Battery fully discharging while idle and plugged-in ...

I've had a new "standard" mid-2011 MBA 13-inch, 128GB,  since Monday (three days of use), and I'm encountering an issue where I can't seem to get any AC (chargers) to work reliably. I was using the system today, for example, until about noon, with the AC plugged-in, the battery fully-charged, and apparently working. I had a conference call in another room, and when I came back two hours later, the system had shut itself off, and no light on the AC cord. System would not even power on. I unplugged everything, moved the AC cord to another outlet (first one is perfectly fine!), plugged it in, and the system started up, but the battery showed 2% charge - after two hours of inactivity while plugged-in. Sounds like something is seriously wrong either with this new MBA/or accessories, or a bug in Lion. I did migrate from an older MBA, so I wonder if I've migrated some setting that is causing problems ... Any ideas are appreciated! Michael

  • Tecra S3: battery fully discharged if it's off for one week

    I´ve got a Tecra S3:
    Intel® Centrino? Mobiltechnologie Intel® Pentium® M Prozessor 760
    XP Pro/ 1024 DDR2/ 80GB/ 15.0" TFT/ DVD-Super-Multi(DL)/ Wi-Fi
Mostly I work with ac power. Only sometimes I need the battery.
But when I use the battery, discharge it fully.
After that the battery is charged over night.
When my S3 is off for one week,
my battery is fully discharged and the S3 needs ac power.
    Is that normal?
Why is my battery fully discharged
if the S3 is off for only one week.

    Hi
The fact is that battery looses the energy also if the notebook is disabled.
Im not sure about the time and how long should it takes.
The same thing happens on my old Satellite A50.
I thing it depends from the battery performance and how old the battery is.

  • IPad battery fully discharged and now will not take a new charge

I've had this baby plugged in for 6 hours and it won't even charge to 10%.  I am using an Apple supplied cord and charger.

Plug the USB cable into your computer. The iPad will say "Not Charging", however, it will charge but slowly.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • T400 Battery slowly discharging while plugged in

My T400 hasnt been charging for quite awhile now. According to my computer there's no AC adapter plugged in at all and it's been running off battery for the last month or two, which obviously isnt exactly correct. Especially since at one point I took my battery out while it was plugged in and it was fine, but wouldnt boot up without the battery in. I got my battery and AC adapter tested at Batteries Plus and they said the battery was good and that the AC adapter's voltage was jumping around a bit, which I found out is supposedly normal? I didnt know that at the time though, so I bought a cheap AC adpater off ebay that was compatible. Didnt fix anything either.
So, I'm guessing it's probably the main board or a loose lead to the power cord input. When I plug in the AC adapter the plug at the computer is pretty loose, and may not be all the way in.. I can see a strip of silver where the plug isnt flush with the computer, is that normal?
A month or two some water got spilled around the laptop, so there could possibly be some corrosion or something on the leads of the main board. Is there anything I can do to clean it up, if so? Also, will the Mini-dock still work for my laptop if the mainboard isnt charging the battery? Is it worth it to replace the main board on a T400, I'm guessing it'll be pretty expensive?
I'm thinking about going to the MSU Computer service center and paying $40 for a quote..
    Thanks!

Well, I just searched my Lenovo T400 2.8ghz and it's still around $1200.. Where can ya find these secondhand laptops?

  • Ipod Battery Fully Discharged!!!

Hi i just recently brought a new 5G 30 gig ipod and a few days later the battery got fully discharged and now i have had the battery thing with the lightning bolt over it, and the site says its charging but i have had it like that for 2 days and it still wont charge or connect to my computer.
    Any Advice anyone?????
    thanks
ipod video 30 gig   Windows XP

i have the same problem, only mine doesn't have enough power to even turn on again, so i don't know about your case, but i'm pretty sure if it just says charging for that long it isn't even doing it. I left mine on for a night and a half then watched 20 minutes of video and now can't do anything with it. Someone figure this out and help us both.

  • Battery FULLY discharged overnight

Good Morning everyone! yesterday I fully charged my Ipad Mini Retina 16 GB IOS 7.1.2 , I used it for some minutes and I put in in standby mode for the night. This morning I woke up and the battery was FULLY discharged, I had to recconnect my ipad to the charger and now it seems that it is charging properly.
What is happened? do I have to get worried? because my Ipad is still under the international warranty, is it better if I check with an Apple Store? Somebody else got the same problem? how did you solve it?
thanks for your answers and feedbacks,
    Stefano

Push email has always used a lot of battery as it trys to keep an IP connection open to the email server. Using Chattermail (on a Palm Treo) the Push settings had several optimizations that could be used to lessen the update frequency, not try to push when the signal was weak, etc. Even with those settings enabled, I had to recharge that (extended) battery every 36 hours or so.

  • Problem: droid razr battery fully drained, white light when plugged to usb?

    Hello
I just got the phone new out of box at beginning of month, Battery was fully drainded today, when I plugged the usb to charge phone a bright white light shines on front screen.  Is the phone toast? or is this normal?
    Thank you for any help.

if you really think charging a phone, that's on, with a usb, is getting a full charge you're dreaming.
re-read your comment in the post i replied to:
"I went to the store thinking it was toast but the guy plugged in a wall charger and it immediately came on.
Well just this morning it died and I charge from my computer.  Again the white light of death and I could do nothing".

  • T-61 fully discharges when docked and power removed from dock

Is there any way to stop my T-61 from fully discharging when powered off & docked and power is removed from dock?
(I remove power from the dock to cut down on parasitic power drains in the office)
I usually remember to remove it from the dock but when I don't, it soemtimes goes into deep dioscharge and I have to remove the memory to get it restarted again.
    That is a huge pain.

I've just flashed the new BIOS (version 1.30) but the issue still persist. Is Lenovo aware of the issue with USB 3.0 SAS storage attached during system boot?
Since flashing BIOS 1.26 the behavior has changed, I can now see ThinkPad BIOS screen, then Windows 7 start loading and shortly after the Windows loading logo is displayed I get a black screen with "text mode" progress bar like the one displayed when you insert Windows 7 DVD - then I end up with a BIOS screen prompting me to select a boot device. After selecting the primary HDD, it all happens again so I am stuck in a loop (except now it asks if I want to do a system repair).
In 1.30 BIOS changelog it says:
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the computer might not be booted from bootloader program.
Unfortunately, this is probably referring to another issue which is not related to the connected SAS device.
Is there some way to submit this particular issue to Lenovo or is someone already working on resolving it?

  • Battery fully discharged and won't RECHARGE

I used my battery until it auto-shutoff. I was unable to recharge the laptop for 3 days due to a power outage at my house. Now the battery will not be recognized by the Macbook and will not charge. I have already tried to "reset" the system and have tried the solutions given by Apple.com. What should I do to get the battery to charge?

The Mac should shut down to protect the battery, and even after a prolonged discharge period should be recoverable.
Physically remove the battery from the Mac in order to "make and break" the connections, which will clean the terminals, as well as totally disconnecting it from it's host. Then replace and try recharging it once more.
    Good luck.

  • My 13 MacBook Pro acts like the battery has died while it is plugged in.

I will use my MacBook normally, it will be plugged in and fully charged. I will leave it on, close the lid and leave it plugged in for the night. The next morning it will still be fully charged (the charger indicator light is green, pressing the button on the left also shows full green dots). I will open the lid and instead of being ready to go right where it left off it has a white washed screen with a loading bar across the bottom. It goes through what normally happens as if the battery has died. It takes several minutes to fully start up before I can use it. Battery indicator is still at 100%. Strangely, this problem does not occur when I leave the computer on, UNPLUG it and close the lid. The next morning it will be ready to go without the white-washed loading screen. There is some, but minimal, battery depletion after that but only do to being unplugged. Otherwise it's fine.
Right now it's in diagnostics overnight at my local apple store. But the apple genius, and several other people I have talked to have not heard of this problem. Any insight? That computer is less than a year old, purchase december 2012. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact operating system. Thank you!

Youve got a wake from sleep issue when powered.
yes, youve got a late 2012 macbook Pro running 10.8.5
Theyll diagnose it and take care of it or replace the logic likely.

  • Battery freezes computer while charging and causes overheating.

I have an HP Pavilion dv2500 laptop. The battery for it overheats the computer, freezes the computer while attempting to charge at 100% (when I look at the battery controls it sometimes says it’s at 6%, 0% and then switches to 100%), and slows down the speed of the startup while plugged into the computer. When the battery is plugged in and freezes the computer the only way to shut it off is by unplugging the AC Adapter. The computer works fine with just the AC Adapter alone when the battery isn’t plugged in and doesn’t overheat or freeze. I’ve tried putting a fan underneath the computer and it doesn’t help with overheating for the battery.
I also tried contacting HP about the recall on batteries that they've had. They said that my PC didn't qualify when it's having problems specified on the page and the dv2500 series is listed on recall. Does anyone know what’s happening? I’m not even sure of the battery age myself; the computer is almost 2 years old and has been sent to the repair shop on several occasions last year with parts being replaced.
    This question was solved.

Test your AC adapter with multimeter make sure the output the same voltage and ampere as written on the adapter.

  • MBP battery fully discharging  with the lid shut down overnight

I have noticed that even with the lid shut down the battery drains out in a few hours on a full charge which was not the case a few days ago. Secondly my MBP will not go into a sleep mode when i try to do so thru the remote, the screen goes blank for a few second then back again.
I did the last battery update.
Energy saver is on default setting.
No third party application is installed to do scheduled tasking.

    Hi
I have notices the following in my MBP too, thanks for the info. So now I have bigger issue's
    A. battery drain out in sleep mode.
    B. MBP not restoring itself but restarting.
After the battery update the safe sleep mode seems to have been disabled, on a complete battery drain out the MBP restarts dose not restore itself to stage when the lid was shut down as its supposed to do so from the contents of RAM image in the file /private var vm sleep-image
I have noticed a lot of users suggesting to change the hibernation-mode to 0 from 3 and nvramrc to false from true thru terminal command. What are the consequence of the same with regards to the links to it and is it good to go about changing the default settings?
One pays a good amount for a 15"MBP not to forget the add on's for stability, durability and usability. I give the MBP 100 in 100 in durability & usability, but its lacking in stability too many issues with regards to hardware or software.

  • Ipad won't sync and won't charge unless fully discharged

My first-generation iPad will no longer charge at all unless it is fully discharged (charging by wall plug or usb to mbp). Even then, if I plug it into my mbp, it charges but is unrecognized by iTunes. it DOES sync over wifi, so that hasn't been a problem until now - when the OS needs updating which can only be done by wired sync.
    So here's my question:
how can i fix this? should i do a full restore of the iPad, plug it in and pray that it works? if it isn't recognized i fear i will have demoted this device - which is still useful at least as a toddler toy - to the bin of fun things for my son to hit with a hammer.
    thanks for any help!!!

re-install iTunes or update to the latest version. if still not work, backup & restore. hope your problem will be solved.

  • Ultrabay Battery -- Change discharge behavior?

I have a T400 with the optional ultrabay battery. The behavior seems to be that the extra battery is discharged entirely before moving on to the main battery. My understanding is that completely discharging a Li-Ion battery shortens the battery's lifespan. It seems to make more sense to either (1) drain the main battery first since it's larger and less likely to completely discharge before you find a power outlet or (2) alternate between the two batteries.
Is there anyway to adjust the battery settings to achieve either of these?

    Hi all,
I think, you missunderstand these 0% of battery charge. This does not mean, that the battery is discharged to 0 Volts. In that case, the battery would be destroyed immediately. These 0% are with respect to a minimum threshold voltage, such that the battery will not be damaged or its lifetime drastically reduced. When I have a look at my "fully" discharged ultrabay battery, I see that it has still more then 11V, which is no problem. The battery has 3 cells, each with 3.6 Volts. And a Li-Po Cell (Li-Ion is similar) can be discharged to about 2.8V without being damaged. 3 x 2.8V = 8.4V V for the whole battery. 11V is far avay from that, so there is enough reserve. If the voltage falls under a certain voltage, the computer turns off but not just because there is not enough power. Instead this is a safety mechanism for the battery which is implemented in hardware. So I think it's not necessary to wory about the battery.
Even though I think, that the user should be able to decide which battery discharges first. Especially if lenovo writes:
"Since the battery works in the Ultrabay you don't have to suspend the system to swap out the system battery to use the ThinkPad for an extended period of time."
That's what I wanted to do, change the main battery, while the system is on. But with this default behaviour of battery management, it's impossible because the U-battery is discharged first. Escept you carry the U-battery seperately with you the whole day and insert it shortly before the main battery is empty. But that's not very comfortable.
I foud one way to achieve that the main battery is discharged first. I have a T400 and if you apply the small switch on the right if as you wanted to remove the battery and the pad to pull jumps out, then the main battery is discharging while the ultrabay battery is still connected (appears in the Power manager) and supplies the PC with power if the main battery gets empty. But also that is not very elegant.
I hope I helped a little. If someone has a real solution to this problem, please tell us. I know that there is a solution, even if not supported by lenovo, what is a shame. (Something with ACPI events I guess but I don't have experience with that)

  • Discharging while Charging - PART 2

    Installed the 3.1.2 update.
3g turned on. sitting on a cradle plugged into a 110v outlet.
Phone is doing NOTHING but sitting there on the cradle. All other "commonsense" settings have been set. The phone is not doing ANYTHING. NADA. ZIP. ZERO.
Battery is discharging while on a charge. In 15 minutes, battery dropped 25%.
turn 3g off, it starts charging again.
Since the 3.1 update, this has been happening.
The battery in this thing is a joke, and the software from the update is even funnier.
