Battery good, Ac Adapter Good, Computer not charging battery or staying on

My sisters 14inch ibook g4 will not stay on. We swapped my ac adapter with hers and her ac adapter works on my ibook. Swapped her battery with mine and her battery works on my ibook. So her battery is good and her adapter is good but computer will only stay on while battery has a charge otherwise is turns off (even while ac adapter is plugged in). Reset power management and all other posted ideas and now I have no idea what to do. The enegry status shows "battery not charging" and its plugged into a regular ac outlet so I am not sure why it says that except the fact its not charging..errr...I am starting to think it's a hardware issue... any opinions?

It sounds like the power input (DC-in) board has failed. This is the part of the iBook which houses the adapter port. The iBook is acting just like my husband's did when the power input board was damaged.

  • Computer not charging, but battery is fine.

    Hello!
I have a Dv7t-6100, custom ordered from 2011. In the last year or so I've replaced the fan and the screen. I'm a little frustrated now.
The computer as of right now, will not charge. The battery on the computer is one of those larger ones...either way, the battery is fine. I thought it may have to be calibrated but when I did that it said it "Passed" so, I assume the battery itself is fine. Still holds a charge lasting between 1-3 hours when at 100%
However about an hour ago, it stopped charging entirely. Over the last month or so I've had varying issues with charging, one time being the "plugged in, charging' while it was in fact, not charging or the 'plugged in, not charging' which speaks for itself.
I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is, that the power control chip is blown, busted or otherwise incapacitate right now, but I'm hoping maybe, just maybe I am wrong and I don't need to trash this computer.
    Thanks
    Lydia

    Hello Lydia,
Found this elsewhere on the forums, from DavidPK:
    "Hi,
Download and run the stand-alone battery test utility available on the page below and see if this reports any problems with your battery.
    http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm "
If that's the test you ran already, or if the battery passes, I also found these steps on the forums, from parrjj01:
"Device Manage -> Batteries - Uninstalled Microsoft ACPI-Complient Control Method Battery -> Removed my battery from my laptop - waited about a minute -> put it back in and scanned fo hardware changes."

  • Flashing adapter led lights - not charging

Often (but not always) my charger flashes orange-green-orange-green etc, and the symbol in the toolbar tells me 'battery is not charging'. I had to replace my charger recently, but it was doing it with a spare that I was borrowing too. I hoped it was my battery, and have replaced that (needed a new one anyway) but it's doing it right now, having just put in the new battery.
It's usually when the computer is awake, but has done it a few times when it's sleeping (I don't turn my computer off much, so can't say what it does then).
Sometimes the screen dims too - the charger still glows, but the screen dims like it's operating off battery, and the symbol tells me it is. But this too is just a flicker.
Any idea? I've seen 'reset PMU' as an option, but I'm a bit worried - it says it will do something to my RAM...
I've just put in a new hard drive and new ram, with the hope that my computer will last me a long time, and really can't afford for this to be a hardware problem... It started just after getting the new hard drive.
    What can i do?

Hi. First and foremost you can't do any harm by resetting the PMU. The warning in reference to 'RAM Disk' in the instructions is virtually obsolete as RAM Disks were used by older OSs before OS X. The whole tone of the PMU page is, IMHO, overly cautious in relation to OS X.
Secondly you may find that resetting the PMU doesn't actually solve your problem. You mention that your problem only started occurring after replacing the HD. That sounds to me as though there may be a dodgy connection at the DC-in board or that there is a fault on the DC-in board. If you did the HD replacement yourself I would reopen the iBook and check the connection to the Logic Board and ensure that its cable is routed as it should be. If you had the work done elsewhere return it with a description of the problem and let them sort it under warrantee. Worst case scenario is that you need a new DC-in board. They aren't that expensive and it would be worth doing considering that you have already upgraded the RAM and got a new HD & battery.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

  • Computer Not Charging

I have a Toshiba Satellite PRO C650, and yesterday it was working just fine. Now, today, it says it's plugged in but not charging. I have tried plugging it into different outlets around my house, wiggling the jack, removing the battery and even going through BIOS to try and fix it (according to one post on here, I should be able to fix it that way, but there was nothing listed as "SLEEP AND CHARGE" in the Advanced BIOS settings).I've only had the lap top for three years and I can't really afford to get a new one right now.Is there anyone out there that can help me out?

do a power resetRemove the battery, disconnect the A/C adapter, then press the power button for 30 seconds.Connect the A/C adapter and start the laptop, after it is completely started and is running add the battery. Hopefully it will show battery installed and is charging.Let us know.

  • Free Goods (Tax not charged to customer)

    Hi to all Gurus
I m using inclusive free good and for this i am using R100 and NRAB the problem i m facing is this in case of compnay in which we are working tax on free is beared by the company not the customer. Now when i include  the Taxes amount to R100 Discount value the Tax total figure is passed on to Net Value field for  that item and it also effect the total net value by the tax amount because the tax is coming with - in net value(NETWR) and + in tax field (MWSBP). But the GL enteries are working fine this problem is only effecting the Net Value Field which is used for Standard Reports
    I have also tried all the condition routines i.e 2 ,4 ,55 ,28,59,29
Kindly all of u through any solution to my problem

Why dont u use "Pricing For Inclusive Free Goods Without Item Generation"
To do this, you can use the standard condition type NRAB. It is set up as follows:
It does not determine the discount from the condition record. It uses condition basis formula 029 in the pricing procedure to determine a discount from the free goods factor.
The condition receives the new pricing requirement 059 in the pricing procedure. This requirement checks whether free goods have already been determined.
The condition type receives condition category f. This condition category ensures that the condition is redetermined every time the quantity is changed, since this can also mean a change to the free goods quantity.
Hope this helps & Rewrad if does

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Ipod not recognized by computer, not charging

I got my second generation 1gig Ipod shuffle yesterday and have been having a few problems with it.
When plugged into my computer using the USB cord that came with it, absolutely nothing happens. Nothing happens on the ipod itself (set to off and firmly put into base). And nothing happens on the computer (Newest iTunes installed, verified USB port as 2.0, cord firmly in USB slot). Computer works fine with brother's Ipod Nano (2nd gen).
I am not getting any lights on the Ipod and in the "safely remove hardware" nothing is showing up when I plug in Ipod. I have tried all the USB 2.0 ports on both my computer and another one.

You should return the shuffle + dock to plase of purchase and get another one... OR go to an Apple Store where they'll analyse it and give you a replacement.

  • "not charging" on 12w adapter

    unit: 16gb ipad mini
    adapter: 12w wall
working up until last night, until this morning....
    issue:
    1. pc not detecting the unit, but if turned off and connected, the unit boots ups (sign that it reads)
    2. if using the adapter (12w) displays "not charging"
question: what could be the problem, is it
    1. the cable (faulty)
    2. the adapater (faulty)
    3 the unit itself
    Thanks in Advance!

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Logic board fine - battery still not charging

    hi all,
i have a problem with my battery. here is the issue in the short form: my battery is not charging. the green led light is on even when the battery is not fully charged. the computer recognizes that it is plugged into a outlet, but it doesn't charge to one hundred percent. i've checked the outlet, tried different power adapters, and ran a hardware test on the logic board. all have not solved the issue. the logic board is apparently fine according to the test.
to complicate matters further and give you a better understanding of the problem, i'll describe in more detail the issue. when i turn on the computer after it has been shut down or if i unplug the adapter and then plug it back it, the battery charges briefly (and the led changes to orange) for about ten to fifteen seconds, before it stops charging. over the past three weeks since the problem started, i've gotten the battery to go from 44 percent to 76 percent simply with these short ten second bursts of charge. these ten second bursts only happen right after plugging in the ac adapter. once it stops charging, then it stays like that unless you unplug it and then plug it in again.
so guys, this is my issue. i thought that the only issues associated with this problem could be the power source, the ac adapter, the battery, and the logic board. the power source and the adapter are not the problem. neither is the logic board. although i am getting a new battery because of the recall, it was working just fine up until this issue. that is, it was able to be fully charged. i'm stumped and i don't know what to do. i would greatly appreciate anyone's advice. thanks so much.

I'm sorry it took me so long to see you message and I'm also sorry I do not have a solution to your problem which is exactly the same problem I have. I've done very similar things to it and still I have a problem. At this point my 12-inch is sitting idle probably awaiting a large repair bill. I've been dealing with this for over a year and if you look at the past postings on the discussion board you'll find out that more than a couple of people are or have had this power problem. I got my 12-inch G4 in the spring of '03 and a year or so later I begain to have the same power problems you have had. What has not happened to you, but has to me is that it refuses to either charge a new battery or even power-up pluged directly into the wall outlet. I've been hoping that maybe Apple would recognize there is a defect in this series of G4's and do free repairs, but I started turning blue from holding my breath.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen will not Charge or Power On.

I got my iPod at Christmas and it's worked fine ever since. I don't much use it, but recently I let the battery die. When I go to charge my iPod, the Low Battery Symbol will show up, then vanish. If I hit the "Sleep" button, it will pop up again. My ipod does not indicate that it's charging, nor does my computer recognize the device. I assumed it was just a bad cable, but since then I've tried 2 other lightning Cables and neither has worked.
I use my iPod mostly to capture video, and I would like to keep my videos, but without a charge, I can't even transfer my files to my computer.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Battery not charging despite being reported as good and as charging

    Hi,
I have an X220 Tablet that's about 3 and a half years old -- so unfortunately just out of warranty -- and I'm having battery/charging problems. A few months ago the original 6-cell battery that came with the laptop died: Power Manager reported it as dead and needing replacing. It had had 500-something cycles, so it seemed reasonable. I went ahead and bought a new 6-cell battery from Lenovo, the 67+, and then my system was fine again. But one day a few weeks ago this battery suddenly stopped charging. Power Manager reported that "The battery is in good condition", and it was reported as "Status: Charging", but it was not actually charging and was instead very slowly discharging its way to 0%. Something suspicious is perhaps that PM reported "Current: 0.00 A".
I thought it might be the battery, so I got another one, but that has exactly the same issue -- now I have two batteries, each discharged completely and with no way to charge them.
Charging doesn't happen regardless of whether the computer is on or off, or whether I'm in Windows (7) or Linux.
I checked the AC adapter/charger with a multimeter and it is reporting 20V as it's supposed to, so I guess that's okay. Plus, the laptop runs fine on just the AC adapter, even if it's a little bit slower (which I gather is due to it being 65W rather than 90W).
The only slightly unusual thing I can remember from the day charging stopped functioning is that I was using the 'always on' USB port to charge my phone. But I've done that many times and never had a problem, and I've tried changing the settings for that both through Windows and the BIOS.
So, what gives? How can I diagnose what the actual problem is? Should I check the pins that the battery slots into under the computer when the AC adapter is in? Any other ideas?
It would be a great shame if this machine stopped functioning as a laptop just because it's not charging the batteries.
    Most grateful for any help!

It is hard for me to be certain without seeing it, and Sweden is a long way from San Francisco. The symptom point to a blown fuse or power transistor (mosfet). Either can cause your problem, and usually require motherboard replacement. If nothing was going on when the problem started, (no power failure, lightning storm, failure of power adapter, tripping over the cord) I would guess mosfet. Some shops can repair fuses, but they require fairly good soldering equipment. I have had much poorer luck fixing mosfets, because usually, more than one chip is bad. You might be able to find a motherboard for a reasonable price. I have one for sale on eBay for under $100, but international shipping is expensive and you might do better locally. Send me a private message if you wish to discuss

  • Good Battery Not Charging

Any suggestions on what the following problem could be and how to resolve it?
First here are my battery specs at the moment:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 913
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4829
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 175
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 11249
The thing is that we have recently had to replace the AC adapter because our son put the magsafe end in his mouth and we think it may have started frying the contacts (it smelled like burning electronics). We went to the apple store and told them our story and sure enough the AC adapter was fried. So we bought a new one and it seemed to be working fine, charged the battery fully, but now it no longer is charging. The AC adapter is working because we plugged it into my newer MacBook pro and it was doing what it was designed to do (power to the computer and charging battery). One thing I noticed was that on the newer computer the LED light on the magsafe turns on (green on the new MBP as it's fully charged) but ont he MBP that we're having the problem with it doesn't turn on (well in fact, it's more like one a blue moon and for no apparent reason the LED light will be green for a short period and then go off, but while it is green it isn't charging).
Tried resetting the SMC, but no luck, still not charging and the LED light isn't on. The LED looks very faint green, could barely make out that it is on, but this very, very faint green seems to always be on.
Anyways, hope this info is enough. We will be taking it tot the apple store, but first wanted to get our experience out there in case anyone is having the same problem.
    Cheers

    The odyssey continues...
I just noticed that my wife hadn't updated to the latest Mac OSX update (10.5.8) so I did it for her and this is what I found afterwards. The battery is now in Good conditions and the it is charging. The only problem was that the LED light wasn't turning on.
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3721
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4402
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 175
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 789
    Voltage (mV): 12309
While writing ths the unplugged the magsafe and plugged it back in and it appeared initially that the battery wasn't going to charge, but then suddenly the LED lights came on and it turned organge (as it should be when battery still needs recharging) so all seems good....oh wait, just noticed that the LED light turned off again (by off I mean a very dim green....don't know if dim green light means something). I'll continue to keep an eye on it in the meantime so hopefully all this info is jogging someone's mind on a solution.
    Cheers!
