Battery Crashes IPhone 3G.......?

My Iphone appears to have plenty of charge but will crash and turn itself off. When I go to turn it back on it acts as though it has no battery and needs to be charged. I have no updated to 3.0 yet. I am under the past version before 3.0.
Anyone ever run across this??

I meant to add that it was fully charged this morning and that the battery appeared to be almost full at noon.

I have had my iPhone 4 for over 2 years. It finally crashed a few weeks ago. It will not stay on unless it is plugged into a wall charger. (no it is not the battery) It will not stay on for more than 60 seconds, and thats pushing it. I have tried to plug it up to my computer, it will act like it wants to come on but does nothing. I have tried to rest it by holding the sleep and home button at the same time, after it has come back on. The only thing that happens is it shuts back off. I have gone to get a new phone since then, iPhone 4s. I would really like to fix my old one if at all possible.

That error usually means that your computer antivirus is blocking the update.
It can also mean that your phone was jailbroken, or your computer was used to jailbreak some iOS device in the past.

I too am so angry with my new carrier , This new year I decided to end my contract with Softbank because they did so many nasty things to foreigners over the years with like roaming charges 5 bad 3G 2 bad 4G iPhones and Apple store Sendai trying to play it ,we have no control over carriers.
So I had to pay a painful contract ending payment and MNP charge so I could use my paid for number on a NTT
iPhone 5 C that was at a 1 JP Yen special plan ,They just put on options you do not need like Wallet and charge for it ,then when I finally went throught the most rigourous security checks I was given a already opened Box because after I noticed the tape around the clear plastic top was missing and either side I saw Japanese customers opening the box by them selves I was not offered why ? when io came back they said they can open it do what ever they want until the money goes into the carriers account because I got it for free!,yet they will milk me for 2 years ! Blood suckers! Japan is a rip off.And they lock it so you can not use WiFi after 2 year contract.
Getting back to the point ,Because I was a new customer and Gaijin they are stopping me from clearing History ,it should be blue but greyed out ,they do so they can track browesing then sell my data on preferences for shopping.
Not only Apple that is keeping track it is also Carriers who are working together to get more money from us and not only that they damage your iPhone out of spitefulness because you canceleed the contract and want to use WiFi only They send so mant Ads trying to sell rubbish and you can not stop it ,and they change the contract in the middle and also try to stop you from cancelling a contract by telling you will be black listed.

Who repaired the phone? I suggest taking it back to this repair facility. Since Apple replaces phones instead of repair, the repair facility would be the one to take care of your problem.

I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.

Hi, I've been looking around for backup battery for Iphone 3G and have no luck at all since most of them are for Ipods and Iphone 2G. Then I bought one that was made for Ipod and tried it on my Iphone, it worked perfectly. The question is: Is it ok to keep using it eventhough it's not made for 3G ? I bought the Mophie juice pack™ powerstation from the Apple store for $80. It has more then enough power to quickly boost the charge on my iPhone4S to an acceptable level. It requires the standard 30pin/USB Apple cord to plug into it.
But unless you need to charge your phone from 5-100%, this battery is overkill. It's a real hassle having the Apple cord connected to your phone whilst there's a battery in your pocket and you end up looking quite strange with your "corded" smartphone.
I might recommend a battery case (Mophie has these), but they don't offer the protection that I need (I use a LifeProof case). Instead I would buy a smaller Mophie juice pack™ reserve (keychain, direct plug) to get out of a bind and then charge up your iPhone in the car, wall, airplane, etc.
My only concern with the above (direct plug batteries) is that the slightest bump and the battery becomes a lever that could break the 30 pin plug on your phone, just like that warily flimsy feeling when you put an iPhone in a dock.
