Battery Draining while asleep mac book air

I own a 2011 11' macbook air which just got its battery replaced. We brought it to the apple store and changed the battery recently. It has been doing things that it has now been doing things I have never seen before: losing a lot a battery when I close the lid, sometimes when I open my computer sometimes a folder with a question mark will show up or it will show my login sign really dimly and I have to restart my computer. I know the battery is not draining for apps and bluetooth because I turn all my unnecessary apps off before I close it. I use this computer for work so this is really a big problem and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the limit for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.9 or later.
3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Battery drains while asleep

    Hello,
I have a MBP 2.2Ghz, fairly new, running OS 10.5.2. I've noticed recently that when closing the lid, putting the computer to sleep, the battery drains fairly quickly, not what I'm used to with a sleeping laptop. If I close the lid for 2 hours, I lose 10% of my battery. If I let it sleep all night, it's pretty much dead in the morning. That doesn't seem right.
I know the MPB is asleep, the light is pulsing. But could there be something running in the background that is draining the battery? How would I debug this?
Thanks a lot! This forum is most informative.

There are three possibilities here: 1) the computer isn't really asleep, 2) you have a USB device connected to the computer that is drawing power, 3) there's something wrong with the computer and/or battery.
You mention the flashing sleep indicator so that suggests the computer is going to sleep. But is it staying asleep? You might want to open the Console and see what is happening between the time you put the computer asleep and the time you woke it up. If you put the computer to sleep at 10PM and woke it at 7AM there will be a few entries around those two times involving the computer sleeping and waking but nothing in between. If there is, you know there's something going on.

  • Battery Life of my Mac Book Air

My Macbook Air was giving me almost 12 hrs battery life. Recently it has been reduced to 3 hrs max. The Apps using most battery are blackberry_help_agent and Contacts as shown in the machine. The Blacberry stuff, I presume relates to Blackberry Link which I cannot delete as it relates to backup/sync of my phone. Contacts is having a issue of having 250,000 cards (reported in a seperate thread in this forum https://discussions.apple.com/message/25164362#25164362 ) and is not opening up.
Any pointers to resolve the issue would be highly appreciated.

  • Can I leave my mac book air plugged in all the time at work, without damaging the battery?

I know people may have asked this questions many times, however I intend on using my mac book air at work and would like know I I can leave it on powered on in the office and the unplugged at night?. Would it damage my MacBook?

Yes. It will not damage the battery. You do not need to unplug it at night. If you use it from the AC charage all the time, then about once every two months you should use it on battery power until the battery drops below 20%. Then fully recharge the battery after which you should allow the battery to "rest" for about one hour. It is OK to use the computer during that time but do not yet connect the AC adaptor. Follow this practice and your battery should have a good life.

Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

  • Battery issues with MAC Book Air (late 2010)

Since I updated my MAC Book Air (late 2010) to the latest OS X 10.6.8. the battery is empty after 2.5 hours. Before it worked for approx. 6 hours. Whats your experience?

I have been having the same issues as well. I downloaded Coconut battery to see the status of my battery, but it just clocks down very quickly still. I have disabled flash on Safari as well, and still I am charging my machine 2-3 times a day during the day.

  • My mac book air suddely disconnects many times the wifi while using wifi

my mac book air suddely disconnects many times the wifi while using wifi

Lots of things can impact wifi connections.  If you are at the marginal edge of the wifi range (which depends not only on distance, but what's between you and the transmitter) you may find the connection dropping in and out.  Sometimes a minor repositioning of the computer or transmitter can solve the issue.
As well, interference can also create problems.  For instance, microwave ovens are really good at disrupting 2.4Ghz signals, and that the frequency used most often in wifi routers--so if someone turns on the microwave and it's between you and the transmission point it won't be surprising if the connection drops.  As well, metal blocks the signal fairly effectively, so if (say) ductwork is between the CPU and the wireless router there can be problems.
Finally, I've run into some combos of devices and routers that just don't seem to like each other :-) .  That said, I've not hit that problem with either Air I'm running (an 11" and a 13"), though obviously I've not tried to connect them to every type of router out there.
Just this week I was at a hotel and in my room the hotel wifi was "interesting" with every device I tried (iPhone, Android phone, Kindle Fire, iPad and the two Airs) dropping connection regularly from the work desk.  Turned out if I moved the devices over to the nightstand on the other end of the room (not the best work environment) all of the problems went away, so it clearly was a signal issue and the exact layout of that room and the hotel's wifi.
If the machine has a problem when positioned close to a variety of routers, then I'd suspect a hardware issue with the wifi card in the Air and get that checked by Apple.  Similarly, if your problem is with your home router, I'd check to see if other devices also are getting dropped, since there could be a hardware issue on the router.

  • Battery use Mac Book Air

I have installed MS Office on my Mac Book Air (Processor 1,8 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB).
It seems the computer is using more battery in comparison with using apps like Pages, Numbers, etc.
    Am I right?
Thanks in advance for answering my question.
    Best regards,
    Chris Ouweneel

If you bought it for another Mac and still have that Mac, you can use its optical drive as described in the article I linked to. If you don't have an optical drive available, you can't without either purchasing one or buying the iWork applications from the Mac App Store.

Nobody here can tell you what an Apple store will respond to any question you might ask them.  You need to contact whatever store you are talking about directly to get your answer.
The US online Apple store does not sell machines with Arabic keyboards, that can be seen from their website.

  • My MAC book air keeps shutting down alone, what could I do?

since yesterday my mac book air keep shuting down alone with full battery, why is that? what could I do? Im working on my thesis so I really need my computer.

If this is a new Macbook Air - return it and ask for a replacement. You seem to be having this issue (the one which I described) which is still ongoing and occurring with new Machines. Apple has (in the US) a <14 day return policy do not let it expire. Especially if it occurs while plugged into mains power.
If it is not a new machine one other sometime/part-time cure is an SMC reset or a PRAM/NVRAM reset.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • I have a mac book air 11". When I boot up connected to the huge Thunderbolt  screen it detects the detects the fact and gives me great quality. now I am travelling away from the scree it boots up, nice picture, then switches to rubbish resolution.

I have a Mac Book air 11". Normally at home I connect this to a large Thuderbolt Screen. When booting up it some times gets confused and offers me a low resolution result, but some plugging and unplugging of the screen fixes this. I assume it sometimes "sees" the big screen and sets the resolition accordingly. Sometimes does not. But now... I am away from big screen and cannot get the Macbook air on its one to deliver anything other than really poor resolution. I ahve done displays and chosen all three - but no better. And I have said Choose the Best ONe... again not luck. Any ideas. I read in back posts this was a problem a few years ago.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I believe you have a failing GPU (aka Video Card). Run AHT and see what it tells you. Do not be afraid to run it up to three times in succession if at first it does not detect an error (sometimes errors that are caused by overheating will not show up until the computer is stressed enough - repeating AHT will do that).
As an aside - the MBA was not designed to take the place of a desktop. If you are powering your MBA by leaving it permanently attached to the thunderbolt port on the monitor you are shortening your battery life.

  • Battery drained while computer in use.  Plugged in and computer will not turn on.  Does the battery need to reach a certain charge level first?  Battery is 3 months old.

The battery drained while using the computor so we pluged it in but computor will still not fully turn on.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Hold the Power button for about 5 seconds to turn off the Mac (it may be turned on), and then, press it again. If it doesn't work, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If nothing works, take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get your computer repaired. Also, if you have its charger connected to the computer, is the charger light turned on?

I'll venture that your problem here is that you're using two very different versions of Mac OS X.  The USB adapter has been useful to me when making big downloads or while using other networks, but it might not be your case.
Here's what I would advise, though it may be less than stellar:  Copy the files you need into folders and move them through a USB flash drive or using that external hard drive of yours. (Could the format be the reason your MBA can't see it?). Some stuff like calendars and contacts can be exported too. At least in Lion, I haven't used Tiger in a while.
    Good luck.
