Battery fine (?), won't run macbook

Hey there
Fairly new (just out of warranty) MacBook.
Battery is charged. Battery works fine in an older MacBook. However, on this laptop disconnecting the power adapter results in instant power off. Using the battery from another MacBook does not change the situation. Computer will not boot without adapter. Battery is recognised at the top of the screen.

CoconutBattery shows excellent battery health. All in all, it would appear to me that the battery is seen, and that it is fine and dandy.
I've reset the SMC.
Apart from this issue the laptop is working normally - although like most of these computers the top assembly had to be replaced (under warranty) where my wrist sits, due to cracking.
Anybody suggest what they think might be wrong, or any way I might hope to improve the situation?

Doing it again. Ran on battery once briefly. No apparent logic to it. Coconut battery shows good battery health. Here's my system info:

I've installed Photoshop Elements 11 on a MacBook Pro- late 2007, OS 10.6.8, 2Gb RAM, 2.2GHz. The Organizer component launches fine and seems to be working, but Photoshop does not. It starts loading for a few seconds and then quits.

    HI,
If iChat is Open and your think Accounts/Screen Names are logged in then go to the Window Menu
This should list the accounts that are logged in with various keystrokes ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and a Number) shown next to them.
Using these should get the Buddy list "back".
It is possible to Hide the Buddy list and then Quit iChat.
iChat will then "remember" where the windows were eve if this was Hidden.
Can you confirm that after reinstalling or restoring from Time Machine with possibly an Earlier Version you have Downloaded the COMBO version of OS X 10.6.8 and "run the COMBO" (Installed it - again) to update iChat ?
It is possible the text chat Window is also Hidden on double clicking a Buddy.
The easiest way for this to happen is to use a second Display and drag some windows to the second Display.
iChat "remembers" where you last had Outgoing Chats so Audio and Video windows will be where you left them as will Text Chats.
Incoming Chat Invites are normally in set places unless there is a chat already open to that Buddy.
With  Windowing issue like this is sometimes pays to delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself  (on it's own) and restart iChat  (this plist holds the window positions amongst other things)

  • Brand new macbook won't run off battery, only when plugged in

I just go my new macbook last week and being new to mac computers, I didn't realize that it won't run from just the battery power until last night. The battery light shows it's fully charged. If i'm working with it plugged in and it becomes unplugged, it shuts down and when I reconnect the power cord, it resumes from the same webpage or whatever I was last working on. I opened up the battery compartment and removed the battery and then held the power button for 5 seconds, but that didn't fix the problem. Does anyone know what I might try or if something needs to be set up in order to run off the battery? Thanks! Leigh

    Hello leighdk,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can by all means take some good advise from the people on this board in response to you problem.
But here is the best advise, especially since you're new to Mac.
Call Apple Care or take it back to the store and have them check it out. It is under warranty. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return the Mac for a completely different or give it back because you do not like it. they may try to charge you a restocking fee but this should not be the case since there is an issue with you machine.
Call Apple, see what they say... Then if you can't get it resolved then post back and maybe we can give you some sound advise.

  • T61 power adaptors do nothing - won't run computer & won't charge battery

My T61 suddenly won't run on the power adaptor, or charge the battery.   I have several OEM power adaptors and none of them do anything plugged into this T61.  The computer runs fine on a battery charged in another T61.

Assuming the power adapters are good, you'll need to replace the motherboard.

  • MBP won't run on battery

As of a couple days ago, my MacBook Pro won't run off its battery. When I press the button, all the battery lights light up, indicating a full charge. But the computer won't turn on. Only when I plug in the power adapter does it work. If I pull out the adapter when the computer is on, it shuts off.
Yesterday, I noticed something peculiar. The light in front, which normally pulses when the computer is in sleep mode, was sort of half-pulsing. It would slowly fade on, then immediately flick off. Not sure if this is an indication of anything.
Is this definitely a hardware problem? I have an appointment to see a Genius tomorrow, but I'm wondering if there's something I can do on my own first.
    Thanks.

  • PB won't run on battery

I have tried everything and been to the genius bar, they can't solve either.. I have new apple battery, have passed all hardware ans software test, even the extended apple tech's test. all passed.. PB 15" 1.5G bt2.. won't power up on battery, shuts down if ac plug is pulled. sometimes it won't power up at all (w/a/c) until I re-set the pram by holding down power button 5 sec.. all indications are to the Pram battery which I replaced w/a used one.. it worked for about a day and now back to the same..do I need another Pram batt? I won't pay apples service prices because I have seen what it takes to change the pram, I could do it in 15 minutes.. but Apple will not sell me a new pram over the counter. Not sure if i should buy one on line for 80.00 or not.. I may have to sell and get a new(used) Imac or something. I really love this PB and don't like the macbook pro, mostly for the price.
any resolutions out there? thanks, Brad

The Apple hardware test doesn't test the charging circuit ... there are only 4 components to the charging/power circuit: Power adapter, DC-in card, battery, and logic board. Assuming the power adapter is good (Apple store should have confirmed that) and the battery is good (when you push the button on the back the 5 LEDs light up?) .... does the power adapter charge the battery when both are in use in the system? A DC-in card problem usually manifests itself by not charging the battery and/or not running on a/c. If the battery is charging and as you said it runs on a/c, the DC-in card is probably OK. Before you get excited about the logic board, since it seems that you had some success with a used PRAM battery, go buy one from ifixit.com or pbparts.com. If that doesn't cure it, then it's likely there's a logic board problem. It's been reported that Apple offers a fix everything service for $350 and up, which is a price performer if you need a new logic board (actually a refurbished board), or you can buy a used one and install it yourself.

  • 17" MacBook Pro won't run on AC power

Ok, this is a unique situation and I have searched the forums and can't find an answer, my early MacBook pro will not run on straight AC power, it will power up and run on battery power and the battery WILL charge while the machine is powered OFF but will not charge while the machine is on, so anybody have a solution?
Will run on battery power, will not run with battery removed on AC Only, battery will charge with AC adapter ONLY when machine is powered down, will NOT charge when machine is on.
    Thanks for your help

Ok, booted into safe mode still same results , won't run on AC power, turn unit off light turns orange on power adapter and battery charges as normal, AC adapter plugged in light is green not charging while  unit in on and will not run with battery removed, if I remove MagSafe it intermittently turns orange then back to green....Still perplexed as machine knows AC adapters connected and will charge but will not power or charge when unit is on.

  • Frozen ipod, battery won't run down

    ok here's the problem
    1. the buttons won't work
    2. when i hook it up to my computer, it doesn't show up
    3. the battery won't run down, so it's stuck on and i can't do anything.
any ideas??? please help. i have no idea what to do!!!!!!

I'm not sure the 5Rs apply here. This happens to me every once in a while on my 3G/40GB. Absolutely no response, and no way to reset or restore. But the battery does run down because the screen stays on and I think even the hard drive is spinning. This runs the battery down, it quits, and the screen goes blank. After this, I can plug it in, it starts up again and then recharges. No music or files lost, and it works fine afterwards. I've tried resetting, restoring software, and reloading all the music. Still happens, but only every few months.

Not using Boot Camp, but you should be able to using virtualization software such as Parallels to run Windows concurrently with OS X.

Upon unplugging my laptop last night, it simply shut off, and since won't run off of the battery. It seems like the battery isn't connecting to the motherboard, but I ran a test in the support assistant that gives me this:
Is one of the cells dead, and that is why it isn't working, or could it still be failure to connect to the motherboard?
I have another battery, but unfortunately not currently with me.
The battery also won't charge past 86%, but again, I'm unsure of the cause. I left it out overnight and long held the power this morning to no avail as well.
    Any help is appriciated. Thanks.

I understand your notebook battery no longer powers the notebook and the battery test has failed.
Reviewing the battery test, it looks like the battery (when fully charged) is only holding about 35% of the original charge.  This means that the battery life wont' last very long as it will drain much faster.  This is the most likely reason that the battery is no longer functioning is that it has reached the end of its usage.  The battery test requires the battery to interface with the motherboard for it to test the battery, so I don't find the motherboard very likely at this point since the test was able to detect the battery.
You stated you have another battery to try.  Try using that battery at your convenience to see if it can power up the notebook before purchasing a new battery.  Should you proceed with a new battery, the replacement part number should be listed on the current battery.
Let me know if this answered your question.

  • Safari 3.0.2 won't run after 3.0.1 worked fine

Safari 3.0.1 was working fine for me on win xp pro after copying fonts to address text problem. I downloaded 3.0.2 and installed. the install appeared to work fine, but when I try to run safari, i get no error and it won't run. I've turned off firewall & AV software, etc. I have uninstalled and re-installed. I even tried reinstalling 3.0.1 after uninstalling 3.0.2. all to no avail. any suggestions?
      Windows XP Pro

just a suggestion but have you tried cleaning safari from your registry?? The reason I ask is because if you save bookmarks then uninstall safari and then reinstall it still has your bookmarks, so not all files are being deleted upon uninstall. Don't know if that helps you but its worth a try

  • Clamshell Won't run on my new battery

I finally bought a new battery for my Clamshell; charged it up and the computer won't run on the new battery. When I try to start up with the power cord unplugged the machine won't start up (nothing). When I start it up on the plug and unplug it after it's running it goes dead. It looks like the meter shows full. I charged it for 10 plus hours just like the instructions suggested. The machine has never had a working battery so I might be overlooking something really obvious. I looked around in the control panels and don't see anywhere I could manually switch to the battery.
It's a new battery not a used one, so I doubt there is anything wrong with that. I'm stumped.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Try resetting the Power Management Unit.
    2. If that doesn't work next carefully check the cleanliness of the pins in the battery housing.
    3. If none of that works I'd be seeking advice from the retailer who sold you a new product that doesn't work.
