Battery from Equium L20 does not charge

I have a Equium L20 which battery will not charge. The Windows Powermanagment says it is charging but the percentage never increases, I have tried different batteries with the same symptom as result.
The battery LED is glowing orange as if its charging but not matter how long I leave it on the charge, percentage does not change. Windows detects the battery as fine with all the correct info.. I have tried to remove the battery but to no avail. .
Is this a software or a hardware issue?
Edited by: ADMIN on 07-Jun-2008 08:12

I have the same problem as you and have just posted a question on the forum about it.
Here is my story:
I have a TOSHIBA L20-197 laptop.
The battery will not accept any charge.
The computer says that the battery status is: 'CHARGING 0%' but it isn't charging at all so I have to run the computer off the mains.
The battery light, which should show ORANGE, and then GREEN when the battery if fully charged, is showing GREEN all the time.
The power lead got broken at the end where it goes into the computer and it's possible that I may have caused a short while fixing it.
Maybe there is a fuse somewhere that I've managed to blow?
I have now purchased a new battery and it still won't work so it's not the battery that is at fault.
HELP!!!!!!!!!

  • Battery of Equium series would not charge

    Hi all,
My laptop is having an unusual problem. It doesn't charge, I have changed the charger also but still i m having the same problem.
I dont know what the problem is...so please if anyone have any idea what may be the problem is and its solution than let me know.
I was using the three pin charger and now I have purchased a 2 pin charger.
Does it make any difference ?

    Hi,
which equium do you have? Would be interesting for us, because there are many Equiums out there.
Regarding your problem: you said the notebook does not charge. The charger you mean is this that external thing which must be connected between your notebook and the wall? This is an AC-adapter. :) Just for better understatement.
You mean your AC-adapter wont charge your battery of your notebook. But are you really sure? I mean, it could be that something in your machine is defective. It could be something on the mainboard (which is that very important thing IN your machine) or your battery is malfunctioning.
Maybe it would be better to bring your machine to a technician which is familiar with these machines or contact a local authorized servicepartner to bring them your machine for a hardwarecheckup.
But before contacting someone which will do something with your machine you can try following:
Remove the battery and re-insert it, then try it with both AC-adapters ("chargers"). If it works then check if this happens more than once, otherwise bring your machine to an ASP. By following this link you can find the nearest available servicepartner in your country:

  • High pitched whine from netbook when power is plugged in. Does not charge when computer is on.

I have a specific power / charging issue On HP Mini Netbook 210-1077CA. Windows 7 starter ( I think)
    With the computer OFF ...
When I plug in the power it gives a high pitched whine. Red battery light is on, showing it is charging. (computer is off.)
To test the computer I have turned in on after charging for a little while and the % of charge is increasing. Showing that it is charging properly.
    HOWEVER,
    With the computer ON
The battery light turns white and does not stay on, but flashes periodically. Its not a constant flash but a pause of several seconds between a series of flashes.  The manual indicates a Flashing Battery light seems to indicate either going into a sleep mode because there is not enough battery power (however my power is at 14% normally this happens I think at 10%) OR as the manual indicates there is a problem with the battery.
I removed battery, removed power plug and then pushed power button holding for 15 seconds.  No change in behaviour.
I also tried to boot the computer with just the power plug in and no battery. But it would not turn on. I don't know if that is normal or not?? Interestingly the White battery light, while trying to turn the computer on without the battery stayed white no flash.  (but did not turn on either as I mentioned.)
I read a few posts that say that the whining are Capacitors doing some sort of harmonics. Although I have never heard this sound before.
Im sure that this problem is not fans or heat sinks etc. Since in only happens when the computer is off  and charging. In my opinion its definitely electrical. The sound seems to be coming from the center of the netbook or the battery area..
    So my conclusion is ...
    1. Battery has problem and needs to be replace,
    2. Maybe the AC adapter is bad, since it doesnt boot w/out battery (if it is suppose to ??)  Also since it seems when I turn it on it goes from Red charging to white flashing as soon as it starts to boot. Could it be the AC adapter is not giving out enough power to charge and to boot at the same time.
Anyway can anyone help me on this issue. Im not sure whether to start by getting a new AC adapter or new battery. I would not like to buy new both and just throw money at it.
    Maybe it is not either???
    You help would be appreciated.
    Regards.

    I have resolved the problem.
I replaced the AC adapter. Everying works find now. I tested runing the computer without the battery, and it works. So I might add that a possible test for an adapter that is not functioning properly is to try running it w/out the battery. If it does not run its possible that the ac adapter does not work.
    Thanks.

  • Lenovo G550 does not charge battery!!!! please help!!!!! :c

So i havent used my Lenovo for about a year and a half because i had lost the originial charger. ive recently bought a new cheap charger from amazon and thought it was the charger that was the problem when i looked it up online and found out it may be a bug from Windows 7. Now, this charger does turn on my laptop, but it does not charge it. It simply says "plugged in, not charging" and when i was reading an article on how to fix this , i was trying for hours to uninstall a program under device management called Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Conntrol Method Battery, because it was said that uninstalling this would help the system charge again. but after countless hours, i found that the program reinstalls itself and i am left with a laptop that just wont charge. my laptop says 0% (plugged in, not charging) and i really need this to work for the upcoming school year. i dont know what else to do! whenever i disconnect the wire the system completely shuts down and if i dont fix this problem ill just have to get rid of my Lenovo G550, which i absolutely LOVE! please, anyone help me! do i need to install a new version of windows? do i need to uninstall something? or is my laptop absolutely done for?
    please, please, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hi Chernandez51,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it seems like the battery was fully discharged after not being for a long time (batteries degrade overtime due to age, heat, and usage).
What you can try is to charge the battery for an hour or two while the computer is off then observe the status light indicators.
     - Link to picture
If the battery still doesn't take a charge then the battery might have gone faulty and needs a replacement.
For best compatibility, I recommend you use a Lenovo approved AC adapter and charger. You can buy one from the lenovo spare parts website (www.lenovospareparts.com) or you can buy online (eg. Amazon, Ebay, etc.) but ensure that there's a Lenovo FRU part number on the item..

  • My IPad Retnia does not charge when plugged in using the USB from my computer to car adapter, how can I fix this to be able to have flexibility in charging?

When I plug me IPad into the USB connector to my laptop or into my car charger, it show as not charging. How can I fix this so that I can charge my Pad in these settings?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
Or - Recalibrate the battery. See link below.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • 12 volt plug charger does not charge battery

the green light on computer connector is on, the computer shows the icon that is connected to external power, but the battery dies. It works fine on wall outlet. This was first time I used plug. All seems fine but it does not charge the battery.
Apple is good at selling computers, but I just spent over an hour to get an answer for this and this is the best i found so far. We is the product support?
    Please, someone helps.

Apple does not make a 12 V power adapter (i.e. car power adapter) for the MBP. What type of power adapter are you using?
If you are using the MagSafe Airline Adapter, which comes with the larger 'cigarette-lighter-style" adapter that +looks like+ it will work in a car power port, be aware that the MagSafe Airline Adapter _does not_ work for 12 V power from an auto - it explicitly states that in the product description.
If you are using an inverter, what are the power specifications for the inverter? Can it deliver the 85 W of power the MBP power adapter requires?

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 does not charge battery

    Hi -
When I plug the power cord into my laptop, the battery either does not charge, or charges on and off for about a second each time.
I am 100% sure it is not the power cord, because a light in port on the laptop lights up even when the battery is out, leading me to believe that power is definitely getting to the laptop, but something inside the laptop is disconnected or else the outlet where I plug the cord into the computer is bent or something.
I cannot turn on the computer with the battery out and the power cord plugged in.  It might turn on for a few seconds then turn off.
Taking out the battery and putting it back in does not help.
Jostling the plug rarely helps, and the most that happens is the charging light flashes on and off.
It is no longer under warranty (I have had the laptop for about 2 1/2 years).
I heard from a friend that HP laptops sometimes have this problem.  Does anyone know how I can fix it???  I would rather not send it to HP for maintenance.  It would take waaay too long.  And I'm already mad that they (purposefully?) engineered the laptop so the fan is nearly impossible to get to, even though the fan clogging up is the first problem on any laptop.  It is my only computer and it is extremely important that I am able to use it for school.
Any insight would be VERY helpful.  Thanks!

I have the exatcly same problem. I am sure that it is neither battary or AC adapter as I have bought both new to fix this issue but problem remains same.
It gives me a impression that within the laptop (mother board or power connector) has the issues which does not give the power to the laptop to work , nor it gives to battary to charge.
Let me mention that when I bought a new battary, my laptop worked for 4-5 hours till the charge ran out from the battary and now again I am landed up to the same problem.
any body who has come across this problem and got it fixed , it will be really great if you can share your experience.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Battery Icon Shows "18% available (plugged in, charging)" But Battery Does Not Charge

The PC does operate on the battery only, just fine (so far, as there is only 18% remaining).
The PC operates with AC plugged in also.
LED by AC input is amber (looks orange to me).
According to the User Guide that indicates charging.
    Battery Check status is "OK"
I have had it on charge for over 12 hours and still at 18%.
When starting up, the battery icon shows charging movement then stops at a low level.
I measured the charger output at 20VDC (no load). Which is as specified.
I have tried all the suggestions about uninstalling and reinstalling  the ACPI Complient Control Method.......etc.
Removing battery, shutting down and all the rest of suggestions.
    No help.
I was told there was a BIOS update which I installed. (I'll post about that in another board). No help.
If I ever get this fixed it's going back to the vendor, Should not have this happen with less than 3 months since new.
Just got it back from repair for battery latch falling off. (Back plate was changed.)
    Anything new would be appreciated.

  • Battery does not charge after rescue & recovery

    Hi,
Yesterday I set up my computer fresh from the preload on the harddrive due to slowness, instabilities, inability to use VPN etc. After the reinstallation of OS and securiy updates, my battery does not charge anymore. The battery indicator on the front panel keeps blinking, and the Lenovo message center reports that irrepairable damage has been done to the battery and that it must be replaced.
My battery is not among the recalls by Lenovo.
Any idea if there's any option but buying a new battery? It just does not seem right that the battery is unusable after new OS setup.
    Cheers, Thorbjorn

  • Is there a settings in Win7/HP feature that the battery does not charge until it is under 95%

I just purchased a HP Pavilion dv6-7043cl laptop and have noticed that the battery does not charge unless it is below 95%.  I am very concercerned because I had a different laptop from a different manufacturer where I had battery issues.  That manufacturer was not helpful and I will never buy from them again.
I have heard good things about HP which is why I decided to buy this particular machine.  However,  I have only had this machine for 3 days and now this is starting.  I cannot find a Win 7 (I am running Win 7 home premuim 64 bit) setting that controls when the battery starts to charge.  Is this a function of the HP Power Manager?  Is this a feature of the battery HP ships with their laptops?  Or is this indicating a problem with this machine?   I am a college student and I need a reliable laptop for school.
Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Toshiba Satellite S1950-801
The battery from the wireless keybord charge no longer, the powerbutton does not work anymore, what can i do ?
I know the computer is old, but maby there is a solution for this problem.

    > The battery from the wireless keyboard charge no longer, the power button does not work anymore, what can I do?
You are not able to power up the notebook?
hm sounds like a notebooks hardware problem and possibly this is the reason why the external Wlan keyboard does not charge the notebook is dead and therefore the keyboard does not functions
Why the notebook does not power up?
Hmmm. goo question. Maybe the AC adaptor is dead and cannot provide power to notebook and notebook battery is dead too.
This is possible but in most case its not the reason in most cases the motherboard could be faulty
However, only the notebook technician can check the hardware parts and could provide more details

  • Battery does not charge while plugged in

My computer is plugged into the charger and does not lose power while plugged in, however, it does not charge either. It currently sits at 63% power and says "Battery is not charging" when I mouse over the battery icon and verifies that it is plugged into the power adapter. Basically the problem is that it doesn't lose power when its charged in, but the battery isn't recharging either. The light on the charger isn't lighting up either, however, I've verified that its the computer's problem by plugging my charger into my roommates identical laptop. Any idea what the issue is? Thanks everyone.

I also have this problem with my Mid-2007 MBP.
I have reset the SMC to no avail.
I've noticed that if my battery appears to be charging (albeit slowly) and then I try to play World of Warcraft, it switches to "Not Charging" once the fans startup.
I just had it serviced and they replaced the logic board 1 wk ago and then I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Could any of this have an effect?

    Hi
Please dont use any batteries which are not 100% compatible with your notebook!
This can damage motherboard and other 3rd notebook parts.
As far as I know the A100 is a one of the newest Toshiba series and the warranty should be valid.
For me it sounds a little bit like a motherboards power supply electronic fault.
Who knows ?:| The notebook check is necessary to locate the malfunction.
So dont waste the time and contact immediately the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.
They technicians should check the notebook and should provide a help.
    Good luck

Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.
Will the data on my iPhone be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPhone will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPhone and does not offer any data transfer service. During service, Apple may exchange your iPhone with an iPhone that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability.
Following service, your iPhone may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS.
