Battery Death!

My battery seems to work for about 15 minutes, after being fully charged, then the computer just shuts down! Cycle count is 213, and it says "check battery" instead of reading "normal". What does this mean? Do I need to buy a new battery? I have had this macbook pro for almost 2 years.

Yes, your battery has failed. It shouldn't have, but it has. You'll need to replace it, and at two years of age, it's not likely to be replaced for free by Apple. Can't hurt to ask, though — the worst that can happen is they'll say no.

  • Sudden battery death on N85

So I unplug my N85 from the wall, completely charged (battery indicator shows 7 bars). I go out for a couple of hours, in which I use Maps and Music Player a bit. When I get back home and get ready for bed, the battery indicator still shows 7 bars (again, as expected, since I had not really used it much).
Now here's the shocker: in the morning, I look at the phone, and it's dead. There isn't even enough energy in the battery to start the phone for a few seconds, when I press the Power button. Needless to say, I did not leave any power-hungry application to run overnight...
Has anyone had this happened on their phone? Do these "sudden deaths" just sometime happen, or is it an indication that this (almost new!) battery is heading south?

I experice this problem all of the time. Usually, if the phone isn't used the battery can last over a weekend i.e. >48 h. However sometimes the phone just drains the battery like a short circuit - just that the battery never gets warm. Normally when a phone starts eating battery you notise it gets warm - but not the N85. Sometimes it just takes it an hour to drain the battery from half-charged to zero. Normally I check that there isn't any programs running - I am always turning off everything I don't need, except 3G and bluetooth of course since that is basic standby functions this device needs. (My SE T700 runs almost a week with both 3G and BT and a tiny battery) Also it is soo good at eating power that I often have to enter the time in the phone when I start it! A collegue has a N86 with similar problems.

  • Macbook Pro's time/date and internet preferences reset at battery death.

I have a late 2009 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Since a month ago, whenever I'm not able to get to my charger in time and my battery dies and I reboot it, the time and date settings are set back to December 31, 2000 7.00 pm. I have to reenter my internet and wifi information to connect to the web. No files are lost, but it is still an annoying problem to have to deal with every time my battery dies. This usually happens if I am not able to plug in the charger and turn it back on within about 5 minutes. Is this a common problem? Is anyone else suffering this?
Any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated and loved.
    Thank you.
    ~Incho

This is common only when the battery in question is so old and tired that it lacks enough oomph even to preserve the date and time after the machine shuts down. You probably need a new battery, and at least until you get one, you need to avoid being in a situation where you can't plug into AC as soon as the low-battery warning appears. Or perhaps your battery is so far gone that the warning never appears, in which case you need a new battery even sooner.
What does System Profiler > Power say about the condition, cycle count, and full charge capacity of your battery, and is your MBP a 13", 15" or 17" model?

  • Zen:M Battery death!!!!!a last hope!

A few months ago, I bought a wall charger(Creative Switching adaptor model:tesa9g-0502400).Suddlenly when?I connected?the Mp3(vision zen:m) to the wall charger, the screen turned black! and shut down!!since that moment, each time I connect the Mp3 to the wallcharger, it just turn on?a steady blue light (it doesn't blink)and the screen?stays black. I also tried with the USB connector, but it doesn't work! (now not even the blue light)!?
I've?been thinking that the problem is the battery(short circuit). I saw in Internet(amazon.com) a replacement battery for creative Zen vision M. Could I change the battery of my 60 giga model with this replacement? Is this battery compatible?with any Vision:M model or is just for 30 giga model? Is someone there, who has tried to chance the battey of their Zen:M Model? Are the Vision M models the same Amps and Voltages?I dont see in any place(manual and MP3)?the Amps and voltage of the Vision Zen:M Battery!!!!Could someone help me with this information!!!!please!!!!!!Is my last hope to save my?beloved music!!!!!!

Haha, thanks... I hope it charges. I nearly died in the six monthes I didn't have an mp3 player (My ZEN Micro...) But now with my new one (Thanks Santa!) I have been resecitated! Seriously hope all goes well with your player. Like I said, plus and minues with the internal harddri've. As with any piece of technology. There will always be a risk, but I will stick to Creative over iPod any day. I am a walking billboard for creative when it comes to mp3 players cause for the most part they have worked fine for me.

  • LG Enlighten battery death over night...now it wont turn on

    Moved for greater exposure

I have a similar problem myself. I plugged in my USB cor last night before I went to sleep. I have it plugged in right now and it won't charge. No matter if I plug it into the wall or into my laptop it refuses to charge. Also, for some reason it won't connect to my 3G network. I already tried taking the battery out and putting it back in, but that did nothing. What should I do?

  • Nokia Lumia 520 battery death ?

    Hello,
I've received my phone 2 weeks ago from a shop until then it worked good,
Today i tried to charge my phone at school cause my battery was at 0% but after it my phone doesnt go on more i've used normal electricity power 230V for The Netherlands,
i tried everything so far such as power+down volume put out battery ? whats going on,
Also sometimes Nokia logo does appears and also the phone vibarate serval time's in about 2 second between

There could be a couple of things at play here. Firstly it takes about a dozen charge cycles before the battery reaches optimum performance. You should find the battery life improving over the next week or two. The display and data transmission both very large battery drain functions. So it is possible, depending on how much time you spent surfing and downloading.

  • Zen V after battery death..

Just got a Zen V gb. Never had a player before with built in battery. Was curious if after a year or two or three, however long, after the battery li'ves its life, if I could at least still use my player with an adapter. Thank you.

Nevermind. Third day of ownership the power slider switch broke off. Have to use a small pen or something to turn on or off, so took it back, and I have been ultra careful with this thing.

  • Battery Death Elert?!

I have missed MANY important calls because my iphone runs out of batteries and gives me NO warning. This is an awful oversight. Please let me know if it is my oversight or Apple's. If Apple has neglected to put a depleted battery life warning on their iphone then, they really should change that!? I mean REALLY!!!!!!

Mine gives me warnings when my battery is getting low. Try doing and hard reset and/or restore to see if you can get it to work. Make sure you have the latest 1.1.4 software installed also.

  • T61 - sudden battery death

Hi, I have a Thinkpad T61 for little over 2 years now and a problem with my battery. I'm using the original battery pack and kept it charged between 70 and 90 % for the periods I mainly used the AC-connector, so in theory, the pack should work. Yesterday, I plugged out the power-supply, because I wanted to take the laptop into another room and there the battery died after just 10 minutes, before that I had typical battery life of about 2 hours!! So I recharged the batterypack over night and tried again, nothing changed. Strange thing is, when I look at the battery capacity over time, it starts at nearly 100% and decreases slowly (predicted battery life about 2 hours), after approximately 10 minutes it just jumps from 90 to 4 or 5 %. That doesn't make any sense to me! Why is the decrease so abrupt? When I mesaure the battery-voltage, I still get like 12 V, although it shouldn't be that much, right?
My guess is, that there is something wrong with the chip on the battery, but I don't know how I can fix that...
As I learned, Lenovo only offers 12 months guaranty on battery-packs, is that true?
Is there anything I can do to reach the 2 hours battery life again (other than buying a new pack)?
    Thanks for your answers!

    Hi julphy,
Yes, it's true, warranty on the battery is only 1 year.
Battery is a consumable item that requires replacement at end of its life, usage of over 2 years is an ample life time for the battery in my stance. There is no fix other than buying new battery, sorry!
    Hope this helps.

  • Sudden battery death

I have now twice experienced my i-Pod touch going instantly from a full battery to less than 10% battery.
    WiFi is off.
The first time I was not using the i-Pod - when I went to use the calendar, I found the thing had turned itself off and it would not turn on again.
The second time, I was listening to music. I had just started to listen to the first song when suddently switched itself off and, again would not turn on again.
When plugging the thing back into my computer, the message was that the battery was at less than 10% power.
Both times the battery had been fully charged that day but had not been left plugged in overnight or for a length of time longer than required to power up the battery.
The only suggestion I've come up with it that I was using the same bag on each occasion (not one in which I normally keep my i-Pod) and it has a magnetic clasp. However I the bag I usually use has a magnetic clasp and this does not seem to affect the battery - could the magnet in my other bag be stronger and therefore make a difference?
Any ideas? The rest of the time the battery lasts ages, unless I'm playing games or the weather is very cold.

I've experienced something similar on about 4 occasions.
Every time the iPod has been fully charged (or at least ~75%) and left overnight with wifi off.
Each morning I've gone to use it and it's dead, battery completely drained - so much so it's reset the date to Jan 1st 2000.
It's interesting that you mentioned magnets as I was wondering if the magnets in my case may be effecting it somehow.
However, this current iPod is a replacement (1st one had a broken headphone jack) and I never experienced this problem with my original one using the same case with the magnets.
I've just updated to 2.2.1 so I'm really hoping this will fix the problem and that it was just a software issue all along!
BTW, which firmware were you using when this happened? I was using 2.2, 1g 32gb Touch

  • Premature Battery Death?

I've had my Santa Rosa MBP 2.2 GHz for 14 months now, and my battery is nearly dead. System Profiler shows 60 charge cycles, but CoconutBattery reports my battery's capacity at 963 mAh, only 17% of the original 5600. I just followed the steps to recalibrate the sensor with no change in the stats.
I can't think of any reason why my battery would be nearly dead already, but I did have to take MBP to an Apple Store for a logic board replacement two months ago. However, the battery was already not lasting very long before then.
    What can I do?

Your battery may fall under this program:

  • Lumia 710 Remaining Battery Life % Not Correct

I've had my Lumia 710 for a few months now and over the past week the remaining battery life percentage is way wrong.  For instance, one day I noticed my battery icon was really low so I went to check the % and it said it was -4%.  I was even able to make a 10 minute call and it never died on me.  A few days ago I had about 70% but when I checked the phone a few minutes later it was around 10%.  A few times I've even had it die on me and it never gives me the critical battery warning.
This morning it was dead when I woke up so I brought my charger to work.  After charging only 30 minutes it said I had 57% battery.  But now 4 hours later I'm sitting at 98% and it looks like it won't go past that.  Is something wrong with my battery or could the battery life indicator just be way off?  It was accurate the first few months after I got the phone so I don't know what is going on.

    Hi stephwin,
    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
Sounds like they may be something wrong with the battery, especially the sudden battery "deaths" without any prior warning indicate that. We would advise you to visit your local Nokia Care point and let them have a look. Nokia Lumia 710 has a removable battery, so changing it should not be too much of a hassle if it comes to that.

  • Battery issue, suddenly not charging, showing fully charged

I've not had any performance issues with my battery until suddenly two days ago, it stated that it was all out of power after staying in my pocked unused a couple of hours.
I have tried charging my iPod video using both a socket charger and using USB on two different macs, without any acctual charging happening. The iPod states that it is fully charged and shows the "cable-symbol", but drains after just a couple of seconds after I reconnect it.
However, both of my mac's recognize the iPod as usual. I have tried to restore it without any results. I have also tried to run the automated diagnostics mode with "green screen" and completed as a result. The manual mode is hard to interperet.
Could this be a logic card-failure, rather than a battery failure? I have yet to read about sudden battery death.

    Hello LorangDahl,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
It's really hard to tell unless you have it looked at either by Apple or a third party repair company. The problem could be the battery itself or with the logic board itself. I suggest you send it in somewhere to be looked at or where they can and will perform a free diagnostics test.
Other than that, I don't think there is too much you can really do about it. Here is one such third party company you could look at.

  • Ligic Board Crash

Early-2011 MacBook Pro owners report hardware failures & system crashes 2.0 quad core i7
To me, absolutely disaster for me. An authorized Apple shop in Phnom Penh Cambodia charges me $550 for replacing the Logic Board. The same MacBook Pro, my hard drive was crash (changed), my battery death (changed), now come to logic board. So disappointed, do I need to extend Apple Care every year or need to change MacBook PRO model so often or ...?

It is best to purchase the Apple Care. It will give you peace of mind for 3 years. One repair pays for the AC. The AC is good for 3 years from the original date of purchase.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro 2.33 so hot and why are my fans on so high?

So, I'm sitting here with just Safari 3.1.1 open with just this single page, nothing else running on my machine, 3GB of RAM, and activity monitor reports a total 3.5% CPU usage. Why is my Macbook Pro hot like it's really working (not something-is-broken hot, just the temperature I'd expect with Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash all open at the same time) and why are the fans running like a jet engine?
No weird errors in the console, Spotlight isn't indexing, nothing special in the Dashboard, lots of spare space on the HD, permissions repaired, disks have been checked, I turned off icon previewing on the desktop, top doesn't report anything more than Activity Monitor does -- it really seems like my machine is genuinely wheezing at 3.5%. I was just asked if I wouldn't mind working in another room because my machine is so noisy. You heard me right, my Macbook Pro is getting me kicked out of places.
I've put up with the clump of dead pixels, airport connection issues, now-useless DVD burner that an Apple update bricked, and early battery death, but this one is just boggling. If anyone has any advice I'd be grateful.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you have iStatPro? You can download it from the Apple site and see what it is that is running so hot. Under the low usage you describe, the fans should be idling silently. And you might be able to tell what is getting so hot.
If Activity Monitor doesn't show anything, then you might want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test. It sounds like something is getting very hot. If there is a hardware problem, then you should get one or more error codes. The Apple Hardware Test is on Install Disc #1 of the gray discs that came with your Mac--you boot to it by holding down "D". Instructions are on the disc and on the screen.
Also, be sure you have "All Processes" selected on the Activity Monitor. And the boxes at the bottom should be mostly black with very little red or green at 3.5% CPU usage. Given all the symptoms, I am surprised that there is not some process running amok in the background.
    Good luck!
