Battery check primary replace 42

I recently got a boot loop on my computer so when I ran the system and component checks the thing that failed was the primary battery. In hopes that that would solve the problem of the boot loop I got a new battery. It arrived and when I put it in I still got the boot loop so I went back and ran the system and component check again and it says to replace the primary battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for providing that information.
As you were doing a system restore, where did you do this from? I would have to guess safe mode?
If you can get into Safe Mode, try doing a clean boot. The issue you're describing sounds more like a probably with the OS loading drivers or software on boot. The clean boot should eliminate the software/applications if they are the cause. It won't impact if it's a driver. However, a Restore to a point prior to the issue should have.
As yo're running 8 or 8.1 you will also have the option of doing a Refresh (provided you can get into safe mode) if neither a clean boot or restore are allowing you to boot normally that would be the next option. You will lose installed application when doing a refresh.
The final option and more for if you can't even get into safe mode is a system recovery.
I hope something here can help, let me know how it goes.

  • HP Battery Check Status: replace (41)

    Hello Guys.
    I have an issue with my laptop battery. Laptop shuts down immediately after power chord is removed and wont boot until I reconnect it.
    I have been using this battery for 4 months and it's 5200mAh 8cell battery. Windows says that battery is 100% charged
    Hp Battery Check status is replace (41)
    help?
    I'm using a HP Probook 4510s with windows 8 OS.
    Thanks in advance.

    Sounds like your battery is not functioning properly. I would first run a battery calibration on your laptop. ProBook Battery Calibration. If this does not solve the issue then most likely the battery needs replaced. Are you still in warranty?
    Thanks

  • The battery check on my Pavilion dm3 has failed with the message "Replace (00000040)".

    It's just over a year old and will now only work when plugged in to the mains.  The battery has always been pretty good and there has been no warning or degradation of performance in the last week or two.
    I know it may sound like a stupid question given the result of the battery check, but do I really need a new one or is there anything else I can try first?

    okay
    first try this:
    remove the battery, other peripherals and the AC adapter... press and hold the power button for 20 seconds... plug the AC adapter only and turn on the notebook....
    and then:
    Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager.
    Expand the Batteries category.
    Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.
    Warning: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
    On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes.
    Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    check whether the battery is getting charged or not...
    get back to us with the product number (p/n) written on a white sticker at the bottom of the notebook... and OS with version (32/64-bit)

    This error is a little confusing.  At first glance it appears to refer to the CMOS/RTC battery but does infact refer to the main battery for the notebook.  Even though the computer states that the battery is at 100% it would be a good idea to begin by verifying that it is in working condition.  I think this is a good first step because while it does show 100% charge, you state the notebook does not work unless it is on AC power.  This document discusses the issue further.
    As stated in the document the HP Battery Check will need to be run in order to determine if the battery is faulty.
    To perform the battery check perform the following steps and post the result.
    Unplug the power cord and turn off the computer.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Press the Esc key immediately when seeing the HP or the Compaq logo screen.
    The Start Up menu appears.
    Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics .
    Select Battery Test from the list of diagnostic tests.
    Plug in the power cord.
    Click Start Battery Test on the Battery Test page.
    If your battery fails this test it will need to be replaced.  To get a replacement battery you will need to contact HP Technical Support.  If you are in the US/Canada you can call them at 1-800-474-6836.  If you are located outside of this region you will need to go to HP's support site and after selecting your country/region locate "Customer Support" in the bottom right corner to get the contact information for your region.
    I hope this helps!

  • Battery checks say change battery, but it charges and works fine. Help?

    Hey there,
    Just having a problem with my Laptop battery. My product type is a HP G61 Notebook PC. The battery icon in the bottom left says the battery should be replaced, with checks saying it has reached the end of it's useful life.
    I find this hard to believe since I've had the laptop a year and it still charges and works fine. I don't want to spend any unnecessary money at the moment so I'm not sure whether to wait and ignore it to see how it goes.
    Suggestions?

  • HP Mini 311 - HP Battery Alert - Primary (Internal) Battery (601) - Error Message at Startup

    I have a HP Mini 311-1037NR (Product Number is VBM262UA#ABA).   My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.
    When I start up my HP Mini 311 I receive the following message:
    HP Battery Alert
    The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.  For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.
    Primary (Internal) Battery (601)
    ENTER - Continue Startup
    Here's are my questions:
    First of all, what exactly is the problem here?  From what I have googled, it would appear the problem is NOT my external battery, but my internal battery.  What battery is needing replacement?  Does it have a name?
    Second, is there a user guide out there that would assist me with the replacement process that someone can provide a link to or at least send me the page that helps me?  Is there a YouTube video (even better)?
    Third, what exactly is the part number of the battery that needs replacement and exactly where do I purchase it (How much $$ does it cost)?  This question is important as I may be able to find out how to replace the battery, but without a way to purchase the replacement battery I'm still dead in the water.
    Fourth, my HP Mini 311 just dies when I unplug it.  Will a remedy for the above issue remedy this issue as well?  I really do enjoy using my little HP Mini, but would prefer to have the option to use it without a power cord.
    Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    Hi Tim,
    No problem and it's certainly wise to verify an answer.
    I'd say you posted your question on the correct board.  It's usually best just to post once on the relevant board.  I do agree that the term 'internal' does cause unnecessary confusion.
    Here's a link to your Maintenance & Service Guide.
    Yes, I'm certain that the 601 error code refers to your notebooks main battery ( 602 is a failure code for machines that have a secondary storage cell ).  Interestingly, there is no error code generated for a failing rtc battery - or any in built diagnostic test for it, just the usual symptom of the system clock re-setting after each shutdown.
    There's also a HP document regarding start-up battery alerts on the following link.

  • PRAM battery checker

    Has anyone used - safely and successfully - the PRAM battery checker application found here:
    http://www.polar-orbit.com/software.html
    Thanks,
    Mrs H

    Will the battery slowly poop out and give me warning signs or just die? When I replace the battery do I just have to reset the clock or are there other settings that are lost?
    People often think that having a bad battery doesn't make any real difference other than having to reset your clock. This battery may be essential for PRAM operation even if your computer is plugged in. A bad battery can corrupt PRAM and cause startup problems, but it has to be in the computer or the computer won't start at all, so if it is starting to go you are forced into a corner. PRAM stores other startup information about your computer, not just date and time. Some people experience startup problems with a bad PRAM battery. The computer may have to hunt for a startup disk or forget their preferred startup disk, especially if you have more than one drive. The monitor may not come up although the computer starts. Read the links provided earlier for details.
    The more you leave your computer unplugged (vs. just turned off but still plugged in) the faster the battery will drain. I leave my computer plugged in all the time and have gone at least 5 years without needing a battery. If I unplug a computer it may only last a few months (maybe, not sure exactly how long, only did it once).
    A battery on the edge of going may be able to recover slightly if you plug a computer back in.
    Do you need to replace it? It depends upon how safe you want to play it. I have a spare in a drawer somewhere. I have also been able to continue to use a computer with a bad battery though I sometimes had to baby it on startup - multiple tries, reset clock. The cheapest batteries can be bought online. It's not a size commonly stocked. National battery specialists/computer stores may have them but they cost more. If you're out in the boonies and don't like hassle then get a replacement. Think of a car with a weak battery. If you want to be sure it will start immediately and be there when you need it then it's only a matter of maybe $5 +$5 shipping every now and then. As I said, I have a spare in a drawer and have several computers that all use the same size battery.

  • Battery check script

    Hi all!  I'm sure this one has been done to death, but with.  It's a script to monitor a laptop battery and react accordingly.  I wrote this for use with FVWM, to send out warning notices using libnotify when the battery gets too low.  Since my laptop is quite old, the battery runs out quite quickly after getting to 25% capacity.  The script backgrounds itself on being run.  It starts when I begin an FVWM session, and I have FVWM kill the script when I logout.
    Being a script it's easy to tweak to your particular requirements.  The example below just warns, but it would be easy to have the script suspend or hibernate the system, or change the percentage charge at which the script performs different actions.  I hope it's useful.
    #!/bin/bash
    # battery check script
    # ====================
    # Designed to be run continuously while WM is running
    # Requires libnotify to be installed

    # check every $CHECK seconds

    ( while true
    do
    BATSTATE=`cat ${BATDIR}/status`
    # Note valid BATSTATE values are: Charged, Charging, and Discharging
    if [ "$BATSTATE" = "Discharging" ]
    then
    REM_CAP=`cat ${BATDIR}/charge_now`
    FULL_CAP=`cat ${BATDIR}/charge_full`
    CHARGE=`echo $(( $REM_CAP * 100 / $FULL_CAP ))`
    if [ "$CHARGE" -lt "25" ]
    then
    $NOTIFYSEND -i $ICONPATH/battery_critical.png -u critical -t 30000 "battery critical" "Shutdown or connect power now"

    I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to accomplish; your script seems to me to be prone to high cpu-useage loops. If all you want is a warning message if your battery is low when your adaptor is not plugged in, then you could try the following script.
    One caveat, I don't have a laptop and I don't know what the output of
    acpi -b
    looks like, so I don't know which field contains the battery charge info. In the script below, I'm guessing that it is field number 3, so if it is different than that, the script below is incorrect and will not work.
    If you don't understand what I am talking about, run
    acpi -b
    on your laptop, and post the output for me.
    #!/bin/bash
    trap "exit" SIGINT SIGTERM
    delay=60
    warning=50
    while :
    do
    adapter=$(acpi -a | grep on)
    b=$(acpi -b | cut -d ' ' -f 3)
    [[ -z "$adapter" && "$b" -lt "$warning" ]] &&
    notify-send "WARNING - LOW BATTERY" "Battery has ${b}% left."
    sleep $delay
    done

    Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

    Hello,
    I see that you're having an issue with HPSA not working properly. Now, I'm not aware of any other 3rd party program that gives you the ability to check your battery’s performance.
    Now, to resolve the HPSA issue you have going on. You will need to uninstall the program through the Add/Remove folder in the control panel. After that, you will need to install this version of HPSA. Once you install that you should be able to use the battery check within the program.
    If the issue still persists please let me know. If you have any more questions let me know.
