Battery glitch?

I have a 13" Macbook Pro 10.6.2---it's relatively new I bought it in October.
Anyways I was in the middle of writing a huge paper last night, saw the power icon say 0% on the battery. I freaked and plugged it in. Battery shouldn't have been anywhere near 0% though.
The battery icon said battery needs service or something to that extent. I restarted because I thought this was a stupid glitch. But then after restart it said no batteries available. Unplugging the battery kills the macbook.
I did a SMC reset and it didn't seem to do anything. Then just left it plugged in and walked over to my iMac to do some google searches on it, and voila my battery says 74% and charging. What on earth just happened???? I'm frightened it may happen again and lose valuable files. I just transfered some to a flash drive, but this is ridiculous for a less than 6 month old laptop.
Any clue what happened? Do I need to take it in? I live 2 hours from the closest Apple store, so I'm kind of frustrated. This along with my Airport problems when I first got it are driving me crazy. I love Apple, I love my iMac, but this Macbook Pro is so annoying. I depend on it for notes in classes and assignments etc.

Computer recently died, had to erase and sync 4S 5.0.1 which jumbled app icons everywhere on springboard(as opposed to organized in folders like I had it). This was expexted and happeneds even back in ios3.I charged it overnight and the next day I spend 10 min putting the icons back in folders and went from 100% to 10% battery. This needs to be fixed.

  • Backing up Zen MicroPhoto (8

In reviewing all material that came with my new MicroPhoto (ZMP8GB) as well as reviewing this forum, I haven't found anything dealing with how to do a total backup of the Zen. I'd like to make a copy of the complete image of all my music and playlists on the Zen so that if anything ever happens to it, I can just reload the copy from my PC. Is it possible to do this? I haven't succeeded when trying to use the audio sync function in Creative MediaSource Organizer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

the screen? really? i was thinking some sort of power/battery glitch, since i get no backlight, no lights on the keyboard, no light on the on/off switch when it's not hooked up to the computer via usb. also coz that "your battery level is too low" error message.
actually, it's probably BOTH a power issue and screen issue, now that i think about it. *sigh* guess i'll contact the seller and see what he'll do. yeah, normally i have luck on ebay. my little zenv plus was certainly a good buy. oh well.
thank you for your prompt response.

  • Installing Zen Microphoto 8 GB on Vi

Windows Vista (32bit) does not install my Zen Microphoto 8 GB.
Upon connecting the device via USB, it tries to install it as an MTP-device. The installation fails. ('The device does not start' Code 0.)
According to the Driver Availability Chart support should be native.
I have already upgraded the firmware to .3.0e (on another PC).
I tried to connect it via USB connections on the front and at back.
    I used different cables.
    All to no avail.
    Any suggestions

  • Hard drive glitches after battery replacement... normal?

Hello, I have a 4Gen 20gig ipod with click wheel and I just replaced the battery myself last night.
I then plugged it into my computer to sync and it was recognized by windows, but not by iTunes, the hard drive would whir, then click and then try again, then stop. I figured it was just that the battery wasn't charged enough yet, so I let it charge overnight.
In the morning it synced fine. I was then playing it in the car, and some songs would appear, then the hard drive would whir, click a couple of times, then skip on to the next one. After a couple songs it started playing them normal. After skipping a few and the hard drive spun to load more music into the temporary memory, it would whir, click and then skip the song, then whir click and skip that one too... and it kept doing it. Then I reset it, and it kept showing the apple symbol, then the Exclamation and folder icon, then tried restarting again. After trying to reset itself 4 or 5 times, it finally succeeded.
I read a few threads on here, gave the ipod a gentle nudge on the right hand corner a few times, and now its playing and I haven't had any symptoms yet for about an hour.
Is this normal for a hard drive on an iPod to glitch after a battery replacement? I had no such problems when I had the other battery in it, so it's hard to believe that the hard drive is going bad exactly at the same time I changed batteries. It is the right battery for the right iPod, anyone else experience this or have any words of wisdom or comfort?

Does the Apple store charge just to look at something?
Even if the noise was a dirty hard drive you can't clean the innards of one. You cannot even open one. Well you can, once.

  • How can you tell if your battery is broke or if its a glitch. My ipod 5th generation was plugged in but still wont turn on.its been known to glitch, thanks

It wont charge for anything, all that comes up is the dead battery sign, but when i can get it to turn on it shows in the corner its fully charged. I dont know what to do about it. My ipod 5 generation has glitched before in the past but i dont know if this is a ghitch or its legitamently broke, thankas for the replies it really helps

This is the itunes forum.  Your question seems to have nothing to do with itunes.
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.  Try those.

  • Battery indicator glitch

I just wanted to let everybody know about this glitch I've just noticed about the battery indicator that seemed to indicate full charge after more than a day standby and more than 2 hours of use. I turned the phone off and on and the indicator shows the real charge level now (hopefully).
I have an iPhone 3G with firmware 3.0.

I have experienced this problem too. Turning the phone off and then on again provides a temporary fix. Anyone know of a permanent one?

  • S10 lcd screen randomly flickers/glitches + battery issue

Hello Everyone, I have a Lenovo s10 4231 laptop which is my friends. I recently had to replace the LCD on it due to the old one being cracked. I replaced it with a new unit.
However, now that I've done that, Ive noticed that SOMETIMES I will see some pixelation in random parts of the screen, and the entire lcd will sometimes flicker or flash something for a split second. Im not sure what causes it, I tried to test to see if high processor usage would do it, but that wasnt the case.
Im completely baffled as to what's causing this, I dont want to blame it on the new lcd i put in, since the screen picture and clarity are PERFECT.
I'll just see random pixelation/glitches, and other times the whole screen will flash/glitch for a fraction of a second. and it doesnt do it all the time, its very random!
My other problem is that the battery will not charge to 100% when the a/c is plugged in, it stays around 96/97% and doesnt go any higher. is this normal?
I appreciate any input on these issues, I dont want to have to order another LCD =/

The behaviour of your LCD screen is certainly abnormal. Maybe there is some loose contact or it is not sitting properly. As for the battery, it seems to be a normal response if it is left in the netbook for sometime. If you unplug the battery for a while and put it in again, it will charge to 100% the next time. Don't know why it is like that. Make sure it is unplugged when everything is off.

  • I have a biggest glitch of the new iOS 7 i don't know what is it but yesterday i've noticed my iphone 5 2% of battery i started to charge it and it stucks on 2% and then is started to crash my iOS again some color stripes and then crash

And then it works somehow by electricity BUT it stucks on apple logo (white screen with the black apple logo in the middle) and after 5 seconds it dissapears and then it poppin up again and again disappears and this keep to going like ths unti i do something like turn iphone down and hold the cable and it shows battery with the red color in the beggining (it says in EVERY apple davice that you need to charge your battery to continue to work with your device but HOW????I left it on charge ALL night while i was sleeping how it couldn't be charged at least for 8%??) and also my iphone is doesn't turning on without cable, when i taking off the cable it doesn't work again i hold top button and it doesn't work, holding home button and power top button doesn't work too, trying to plug it to my PC it still not working i see only black screen and no more than this it works only with the simple elctricity and not by PC but always i see my lock screen it shows 100% i taking off the cable and it's like you taking off PC cable while you're working on it and it shutting down immediately so it looks the same on my iphone like USB is a power cable of my iphone please help me.
P.S. Updated to iOS 7 first time via iPhone 5 itself but i needed to restore and update it via iTunes because of push notificaton issue.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If nothiing above helped, restore the iPhone to factory settings >  Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • All sorts of glitches with VW Palm Pixi Plus

    Hello,
I am curious if there is something inherently wrong with my phone, or if these are glitches within WebOS itself.
I have had all sorts of glitches happen over the past month or so and some are quite an issue, especially when I really need the phone.
Some of the glitches I can remember are as follow:
    1. Music player cause the phone to freeze when I clicked on a song. Had to reset
    2. I attempted to open google maps many times last night, when it would say I don't have an internet connection, even though the 3G logo was in the upper right corner. I had to do a reset. This was a major issue since I really needed directions at the time.
    3. All the settings and SSID name info and passphrase in the Mobile Hotspot app disappeared last night and I had to reinput it all.
    4. Sometimes I notice the phone is automatically restarting. This happened manny times when I first received the phone, but VW gave me a new battery, which fixed it. This feels more like a software issue now because it does it when it is just sitting on my desk.
    5. One day, I could make phone calls but I could not hear anything coming out of the speaker and later, the recipient informed me they could not hear me, even though the call connected. I tried, at the time to do a restart, which did not fix the issue. I then did a **bleep** down and removed the battery, which did not work. I did a battery swap (put the battery back in) a second time and finally the phone began working again.
    6. This has happened two times now, which is actually pretty creepy. One day the phone received a called and I heard this weird mid-pitch woo sound come out of the speaker. I did not know what was making the noise when I realized what it was, my phone was trying to ring. I picked up the call and was able to talk. This also happened yesterday in one of my classes where the phone was on vibrate (the vibrate switch was on), and I was connected to the Mobile Hotspot app. Out of nowhere, I began receiving a phone call and this same eery noise came out of it. I was under the impression when using the mobile hotspot, I would not be able to receive calls. The noise was piercing and odd, and I had to hit ignore, where the caller left a voicemail. Now, when in a situation where I cannot have my phone ring, this concerns me because the phone has a mind of its own. Additionally, I do not want to turn my phone off all the time to avoid ringtones, because it takes WebOS almost 3-4 minutes to boot up on the pixi, probably because it has a slow processor.
    7. There has been numerous issues with using my bluetooth headphones (A2DP). Sometimes when I connect the headphones and turn on the bluetooth on the phone, they connect fine, but I cannot hear any sound from the headphones nor the speaker on the phone. Sometimes after I have been on a call using the headphones as a bluetooth headset, when I go back to the music, I cannot play music at all on the headphones.
Overall, I feel these glitches are worth it because I think WebOS is far superiour to Android, and I think it is a great product, but these issues are starting to become an inconviense and I am not sure how to proceed. I know the phone may be under warranty, so I may need to call Palm, but I figured I would reach out here first and get a concensus of the issues to see if it is something I can resolve on my side first.
I am running the latest OS, which I think is 1.4.5, which I updated a few weeks ago. Some of the issues above happened before the update and some after.
Thank you for all your help,
    Tim
Post relates to: Pixi Plus p121vzw (Verizon)

    I appreciate the help.
Another issue I forgot to mention was with the email client. With my gmail account, it only shows 5-10 emails but I can keep scrolling like there is more emails. Additionally, I can actually click on the empty spaces and emails will show up. It is like the title and email info are not being shown in the preview (inbox) window. The irony is I also have a school account, which is hosted by gmail with a different domain, but all the emails show up fine. I even deleted the gmail account and re-imported it and the contacts, and the problem persists.
Regardless though, last night a new issue began. My vibrate ringer switch is malfunctioning. What is happening is when I turn on the ringer (put the switch in the off position), the switch does not fully close, where the ringer turns on for a second and then the vibrate goes back on. Even though the switch is in the up position, the switch is not closing all the way to close the circuit.
I took the case off and you can clearly see it is not catching in the lock position, or the spring is not pushing it up far enough to hold it in.
I admit, webOS is far superior than Android (I used a Droid for 6 months) but the build quality and glitches are quite a concern. I really hope they come out with some new hardware soon, because I am not sure how long I can go before I give up this pixi. I would not mind the pre, but I have read more horror stories regarding hardware. With HP now owning Palm, I am sure the hardware quality will increase and the palm universe will expand, minimizing software glitches because more users means more revenue, and more revenue means more staff programmers working on issues.
I can sort of get by webOS's shortcoming, but the hardware has to be there for me. This sucks because I am left with little options at this point (I do not want to go back to Android and who knows if the iPhone will ever come to VW, also, I am not in the mood to take on another platform as windows is in the midst of working on).
    Thank you again!

  • IPhone 5s iOS 8.1.2 turning off at random battery percents?

For Christmas i was lucky enough to receive and iPhone 5s, upgrading from my 2 year old iPhone 4s which had a terrible battery life and numerous other glitches. All excited on Christmas day i restored my brand new iPhone 5s from the back up of my old iPhone 4s, then on that very day, my phone died at 55%, tried turning it back on and it indicated that i needed to plug it into a charger. i waited a minute, tried turning it back on, and it worked, showing that it had 53% left? so i continued to use my new phone, i was playing music out load and using Facebook messenger, then again it suddenly died, this time at 48%, tried the same method mentioned previously with the exact same result.
Searching the internet for possible solutions, i tried a "DFU Restore". DFU stands for device firmware update. This did not provide any fix to the battery issue, the following day it suddenly shut down at 60%. I again tried a "DFU Restore" only this time i did not restore it from a backup, the first DFU "Restore" i restored it from the backup of the phone, the second time i didn't wondering if the issue was related to the backup. The second time worked, at least for a few days, then again it suddenly shut down with plenty of percent left.
    In Summary:
My Brand new iPhone 5s with the latest iOS is randomly shutting down with plenty of percent left and then requires either charging to turn back on OR wait a minute or so and it will be able to be turned back on, only for the same thing to happen a minute later.
I do not think my phone is incorrectly reading the battery level as it seems to be used at a normal rate.
    I have Tried:
    Restore
    "DFU Restore"
Draining battery to 0% and charging to 100%
    Verbally abusing my iPhone
All with no fix to my problem
I am asking for advice, what else should i do? is their a fix that i don't know of? should i replace the battery? i don't know what else to do....

You should get your phone checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store next to your place.
You can also contact Apple Support and talk to them. They can check the battery online, visit this page to do that:
iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support
Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.

  • BATTERY LIFE IS HORRIBLE

I was wondering if I was the only one with this issue. I mean I charged the phone last night. Browsed through the internet like 6 sites less than 30 minutes on all of them on my WIFI not even edge. did 2 calls totalling 20 minutes through out the day and showed it the phone to 4 friends about each feature my battery died in a matter of 9 hrs. is this normal. I don't think I will be happy with this. Unless everyone is on the same page. What happened to the talk time of 8 hrs and 6 hrs of internet usage?!?

I just got done reading another post about this, and I think the guy in that post figured it out. I would really appreciate if someone who knows what to do would post after I post my issue and what a few others have said.
Ok so I am on Iphone #2 my first had a peace of dirt under the screen....and I hadn't even taken the factory plastic off the screen yet.
First iphone had adverage battery life. I switched from a blackjack with a 3day charge and thats with watching videos listening to music and using the 3g internet(why did I swtitch ...I'm an apple fan boy). Iphone has about a 2 and half day charge doing the same but the system is glitched and there is a trick to it(I have not figured this crap out). My iphone at home on my personal wireless service can last forever it seems. I'm watching movies listening to music all that crap. I had to go to a conferance at a hotel recently and my ipod has gone from adverage performance to to needing a charge after almost half a day. I loose power while the phone is suppose to be in standby and I know this because if you go to usage the numbers are reading as if it's in constant use. I know this is different because before the numbers would reflect the phone being in standby.
example: usage 6 hours 13 minutes, standby 6 hours and 13 minutes....before it would read usage 30 minutes standby 7 hours.
Someone has posted that software can continue running while in standby mode and my thing is how do you stop it? and has anyone heard of a fix for this glitch. That has to be the key to the battery problem because when I get home I am back to normal performance.

  • IPhone Battery Drain, 7.1.2, I Have A FIX!

Hello everyone!  My name is Gabriel Chen and my iPhone has been having trouble with battery draining, and overheating.  I'm here to tell you how to fix it.  This is completely different from the rest of the posts because I've discovered something interesting and new.
Background (I'm a little long-winded, sorry. Just skip down to "What-to-Do" if you are pretty sure you've had the same problems as me):
I got my iPhone 5s when it first came out.  It's battery life was amazing, then the fire nation attacked.  Jokes aside, the battery became worthless about a month ago after I updated to 7.1.2.  I thought the issue was 7.1.2, but now that I fixed it, I don't think it is.  I took my phone into the apple store about a week ago because I was off to college and needed to fix this problem before I left.  They ran diagnostics and found kbd and backboard errors.  They immediately replaced it. I was happy because I had a brand new phone, but the battery issues came back, and this time even worse.  My phone was burning up, even hotter and it even froze sometimes.  I then took it to a store near my college–which was difficult because I have no car here–where they did a reset because that's what they always do.  I sat there and played with the phone to make sure the problem wasn't there.  Turns out it was still there.  I love apple genius bar employees, but not all of them are very knowledgeable about the products and how they work.  I don't blame them because: updates can always cause new problems, it's probably above their pay-grade to memorize what every single error code means, and they don't necessarily have knowledge that lets them troubleshoot any problems that involve hidden processes that their apple-issued easy-button diagnostic test doesn't tell them about.
I then approached another employee who helped me immensely.  He knew something was wrong, which was awesome because most employees do tend to blow you off, so he decided he'd try to help me fix it.  He had a lot more knowledge about the phone.  This time he found kbd errors again so he replaced it.  After that process, he disappeared into the back of the employee's only part of the store.  I tried playing around with the phone, and it was clear that the problem persisted.  I then went and got help again.  This time, the new person who was helping me went to the back, and I waited around for about an hour and a half not knowing what was going on.  The whole time, I was wondering where the first guy who helped me disappeared to.  For the sake of convenience, the first person who helped me in this paragraph will be Ian, and the second will be Will.  Will eventually came back out, this time bringing Ian along with him.  Turns out Ian had been doing research for me in the back for the last 1.5 hours and found that the problem probably had to do with iCloud.  My phone was draining and overheating due to its attempt to download some sort of data with no success.  So each time it failed, it would retry over and over again.  This explains the overheating and battery drainage.  We deleted some stuff from iCloud and it got a lot better.
The next day though, the problem came back.  I was so frustrated so I've been trouble shooting for the past 5 hours.  Eventually, after 4 hours, I tried using different iTunes accounts.  There was no battery drain when I used these.  When I used my original account, there were still problems.  So I tried turning off iCloud on my account.  Still, I had no luck with it.  I eventually tried something else which finally fixed it! My phone now no longer has problems with battery drain and overheating.
    What-to-Do
    1. Go to Settings —> iCloud —> Delete Account
Don’t worry, as long as you click “keep the stuff” or whatever it says, you won’t lose stuff
    2. See if your batter still drains by leaving it on and watching the battery.  Touch it and see if it’s heating up.  If your battery is draining 1% every 2 minutes, it definitely is still having problems.  It’s your own choice, but even if it does drain, I would follow the next step anyways.  If it doesn’t drain, the issue definitely had to do with iCloud.  Now, log in once again.
    3. Make sure all of the iCloud data that you care about is stored some where other than iCloud.  For example, make sure your Pages files are on your computer.
    4. Go to Settings —> iCloud —> Storage & Backup —> Manage Storage.  Then delete the stuff under Documents and Data.  I REPEAT, DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT FIRST MAKING SURE THE DATA IS ON YOUR COMPUTER IN SOME SHAPE OR FORM
Why?  What is probably happening is that there is probably data that is trying to get onto your phone.  This data is failing to do so which is causing an infinite loop of effort and failure which drains your battery and makes your phone work really hard.  Apple should code a fail-safe into this to stop the loop, but they haven’t yet.
    5. You’re done with this part!  For some of you, like me, your phone will stop draining.  If so, you’re done!  For some of you, it will start draining again!  Here’s the part that took me 5 hours to figure out, mostly because I was just frustrated and venting.
    6. If you’re still draining, go to Settings —> iTunes and App Store, and turn off SHOW ALL Music and Videos.  What this feature does is it will display the purchased items that have not been downloaded, but are on your iTunes account, specifically Music and Videos, within the the corresponding apps.  I understand that you probably like this feature and that you’re probably unhappy that I’m telling you to turn it off.  This is a glitch or bug that Apple will probably come to fix if it comes to their attention eventually, so don’t worry.  When they do fix it, you can turn these back on.
Why? For some reason, the battery drain was being caused either: by the phone failing to fetch data from your iTunes account, pertaining to purchased items such as songs and videos; or by the phone repeatedly fetching the data, instead of just holding it in place.
So, this fixed my phone completely.  Please rate me up if that’s even possible.  If you’re an Apple dude, I’d love to receive rewards if this was actually useful to you guys (haha, sorry I’m just a little proud of my accomplishment.)  If it doesn’t work, try to trouble shoot and figure it out.  If you would like clarification, feel free to comment or whatever it’s called. If this doesn't fix it, maybe try getting it replaced in an apple store because that might be the issue.

Thought it had worked but soon found out it had not.
after further days of trying finally, solved it for me Yesterday.
turned off notifications when locked, and bingo, wow.
i have not turned off iCloud but location services are also off.
best thing to do I found was keep checking your usage, settings, general, usage, and flip down to bottom, if the standby and usage are similar there is a problem, if there is a big difference then all is ok. Just keep turning things off and on until the difference is very apparent.
something on my phone was keeping the phone alive even when turned off, and I think this was the phone repeatedly trying to update continually.
to me this is definitely down to the iOS, my wife has exactly same phone and iOS but hers doesn't have any problem and the battery lasts for days.
the guy at the Genius Bar told me to restore the phone via iTunes, not iCloud. This is because iCloud remembers the exact info from your phone and simply reinstates it when you restore, and this includes the iOS too.
when I get home from holidays that's what I'll do, or wait for iOS 8 in few weeks. But I'm so pleased I finally made it work, I was beginning to think ditch the phone and buy Samsung.
anyway anyone out there please try my final solution and let me know if it works for you?

  • [SOLVED]Custom DSDT not loading - OEM battery doesn't work - Sony Vaio

EDITING ORIGINAL POST TO POST SOLUTION so I don't do a massive bump
Installed windows and ran the BIOS flasher that came with the battery. Didn't work until I changed a line in the plaintext configuration file (config.ini or something) it comes with. Changed "Capacity: 20" to "Capacity: -10". This changed the battery charge requirement from 20% to negative ten percent (any negative number will do), allowing the program to run and flash the BIOS. Didn't realize I could do that, but it fixed  the problem 100%.
    #### BEGIN ORIGINAL POST: ################################
    Hey guys,
I'm a bit of a linux noob, but I've spent many hours this week trying to fix this issue on my own and have learned a lot about making custom kernels, hardware stuff, ACPI, and ABS. However, nothing I've done has worked and I've hit a wall. For reference, I'm on a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ4000 with linux-3.0 base kernel, gnome3/gdm. The battery is made in china and doesn't list a manufacturer, just model number BPS8, 52000mAh.
    [Backstory]
So I recently got an OEM battery to replace the broken original, which hasn't worked since before I installed arch (though it worked with an Arch install I did a couple years ago). When I first plugged it in, the gnome battery symbol popped up listing the battery at 0% with an exclamation icon. I unplugged from AC power and the laptop still ran, but the battery monitor just said it was at 0% and 'Estimating' remaining time. I figured this was a glitch with gnome or just because it was this battery's first cycle so I let it run down until it hard-crashed. Then I plugged back into AC and tried to turn on the computer, but it wouldn't do anything until I removed the battery.
Looking into the problem I discovered this was due to the ACPI firmware table DSDT being compiled for Windows, which has, shall we say, fewer restrictions on sanity than the Intel ASL compiler used for UNIX systems. Sure enough I extracted /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/DSDT to find that its section about the battery contained the entry 'Zero' for Battery Technology, which translates to "non-rechargeable", rather than 'One', which makes it chargeable. acpitool confirmed this; my system thought the battery was non-rechargeable and was constantly discharging it. Needless to say I've only been putting it in temporarily to test solutions since.
    [/backstory]
[tl;dr] DSDT firmware contains malformed battery description, now I can't get my system to run with a custom DSDT. [/tl;dr]
    Attempted solutions:
    [1]
Extract, modify, recompile DSDT and include it with the kernel compilation .config options
    CONIFG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT=y
    CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_FILE="/usr/src/custom_dsdt.hex
    CONIFG_STANDALONE=n
as suggested here, a page linked to by the arch wiki page on DSDT.
I followed the instructions but no matter what this has generated errors during the kernel compilation, sometimes due to every line containing unexpected \231 (or other numbers) characters, sometimes finding some error in the DSDT file and then claiming that the driver it was compiling (ol.c somewhere in the drivers/acpi section I believe) had references to undefined functions all over the place. I CANNOT compile with a custom DSDT specified.
    [2]
Place recompiled DSDT in /lib/initcpio/custom.dsdt and add 'dsdt' to the HOOKS in mkinitcpio (and rebuild the initramfs-linux-*.img, of course). Another version of this included recompiling the kernel with CONFIG_STANDALONE disabled.
In neither of these situations has the running DSDT ever been anything but the BIOS-supplied one and not once has the battery shown any different behavior.
acpitool and $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info have consistently claimed the information specified in the BIOS-supplied DSDT; the battery is non-rechargeable and is discharging at an unknown rate. Sometimes acpi will even report that the battery has zero capacity.
The arch wiki does say mkinitcpio doesn't support the dsdt hook as of 2.6.30, but [1] didn't work either and mkinitcpio -H dsdt still told me to try this so I did.
    [3]
    The final solution I have tried has been to do [2] but to recompile the kernel with the legacy support for battery and ac adapter stuff disabled. I tried this because it was suggested in the kernel.log;
Sep  13 11:51:03 localhost kernel: [   11.740059] ACPI: Deprecated procfs I/F for AC is loaded, please retry with CONFIG_ACPI_PROCFS_POWER cleared
    Sep  13 11:51:03 localhost kernel: [   11.753434] ACPI: AC Adapter [ADP1] (on-line)
    The corresponding line now reads
    ACPI: AC Adapter [ADP1] (on-line)
(The same goes for the battery BAT0)
but all this does is remove the battery/ and adp1/ folders from /proc/acpi/ and break acpitool functionality. The log still doesn't mention the dsdt hook, either.
    [4]
The old way to do this was to use the acpi-dsdt-initrd-patch-* patch, but that hasn't been updated for modern kernels, presumably because of the new "functionality" from mkiniticpio. The current kernel .config doesn't include any options for ACPI initrd/initramfs support or reading a DSDT from initramfs, which is the functionality provided by this patch.
This covers all the methods I've been able to find on the internet and I'm at a loss for what to do. Am I doing something wrong in [1]? Under what conditions will the compiler fail/succeed with a CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_FILE?
When I recompile I fix the 'Zero' definition and a couple compiler errors and warnings. The errors come from section length definitions, which read as 0x00000000 rather than the appropriate max-min value so I fix those, and the warnings come from _T_* methods belonging to the compiler, so I refactor the code to remove the initial underscores. The last warning comes from an isolated And statement that's within brackets (compiler complains it doesn't do anything), but if I remove that the compiler fails hard.
Thanks to anyone who's read this far.  Please let me know if you have any ideas how to get my system to use a customized DSDT.

Thanks for the offer, Radioactive man However, I'm actually compiling a customized kernel with the linux-ck and -sony patches, so your packages won't help. (The custom kernel works fine and I've tested this battery behavior on the the regular, -ck, and -sony kernels as well)
Anyway, so I tried another compile with
CONFIG_PREVENT_FIRMWARE_BUILD=n in addition to the options listed in [1] and that time it compiled.
Unfortunately it still didn't load the DSDT!
    I did catch a quick little error message that turned up in kernel.log though;
/var/log/kernel.log:Sep 15 11:50:24 localhost kernel: [    0.925780] acerhdf: unknown (unsupported) BIOS version Sony Corporation/VGN-FZ4000E/R2110J7, please report, aborting!
acerhdf is a fan controller module for the Aspire One, and perhaps I left that in the kernel config and it's preventing the custom DSDT from loading, even though the acerhdf module never gets loaded itself, nor is it in my rc.conf or anything else... If that was the cause of all this, I'm gonna be angry...
Anyway, this message does not appear with my latest kernel build because I took off the custom DSDT option, hoping to be able to use ACPI_CUSTOM_METHOD=y, which supposedly allows one to inject a custom AML method into a debug fs. It wouldn't have worked anyway, as it doesn't let you modify Device sections, but even with a dummy method insertion it didn't give my root modification privileges as it was supposed to...
Will try recompiling AGAIN with this CONFIG_ACERHDF=n (it's simply 'not set' in my current .config), while also enabling the custom kernel etc. If this doesn't work I have no idea what I'll do.
Anyway, thanks for your help and time:
