Battery goes dead over night

I am having more and more problems with my itouch recently.
The latest problem is that the battery is going dead over night. It hasnt done this in the past. I normally listen to podcasts until almost asleep and then take off the ear buds, stop the podcast and put the itouch down. in the past i would pick it up in the morning with no appreciable battery depletion.
For the past few mornings, the battery is in the red zone.....as if it had been running all night.
anyone have any ideas on what is going on? are there toggles I can turn off so it is not performing needless functions at night?
I always download the latest upgrades for the itouch and itunes.
This is a 2G unit.
thanks.

What app could be draining the machine? I download audio podcasts from iTunes and listen to them during the day and while laying in bed prior to sleep. When I am almost to sleep, I remove the ear buds from the machine and set it on the dresser. Prior to this draining incident, there was no overnight obvious battery depletion.
The machine does seek out and downlowd my email during my sleep cycle but has never depleted the battery in the past until recently.
What's going on with thing? Are the interns writing the software now?
Some of my podcasts start midway. Some have the indicator bar slide all the way over to the completion position and then return to the start position.
I am afraid this thing is going to crap out along with iTunes one day. Is there a way I can export my calendar and contacts to a file outside of the Apple sphere just to be safe?
Thanks.

  • What happens if the Raid card battery goes dead?

I just got my MacPro, Raid card, and 3 SAS drive. I set it up as Raid 0. The battery in the Raid card is good for 72 hrs. And that is to save the raid cache. So what happens if I leave the MacPro unplugged for longer then 3 days and the battery goes dead? Do I loose all my data?
    Thanks-Ray

With an orderly shutdown prior to disconnecting the power, no problems should arise.

  • IPhone BATTERY DEAD over night after iOS 5.1 update( 2 nights in a row)

I updated my iPhone on Friday night to the "improved" iOS 5.1 software and I have now discovered that for the second night in a row, the battery is dead upon awakening in the morning with the phone having some 80% charge level when I went to sleep last night. Is anyone else having this problem after updating to the new iOS 5.1 software?
If so, ow do I fix it and what is the problem?
Thanks for taking the time to read/ respond

    Hello gdgmacguy
    1. What's the point to keep iPhone plugged in overtime during all night? Is there anything wrong if I'll restore without it? Is there any more detailed explanation?
    2. When I will restore iPhone as new, and if it resolves my problem, will I then be able to restore my data from existing backup so that to retain resolved problem?
Thank you very much for your support.

It's likely that there is a runaway app. It can be any app that uses Notifications, but the most common problem is with email, especially Push accounts like Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo or MobileMe.
If you have any such accounts do the following:
    1. Go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, tap on the account name and turn it off (turn off the ACCOUNT, not PUSH).
    2. Reboot the phone - hold HOME and SLEEP for about 10 seconds, until an Apple logo appears.
    3. After the phone comes back to life go back into settings and turn the account back on.
If it is not mail try turning off Notifications. If the problem goes away you must trey each of the apps in turn to see which is causing the problem
It is also (rarely) Safari, if you exit the app on a page that updates automatically.
This is not tied to any one version of the firmware; it happens with all of them.

  • My battery goes dead after 24 hours in standby.  The battery is good, and I have done a restore to no avail.  I think it could be still software related.  Suggestions?

I have turned everything off in the way of settings that I can.  After I confirm my back up, I was going to delete all programs, less one, and see if and when the situation starts repeating itself.  I am hoping that someone might have other thoughts.

I Have the same issue on a brand new iPad mini 2. My battery is only lasting up to 5 hours. I went on chat with Apple last night and they said my battery is fine and its a Safari issue. I'm literally losing 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is just awful. I got this iPad so I could use it on my long flight for a trip I have coming up, and unfortunately, it's not going to last that long, plus I'm concerned about how many times i will be recharging my battery because of this since battery's do have a life cycle dependent on the number of charges. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

  • Can't connect to wi-fi after battery going dead

So last night a fell asleep with my MacBook pro on my lap (bad idea I know) and now I am totally unable to connect to my wifi. It shows that I have connection but I actually don't. My clock also got reset to December 31, 2000. This is the first time I've ever let my battery die on me. Anyone know what went wrong?

    Hi,
Do you have the possibility to restart the router? Just to see if this simple thing can help. Have you tried to add/connect to the network manually via Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu button (three dots) > Add network.

  • 4s battery going dead very quickly

My 4s battery has suddenly started going flat in about 3 hours without being used...

This may seem simple... but have you tried all of the techniques listed to reduce battery such as:
    Reducing screen brightness
Turning off mobile data (in particular 3G) when not in usage
    Turning off location services
Killing any apps which could be backgrounding such as Spotify
    More here... http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
If none of them work, and if sepehrg's possible solution doesn't work, take it into an Apple retail store and they may exchange it if there is an evident hardware problem. If you choose to do that, remember to say that you've tried everything listed above and a solution may be much quicker.

  • Battery Goes Dead Very Quickly

I recently got a 9300 (within last few weeks) from AT&T since my prior Blackberry was having problems (it was I think an 8900).  In any case it worked fine (and I was able to transfer all information etc.).  When I went to back it up yesterday it
uploaded new OS software (5 level to 6 level) and since then battery dies really quickly.  I turned backlight down to 10% and nothing appears to be running in the background or anything and the wireless and bluetooth are all off.  What else can I do?  The main thing I have liked about my Blackberry's (this is my fourth or so) is the long batter life.

  • Anyone have problems with a 2011 MacBook Air battery going dead

Has anyone had repeated issues with their  11" MacBook Air battery dying?  I took mine in about 3-6 months ago and they replaced the battery.  It was fried.  It's happened again.  Has anyone else had the same problems?  Has anyone got apple to replace their Air with a newer model free of charge?  Please reply back if anyone has had similar problems.  Thank you.

How exactly are you using your Air?
A: are you ever or often letting your Air shut down from power loss?
B: do you have your Air always charging AND in sleep mode?
Your service on your battery has a warranty, contact Apple for another visit for full diagnostic and possible repair.
your logic board could have a fault causing the battery to dissipate abnormally.

  • HT4623 Iphone 5 battery going dead within 1 hour

I have updated my i phone5 and its saying i have plenty of memory left. I do not have any songs playing. I do not have any apps running.

I have the same problem. I even didn't use my iPhone 4S the last 24 hours, and it drained form 100% to 9%.
With 6.1.2. I could use it 30 hours while making calls, texting and gaming.

  • IPhone 4 battery was good for a month and suddenly goes dead within 6 hours

I have been running my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1) for a month without any problem.
Suddenly, two days ago (although I haven't changed anything) the battery goes dead in less than 6 hours...
When I touch the phone, I notice it's warm. I have checked if any app was abusing of the multitasking (by killing all running app in the multitask bar) or the location services (you can tell by the little compas icon next to the battery icon), but it didn't change anything.
I think the last thing I have done, is to purchase my first Multitask application called Avertino. I have since deinstalled it (since I believed it was the root cause of my issue), but no result.
None of my other apps are abusing of the Push Notifications. I am using Push Emails with my Exchange Server, but this hasn't change in years... So this can't be the issue...
Anyways... Something is running and draining my battery, but I don't know what... Reset and Restore hasn't help, but maybe you could?

Speharpre, I wanted to let you know I've figured out what was causing my battery problems, and it may be affecting you, too. I checked wifi, 3G and background apps, but none of these were causing the issue.
In the end, it's my Exchange accounts Push email that was draining the battery so quickly. With Push turned on, the battery drained between 10 and 12% per hour, but as soon as I switched the Push function off, the battery drain went down to about 1%.
All day I've been turning push on for an hour, then off for an hour, the back on for an hour, etc... and each time I switch it back on, I see exactly the same rapid drop in battery.
Still haven't figured out how to fix the problem. I'm going to try deleting the account from the phone and re-adding it, and will also call our server tech support to see if it could be an issue at their end. Either way, I'll let you know.
