Battery half-dead at 39 cycles. Apple refuses to exchange battery!!

Hello people,
I'm really in need for some advice..
I've got Core2Duo MBP, purchased at June 2007.
My battery suddenly died on me at 39 cycles.
I called Apple only to find out, that my MBP doesn't fall under certain battery-replacement program!!
Obviously, I'm out of warranty as well..
Am I stuck with dead battery? Or is there anything I can do about it?
I spoke to Apple representative, but she acted like a zombie, repeating same words over and over again: "Your computer doesn't fall under battery replacement program, since only Core Duo laptops are subjects to... etc."
What can I do?? I'm frustrated... First there was that screen issue (I was left notebookless for almost 1.5 month), then it's this.
Here is the battery information:

"I've called again and I've been told by the Apple rep, that I can "sue them"... "
Sorry but, I find this very hard to believe you were told this by an Apple employee.
You can call Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2775 to plead your case. They override Apple Tech Support.
Was MacBook and MacBook Pro Battery Update 1.2 program the one you aren't qualified for?
P.S. I have notifed a HOST to remove your computer's serial number.

  • 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2008) Hard Freezing & Apple Refusing Support

    Hi all,
I have tried installing Microsoft Windows XP / Vista / Vista SP1 32-bit and 64-bit on my 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, and in all instances the machine has hard locked up / froze randomly, which can only be rectified by a hard reboot. Sometimes the machine locks up within 5 minutes of turning it on, other times it may be after an hour when browsing the Internet. Most times it will lock up when actually installing Windows - usually during the 'Expanding files..' stage.
The lockups happen even when simply running the basic Vista install with no other software, not even the BootCamp drivers. Installing the BootCamp drivers has no effect as the machine also freezes after I have installed them also.
Bizarrely, OSX works fine on the same machine. I am suspecting a hardware issue with the hard disk (bad sectors?) or SATA controller given the point that it locks up most frequently at.
I have reformatted the BootCamp partition on the machine a number of times now, and installed a fresh copy of Vista every time to no avail.
Frustrated at getting nowhere, I took my MacBook Pro into an Apple store to the Genius Bar on two occasions.
On the first occasion, the staff member dealing with me went into defensive mode as soon as I mentioned running Windows via Boot Camp. He stated that Apple do not support Windows issues and that I had to contact Microsoft. At no point did they attempt to diagnose if it was a hardware issue, despite it locking up during the Windows installation, which to me certainly points to a hardware issue.
I then called up AppleCare, spoke with level 1 and 2 technicians, but they basically told me the same thing - sorry, we don't support Windows, go and talk to Microsoft.
The second time at the Genuis Bar was a little more succesful, as I demonstrated the laptop locking up. The genius then repartitioned and reinstalled Vista on the laptop only to see it lock up 13% into expanding files. He told me that if I hadn't got a customised machine that he would swap it out straight away, however because I ordered online and specified the 2.8GHz CPU and SSD disk, I had to call AppleCare. He made a note on the incident report recommending a hardware replacement.
Today I called up AppleCare again and although the support technician was very sympathetic and helpful, after speaking to a number of departments he was unable to resolve my problem satisfactorily (i.e. repair, replacement or refund) and suggested that I write a letter of complaint to Apple Operations Europe.
He also said that my problem was down to a security update issued as a patch by Microsoft, which I can't say I agreed 100% with, but went with it. He said that Apple only support Vista in a configuration that was valid at the time of relase of the MacBook Pro's, and that they don't support Vista with any future updates! Curious about this, I installed Vista (non-SP1) and the same issue occurred.
Finally, I borrowed a friend's MacBook Pro and have been testing it side by side with mine. My friend's laptop works perfectly whereas mine locks up frequently.
Given all of the troubleshooting I have performed, including trying the same thing on an identical laptop with no adverse effects, I have come to the conclusion that this is a hardware issue, not a software incompatibility.
Despite all the above, Apple refuses to acknowledge that this might be a hardware problem. I don't care what the resolution is - repair or replacement - I just want a working laptop!
I have been an Apple convert since 2 years ago, recommending their products to friends, family and colleagues. I've never had a bad experience up until now, however this incident has certainly made me reconsider my view of the company.
Whilst browsing the Apple support forums, I came across a number of people with identical issues to those that I am experiencing, all without a solution or acknowledgement from Apple. I have included links to these discussions below in the hope that Apple might take a look and comment on them.

My OLD macbook pro had a freezing problem, and i tried every possible driver, and then when I got them to fix it, they replaced the logic board and voila everything fixed. Have you gotten Apple to try and fix it?'

There are many more discussions pertaining to the same issue on the support forum.
On the Apple website (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html) it states:
'Boot Camp supports the most popular 32-bit releases of Windows XP and Windows Vista. When you use either operating system on your Mac, your Windows applications will run at native speed. Windows applications have full access to multiple processors and multiple cores, accelerated 3D graphics, and high-speed connections like USB, FireWire, Wi-Fi, and Gigabit Ethernet.'
Boot Camp 2.0: Which versions of Microsoft Windows are supported?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1888
You can install the following Microsoft operating systems via Boot Camp 2.0 or later.
Microsoft Windows Vista (64 bit) (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) on certain Mac Pro and MacBook Pro computers
Boot Camp: Macs that work with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846
Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit editions are supported on certain Intel-based Macs via Boot Camp, which is included with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
These Macs support 64-bit editions of Windows Vista:
    • Mac Pro (Early 2008)
    • MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008)
    • MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2008)
    • MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008)
    • Mac Pro (Early 2009)
    • MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009)
Clearly my 15" MacBook Pro supports Windows Vista 64-bit, and my understanding is that Apple should have tested this configuration thoroughly as part of the hardware development QA process. In order to sell a product advertised as supporting a particular feature, surely you must support customers who run into problems using the machine for the advertised purpose?
Does anyone know the configuration of Windows Vista 64-bit running on the 15" MacBook Pro that Apple supports?
Has anyone else had luck getting support for these hard lock ups?
Sorry for the rant - I'm just not feeling the Apple love right now

hi, good to know that other people also having problems with the late 2008 MacBook Pro.
I have the following problem which is definately related to the chipset. i recently bought the P256 CMFSSD-256GBG2D and the performance on mac os x was really poor. installation took 20 minutes from an usb stick. i thought the ssd was broken, but its definately not. i removed a 2 gb ram module out of my mbp and tada the ssd runs at full speed. i also put the ssd in a friends macbook pro 4,1 with 4gb ram and "INTEL" chipset and everything worked. after testing the ssd in nearly 8 different systems, desktop computers notebooks netbooks, i definately can say, my ssd works, but not in my nice macbook pro. after opening a thread in the corsair forum, which also got me no positive feedback, i called the hotline here in germany. the guy on the phone said "i will take care of the problem", after 40 minutes on line, getting no answer, i hung up.
and to make things clear, my macbook runs fine with 4gb ram and a normal hdd on mac os x 10.5.7 and windows xp sp3.
here is the link to the corsair forum:

If you want to use the email address that you used on the first account then you will need to remove it from that first account before you can do so e.g. via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's or via http://appleid.apple.com - you can create a new email address via http://gmail.com or http://hotmail.com to replace it with.

  • I used to have a podcast that had been accepted on Itunes, but my I began to have problems with my host, so I changed host and created a new podcast, and I submitted my new podcast, Apple refused, and now says the feed has already been submitted??

I used to have a podcast that had been accepted on Itunes, but my I began to have problems with my host, so I changed host and created a new podcast, and I submitted my new podcast, Apple refused, and now says the feed has already been submitted? Maybe Itunes thought that I was someone trying to copy my old podcast because I kept the same name, I tried to change the names but it looks like I'm on a blocked list...

There is a procedure for changing the feed URL for a podcast, which it seems you haven't followed: you have to add a special tag to the old feed - just submitting a new feed will have exactly the effect you describe. The proper method is described here:

  • Apple refused to fix my phone as they said it's been modified! I got this phone from EE brand new, who confirmed they get these phones direct from Apple, no one is helping and I am without a phone help?..

Apple refused to fix my phone as they said it's been modified, I got this phone as an upgrade through EE. They have said phones come directly from iPhone, I have not had repaired it's been fine. What can be done about this.

Unless you jailbroke the iPhone, in which case you have yourself voided any further support, this is an issue you'll need to take up with EE, since they're the ones who sold you the iPhone. It's quite possible that EE is lying to you and gave you an iPhone they took back from someone else and it was indeed modified by some unauthorized person or shop.
    Regards.

  • Does Apple have a exchange policy?

As a matter of fact, on my 6 plus. I can't even restore it from my previous 16gb iphone 5s. Itunes says that there is not enough space left.
The fact is that the iphone6 plus system takes more capacity than a iphone 5s. I merely have 10 gb space to use on 6 plus.
Just a note for everyone is about to purchase the iphone 6 plus, I really do not recommend the 16gb version. 10 GB is nothing in today's terms of capacity. A few decent songs will take up quite a lot space. Photos can also reach 5mb now.
After all, there is so much frustration when I cant restore my backup. Another question is, I live in the UK, I am wondering if apple have a exchange policy? I really want to exchange for a 64 gb model.
Note. Iphone 6 plus 64GB is always out of stock, while 16GB has a huge stock left all across UK. (Supports my view of 16GB is pointless.)

Hi 70, my son just did the same thing, he called the store (Canary Wharf) who told him within 14 days rather than 28, and now he is waiting for the 64GB to arrive. Thankfully his 5s still does the job (but according to him it's just so old now that the 6 is out )

  • Will Apple let me exchange my iPhone 6 for the iPhone 6 plus?

I bought my iPhone 6 about a month ago at the Apple Store (unlocked, full price), now I feel like I should've bought the 6 plus instead since I use my phone for watching movies/videos a lot. Does Apple let people exchange phones and just pay the difference? Basically my phone is still new just wish I would've bought the 6 plus???

Sell your 6 and use the proceeds to buy the 6+.

  • Do Apple in Singapore exchange my iPhone 5 since it has a cracked screen?

I cracked my iPhone 5 screen, accidentaly. Is it allowed in Apple Singapore to exchange my iPhone with a refurbished one? How much do they charge me with them fixing my iPhone 5 screen? Do the Apple Warranty covers Cracked Screen?

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, that is an out-of-warranty replacement.  In the US, the iPhone 5 screen can be replaced for $149, and the entire iPhone 5 replaced for $269...you will have to check with an Apple store in Singapore to see if they offer screen replacement on the iPhone 5 or you must replace the entire unit and what the cost will be.

  • Will Apple let me exchange my ipod because of scratching?

Will apple let me exchange my 60 gb white ipod which is 1 week and 2 days old because of the numerous scratches it has accumalated? If not what could I say for a reason.

Well, mine was not treated badly and it was scratched enough that within a week parts of the screen became hard to read. Did I drop it? No. Did I put it face down on some hard surface? No. Are they a bunch of hard, deep scratches on it? No.
Mine is full of lighter abrasions from being in my pocket, with nothing else in my pocket besides it (and with or without the lame leather pouch). NOWHERE in the 5G iPods' packaging does it say, "WARNING: This new iPod scratches VERY easily - so go out and figure out some protective shrinkwrap-like shield to put over it or don't take it anywhere." I had a 4G B&W iPod which got stolen and for the time I had it was fairly sturdy. I assumed this replacement would be the same. I even put the 4G's iSkin over this new one, but with the screen not being protected it was pretty much useless.
After a few days I went to the Apple Store to voice my concerns over it. The two guys working on the floor didn't even want to bother with me, saying there was no protective covering for 5G iPods sold at the store nor anything to fix scratches, and that it was tough luck and I just had to live with it. They told me my best bet was going to Home Depot and look for something to clean it. Naturally this made me angry and so I wrote Apple and told them I wanted this replaced. They sent me a box to put it in and I have returned it...so we'll see what they do. Had I known beforehand how completely fragile the front surface is, I wouldn't have even touched the iPod without putting an InvisibleShield over it. But how was I to know? I'm not clairvoyant nor do I spend hours reading iPod bulletin boards.
If Apple wants these video iPods to be truly mobile and not just sit there on someone's desk, they should atleast tell buyers about the scratching problem - either on the box, in the instruction pamphlet, or online when they register. It's not fair for consumers to find out this problem the hard way and then the seller would turn around and go, "Well, sorry, even though you just spent $400, we can't do anything about that."
    Just sayin...
