rebooting the problem comes back, I can not select call register, contract or fav and I cant make any outgoing calls
3. Contracts disappear - after setting up iCloud and adding my google .vcf formatted contacts to iCloud everything seemed to work really well, 2 days later after noticing problem 2 (above) my contract have done or Im not able to access them
4. Can not sync calendar and manually sync'd entries disappeared - I have created both a Hotmail account and a exchange account on the device but the Hotmail calendar doesn not seem to sync with my device, yesterday I manually added entries and today they are all gone.. again not good.. very poor quality software.
Any one else seeing these problems?

This happened to me with the battery at the outset, too. I discovered I needed to turn off most of my Location Services that I wasn't using anyway. This fixed the matter at the time, so you might try that. However, three days ago, phone some six months old now, the battery drain suddenly started happening again. Don't yet know the cause.

Contacts are not stored in a backup, so a restore will not bring them in. Contacts, along with all the other Apple databases (log into icloud.com with a browser and look at the various pages - this is what I call the Apple databases) are contained in their own locations on the servers. You should be able to take a new device, go to Settings>iCloud, log in to the icloud account, then turn on the services (e.g. contacts) you want to sync. They will then be synced to the device. That has nothing to do with a restore and with the old iphone 4. As for apps, their listing and locations on the screens are stored in a backup. If you don't restore, then go to the itunes app store, look under Purchased Apps and download them again.

In the Contacts app, select "Groups" in the upper left hand corner.
Then select all the groups that are desired to be displayed.
Select Done.
Now search for the contact(s) in question. Do they appear now?

Can't use two different computers to sync because he's not ... patient enough to handle it. So It's my job to do both his and mine.
Would it work to sync his to the cloud and mine to my computer? Would that seperate them? Divorce is a possibility. Any other suggestions are welcome. calls to the Geniuses have gone unanswered.

Restore your iPhone with the backup for your iPhone or as new.

Backup do not contain apps (or any media). As far as your contacts go, Apple isn't crystal clear on this ... they seem to indicate that only your Favorites and recent call history is backed up, not your entire set of contacts. To play it safe, backup or transfer your contacts to your computer in case they do not come back after re-loading your backup. There are apps available that can export/import contacts for you.

Are you sharing the same iCloud account (in Settings>iCloud)? And do you both have Contacts turned to On in Settings>iCloud?

You can use separate AppleIDs for iCloud, iMessage and iTunes - you just need to create unique AppleIDs for the iCloud accounts if syncing contacts that way (you will need an email address that is not already registered as an AppleID though to get another AppleID).
Apps are a different matter in that purchases are tied to the AppleID used to log in to the store to make the purchase. So you can create another AppleID for iTunes as well and use different ones on the different phones, but any apps you have already purchased with your existing AppleID are permanently tied to that AppleID.
Really, unless you are sharing apps, content and such, there is no reason to use the same AppleID on each anyway. So the simplest solution is to create new AppleID(s) for the second device. If you need an email address to do that, just get a gmail account (or hotmail, yahoo or any other free email account).

I have always used my iBook G4 to sync and backup my iPhone 3GS, until the screen went wrong on my Mac.
I managed to salvage the songs off the mac by turning it into a mass storage device (holding T on startup), and I'm currnetly using a Windows 7 laptop whilst saving up for a new Mac.
I'm trying to back up all my contacts and apps to iTunes but as it was initially sync'd to a mac, it is saying that all my apps, contacts etc etc will be lost!
Is there any way to download my apps and contacts (all contents of my iPhone really) to iTunes on Windows if it was originally run via a Mac?
I'm due for an upgrade to the iPhone 4 on Friday and I'd like to get all my stuff backed up before then please!

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise your phone will be wiped during the following sync.
Then back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to the new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

You could check settings > mail contacts and calandars and see if there are any accounts (like icloud gmail yahoo) listed and if they have contacts on. Its possible if contacts were synced to one of these accounts that turning them back on will recover the missing contacts.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
1. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
2. Connect to a different network, such as a public Wi-Fi hotspot, and try again.
