Battery gets very hot during use and doesn't last long, fan runs at high speed, computer won't shut down

Macbook Air isn't a year old and I don't leave it plugged in ever. The battery might last 2 hours and gets very hot. In addition the fan runs at a very high speed. The computer won't shut down in a normal way. I have to hold the power button down to shut it off. Can someone suggest something please.
Thanks.

  • Iphone getting very hot during use

Over the last few weeks my phone has started getting quite hot at the back if I use it for more than 20 minutes or if I try using it whilst charging.
    Should I be worried?
    Thanks

That depends on how easily you get worried. It most likely means there's an issue with your battery but if it's really worrying you, take it by an Apple Store and have them take a look at it.

does 2012 mac mini get very hot when using logic pro

Are you saying that your machine does or is it an enquiry before buying ? I use a 2011 server model - well, it does get hot over a period of time, but I've very rarely heard the fan kick in, its a surprise when it does. As far as I know the casing has been specifically designed to conduct heat, rather than having any fancy grilles and so on, being so small in size. I haven't found it to be cause for concern, if that's any help.

  • Early 2008 MacBookPro keyboard backlight off and fans run at high speed

    Hi!
    I wrote from Turkey.
My Early 2008 MacBookPro 2.40 ghz 4 gb Ram OSX Mavericks machine's keyboard backlight off and fans run at high speed; it seems an exact smc resetting problem.
So i tried the 2 ways of SMC restting procedure; both battery you can move and not, but nothings changed on the situation..
On the way for removable battery; nothing changed but on the way for umremovable battery way; keyboard backlight flashes and gone, but fans are at high speed not changed. So nothing changed.
What can i do right now? i'll wait for your advices
    Thanks

Your Mac may need a new PRAM battery.  Once it is over 4 years old, that often is needed.

  • Often I will leave my office and return to find the fan running at max speed and the computer is unresponsive

I also have a MacPro3,1 (2009) I believe and just started experiencing similar issues as described here.
I have scheduled sleep and start cycles and often I will leave my office and return to find the fan running at max speed and the computer is unresponsive or I find the computer booted in to disk utility mode.
I also often loose ethernet connectivity and have to try renewing DHCP lease several times before it will finally work.
Has anyone found solutions for this. I have looked at the console errors right before shutdown and don't really see anything fishy. Here are the last couple of lines before it looks like it shutdown.

Mac Pro early 2009 is Mac Pro4,1, anyway, I think you need to boot into recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, then select startup volume and run repair disk.
Xcode is the latest one, by the way?

  • My I touch gets very hot when charging, and it won't turn on.  I've tried all the resets/fixes and it does not respond.  Any Ideas?

I have tried charging my itouch on the computer, in a docking station, and it gets very hot.  It won't turn on, even after trying all the resets I've read on this site.  Any ideas what the problem is?  Is it fixable?

Hey Halefarm, What happens if you connect directly with the charging source with your cable, no docking station? Since resetting did not help, try connecting directly with the cable to your power source and your iPod. Next  try a different cable, there could be a short in the one you are currently using. If still will not charge correctly, I'm leaning in the direction of a failing battery. Set up an appointment to have your iPod evaluated by Apple. Have your iPod evaluated for possible battery issues. Take the cable and dock and have them tested as well. If it is a failing battery, you choices are; replace the battery, either through Apple or third party shop. Replace it yourself, if you can. Or,  you look into getting a new iPod. I don't have the cost of a new battery for an iPod 3, but I'm sure it's under $100. Check with Apple for exact pricing. Good luck, Cheers.

  • Every 8 days when in sleep mode my fan runs up to high speed.  Have to shut down to stop it.  Tried SMC reset no use.  Even powered down for a day when speed up was due, 8 days later ran up to high speed when asleep.  How do I fix this

I was previous running Lion but upgraded a week ago the Mavericks but the fault it still there.    Nearly always happens in middle of the night as when I get up in the morning fan is running at high speed.

Try the troubleshooting steps using the Test Account. The theory is if the Test Account works OK then you know you have an issue with your standard user account. If the problem persists with the Test Account then you know it's a global issue and can begin eliminating items. I would start by eliminating non essential peripherals such as printers, time machine etc. You may find you have a problem with one of those or some app or some setting.

  • HP G42 Fan Running in High Speed and Noisy

I had a HP G42 i5 notebook. Recently I send my notebook for repair due to the graphic card problem. I encountered that the fan speed is running in high speed mode after I the repair. I asked the incharge and he told me that they had did the cleaning on the notebook, so the fan will run in high speed and making noise. I did told that person, it was silence before repair and the fan will only run in high speed mode when the notebook's got heat up. But now it's got into the high speed mode even during startup time.
So I would like to get some advice or comment on this. Is it normal that the notebook's fan speed is running in high speed and noisy since startup? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Richard-G,
I'm sorry for the delay in my reply, as I have been out of the office since last Thur.  The instructions would have been the same for your notebook, but not the same BIOS.
This document will guide you through updating your BIOS if you wish.  Since the noise is reduced once Windows begins, I would not worry too much about this.
    Good luck!

  • Will not boot up and fans run at high speed

will not boot up and fans run at high speed

after much head scratching I ran the hardware test disk from cd. The test showed a memory issue I eliminated the faulty one systematically. So it wasn't a hard drive or software problem in the end it was faulty memory. What was misleading was the computer telling me there was a fault on the hard drive. The machine works fine now. Thanks to people's comments I learned a bit more about the G5 that helped eliminate probable causes

  • I have iPad model number MC706B/A and battery gets very hot quickly and also discharges from 100% to 0 in under an hour with onyl one app going.  Brightness res turned right down also to stop over use on battery.

    Hi All,
I am getting increasingly frustrated at the battery grossly overheating ( as in cannot hold it on legs as gets too hot) also that I have to keep it on constant charge a other wise it discharges from 100% to zero in well under and hour.  Is this a battery or design fault of this particular model.  Its not even a year old but I also know whilst they brought it out in March 2012 they discontinued in October 2012...
Can anyone assist as Apple lcearly want nothing to do with a now defunct model and I am thinking that perhaps with the backing of the Trading Standards Authority and the Office of Fair Trading, Apple might just want to sit up and listen as up until now they have not.  They simply suggest that I should trade up!!!

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

It would not be uncommon for the 4S to get a LITTLE WARM while getting used with the screen on etc, but not to the point where it gets so hot that you cannot keep your finger on it.
If you can easily replicate the problem and you got it from an Apple Store then I would make an appointment to have it looked at/replaced.
If you got the 4S from elsewhere then I would get in contact with them and arrange for it to be looked at/replaced.

  • IPod touch gets very hot when using the Internet/Video

Hello. I have a question about my iPod touch (8 GB, 1.1.4, January Software Upgrade). When I go to Safari and browse the web, or when I'm watching a long video (YouTube and memory) the iPod gets really hot, particulary on the top, near the Sleep-Wake button. Is this normal or should I worry?

Is it hot to the touch? or is it warm? My iPod only gets warm, but not hot, down near the home button after/during a sync or watching videos/searching the web.

  • I want to know why my phone gets really hot in use and not in use.

I am using a iPhone 3GS 16GB, been using it for over a year now. Recently, it has been heating up regularly. I understand if it on charge. But everytime I use my phone to play games or reply text messages for no longer then 15mins, it gets heated up so much. Occasioanally, it heats up even when its not in use and when I've forced shut down my apps. Why is that so ?

What iOS version are you running? There have been cases where people have been complaining of their iPhone 3G/3GS overheating. If you have a white version of the 3GS, watch out because this can cause discoloration.
