Battery Health after 13 cycles?

I recently downloaded istate pro to check my battery and to my suprise my battery health is currently at 96% after 13 cycles. Yesterday I calibrated the battery and it was at 98% health.  Could be battery by obsolete? And I just got my mbp 1 week ago.

Your battery is fine. Over time the battery health continues to decline until the battery needs to be replaced.

Double check that your Network settings are how you want them as after an upgrade they have a habit of changing.
On my Verizon phone it redefaulted to Global which really burned my battery instead of limiting it to LTE/CDMA, once I changed it back battery life was back (or better) than previously.

  • Battery Health issues - software or hardware?

The battery on my late-2008 unibody Macbook (OSX 10.6.4) is reporting 25% battery health after 134 cycles with the "service battery" message showing.
It's been showing this for about a fortnight now. A 100% charge usually lasts around half an hour.
I've reset the SMC and the PRAM more than once, and the battery is calibrated every few months, and was calibrated last week.
Here's the thing - I was looking for a replacement battery this morning, and the charge jumped from 50-odd percent, to 78%, and when I looked, it was reporting 93% battery health (I use iStat and coconut battery to get battery health). After my initial Joy at not having to splash out £100 for a new battery, the display suddenly jumped from 60% to 2%, and back to 25% battery health.
Has anyone else had this sort of issue? I've booked into the genius bar later this week but I'd like to avoid paying for a new battery if at all possible. Anyone have any advice?

I use Coconut and iBatt2 as well and they both report that the State of Health of my 2 'new' NewerTech 71W NuPower batteries as being about 93 - 95 percent. Their State of Charge is 100 percent after about 3 hours on charge.
I have tried all the usual SMC/PMU resets, Magsafe pin checks, power adapter checks, etc., and still no improvement. I even installed Battery Update 1.2 and apart from a modified charging algorithm I have detected no change. I cannot get the SoH near 100 percent, consequently I am losing something like 30 minutes running time. At present each battery gives me around 90 - 120 minutes operation.
However, I do take the point that maybe there is a software issue involved and the fault, if there is one, does not lay with the batteries. I have been wondering what the Battery Updates do? I have 1.2 installed where previously I had none but there has been no change. The 5 - 7 percent extra capacity NewerTech promised still eludes me. Why?
    Regards
    Phil

  • How to increase battery HEALTH

i checked my battery health after installing istat pro today, and it said my battery health was currently at 46%. how can i bring that back up if that's even possible?

  • Battery health decreased rapidly after charging problems.

Hy a few weeks ago the health of my mid 2010 MacBook Pro was still 79% which is normal since it has more than 1000 cycles.
    Then following incident happened:
My battery was almost discharged, 30% or so, so I connected it to the AC power. After a while I wanted to see how much it was charged but the indicator in the corner still indicated the same 30% or so, only when I disconnected it it changed to something in the 80% range. I used my computer for a while like that and I noticed that the battery indicator was not chaning. Only when I connected or disconnected the AC power did it update.
I decided to reboot the machine and this solved the problem. I recently noticed however that my battery health now dropped to 63% which seems very much in a short period of time.
I know that normally charger will deliver less current to the battery when it is near 80% in order to prevent overcharging and maintain battery life as much as possible. I wonder however if the drastic decrease could be because of the power management thinking that the battery was only partly charged and thus delivering to much current to an almost full battery? If this is the case do you think that Apple would intervene for the costs of a new battery? I know I would have had to replace it sooner rather than later but this does change a lot I think. My computer is not in warranty anymore and I don't want to pay 49€ for one intervention. There are also no official Apple stores in Belgium and the authorised resellers really don't offer the same service.

    sweex,
since your battery has over 1000 cycles and has 79% of its original full charge capacity remaining, Apple considers your battery “consumed”; they will not intervene for the cost of a new battery. It’s entirely your decision when to replace your battery, but irregular charging results are to be expected for as long as you use your present battery.
If no Apple-authorized service center in Belgium offers the option of changing the battery, then you should let Apple know so that they can find an organization who will do so. I don’t know where you are in Belgium, but this search around Brussels shows seven different Apple-authorized service centers which all claim to service Macs, and the one in Aalst is noted as being a Premium service center.

  • The battery of my iPhone 5 easily discharges even if not in use. This started 11 months after purchase. The unit passed the Apple Battery Health Test Protocol but the performance showed otherwise. What is the problem and how do I solve it?

The battery of my iPhone 5 easily discharges even when not in use. The unit was tested by Apple and passed the Battery Health Test although the performance showed otherwise. The battery deterioration started 11 months after purchase and is not covered by Apple warranty. What is the problem of the iPhone5 and would appreciate suggestions on how to address this problem. By the way, I have a 2 year old iphone 4S with a battery performance as good as when it was bought two years ago.

  • MacBook Pro (Early 2008) battery health drop after installing Snow Leopard?

I installed Snow Leopard last Friday, when after the installation, I clicked my battery icon as I was looking through the new OS- and noticed that it said "Service Battery" which I hadn't seen before. So I looked in System Profiler and noticed that the maximum charge was around 3400mAh, quite a bit lower than the 5400mAh that it started with 14 months ago. So thinking that it might just be displaying incorrectly, I did a battery calibration (it was about that time anyway) as per the instructions on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490 and when I plugged it back in after letting it sit in sleep for five hours, it shows 2848mAh as the maximum charge. There is no way that it would have lost ~600mAh worth of charge capacity through one calibration. The battery only has 198 cycles on it, and it states on http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html that the battery is designed to have 80% charge capacity at 300 cycles. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to improve battery health, short of buying a new one? Or does Apple cover batteries in cases like this?
edit- I just noticed I posted this in the wrong MBP battery forum, but can't find a way to move it or delete it- sorry about that!
    Message was edited by: david.moore

I installed Snow Leopard as well (made a clean install) and got the same message "check the battery". I followed the procedure on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490, since I had the same problem (my battery capacity was significantly low compared to the cycles, I had ~2800 mAh (60%) for only 60 cycles) and when I rebooted the computer, it even dropped down to ~2095 mAh (40%) !! *So the good advice is to _NOT follow HT1490_ advice...*
I tried as well http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 but it didn't helped...
I guess I'll have to take a meeting at Genius Bar to the closest Apple store... Did anyone got his battery replaced ? I think this is one serious issue where Apple should either :
    1. Remove this bad advice's page and warn users against it
    2. Upgrade the battery's firmware (is there any?) or OS battery life detection
Anyway it's very annoying that when doing a "recommended" manipulation, it even makes the problem worse !!

  • Battery on my 11 Months Old MBP - 93% Health / 17 Cycles

My MacBook Pro is about 11 months old, I have just did a full drain/charge cycle on the battery since I forgot to calibrate my battery for the last 5 months. I just looked up the battery health, it shows 93% health/17 Cycles.
Does this health percentage seem normal?

*"How exactly does the battery health detoriate? I've had my MBP for about a month or two, and it's at 98% health with 19 cycles. Does the battery just fizz out after long term use? How can you calibrate your battery? And, does battery health have to do with battery care or cleaning? - Originally posted by: mbpjunkie"*
I figured out how to calibrate the battery. Just have to charge it fully, unplug it from the wall, use it until the battery power runs out(or finishes one power cycle). Then shut down when it goes into sleep mode, reboot plug it back in and charge it fully again. This is the calibration process.
Now I just need my other questions to be answered.

  • Cycle 23 but Battery Health 95%

cycle 23 cut Battery Health 95%
    Battery  Problem  ????

How old is your Mac? 1-2-3 years old?
Batteries go bad even if the charge cycle count is low. They only last so long whether they are used or not. The last longer being used on a regular basis but not abused. Using them all the time and or leaving it connected to AC all the time will shorten it life span.
Use it but don't abuse it.

  • Brand new macbook pro 2012 (no retina display) 95% battery health with 5 cycles? is that okay?

I know, another battery related question. I have recently bought a brand new macbook pro (no retina display), I calibrated the battery at least twice since Ive had it and it states that I am at 95% battery health with only 5 charges. Is that normal or should I bring my macbook in to be checked? Id like to get this settled before school starts in September since I depend on my macbook a great deal.
    thanks !

    Full cycle? 100%, of course.
How you get there is another matter. It can be a battery killing full discharge that will certainly ensure a brief life. Or a leisure set of discharges down to 20%, 30% or more. When they all sum up 100%, winner! You've got a cycle!!
Apple recommends you enjoy your Mac and don't obsess too much on battery stuff. Just exercise the electrons every so often by bringing it down to, say, 20% and charge it back up. Going all the way down to the bitter end, when the Mac forces itself to sleep is sort of ok too and won't do (too much) damage, provided you don't make it an engrained habit. We all forget the power brick occasionally and get caught out in the wild with whatever charge was left inside.

  • Only 52 cycles and battery health dipping to 73% at times?

My macbook pro is less then a year old and I lately have been having strange battery health readings. The battery usually lasts a few hours depending on what I am doing with it unplugged. However the health twice now has dipped to 73% and then jumped back up to 89% or 91% and stayed there. It's normal for health to fluctuate a bit (mine ranges from 86-96%, and has done that for the past 100 cycles or so). But, your fluctuations are a bit wider than I'd consider normal. Keep an eye on it, and if it dips and stays below 80%, contact Apple before your 1 year warranty expires.
When was the last time you calibrated your battery? That should be done every 2 months or so.

    Hi,
I've just recieved my New Macbook Pro Retina 15inch and installed 'Battery Health', but for some reason it is is showing my Macbook as 1.9months old with 2 cycles!? This Macbook isn't even a day old.. Is this normal!?

That is not unusual.  Note that the actual maximum charge is well above the designed level which is the most important criteria.
    Ciao.

  • Battery health is 78%, 479 cycles, 3 year old Macbook Pro 13" 2010. Time to purchase new battery?

I have a 2010 13" Macbook Pro that has a battery that constantly remains at about 78% of the original capacity. I have gone through 479 cycles and I only recharge when the battery is less than 10%. It doesn't matter what I do because it always remains around this range of health. What should I do? Should I purchase a new battery?

why not just use your macbook as it is until the service battery messages shows up.

  • MBA early 2010, 200 cycles and 87% of battery health

    Hi,
I've been using my macbook since April, so it's rather fresh. Battery life has become a bit worse that is pretty visible on the iStat. How can I improve my battery health without replacing it?
I've seen some manual to make some special charging cycles, but cannot find it...
    Kal

In a strict sense, that's a little (but not much) below what might be expected with that length of service and number of cycles on the battery, but much depends on other factors, not least being whether the MBA has been left, or used, for prolonged periods on mains power, or left discharged for a lengthy time, or even used in a pattern of full discharge/full recharge. These are the kind of factor which can deplete capacity and result in lower than optimum battery performance.
Avoid regular full discharge/recharge, don't leave the unit plugged in for long periods, and routinely use the MBA away from mains, even if only for short periods before recharging to keep the battery well exercised, and that will help preserve remaining battery performance.
