Battery expanded

Hello,
i have a question regarding my battery, my battery had expanded (in size, becomes bulky) with a normal usage of 1,5 years, i'm afraid if this battery is going to explode. and battery capacity is still good.
my question is, can i get warranty with my apple care? if yes, to whom i should contact/email?
thank you.

Remove the battery from your computer immediately. Leaving it in the computer could cause damage.
And Templeton is correct--contact Apple right away, or bring the computer into an Apple store.

So how much a new battery?( i dont have a warrenty i bought it used from a guy and it was alredy like that) and whhy did it expand? how much is it going to cost me?< is it worth the money?

    iPhone Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPhone purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $79, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

  • Battery expanded and cracked casing?

My macbook is now about a year out of warranty (i extended to three years but it is now expired) this past week i noticed the casing by my right palm looked slightly bloated. I researched and found that it is the battery expanding. I stopped using it but only a few days later it has completely cracked the casing by the right palm rest.
Is this covered under some sort of warranty? Ive never haf anything like this happen.
    Thank you!

Better to get it to an Apple service provider asap before too much damage can occur and they can advise if it is covered for warranty repair.

  • MacBook Pro battery expanding – am I out of luck?

I purchased a MacBook Pro (17" Penryn 2.5Ghz) a couple years back in South Africa.  I moved to the US about a year ago and in the last couple months, I have noticed my battery expand.  I cannot use it in the machine anymore as I think it will damage it, and the trackpad button doesn't register a click anymore with the battery in (probably because of the pressure up from the battery).
Am I out of luck with getting a new battery and have to cough up the $125 for a new one?
I checked with the company that I bought the MacBook Pro from (authorized Apple Dealer in South Africa) and they do not cover anything like this.
    Am I out of luck?
    Cheers,
    Calvin

    Hi Calvin,
Unfortunately no one here can truthfully answer that question for you. This is a policy & procedure question for Apple and this message board is for user-to-user discussions. Does (or did) the machine have the AppleCare Protection on it?
There's two ways to handle this, as far as next steps:
1.) Call AppleCare via telephone, explain the situation and ask what options are available to you.
2.) Take the machine (and battery) into an Apple Authorized Service Center or Apple Retail Store (Genius Bar) for visual verification and ask what options are available to you.
You'll find that there's no clear cut response to these issues (battery expansion). For every person that doesn't get it covered by Apple, another person posts that they got it replaced free of charge with no questions asked.

    Definitely see a doctor.
If the phone was under warranty, make an appointment at the genius bar. Actually, you can do that even if it wasn't under warranty (and probably should).
FWIW, nearly every documented case of this happening can be traced to liquid damage or a botched 3rd party repair.

  • Battery expanding out of its casing after only 2 years of normal use.

Has anyone experienced a battery expanding out of its casing after only 2 years of normal use?  Apple (Genius Bar) state that batteries for Macbooks are only guaranteed for 1 year, and I'm not happy with that answer.  I do not have Applecare.  I'm not sure where to take my complaint?
    Thanks.

You can get a battery for about $33 on eBay

  • Battery expanded and burst open-What caused this?

    Hello,
I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro.  It still had  the original battery in it which a few months ago started expanding.  At  first I thought it wasn't a big deal but later on it started getting  much bigger until the actual casing of the battery popped open.   Unfortunately it was installed so slightly pressed into my case where it  seems the keyboard slightly raised up.
I went to OWC's  website and purchased a new battery for this laptop.  It's in there now  and seems to be working fine.  The keyboard seems to be okay also and my  laptop is working perfectly normal.
My question is what  caused it?  Was it some type of defect or just an old battery?  I  actually have 3 images that were taken of this battery.  The concern I  have mostly is will it happen again? I don't want to damage my laptop.   Is it possible fan related?  I think I can hear the fan running but it  doesn't seem to be very loud so I thought maybe one fan (if there's more  than one) went out or maybe it's not running as fast as it should.   Would this be a fan issue or something else that needs to be fixed?  I  have thought of making a Genius Bar appointment to have Apple check it  out but of course if it's nothing wrong with it I'd rather avoid the  appointment since it's a long drive to my nearest Genius Bar.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The battery was old and it failed completely.  That is not that unusual.  Next time that you detect that occurring, replace the battery immediately.  If your MBP is working properly, there should be no problem and a trip to the genius bar is not warranted for that particular issue.
    Ciao.
A battery in a 2008 MBP should be good for up to 300 cycles, sometime more, usually less.

  • IPOD TOUCH 1G BATTERY EXPANDING HELP!!!!11

Summary: My iPod touch has recently had an expanding battery, which has expanded to the point of cracking the glass on the screen and opening the device.
    Steps to Reproduce: N/A
Time in a sock drawer in a case, maybe?
    Expected Results: No battery expansion
Actual Results: The battery is fat and bulging and has cracked and bent the front glass, although the iPod is still usable, the iPod does not charge to full capacity.
    Version: iOS 3.1.3 [7E18]
Notes: If the battery was to expand any more, the battery may explode and likely catch fire. The battery looks like it has been inflated like a balloon at the bottom of it (yes, the iPod did actually open due to the battery)
(I submitted this on Bug Reporter, too)

Hey Weeowey, If the battery has started to expand, more than likely the material inside the battery is leaking out, it is a hazardous material and highly corrosive, get ride of it. But be responsible, cycle it-- 10% off your next purchase is better than having to pay to get ride of this iPod; you can't just throw it in the trash. Take a picture of it and frame it on the wall of your iPod museum! Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • Help! Battery expanded

Hi, i've a MacBook white bought in June 2007 and i'm out of warranty. Three months ago I noticed that my battery has expanded and the charge lasts only an hour and a half. I called the italian apple support but they told me that they can't do anything because I'm out of warranty. They also added that the battery loses efficiency after 300 cycles but I have only made 76. So I think that they should replace my battery because it is not a problem of my ill-usage, but a lack of production as has been documented from the same apple. What should I do? Please give me advice

If you mean the battery is swelling up, I urge you to replace the battery. A bulging battery is a ticking time bomb.
Briefly, Lithium ion batteries if they are over-charged, produce excess heat and expand. Although very rare, such a battery could even explode.

(The internal charging circuits are supposed to control over-charging, but can sometimes fail to do their job.)

  • Battery expanding

    Today my Iphone 3GS exploded.
As its an old phone, i now use it as an ipod for work. so today i pulled it out of the draw and put it on charge, on my return the whole screen had popped out, a circut board was bent and distorted and somthing resembling a silver baloon is where the battery should be.
Out of interest i poked around on the net to see if this fault had been seen before. The results so far a shocking.
there has been an increase in reports of this event over the past few months, with little or no reports found 2 years ago.
the question i ask myself, is there something going on inside the battery that is affected by time? Maybe a chemical reaction ? maybe its contents breaking down and causing the battery to inflate.
what i do know is that this type of battery is no longer used in newer iphones and that there is at present a recall and exchange program for first generation ipod Nano. which also have a tendency to catch fire and expand the chemicals used in the Nano Battery are as i understand the same of those in the iphone 3g.
I would like to hear from anyone who has has a 3g or 3Gs get very hot, expand ,crack or damage itself.
    thanks

  • Iphone 3GS battery expanded

My iphone 3GS battery has expanded. I just updated to IOS 5.0.1. This means the Lithium ion battery charger never terminated or the battery float voltage was exceeded. I am an electrical engineer and have designed several Li+ chargers this failure is very severe and should never happen. There are multiple redundant safety mechanisms that must fail for this to happen. This can result in fire like that associated with the Sony laptop fires a few years ago. Has anyone else had this failure?

    Hi gdgmacguy,
As I stated in my question, I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if so if it also occurred after updating to IOS 5.0.1.
Since a fire in you pocket or your home has the the potential to cause personal injury and property damage I believe the fellow users should be aware of the dangers associated with this type of catastrophic failure.
This same issue with Nokia in 2007 resulted in the recall of 46 million Li+ batteries.

  • Macbook battery expanding in dimension! Help!

I purchased my macbook back in nov 2006 and the only really seriously issue that happened was the failure of my hard drive one month after my 1 year warranty expired (I was foolish not to purchase the apple care)
Now it's been over 2.5 years and last week I thought my table had gone crooked as my macbook couldn't sit flatly. Today I realized my table is perfectly fine, my battery however isn't. It has expanded in dimension, thus making the left side of my macbook higher!
Has this problem happened to anyone here on the forum? I'm very worried. Will the battery explode on me? Will Apple give me a replacement as this isn't supposed to happen? Please help, thanks!
    sincerely,
    Pete

The battery on my MacBook Pro started expanding a few days ago. Of course, Apple Care has expired. I have been having a problem with the computer shutting down without warning when there was 52 to 60% battery left. I had the MacBook Pro repaired twice, once at the Apple Store and I sent it in once. They never fixed the problem, even thought they replace the mother board and several other boards.
After I took the battery out and placed it in a area way from combustible materials, it continued to expand. I have been careful not to keep the MacBook plugged in all the time, usually I unplug it at night. Another reason I shut down at night is that frequently it will lock up when it wakes up, so I have to reboot anyway.

  • Battery expanded, opened wide like The Red Sea (picture)

Please tell me this is not my fault.
    http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2015291&l=3a28c06388&id=699422983
It began with the battery not lasting very long, then the battery started to curve out from the computer so I removed it. After awhile sitting out in the atmosphere it began to expand more and more and more and more until it became what is in the photo.
I purchased my MBPRO July of 07. The logic board died 13 months after I had it, so Apple replaced it for free (without Apple Care) because I cried at the Genius Bar...more or less.
I made an appt. to take it in to show them, but am I going to end up paying for a new one? Or is there a Battery Curse I'm unaware of?

  • Restoring photos from iphone 3G the battery expanded and broke apart the phone can I still get my pictures back?!

SO my iphone 3G is just really messed up over time I saw it expanding but didn't think of it until last week when I looked at it and it was completely wide apart I'm so frustrated. Is there anyway I can restore my pictures or is there a small chip where all the pictures go to on the phone so I can take it in and get my photos back. Is there anyway I can get my photos back it's like the battery of the phone expanded and tore it apart.

If the device has been used as designed, the user would have been regularly copying them from the device to the computer as with any digital camera.
Backups of iDevices are only for restoring to an iDevice.

  • Can I get a new one for free? ... battery expanding... weird sounds.

Hi, ive had my macbook pro for about one and a half of a year. It is one of the first ones, so like many other people had, I have problems. first, my battery is expanidng, the middle cell is getting larger, and second my computer always makes annoying sounds. Like a constant very loud for a computer chipping its the loudest computer ive heard. It's not the fans moving faster say when you're doing alot at once, but it's something else. Its like a very fast and loud clicking. Is this enough to get a trade in? The warrenty ended

As these are nothing more than user-to-user help forums any answer you receive with regard to whether or not you'll get a replacement will be pure guesswork as none of us are Apple employees.
