Battery critical shutdown at 38%?

My T420 just went into hibernate with no warning. Upon resume it indicated the battery had reached a critical level. However, the battery was at 38% and still showed 3 hours remaining. I was typing at the time. Upon examining my power settings, the system is set to alarm at 7% remaining and hibernate at 5%. So why did it perform a hibernate with 38% left?

hey epicMark,
try doing a battery reset from the power manager and try again.
also see what happens if you uninstall and reinstall the power manager.

    Hi Michael,
    enqueue server is part of the central services (SCS). If SCS is restarted the J2EE Engine will restart also by automatical process.
    The error means enqueue did not find a replication table on the host where it was started - maybe after a failover. So either there was no replication table at all (because the replication server was not started prior to the failover), or the OS did not start the enqueue server on the host the replication server was running on or the replication server was started with a different instance number than the enqueue server.
    Check those points of your configuration and review note 1249256.
    You may also try changing the following row in the replication start profiles to see if it helps:
    eg: Start_Program_01 =local $(_ER) pf=$(DIR_PROFILE)/P01_ERS01_hseep01en NR=00
    You can take note 39876 as reference to this string.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, Anja

  • Critical Battery Level shutdown on desktop after CMOS replace...

    So after speaking with an HP tech.. she told me to go buy a replacement battery and described how to do it.. no problem.. so i go ahead.. but find that my computer is still restarting with the "critical battery reached blah blah blah"  business as before.. anyone else run into this BS???

    somebody has to have some answers lol.. its happened everyday the last 3 days, today while i was in the middle of a playing a game. just shutdown, reboot with the "battery has reached critical state" message upon startup..  again, HP support had me replace the battery on the motherboard, did that, and its still happening.. not a notebook, a desktop.. make and model are posted above.. plz help anyone lol.. thx in advance.

  • Kde 4.6 hibernation/suspend when battery critical level not working

    Hello everyone...
    I'm using arch (wonderful, perfect, unique, blablabla) for a while now, on my two laptops: dell xps m1530, and asus 1001px.
    No problem at all with both...exept for suspend and hibernation (WHICH WORK!!)...
    yes suspend and hibernation work if I activate them manually, or after the defined waiting time..
    BUT...
    if I wait for my computer battery to go below the critical level, and after kde notifies me that my computer is going in hibernation/suspend, it doesn't happen anything...
    the screen just turns black and I think kde doesn't even call the pm-suspend/hibernate commands...I can still unlock the screen and continue to work but the battery goes down to 0 and the computers turn off(obviously if I don't hibernate or shut it down before)..ARGH!
    that is my problem...any thoughts?
    thanks in advance

    Hello, I have excellent solution:
    In power management settings, change the action when battery level is critical to "do nothing"
    Then, in global settings, click "configure notifications"
    For "critical battery", check "run command", and enter:
    dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest="org.freedesktop.UPower" /org/freedesktop/UPower org.freedesktop.UPower.Hibernate
    (I think that's the command, anyway!  Maybe check the wiki)

  • Battery critically low , update will resume after battery is 20%

    My playbook was dead for many days. After charging it for several hours it used to turn on but there was no charging at all so I read in the support that I could try to update OS. I updated OS using blackberry desktop software but after leaving for sometime I got the above message.  THen i disconnected from the charger to see if the charger was working and the sceen went black and then when i connected the charger Red lid turns on for some time then a battery sign with red bolt comes for few seconds then green led light starts blinking. After about half hour the palaybook starts but again the same message comes that the battery is critically low and update will resume when battery is 20% charged. I tried all the options listed in the forum but havenot bought a rapid charger.
    Can anyone help me please. It is not under waranty period.

    Hi playstone,
    Try leaving your PlayBook plugged in for a couple of hours again, then while the PlayBook is plugged in, press the power button for 15-20 seconds to try to force it to reboot. Try this a few times as I know that's helped for some other users (it didn't want to go with the first restart attempt, but it did work after the 3rd or 5th attempt). If that doesn't work, can you get access to another charger (a rapid charger would be best, but it may be worth trying another charger)? That may help in the event that your current charger is no longer working properly. Even try going into your local Staples, Best Buy or other and see if they'd have a charger you could just try out.
    Good luck and keep us posted. If nothing works, let us know as there may be some other things we can try still.

  • Low Battery/Critical Battery Alarm on Equium A100-027

    I have bought an Equium A100-027 running on Vista Home Premium this Feb. Since then I have installed quite some software, eg Nokia phone software, bluetooth drivers, A-Virus & all MS updates.
    When the battery gets low or critical I don't get any audio warning, despite having this option ticked in the Advanced Settings of the Power Options and using the Win default sound scheme.
    The soundcard & speakers definitely work as I get the Win sound notifications and can play CDs, etc.
    Is there a driver/software that can be re-installed to get this working again as System restore would only let me go back a month.
    Thanks for any help,
    Markus

    Hi,
    I saw your post before and I understand you need some help.
    I can just give you the following suggestion:
    - Update to the latest bios version ! (Check this site out:http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp?service=EU&mode=allMachines)
    - Recover your machine and update ALL drivers/tools/etc., but before installing some "foreign" software, check if the "beeping" works correctly (For that stuff go here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp)
    - Install your other software (Nokia manager, etc...) and check after every newly installed software if it still works. If after installing a specific software the "beep" doesnt work anymore then you know where the problem lays and you did some good software troubleshooting. ;)
    In case of any questions: Just post :)

  • Can I execute commands when my system switches to UPS battery or shutdown?

    Hi, I am trying to execute some custom commands when the power goes out and my mac is running on battery from an uninteruptible power supply (UPS).  I did some research and read that a script is executed when OS X shuts down when critera are met while its is running on battery from a UPS. UPS is supported by Mac OS because it shows up in the Energy Saver Preference plane.
    This script is:  /usr/libexec/upsshutdown
    I modified this script, but it looks like my custom commands are not executed.
    Does anyone know if mountain lion still executes this script?

    Okay. I think I know what the problem is. Here's the exact sequence I follow. I am thinking SQL Developer is not doing exactly what it should.
    a) File > New and then click okay
    b) The top dialog box shows the file name: Untitled2.sql
    c) I rename this to abcd and click okay
    d) SQL worksheet opens with the following filename "abcdsql" <- there's no dot between abcd and sql !
    e) I enter in "select * from dual"
    f) execute and it works fine
    g) I click save and it saves it as abcdsql <- NO extension
    Before I had not been looking carefully. I had seen the word "abcdsql" and thought it was "abcd.sql".
    Now my question is why does it append "sql" to the filename? I was in the box for naming a new sql file. It allowed me to type in a file name but then instead of adding "sql" as an extension it just appended this to the filename and didn't give it an extension.
    Anyone else tried this? It seems like a very non-standard thing to do. I never saw an application that just appended "sql" to the filename when it should have given the file a ".sql" extension.

  • Battery power shutdown

    My macbook Pro shuts down WITHOUT ANY WARNING whatsoever while the Apple battery indicator reads 30%????

    Welcome to the Forums!
    First, reset the SMC:

  • Battery Meter/Shutdown despite charged-- no previous answers

    I've searched the fora for an answer to this problem, which strikes me as quite bizarre, but I can't find any answers.
    I have a 2nd generation iPod mini purchased direct from Apple in August 2005, so it is within warranty.
    This issue has happened countless times during playback and once directly upon disconnecting from my computer (fully charged). Despite being even fully charged, I will get a dead battery notification and the iPod will shut off. *However,* if I consistently restart the iPod, it may play again for hours with no further disturbance. Even stranger, the battery meter itself will read that the battery is nowhere near run out, yet the iPod will still shut off and require restarting.
    I've restarted my iPod countless times, have tried to recalibrate the meter, and recently did a Restore, but the problem hasn't changed. I know the battery itself isn't dead, but I'd thought it was a software problem. Does anyone know what to do?

    You may have a battery problem (hardware). See this article on battery charge problems, and, since it sounds like it is the battery itself, you probably want to read this battery service FAQ. Lastly, you may want to read this article on determining your battery's life to see if it is bad.

  • Battery check script

    Hi all!  I'm sure this one has been done to death, but with.  It's a script to monitor a laptop battery and react accordingly.  I wrote this for use with FVWM, to send out warning notices using libnotify when the battery gets too low.  Since my laptop is quite old, the battery runs out quite quickly after getting to 25% capacity.  The script backgrounds itself on being run.  It starts when I begin an FVWM session, and I have FVWM kill the script when I logout.
    Being a script it's easy to tweak to your particular requirements.  The example below just warns, but it would be easy to have the script suspend or hibernate the system, or change the percentage charge at which the script performs different actions.  I hope it's useful.
    #!/bin/bash
    # battery check script
    # ====================
    # Designed to be run continuously while WM is running
    # Requires libnotify to be installed
    ICONPATH=/home/rob/.fvwm/icons/24x18
    BATDIR=/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0
    NOTIFYSEND=/usr/bin/notify-send

    then
    exit 0

    # check every $CHECK seconds
    CHECK=60
    ( while true
    do
    BATSTATE=`cat ${BATDIR}/status`
    # Note valid BATSTATE values are: Charged, Charging, and Discharging
    if [ "$BATSTATE" = "Discharging" ]
    then
    REM_CAP=`cat ${BATDIR}/charge_now`
    FULL_CAP=`cat ${BATDIR}/charge_full`
    CHARGE=`echo $(( $REM_CAP * 100 / $FULL_CAP ))`
    if [ "$CHARGE" -lt "25" ]
    then
    $NOTIFYSEND -i $ICONPATH/battery_critical.png -u critical -t 30000 "battery critical" "Shutdown or connect power now"

    continue
    fi
    if [ "$CHARGE" -lt "30" ]
    then
    $NOTIFYSEND -i $ICONPATH/battery_low.png -u normal -t 20000 "battery low" "Connect power soon"

    sleep $CHECK
    elif [ "$BATSTATE" = "Charged" ]
    then
    $NOTIFYSEND -i $ICONPATH/battery_full.png -u normal -t 20000 "battery fully charged" "Disconnect from power"
    sleep $CHECK
    else
    sleep $CHECK
    fi
    done
    # end of file

    I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to accomplish; your script seems to me to be prone to high cpu-useage loops. If all you want is a warning message if your battery is low when your adaptor is not plugged in, then you could try the following script.
    One caveat, I don't have a laptop and I don't know what the output of
    acpi -b
    looks like, so I don't know which field contains the battery charge info. In the script below, I'm guessing that it is field number 3, so if it is different than that, the script below is incorrect and will not work.
    If you don't understand what I am talking about, run
    acpi -b
    on your laptop, and post the output for me.
    #!/bin/bash
    trap "exit" SIGINT SIGTERM
    delay=60
    warning=50
    while :
    do
    adapter=$(acpi -a | grep on)
    b=$(acpi -b | cut -d ' ' -f 3)
    [[ -z "$adapter" && "$b" -lt "$warning" ]] &&
    notify-send "WARNING - LOW BATTERY" "Battery has ${b}% left."
    sleep $delay
    done

  • Lumia 1520 Battery Discharge Issue After Updating ...

    After updating to Denim, my Nokia Lumia 1520 started to experience the following symptoms:
    Phone charges to 100%, I disconnect and use an app like Instagram BETA, Internet Explorer, Lumia Camera, or any game--after no more than 5 minutes of use, the phone gives a "Critical Low Battery" alert and shuts down. If I try to restart phone immediately, it makes it to the AT&T splash screen or lockscreen and then same battery message appears and shuts down. If I wait 10-15 minutes after the shutdown to restart phone (without recharging) the phone will stay on, but battery level will report to be in the low 20s or 10s (whereas no more than 20 minutes ago, it was 100%).
    When phone is at 100% battery: I take 2-5 photos or record mere seconds of video and I get the same "Critical Low Battery" alert. Upon restarting, some of the photos or video are nonexistent or corrupt files and battery level is reported at 2-5%.
    However, if my phone is plugged in to charger, none of these "Critical Low Battery" alerts come up and I am able to use phone as usual. Considering that I cannot take a vacation and capture nature's beauty with an AC adapter always connected, this is a serious drawback.
    Steps I've Taken:
    Soft-reset
    Full factory-reset
    Moved all apps off microSD card (this improved situation maybe 5%)
    Disabled almost all background app use in Battery Saver
    Replaced microSD card when I thought this was a memory write/read issue
    Installed "Battery" app to monitor battery use. After 750 data points were logged, my average battery life is reported at "16 minutes," which sounds about right.
    My warranty should be expired since I purchased the phone December 2013, so I'm checking in here if anybody has had any luck with battery replacements or with a solution to this issue? At the same time, this issue arose strictly after updating to Denim and I've seen other users report this EXACT scenario. Is there any hope for Lumia 1520 users on this?
    Other reported cases:

  • NoO!!! not my beloved macbook pro.. battery/hot heat issues..

    I have a macbook PRO 17" serial w8622....
    I have read about the heat/noise/battery issues wi macbooks.. but I didn't see any complains on the 17" version so i assumed we were lucky or we didn't have those issues....
    I got my mine middle of July of 06'...and it worked like a charm i mean it did get "warm" but hey its a "supercomputer" right? so i didn't give it much thought PLUS i anytime it got "hot" i would sit or sit IT in front of a fan and boom after like 5 min's back to cooLneSS!!! till now!!!!
    ALL of a sudden I started noticing that it got SUPERHOT in the center of the macbook like RIGHT where it says MacBook Pro on the screen....that AREA was getting crazy hot and EVEN putting it in front of a fan for an hour really didn't do much.. which was shockin to me as it always had cooled it down previously... I have been on vacation so need to travel much and so lately its been plugged in a lot..not 24/7 but alot...saturday i took it wit me for a drive and thats when my nightmare begins...
    It was workin fine..jus like normal then it got down to like 73% of battery life left...NEXT thing i know is its at 20% like in 5 min's!!! then puzzlin over this quadary witt in 5min's it shuts down and won't turn back on... now i'm confused as all get out.. get it home and start chargin it back up thinkin its a fluke... get it at 100% start using it as normal then again somewhere around the 70-75% range of battery life it shuts down again.. at this point i start to panic...
    I figure maybe a battery calibration will do the trick...so i go thru the procedure leave it alone for a whole day and then charge it fully before I use it.. and then it seems that did the trick...as i now watch it go (pretty quickly i must say) down from 70% thru aprox 20% which before it was jus makin the jump...everything seems fine now TILLL outta nowhere it jus shuts off.. BEFORE i could get it down to 3%, 2%, 1% before a shutdown and even then i would get some kind of warnin...but now PI YOW!!! outta nowwhere at random it'll shutdown anywhere from 10% to 33%........
    I have spent now 2 days researchin this and readin the forums on here about this... and still i have not found to much usefull info on the 17" macBook Pro...
    I have even tried lookin at my Full Charge Capacity and it always reads anywhere from 2234(mah) to 4987mah again for Full Charge capacity, for the macbook 15"'s i have been readin that normal is 5000mah and that there is a battery recall for that model..
    D*MMIT the strangest thing jus happened as i type this....even now as i was debating whether to post about this..my battery got down to 40% and then outta nowwhere it jus shut off... now i'm gettin a bit peeved but I run quickly and plug in the charger and then i'm able to turn it back on w/o losing my stuff( i have learned if i do this VERY quickly i can sometimes bring everything back up before shutdown) so I plug in the charger and bananas if it doesn't start chargin it up at 0%!!!! when i know i had it at 40%..... and THEN the kicker as i'm typin up this very post i see it go from 4% BACK TO 40%!!!! jus like that.. there is no doubt NOW in my head there is some kind of problem....
    under battery info as of right now it states:
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh) 3369
    Reaminin Capacity (mAh) 223
    after a few min's and wit battery level now at 61% i checked the settings again:
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh) 4704
    Reaminin Capacity (mAh) 2864
    what in sam hill's name is going on here?
    PLEASE PLEASE tell me what i can do to get this working correctly....
    what are my options?
    What can and should i do?
    i'm VERY new to the world of mac/apple and i can say i like it alot but i'm not seein how the macheads go above and beyond to toast the virtues of apple v/s microsoft and the windows world it seems like any any product apples has its same share of issues right?
    thank you all!!! i appreciate any help and feedback!!!
    oNe
    p.s. after the battery calibration AGAIN like before if i sit in front of a fan the macbooK gets cooler now and the middle no longer gets hot like before which is what i personally think messed up my ish!!!

    aight the PMU reset seems to have did the trick i mean now it works NORMAL as in it gets down to 3% and i'll get a warning of low reserver battery.. i.e. no random shut downs at odd percentages like before 40%, 20%..ect.. now i'm showin anywhere from 5104 to 6174 for mah for the battery... whats up wit that?
    oh and tho my battery/random shutdowns seems solved now i have to now deal wit CRAZY INSANE heat from the macbook.. i mean before it got "warm" i brushed it off as its a super computer.. but now after the PMU reset it gets f*$ck'N insanely crazy hot.. it seems to center around where its labeled macbook right above the # keys.. and the underside gets so HOT NOW that its "almost" painful to the touch.. most definatly I can't rest it on my lap if i'm in shorts or boxers....
    any ideas wit that? i don't want it to die on me.. that much heat can't be good? please, please... this is my first apple and i jus don't want to be dis illusioned by this whole experience..
    thanks again for all the info!

  • Is Docking Station ruining the battery?

    Hi,
    My old laptop was a Lenovo something which was duplicated 1 for me and the same version for my parents..
    I use to keep my AC out when 100% or my battery out when I'm at home.|
    While they were plugged in - overcharging 24/7..
    After 2 years mine was still great while theirs is now barely 10 minutes battery life.. You just unplug the AC and the PC screams low power..
    Well now I have a new laptop: HP EliteBook 2570p, with a proper docking station for it..
    I was half ear told that the docking station should smartly protect my battery life and I can count on it to not keep feeding my PC when 100% is reached..
    As it sounds believable for the size of the dock, and the fact that its almost impossible to plug out the battery without shutdown the PC first and it would be kinda silly if it wouldn't keep it.. BUT.. I don't wanna take the chance..
    A Google search wouldn't give me a proper answer and the manual doesn't speak about this..
    Could any expert please vote for a true answer if this might hurt or not
    An explanation in addition is recommended
    Thanks ahead !

    Hi McJordan,
    HP Notebooks won't keep charging the battery once it has reached 100%.  Gennerally speaking, if the notebook battery is at or above 95% charged when plugged in, the notebook won't charge the battery further.  Charging will only occur after the battery has dropped below 95%, and only then will it charge up to 100% and then stop.  This is true with or without the docking station.
    My own Probook, is currently sitting at 97% available (Plugged in, Not Charging) as I write this.
    There are two things to keep in mind when using a docking station with a notebook, one is that heat is the enemy of batteries and many other components in a notebook, so make sure that the notebook is not overheating by ensuring that vents are clear and clean and there is adequate air flow around the notebook.  Also if you are using the Notebook primarily in the Docking Station so it is always connected to AC Power, at least once a month, take the notebook out of the docking station and allow it to use the battery down to where you get the warning that you need to plug it in, then put it back in the docking station and allow the battery to recharge to 100%.
    I would also recommend reviewing the following two documents for additional tips on maintaining battery performance:
    Improving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista)
    Understanding Lithium-Ion and Smart Battery Technology

  • How to reverse last update - Battery Performance W...

    I stupidly updated my Lumia 800 with the latest version a couple of days ago after receiving multiple messages to do so and from Orange UK as well.
    Since the update my battery performance is significantly worse!  I used to get about 1.5 days at least, but for the last 2 days I have disconected the phone from charge at 6am and by 2pm the Battery Critical warning as come on.
    How do you reverse a previous update ?!!?
    Thanks

    Before the last update my battery life was about 26 hours+
    Since updating my battery life is now a maximum of 17 hours.
    What happened?
    And yes I know how having things switched on can affect battery life. I have stripped off apps and have none running in the background. Everything is kept an absolute minimum. Battery life just disappears before my eyes. Before the last update it was fine.
