Battery draining/over heating issues - 925

hi all,
ive had this issue for a while now but havnt moaned about it until now but ive just had enough of this constant issue and want some help
i have the lumia 925 and have the above simptons, i have the lumia amber update and have disabled every setting and background app the only thing i have enabled and running in the backround are -
touch display is turned on (double tap to wake)
on my home screen i have the apps -  Photos, Battery,  Bing news, The Weather Chanel, set as live tiles
the backround apps i have running are -  Battery, Bing News, Facebook and whatsapp
apart from that all other settings are disabled or off
i can disable bing news if have to but i dont think this is the issue here as before i was having the exact problem
one time i noticed a 30% decrease in battery, not to mention the battery got really hot in hand

Hey Robert,
If it's anything like my 920, sometimes it gets caught in a CRAZY battery drain cycle. Sometimes it may get hot, sometimes not, but I always make sure that my GPS is working correctly. A lot of times it's not, and I need to reset the phone by either turning it off or holding down the power and volume down buttons.
Especially check any apps that you may have downloaded that may be using GPS. Also, if you do the power + volume down, always turn your phone off again the normal slide down way afterwards or your live tiles won't update correctly.

  • WiFi loss & battery drain a software issue, not hardware

I wrote the commentary below after installing IOS 7 on a 4S and resultantly losing WiFi entirely and enduring major battery drain issues. After two trips to the Apple store and meeting with their techs at the "genius" bar, I was emphatically told that the issues were entirely hardware related and the only solution was to purchase a new phone. I was told there was nothing more to be done because the hardware was defective... either just use the not-so-smart phone as it is or buy a new smart one.
Well, here's an update on that story. I installed 7.0.4 last night and instantly my WiFi was back on and working. So far today, the battery seems to be back to normal as well, not draining like a giant hole in the levee. I don't know if this will be the same story for anyone else with similar problems. But I can say that the hardware-caused-storyline was bogus. Entirely time coincident with a software update (IOS 7), I lost WiFi and battery. And equally relative to the 7.0.4 update I immediately regained WiFi and battery.
I'm curious if others have experienced this same thing? And if Apple has an official explanation?
    Oct 14, 2013 12:37 PM
I  had a perfectly functioning iPhone 4S (64 GB) that I have been very   happy with and has always been glitch-free, good battery time, no   complaints. Until installing IOS 7.
Among other things, immediately upon "upgrading" to IOS 7 I have lost WiFi entirely (button greyed out).
Next, I found the battery drains to the point where I have to keep it   charging 2-3 times per day with extremely small phone usage. In a  normal  day, with 2-3 text messages, checking email 3-4 times and no  phone  calls, I am down to 30% battery by 3pm. Two days ago I turned  airplane  mode on at 9am with 98% battery and by 4pm batter was at 45%  with  airplane mode still on.
There are other problems, but those are the two primary issues.
I   went to the Apple store two times. The first time the technician   verified my problem, said there was nothing that could be done because   it's a hardware problem now and I would have to buy a new phone at full   price (my current cell contract isn't up until March 2014). He  suggested  a complete phone reset to "new phone" which I did and which  solved  nothing whatsoever. Same issues exist.
On  my second  trip to Apple just yesterday the technician looked it over,  checked the  battery function, etc. and I was told that the battery is  fine but that  the processor or something in the phone is working  overtime and draining  the battery. And again, I was told there is  nothing Apple can do other  than swap out the phone, though, this time  they would replace it for  $199.
I  was tempted to pay the $199 for a new 4S  that the technician said  would come with IOS 6. But so far I have  refused that offer without  some assurance that future IOS upgrades  wouldn't harm that phone as  well. Also, if I paid this now, then I  wouldn't upgrade when my  contract ended with Verizon and I was looking  forward to perhaps  getting a 5S then. I know that it's impossible to  assure that these  upgrade issues won't happen again to the next phone,  which finally  leads me to my questions...
Considering   the options I've been given thus far, what would someone more in the   know suggest I do? Is there any possibility of a software fix or did  the  "upgraded" software probably ruin the hardware?
As   a longtime Apple fan and someone who has owned the first Mac laptop  and  early desktops, I don't understand why Apple doesn't have better   customer service policies regarding their own software directly   affecting their own hardware adversely.

I have the same problem with WiFi and off, the issue was Google Play services, this is what I did settings > apps > all > google play services > clear data > uninstall updates > restart the phone > update the app > check again .

  • Ipad over heating issue

I have had a search and replies to this question are about a year old. Has Apple been able to resolve the heating issue with ipad or are they an inside only device?
I would like one for work where I am an ecologist and require something to record data in the field, unfortunately here in Western Australia it gets pretty warm in summer.
Has anyone had issues with recently manufactured ipad1 or ipad2 over heating in the sun?
Has anyone found a way around this, chilled case?..
    Thanks
    Mark

I just saw this case in the link below today. It's called an icePad. I don't think it will help for a full eight hours of work, but it might help for a few hours at a time maybe. Since the iPads cooling requirements are so much lower than a laptops you might even be pleasantly surprised.
    http://www.amazon.com/Ice-Pad-IP09AA-Smoke/dp/B004K6M9V8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronic s&ie=UTF8&qid=1309703393&sr=1-1
That particular case doesn't have any reviews, but the laptop cooling pad in the link below has some reviews and it is using the same technique.

    Hope that helps.

  • LG G2 kitkat SEVERE battery drain and performace issues

After updating my LG G2 to kitkat the other day, my phone performance and battery life have been absolutely awful. Previously I could go 24  hours on a charge with moderate use, and now I'm lucky if I get 4 hours with it sitting on my desk unused with battery saver on. I also get stuttering while navigating, running apps, etc., and it freezes often. I can hardly even use my phone at this point. Anyone else encounter these problems? Anyone know what's wrong?

I'm having the exact same issues along with many others. I can no longer send or receive texts either, answering a call is a nightmare. My phone used to charge to 100% in about 1.5 hours and last for roughly 20-24 hrs. At the moment it's been charging 1.5 hours and it just hit 17%. Within the first hour of the update my phone went from 93% to 15%. Once it died, I plugged it in and it charged decently fast back to 100% so I unplugged it and sat down and watched it drop a percent per minute until it died on me again. I ran task killers and deleted apps and managed to get 3 hours of life off the 3rd charge of the day and now it's not even wanting to charge fast at all. It drains faster than it charges. I plugged it in to charge yesterday at 4 pm. At 2 am it was finally fully charged and I unplugged it to see if it was gonna behave and it was dead by 7:30 am. I was asleep during that entire time frame so it was NOT being used. Oh and it now overheats so badly that it burns me if I touch my face/ear to it.
I want to try a hard factory reset but I have over 1000 photos to back up and now my computer will no longer recognize the phone, it won't install any drivers, it's all errors. So I tried Wireless Storage which I already had set up and was working great and now it won't even turn on on the phone. It's useless. So I resorted to the Verizon Cloud and I can't access any of my photos now anywhere else other than my phone because to activate my account I have to receive the temp password from Verizon in a text  but it wont send or receive texts at all on either wifi or data. Kitkat as good as bricked my 3 week old phone. My hubby's phone on the other hand, is working just fine post update. ARGH!

  • Rapid battery drain over EDGE

EDGE seems to just rip through battery on my phone. An hour and ten minutes of browsing over edge completely drains my battery. Hardly the six hours advertised. Anyone have any suggestions?

Read more of what was advertised. The fineprint note below says:
Internet over Wi-Fi: Testing conducted by Apple in May and June 2007 using preproduction iPhone units and software. Internet over Wi-Fi testing conducted using a closed network and dedicated web and mail server, simulating browsing to 20 popular URLs and checking mail once an hour. All settings were default except: Call Forwarding was turned on; the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off; WPA2 encryption was enabled. Battery life depends on the cellular network, location, signal strength, Wi-Fi connectivity, feature configuration, usage, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific iPhone units; actual results may vary. Internet over EDGE: Testing conducted by Apple in May and June 2007 using preproduction iPhone units and software. Internet over EDGE testing conducted over a 1900MHz EDGE, using a dedicated web and mail server, simulating browsing to 20 popular URLs and checking mail once an hour. All settings were default except: Call Forwarding was turned on; the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off. Battery life depends on the cellular network, location, signal strength, EDGE connectivity, feature configuration, usage, and many other factors. But honestly, I get more than what you say you get, but I also don't get many phone calls (0 to 2 a day for just a few mins). Phone calls will kill your battery faster that other activities. Will say Internet over Edge is second fastest. If you get a few calls and browse a lot....well, find a WiFi hotspot.

  • 990fxa-gd80v2 over heat issue.

Had this board for about one year, never over-clocked. Recently it started acting up (mouse/keyboard quit working etc) and has
now gotten to where the system just shuts down...usually while gaming for about 45 minutes (BF4MP). I used speccy while running P95 and noted the system shuts down when the mother board temp hits 90c, also noted the mobo runs at over 80c while gaming.
Is there any known issues with this board?  Appreciate any help.

First issue noted was the mouse cursor began to "skip" across the screen and cursor graphics (icon) began to deteriorate (fuzzy). About the same time, the keyboard stopped working intermittently, I changed usb ports for both the kb/mouse and it cleared up the issue for a short time. The system began to "hang" if the mouse was moved quickly (screen freeze), sometimes it recovers other times a full restart is needed. Of late (3 days), the system just shuts down...usually after 45 minutes of BF4 multi-player. I set vcore voltage to 1.4 but other than that, have not done anything.

  • Battery Possibly over-heating

I think my computer may use more battery power than normal as it heats up to an abnormally hot temperature when my computer is in use.
I have a macbook 10.8.5 (late 2007 version) and had to replace my battery in January because it stopped charging and now it keeps heating up. I'm not sure if this is related, but the fan (i think from my hard drive?) runs really fast to the point where I can hear it very loudly when my battery is really hot as well.
I am now living in Seoul, South Korea and ended up having to buy a new charger for my computer this summer as well. My father bought the charger for me and it is not the traditional version of the magnetic charger that came with my macbook originally but is a silver thinner version and I'm not sure if maybe I have the wrong charger and thus my battery is overheating...
Also, my computer tends to restart when I open media things like the visualizer, youtube, any video stuff that's on the internet in full screen and just now the screen went grey with a power symbol in the middle telling me that i needed to restart my computer.
What the **** is going on?! What can I do? I need this computer for atleast 9 more months as I need it to work while I'm here in Korea. There aren't any Apple stores here, just Apple resellers called "Frisbee" and I want someone to tell me what's going on, what i need to do, and to possibly help me fix the problem...what can i do and where can i go for help?
Thank you for any help you cna give!

I actually didn't have all processes showing and with that everything was very low, including itunes and firefox. However, I had something called Console open while I did this and I noticed it was on 98 CPU...does this help at all?
I have copied and pasted the kernal panic information below...thank you so much for your help again!

  • After updating my 3gs to ios5 nothing works properly the phone is slow, no service, rapid battery drain, excessive heat when in use for longer periods of time, does not connect to vehicle stereo through usb, and screen is on but not responding to control

my 3gs battery dies rapidly and gives off excessive heat when in use no service anywhere, slow reponse time sometimes not at all like lights on but no one home, calls drop can text  no 3g can not connect to vehicle usb as a note i restored the phone from my back up

Same problems, unfortunatley I updated to 5.0 1 hour before going on holiday for three weeks and no way to restore my phone to try to remove it.At the same time, drop outs, range problems and the most annoying was my music and apps were corrupted and would not function properly :-(

  • Battery drain over night

    Hello,
I have a strange problem with my 9810. Yesterday I pulled out my phone from charging at 7:AM (100%). I put it on GPRS , because i didn't did any browsing on that day and to see how much my battery will last. So after a few phones, sms, emails, I was down to 80% by 10PM. Was very happy with what I saw.
In background were running Accuweather and Facebook with update once every 3 hours. Also I have Battery Bost MAX, and an application which shows me battery icon with procentage.(Smart Blndie). I am in an area with good signal.
Put the phone in the holster, and went to bed. I was very courios to see what the battery shows. At 6 AM i was shocked : 42%... I can't blame it on the applications, because if there were their fault, my battery should discharge the same over day... GPS is off, wifi is off. The phone has 2 weeks (almost new).
I am runing 7.1.0.658 OS...  My screen is at 10%, and turn off over 20 seconds...

    Hi radu_dobre
If you run an social based application you can't say it will be same for night as it will be in day time. But if you think that application are not responsible then you can try  Application resource monitor or Open BlackBerry Device Analyser and run a battery test it will show you which application is using your battery resourses
and you will be able to figure out the problem.

  • MacBook Pro - Battery and Trackpad Heat Issue

    Hi,
I purchased my MBPro 15-inch in December of 08 (so unibody type). For the last few months, after a couple of hours, the trackpad becomes unusable. You can't "click" and navigating around the screen clicks and unclicks and is general extremely sensitive.
When I remove the battery, it works fine (but you have to keep the power supply connected or it dies instantly). As of this week, when I replace the battery, it goes straight back to the problem. Previously, I would get 15-30 minutes of "normal" usage and then the problem would reassert itself.
Should I just get a new battery? Is this the kind of issue that Apple had previously on non-unibody MBPros and required a mass recall and replace of batteries?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is likely the same issue which resulted in a recall of swollen batteries (Battery Update). Have you carefully checked your battery for any signs of swelling or leaking? If you do have a swollen battery, stop using it immediately and get a replacement. You don't want to risk permanent damage to your Mac.
The battery doesn't even have to be in use. Some time ago, someone posted a picture of a spare battery that had never been in a machine, but which had still swelled up and come apart.
There seems to be some question as to whether this is to be expected of all these batteries, or if it is an indication of a factory defect. For this reason, people have had mixed results trying to get the battery replaced for free from Apple. Generally, if you've been able to get 300 cycles out of your battery, your battery is just considered worn out and your chances of a free replacement are remote. If this happens on a newer battery with fewer cycles, I believe decisions are made on a case by case basis.
I actually hope that swelling is a characteristic of a defective battery and not something expected to happen to all of them. Especially since the new Unibody Macs now have a built-in battery that is not supposed to be user replaceable.
    Good luck!

  • Battery charging & CPU heating issue

i've change week ago late 08 White MB 2.4GHz to Unibody 2GHz and notise following:
    1. charging time increse in average in 2 times (from 2hrs to ~4hrs) and last 1,5 hrs avrg takes progress from 90% to 100%.
i found it very strange becouse unibody batt less on 1000 mA/rhs than batt in WhiteBook. Charger power supply in the same time not changed
what reason of so longe charging? is it normal or the bug? in travel conditions this "downgrade" is very noticeble
    2. In "office mode" (web, mail, documents etc, with 15-20% CPU loading) avrg temp of my CPU by iStat is about 67/55C in AC/Batt mode. When I on AC some times it very uncomfortable for palms, especially for left
Is it "normal" or something wrong with my MB?

I can't help you with the battery... mine charges quite quickly. The old macbooks would overheat quite often, and the fans don't do anything to help. It will still work, but there's not much you can do. They seem to have fixed that for the aluminum MBs, but I don't know about the white one...

  • Video and Over heating issues

I have 3 issues to ask about.
o Overheating.-----My laptop gets SUPER hot when playing World of Warcraft. Hot enough that I can not touch the first row of keys on my keyboard, or any part near the video screen.
    o *Video display corruption.*
-----While playing I get huge amounts of artifacts, and if I don't switch from windowed mode or to it when the artifacts show up, the video seems to degrade until it is un-viewable. (Artifacts to me are random triangles that appear between items in game.)
o *Left and Right fans.*-----I have installed a program to help called smcFanControl, and it help a little but doesn't resolve anything. One weirdness with that too is it monitors the left and right fan speed in RPMs and it only registers a right fan speed. Is there a left fan too?

There are indeed left and right fans. You can download a widget from the apple website called iStat Pro that will let you see left and right fan speeds, among other system status features. And yes, I've noticed I run a lot hotter now, perhaps because of the optimization to dual-core. I have smcfancontrol now, but other than setting a minimum fan speed, it doesn't seem very useful.
What are you at? With it sitting on my desk, no ventilation issues, I have 66°C (28°C ambient) with the fans at 3700 RPM
Edit: If you put the menu bar option on, it will show you left and right fan speeds when you click on the menu
