Battery drain since 10.3.1 update

Anyone else notice their battery draining a bit faster? When I look at my device monitor, my display is sucking 16% of my battery, and my brightness is turned all the way down. My setup and use is the same as it was before I updated to 10.3.1 from the previous 10.3.0.
Not sure why since the update the display is utilizing so much resource. Prior to the update it would be around 6-8%.

How long have you waited? As always after any OS update of any kind, regardless of method used, one should wait 48-72 hours before making any judgements about lag, performance, or resource consumption.

  • IPhone 5 battery drain since iOS 8.2 update

    hello,
my name is Udi, from Israel.
i have an iPhone 5 which i purchased in June 2013.
since the beginning, i have always kept the battery saving "rules", including correct charging of a lithium ion battery, auto-brightness off, reduce motion on, push notifications off, background app refresh off, cellular data off when not in use, etc. etc.
since updating to iOS 8, my battery life has decreased a little. but since updating to iOS 8.2 a few days ago, i have experienced, what is in my standards, a serious battery drain. e.g. when i sleep, with my iPhone on airplane mode at night battery decreases by ~15%.
i have tried everything, including restoring the phone and using a backup.
    what can i do?
will a restore from scratch (without using a backup) help?
    thanks in advance =)

If this does not help, get your phone checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place, or contact Apple Support and talk to them. They can check the battery online.
You can also visit this page to do that: iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support
Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.

  • Battery Drain since 7.1.2 update on 2nd Gen iPad

SInce updating a few days ago, my iPad is burning through its battery at record pace.  I swipe up to close apps., make sure location services are off on all but 3 apps and make sure background app refresh is off on all but 6 apps.  I cannot figure out what is going on?  I've been on for 2 hrs. and am down to 57%......any suggestions are appreciated?  (I am on my home WiFi)

Thanks Philly_Phan for that phone number.  I'll call them on Monday and see if they can help me with my problem.  I appreciate the time you took to help me out.  Have a great weekend.

  • IPhone 3 battery draining since iOS6 update

My husband has an iPhone 3G (not a 3GS) and since I updated it with iOS6, his battery is draining very quickly.  I had the same problem when I had an iPhone 3GS and updated it to iOS4.  I thought my battery draining was because my phone was so old, so I got a new one and then the bug fix came out.  Has anyone heard if there will be a bug fix for battery issues on iOS6?  Any other thoughts as to why his battery is draining so quickly?  I have changed the settings (brightness, no apps running in background, push notifications, etc.) as best I can to make sure it's not using too much battery, but that does not help.

  • Magic Mouse battery drain since updating to 10.9.5

Since updating my iMac to 10.9.5 my Magic Mouse battery life has gone from over a month of use to less than a day. It's so bad I switched back to a USB based Mouse. Has anyone else experienced a rapid battery drain of their Magic Mouse since updating their iMac?
    Ian

Hello Ian,  I know it sounds simplistic but you will have to check the battery situation.  Here are a few notes I recently made.  It is true that Mavericks needx more memory support but probably it's not much more of a drain on the mouse batteries.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems.  Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best.
Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor.  I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this.    Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.  The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available.  Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced. Note.  Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.  Note.  Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ... Turn off the device. Remove the batteries, Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves. Replace or renew both batteries. Turn on the device.  You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired. Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.

  • Anyone else have terrible battery drain since the update?

I did the update yesterday morning and right away started to notice battery drain.. Before that I had the best battery of any iphone I've ever had. I have the 5s currently. I changed nothing so there should be no change in my battery usage so the only thing it could be is something with the upgrade. It's probably too early since the update came out to know what the problem is and I guess I should have waited to do it till the bugs were worked out. Other then that I have found no problems. Anyone else having the battery drain problem?

I'm sure there are people who had battery drain after updating to 7.1.1. I'm sure because there are people who posted about it, and you could have found out yourself just be reading the forum or searching it. How does knowing that help you?
I'm also sure there were people who had extra battery drain after updating to 7.1, and to 7.0, and to 6.3, and to 6.2, and to 6.1, and to 6.0, and to 5.4, and to 5.3...all the way down to 1.1. Again, because they posted and said so.
For the record, my battery usage hasn't changed since updating.
You are wrong that the only thing it could be is the upgrade. If it were the upgrade there would be 10,000 or more posts about it already.
However, sometimes the process of upgrading "confuses" some apps, and they run continuously trying to recover. This drains the battery rapidly. To solve the problem take basic troubleshooting steps, and stop once the problem is resolved:
Turn the phone off by holding the SLEEP button until slide to power off appears; wait a few minutes, then turn it back on
Restart iOS by holding HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears (10-15 seconds)
Kill all running apps - double press the HOME button, and flick each screen image up. Then restart the phone again
Restore the phone using iTunes on your computer
Usually one of these will fix it. Post back if none of them work.

  • BATTERY DRAINS SINCE AFTER THE UPGRADE TO OS 10.2.1.3442 ON Q10

It's been over three weeks now since I upgraded my os to 10.2.1.3442 and ever since then my battery drains like mad.I constantly use device monitor to manage runing applications and even when most apps are idle and PIM is as low as 0.5%,my battery @97% would be indicating it can only last for 4hrs.This occurs all the time and no single time has been an exception.Suddenly my battery that can go even two days previously when fully charged can barely go 5hrs now.pls kindly assist with your ideas.I'v done several hard restart still no improvement.

Do you use BBM very much, such as BBM Groups?
Open the BBM app, tap the FEEDS or UPDATES tab and scroll all through that as far as you can.
Close BBM and watch the same Dev Manager in two days, let's see if that reduces the BBM usage.

  • Iphone 5 VERY short battery life since 6.0.2 update.. Is there anything to change that? :/

Very short battery life on my iPhone 5 since 6.0.2 update. I got up this morning and it was only half an hour in use and it already lost 10% of battery life! Please fix that apple!

Apple is still signing for 6.0.1 so you can RESTORE BACK to 6.0.1. Just download the 6.0.1 IPSW for your device and then press the shift key while pressing restore (on windows) which will open a window. Select the downloaded IPSW and you'll be back on 6.0.1. And since Apple is still signing 6.0.1 THIS IS NOT A HACK
OR AN UNAUTHORIZED downgrade. So it DOES NOT void your warranty because Apple is allowing you to downgrade because they've allowed the 6.0.1 window to remain open. I did it for a friend's iPhone and it all worked out fine.

Also Apple say they are sending me a replacement unit, is this new or refurb?

  • MBA 2013 battery drain quickly during sleep after updated to mavericks

    Hi,
After I updated to mavericks this Tuesday, I noticed the battery drains quickly during sleep mode.
Before the system update, everything was ok. Each night after I closed the lid, it went to sleep and the battery only droped less than 5% after sleep of the whole night.
But during the last two nights after system update, it drained more than 50% of the battery during 8-hour sleep. I could feel some heat on its back when I picked it up. I did not change any system setting or installed any new apps.
my MBA: latest 2013 version, 13 inch, haswell i7, 8G ram, 256 SSD.
I liked my mba so much because of the long battery life. But now It was really annoying because I have to charge it very often.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?

    Hi Hans,
There's another thread going with the same issue as you... check:

  • Usage timer/Battery drain since 4.2.1

Before the iOS 4.2.1 upgrade, I owned a very stable handset with an incredible battery.
After the upgrade the phone developed a Usage timer that matched the Standby timer minute for minute. The battery life diminshed much more rapidly suggesting something was running in the background. I shut down everything conceivable, deleted mail acounts and turned every setting off, including Wifi. The only way to stop the Usage clock was to turn Airplane mode on.
I tried a hard reset and resetting network settings without any improvement.
Then I tried Reset all Settings and bingo, things went back to normal...... until... I turned the phone off and back on, which caused the phone to begin playing up again in the way I described.
The simplest way around this is not to turn the phone off and if I have to (which is rare) I need to do a "reset all settings" again.
    Programmers!!!! Grrrrrrr..
    Any ideas??

Edited by me because of early morning grammar issues.

  • Severe battery drain since update to 8.1.2

My iPad Air is seriously losing battery when standing idle. At first I thought I had forgotten to re-charge it so I started monitoring it. Since the update it has lost over 85% of battery charge overnight when not being used. I have looked in the battery usage section and it seems that the Home and Lock screen is the culprit with 88% usage in the "Last 24 hours". It charges up okay but when I go to use it it is always dead in the mornings. How is it that the Home and Lock Screen is the culprit and what can I do to correct it. I have all the usual culprits turned off, i.e. Bluetooth, Notifications etc. In fact I have so many things turned off I wonder if it's worth having this iPad.

Also when I do go to use it I can see my battery indicator go down each time I do something with it. I unplugged phone last night before going to bed (100%) so it would not be plugged in overnight and now I wake up and see it at 90%.  So I suspect something wrong.  My App Background is set to off as it has been for quite sometime so no apps refresh for me in background or so I thought. Now after the 8.1 update my battery life *****!!!!As where before I could go like 5 to 6 days before charging now it is like 2 to 3 days before I need to charge up again. With all the tips and tricks I have implemented none now work on my phone. Someone if can help please do. I need to find a resolution.
When in Battery Usage screen mine right now says Usage 8 minutes, Standby 13 minutes. Nothing in Last 24 hours and Last 7 days Home & Lock screen 25% and Settings 23% then the other areas less then that so the top things that are eating my battery are within the home and lock screen and settings screen?
When I did a reset by using the home and power buttons for 10 seconds it acted funny. Showed No service then showed my provider them no 4G, LTE and no wifi symbols then it come back up.then when i go back to battery usage it has nothing there to read  dashes at usage and standby, last 24 nothing last 7home lock screen 27%, settings 23%

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
    3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
    4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Battery problems since 10.4.3 update?

I know that there a quite a few threads about battery problems, but has anybody experienced significant decreases in battery life after installing the 10.4.3 update? I installed it a few days ago and I'm noticing now that my battery life is much worse than it used to be.
For example, I was just watching a movie on my iBook. Before I started, my battery was FULLY charged, and Energy Saver was set for "Better Battery Life". I had airport turned off and left the screen brightness at default.
My battery died within 40 MINUTES! I had the sound turned up a little bit but I don't think that would drain enough power to reduce my batter life to 40 minutes when set for "better battery life"....
My battery's less than 2 years old.
Anyone else had similar problems since last OS update?

I just found a useful util called CoconutBattery 1.3 available from :
    http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/index.html
Running the app - gives me this info on my battery's state:
    current & max capacity: 828mAh
    Orginial Capacity: 4400mAh
    Battery load cycles: 461
The battery according to this app shows that at max charge it only has 18% of its orginial capacity.
