Battery doesnt charge past 61%

I just noticed that when I unplug the battery, conky reports that the battery is draining at 61%.  I can let it drain and when I plug it back in it reports its charging, but it stops once it gets to 60-61% it stops charging. whats the deal here? is it just conky reporting wrong or is it the battery?

How old is your laptop?
From wikipedia:
A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike other batteries. This drawback is not widely publicised.
At a 100% charge level, a typical Li-ion laptop battery that is full most of the time at 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit will irreversibly lose approximately 20% capacity per year. However, a battery stored inside a poorly ventilated laptop may be subject to a prolonged exposure to much higher temperatures than 25 °C, which will significantly shorten its life. The capacity loss begins from the time the battery was manufactured, and occurs even when the battery is unused. Different storage temperatures produce different loss results: 6% loss at 0 °C (32 °F), 20% at 25 °C (77 °F), and 35% at 40 °C (104 °F). When stored at 40% - 60% charge level, these figures are reduced to 2%, 4%, 15% at 0, 25 and 40 degrees Celsius respectively.
Like MikyMaus said, if you refresh, the full indicator will switch the 100% (or full state) from the original 100% to your current level of 61% .

  • My brand new laptop battery doesnt charge upto 100%

my battery does not charge upto 100% its stops at 99% after hours of charging. what do i do?

    Hi @ekezie
Welcome to the HP support Forums!
I understand that your notebook battery will not charge to 100%, I am happy to assist.
Since it is new did you interrupt the charge cycle at all. On many notebooks there are for lack of a better word charge thresholds to prevent the battery from charging when it is already above a certain level when first plugged in. This is to  prevent repeated short charge cycles, which can reduce battery life. That may be the sort of thing that is happening.
However I would recommend taking a look at this page, and running the tests.

  • Battery doesnt charge 100%!!!

I know there's threads already on this subject but nothing seams to work, hence the post. I have BlackBerry z10 stl-100 that worked okay when I bought it...that's until I updated it. updates seems to be more than a curse than anything else. The phone simply won't charge 100% neither on a wall charger (that came with the phone) or via my laptop USB port. My first smart phone was a BlackBerry and I've stayed loyal to BlackBerry ever since and always defend BlackBerry in BlackBerry/Samsung or BB/Android debates however this issue is getting the better of me. I always have my devices working a 100% but this phone is giving creeps...please help before its too late

  • Battery doesnt seem to be charging

As the tittle ays really. My IP4 battery doesnt seem to be charging.
Last night I allowed it to run completely flat until it switched itself off so it could calibrate the battery.
Plugged it in to charge and went to bed. Some 9 hours later, switched it on and it's only showing 3% ... Yep the mains was switched on lol
Defuncd battery maybe? Not sure as it seemed to take ages for the battery to run flat

In fact if you run it totaly empty it will be damaged beyond repair. The idear this calibrates the battery is wrong. This type of battery likes to be topped up oftern it will however take a week or so of use befour reaching peek efficiency
    You are 100% incorrect.
Please read the Apple advice on batteries here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
    It specifically states:
    _Use iPhone Regularly_
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. _*Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).*_
Not sure that can be much clearer.

the battery of my Ipod doesnt charge, so how much it cost and where can I replace it???

You can take it to an Apple store...I think its costly though, I was told maybe a 100 bucks...not sure though. How long have you had the iTouch before the battery showed signs of failure, what Generation?
This is something that has been having me wonder about battery life.

  • Battery won't charge past 80% U460

Today I noticed my battery won't charge past 80% on my U460 laptop. I bought it around 9/30/2010 and currently using Windows 7 home edition. Tried completely discharging it and regarging and still no luck. I find it hard to believe it could be already dying on me with how I take care of it . Any help?

  • Why wont my battery charge past 95

why wont my battery charge past 95%

Battery may not show a full charge in Mac OS X
If the battery icon in the Finder menu bar is set to show the percentage of charge , you might sometimes notice that the battery does not attain a full 100 percent charge when the power adapter is attached. This is normal behavior; battery life is maximized if charging is not continuously cycled on and off when the battery’s charge capacity is between 95 and 100 percent. When the battery level eventually drops below 95 percent, it will charge all the way to 100 percent.

  • HP TS 14 sleekbook doesnt charge battery

Recently my battery became faulty, (it wouldnt charge past 40%, and die withing 30min), so I got a new one. Everything worked perfectly for about a week, and then today weird things started happening.
If I unplugged my laptop, it would instantly turn off, as if there was no battery, but it would start up without being plugged in (meaning the battery was fine). But if i was to plug it in, and then unplug, it would turn off again. I restarted my computer, and it did some updates (I dont know if the updates, or a full restart was the solution), but the problem stopped, the laptop worked fine, I could unplug it without it dying.
But then I was using it without the adapter, and my laptop died at 48% battery. I plugged it in, and it turned on, but now (6 hours later), its still at 48%, and if I unplug, my laptop dies, and I cant turn it on without plugging it in.
This is really strange, what is going on, and how do I fix this?

    Hi @OxyCode ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Pavilion TouchSmart Sleekbook 14-b109wm and your battery not charging correctly. Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery.
Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.
Here is a link that might help with the performance of the battery if you need it.
Hope this helps, please let me know.

  • Satellite M45-S165 New Battery won't charge past 25%

    Hello,
This is a Satellite M45-S165 running Windows XP SP2.
I just put in a new battery from Technuity sold at Circuit City. Followed the instructions and let it charge for 10 hours before using it. The laptop was turned off while charging.
Turned on the laptop and Toshiba Power Saver said that the battery was only charged to 25%. It just won't let it charge any more than that.
I shut down TPS from the task manager and opened the Windows power meter on the control panel. After running on just the battery for a while I tried to recharge it. But the windows power meter is showing that the battery is charging, but that is stuck at 3%.
The battery is new, so any idea about what is keeping it from charging completely?
    Thanks.

    Hello
At first I must say that you have done everything correctly and this issue is probably not because of the battery (I hope you bought the right one). The question is is there some problem with power supply electronic.
You must understand that it is not easy to offer simply explanation to such issues and to find out what is wrong there it is necessary to run diagnostics program and check power supply electronic functionality.
This can be done by authorized service provider only. So you must make decision what to do. Make a call and ask them what can be the reason for this. Inform you what can be done with it. What else you can do?

  • I have never updated macbook 10.5.8, grey screen at start up, battery not charging.  Is it worth getting it serviced?

So, My lovely Macbook 10.5.8 is struggling a little.  I cannot use any softwares because I have never updated the system - how many system updates will I need to install and purchase will I need to install until I can use all the modern softwares, and how do I do it?
Also, the computer turns off immediately if the charger is removed?  Will I need a new battery?
Finally, manytimes the system struggling to start up and gets stuck on a pale grey/ white/ blue screen?  Any ideas?
I am thinking to take it to be serviced at the genius bar but there are a few issues here that could make the whole process very expensive and as the laptop is quite old now I am not sure it is worth it.  I'm not even sure how much it costs for a genius bar appointment.
I really don't know what to do, please help, any suggestions would be much appreciated!
    THANK YOU

You could call ahead and ask about setting an appointment at an Apple Store
to talk to a Genius about your old MacBook, and see about a diagnosis of its
issues; that much should be free, from what has been said about it in the US.
Any further actions, after a diagnostic, would likely generate an expense, if
there are parts and labor involved to restore functions. Could be just a new
battery, or charger, etc may be needed if those don't check out well. Be sure
if you do visit with a Genius bar, you take along the MacBook's power adapter.
Depending on what the Model identifier number (macbook2.1, 3.1, etc) is you
may be able to upgrade an OS X version past Snow Leopard 10.6 (retail DVD
is the path to upgrade) however, several early MacBook models like 10.6.8.
So the price of admission to Snow Leopard, is about $20 for the retail DVD; &
then the last step update is a free download to get 10.6 to 10.6.8.
There is an option in the Snow Leopard installer, to put Rosetta in there, so
if you have a pile of older applications that have PPC code, these would
benefit from the Rosetta and allow you to continue to use them in 10.6.8.
Snow Leopard is the last OSX that could allow you to use older PPC apps.
    Anyway, hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!
