  • Graphics card upgrade for HP G71-340US

Hello, I have a HP G71-340US running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with a Intel GMA4500MHD. I know that this graphic card has a very low performance rate, so is there any alternate graphics available for me to purchase to put it in this system. With the discrete card, I will be able to multitask without any gridlocks. Thank you very much.

I would think it is wise to purchase a new laptop. My parent owns a G71-340us and the model is pretty old. HP will charge a lot of money just to replace the motherboard. You could spend a little more money for a new laptop with better specification. Plus, count the time and money that they have to dismantle the system, take all the parts out, and reinsert it again. If you still want to look for the part, there is a link for parts in the HP website. http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?type=PROD&SearchText=VM114UA

  • G71-340US Notebook Volume

The sound volume is extremely low, with or without headphones connected. To listen to any video being played whether it is streaming, playback, or a DVD, you have to be in a room with almost no noise. It is very difficult to watch a movie with not being able to hear any sounds. The plus and minus volume keys have no control over the sound.

  • HP G62 Battery causes slow boot - take battery out and boots normally - HP G62-340US Notebook

    All,
Very strange thing going on, and I've not seen it on these forums, so here I go.
Turn on laptop, the HP screen appears, and about 20 minutes later, Windows starts loading.
Turn off laptop, pull the battery, turn on the laptop, and Windows starts loading within 10 seconds (normal).
When the battery is in, EVERYTHING takes 15-20 minutes to start.  If I select F2 for settings, it takes that long.  If I hit F10 (or possibly F8), same delay.      If I take the battery out, it works perfectly.
So....I of course assume bad battery......but I've never seen this type of behavoir in ANY computer previously.
    Any suggestions?
    HP G62-340US Notebook
    Windows 7 Home Premium
No error message and no changes made to system.
    Thanks

  • Need to find a replacement battery for a mid 2007 Mac notebook. MBO061LL/A

Recently picked up a Mid 2007 Mac notebook, white.  The battery is shot.  Need to pick up a replacement.  The batteries available at Amazon don't come with rave reviews.  Does anybody have a source or a reputable company where I can pick up a new battery, for a reasonable price?

Here is a link for the battery, the price is not that polite ($90) but it is the right battery I believe.
    Check it out ! http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-White-Battery-020-5071-B-A1185-for-MacBook-13-A1181- 2006-2007-2008-2009-/221371268219

  • External/Universal Battery for Notebooks

Has anyone used the APC Universal Notebook Battery -80 with a Powerbook? Saw someone on a plane with an external battery, worked fine on a Mac, and it was from Brookstone. Brookstone is no longer selling it but is selling the APC. Anyone know anything about it, or a way to get a powerbook battery to last longer on long flights, like for movies.
Powerbook G4, bought in June 2004, 12" screen.

Here are two different sights that will give you some options. I just did a quick Google search for external powerbook batteries and came up with them. I hope they help.

    http://www.atbatt.com/product.asp?ItemID=7927&ID=pd&src=goog&kw=external+battery
The top one is a advertized more powerful internal battery for a 12 inch (look around the sight for others) and the second link is a universal external battery that is supposed to have a tip for the apple laptops.

  • Replacement battery for tx2-1274dx notebook PC

My laptop is 15 months old and already getting a message to replace battery. Battery power lasts approximately 30 minutes. I have been unable to locate a replacement battery. That model tx2-1274dx, doesn't show up on the hp website. Where can I get a replacement battery? Thanks in advance  benroz3

    Thanks for the post benroz3!
There are a couple ways to get an HP replacement battery for your laptop.
First you can call in to HP Support if you like and a replacement can be set up for you and purchased, or you can go to the HP Parts Store and search using the product number or serial number of your system. It will show you the battery options available and you can directly purchase from there as well.
    Hope this helps you out!

  • HP G71-340us With Several Power Issues

My wife's HP G71-340us developed a problem with the power "brick" that came with the computer.  The part that plugs directly into the side of the notebook cracked open, exposing the wires inside the cord.  The cord itself began to fail, only supplying power to the notebook on an intermittent basis.
Finally, after struggling with that power adapter for quite awhile, it had finally failed, completely, so I ordered a replacement.  The replacement arrived today - uncovering a new layer of problems.  Problems that I'm not sure how to troubleshoot.
    The details:
AC cord plugged into the wall and connected to the power adapter "brick", the adapter then plugged into the side of the notebook:  the light where the adapter plugs into the notebook comes on, solid blue.  Great!
The "charging" light on the front of the notebook blinks - 1 short blink, 1 long blink.
    The battery does not charge
When turning on the computer, it boots to Windows, only to lose power and turn off after a minute (or less).
To try to troubleshoot, I removed the battery and tried turning on the computer under AC power - it will not even turn on.
I then put the battery back into the computer - it boots to Windows, then loses power.
It is obvious to me that somehow, the computer is not getting the power it needs.  But, what confuses me is that the light by the area the adapter plugs into the notebook turns on steady blue, giving me the impression that it is, indeed, getting power.
That is where I am at... and I am at a loss.  If you need more information, or clarification, I'd be happy to give you what you need.  If you have any ideas as to what is wrong, or how to continue, I'd be grateful to hear your recommendation!

Something cracked the power jack on the AC adapter open...it was not in the passive voice just "cracked". It takes some accident or event, When that happened and you kept using it you fried the motherboard. The pwer The laptop needs the motherboard replaced. I could try to sugarcoat, but that would not be honest. The power jack inside the laptop is not bad, it is the internal charging circuitry of the motherboard. So the light turns blue but nothing happens from there to the battery and to the motherboard itself.

  • Any Hope for a G62-340US Fix?

Next month the warranty expires on my G62-340US. The model is commonly known for its repeated freezes, blue screens, and other problems. I'm not aware of any other recent HP laptop subject to more opprobrium and, in my experience, rightly so.
I'm here to ask users whether they think we have a prayer of getting the model fixed enough through HP so that it's actually useful. The G62-340US is now quite broadly-recognized as having problems. I not only wouldn't sell mine to someone else, I wouldn't give it away except to a tinkerer. On the other hand, like many other users, I'm rather unsure HP can fix this one. It hasn't done very well so far.
This isn't my first rodeo. I've been around laptops for, well, decades, and I've had my share of problems, virtually all of which I've fixed without tech support. With the G62, we have tried everything, literally: clean installations, manual installation of drivers, installing old drivers, installing old BIOS releases, updating everything, reducing the number of programs running on startup, limiting the video demand, upgrading the RAM, running every possible HP and Microsoft utility, and even more things I can't recall to name (yes, including avoiding overheating). Were I alone, the frustration would be enough. But it's not just my time lost in trying to make this model work. Frustration abounds not just on this forum. but on countless others, including Microsoft's. Would that I had used it enough to recognize its problems and return it timely to Staples, which at least had the good judgment to quit selling it. HP, however, still peddles it to students and others looking for a solid, reasonably priced laptops.
HP support apparently is in disarray, giving customers varying and seemingly contradictory advice. And you don't have to read the forums to figure this out. You need not even call HP. Some time back HP posted firmware F.29, apparently to fix freezes under certain circumstances, but instead made things worse and now only F.27 is supported. (The G62-340US has an AMD processor. Similarly numbered models have Intel processors, but evidently similar problems, and have a different current BIOS.) One third-party support site still refers users to F.28, which the site correctly notes is, as of Oct. 27, 2011, still made available on HP's FTP site. At least tell customers clearly which firmware to use and whether they are better off rolling back their BIOS upgrades.
Is the BIOS fix as yet to be released? Is there any fix? Are significant numbers of the computers inherently defective, at least as combined and assembled together by HP, at the system board or processor level? Whatever the problems, give us a break, HP, and take the machines back for recycling while giving users a voucher or discount or something other than a run around in tech support. Instead, I suppose my G62 will find its way to a basement or a garage. But I don't like the waste in that option, and I'm sure many others are not particularly fond of it, either.
For those interested in just some of the abounding complaints, please see these links. G62-340US owners, read them and weep, I suppose. Better yet, come back here and tell your stories.

  • CMOS / RTC Battery for Satellite A100-326?

    Hi,
    I'm after a replacement CMOS/RTC battery for my A100-326
I've got my machine open and located the battery but it has no model number on it.
I have contacted a Toshiba assistance center and they replied that the battery is part of the board and the whole board has to be replaced. However, if I can find the reference for the battery, I have a friend in a computer store that will replace it with a new one.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
    Regards
    Srgio

    Hi
Why you want to replace this
    Such battery is reachable
To charge the RTC battery you have to connect the AC adaptor to the notebook.
The main battery should be inserted too and the notebook should run for 20.24 hours.
Anyway, as far as I know its a Lithium Ion RTC battery 3V and 14mAh

What model G3 PowerBook do you have? You need to add this info & your OS to your profile.

  • Audio Service not running G71-445US Notebook

Hi,   Just observed last night that there is a little X on the speaker icon on my toolbar.  The sound still plays.  I tried following the instructions on another post for another model of this laptop, and do not see Audio Service listed under services .  The other 3 things..Multimedia Class Scheduler,Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are all listed as started.  I just wonder if this means the drivers are missing.
This is a G71-445US notebook  and the operating system is Windows7.
Also have an issue with Intel Graphics driver as advised by a little flag on my tool bar.  I know there is a problem because the screen goes blank, and recently, the computer shuts down now.   I have tried troubleshooting but everytime i look into this, a window comes up and says "the solution could not be downloaded"..
The problem with the Graphics driver has been about 4 months,, the audio issue just appeared yesterday.
Also, the pc is now getting VERY hot in a short period of time.  I have compressed air and intend to dust it out today.  Just wondering if that is related to either of the above issues.
    Thank you for your time,
    Melanie

    Hi Melanie9,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you having a few issues with your HP G71-445US Notebook PC. I would suggest that we deal with the overheating issue first.
Follow the steps in this document for Troubleshooting an Overheating and Auto Shutdown Issue. If this helps, then try this document for Resolving Video Graphics Issues to see if this resolves the graphics issue.
If you are able to get the visual back up on your Notebook display screen, then try Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7) to restore the original drivers.
If this does not resolve your issue then please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link to get the support number for your region. Contact HP Worldwide.
I hope this information helps, please let me know how it goes or if you have any questions.
Good luck and have a great day!

  • No sound after Windows 10 free upgrade from WIN7 on G71-340US laptop with IDT CODEC.

After free upgrade from WIN7 to WIN10 my laptop no longer has any sound (with internal or external speakers). I have tried uninstalling IDT driver and allowing Windows 10 to reinstall the driver through scan for HW changes - still no sound. I would appreciate any guidance or fixes for this problem. Thank you.

I am happy to report I now have sound on my G71-340US laptop. After further trial and error troubleshooting I found that there is an app called IDT PC Audio (aka IDT HD Sound) installed on my laptop by HP (OEM) I think. While I'm not exactly sure what this app's function is it appears it is related to activating IDT HD Codec drivers functionality. Somehow I decided to look in Task Manager - Startup and saw this IDT PC Audio listed. I clicked on disable and then a minute later clicked on enable. After I did that, as simple as it appears, I now was able to hear sound both on internal and external speakers. This is the first time I heard any sound since upgrading to WIN10. I have checked it several times by re-booting my laptop and each and every time I now have sound. I'll continue to test this through the week and see if it continues to be OK. Meanwhile, I thought I would share this potential fix (or workaround) with all concerned. Perhaps others will find this useful and provide me your feedback. Keeping my fingers crossed! PS. BTW, if anyone out there knows what IDT PC Audio is by all means share your knowledge. I am curious why this app doesn't appear more often in the forum posts and how it may relate to the WIN10 upgrade. Sorry, but I don't recall what prompted me to look at Task Manager - Startup but I'm glad I did. It's great to hear sound again!
